BBC—Why North Korea’s nuclear test is still producing aftershocks:
North Korea’s nuclear test in September didn’t just generate diplomatic shockwaves but also a 6.3 magnitude earthquake.
Aftershocks have continued ever since, and on Saturday the US Geological Survey said it had detected two more, sparking significant debate about what might be going on underground.
What happened during the nuclear test?
On 3 September, North Korea tested its most powerful nuclear bomb to date at its Punggye-ri test site in the mountains in its northwest.
Pyongyang claimed it was a hydrogen bomb, which would have made it a device many times more powerful than an atomic bomb.
Experts have expressed concerns the explosion might have been so powerful it could destabilise the surrounding mountains.
Why are aftershocks still happening?
According to the USGS, last weekend’s tremors were “relaxation events”. They measured a magnitude of 2.9 and 2.4.
“When you have a large nuclear test, it moves the earth’s crust around the area, and it takes a while for it to fully subside. We’ve had a few of them since the sixth nuclear test,” an official told Reuters.

People who don’t know Yahweh ridicule the thought of Him. Many people who know Yahweh jump to conclusions at the drop of a hat. Most of those conclusions are erroneous.
North Korea has nuclear weapons. Kim Jong-il thought that he could ensure his survival by possessing nuclear weapons and using them to extort other nations, particularly the United States. Kim Jong-il is now dead.
To buttress his position, Kim Jong-un, Kim Jong-il’s son, is depriving his citizens of basic necessities so that he can develop missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons to the United States and other places. Right now, he is trying to use that capability to extort the United States again.
I don’t know what the future holds because Yahweh hasn’t told me, but I know this. The future will not be what people think it will be unless Yahweh lays it out for them in detail.
North Korea MAY BE in the process of committing nuclear suicide. If she is, Iranian leaders should be very careful.
“The wicked put up a bold front, but the upright give thought to their ways. There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against Yahweh. The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with Yahweh.” (Proverbs 21: 29-31)
The future will turn out to be exactly what Yahweh wants it to be. About that fact, I have no doubt whatsoever.
