Peace between Palestinians and Israel?  Not hardly.  Get ready for some fireworks.

The Palestinians threatened on Saturday to suspend all communication with the United States if the Trump administration follows through with plans to close their diplomatic office in Washington. The potential rupture in relations threatens to undermine President Donald Trump’s bid for Mideast peace — a mission he has handed his son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Senior Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said the U.S. decision was “very unfortunate and unacceptable,” and accused Washington of bowing to pressure from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government “at a time when we are trying to cooperate to achieve the ultimate deal.”

In a video statement on social media, Erekat said: “We will put on hold all our communications with this American administration.”

There was no immediate reaction from the Trump administration. Netanyahu’s office said the closure was “a matter of U.S. law.”

U.S. officials had insisted before Erekat’s statement that the move wasn’t aimed at increasing leverage over the Palestinians, but merely the unavoidable consequence of U.S. law.

Cutting off ties would carry great risks for the Palestinians. It could antagonize an administration they already suspect is biased toward Israel and cut put millions of dollars of critical U.S. aid in jeopardy.

Palestinian leaders are talkers and terrorists. They don’t want peace with Israel.  Never have.

They have been talking about peace with Israel for decades while at the same time ordering terrorist attacks on Israel and celebrating the deaths of their operatives who are killed while committing acts of terror.  They even name public places after their “martyrs”.

When Palestinian leaders don’t get what they want or when they want to send a message, they ramp up terrorist activity. That results in more deaths and lots of media attention.

That’s the Palestinian modus operandi. I call it the Palestinian Two-Step. Until now, it has worked because Western politicians have not made clear what the behavior of Palestinian leaders will cost them.  U.S. presidents are the guiltiest of all.

President Trump is sending clear signals to Palestinian leaders that their intransigent behavior won’t be tolerated. Closing diplomatic offices is Step 1.

If Palestinians are true to form, they will ramp up terrorist activity. Step 2 for President Trump should be a hammer blow aimed at funding for Palestinians.

Step 2 must be swift and strong. That’s the only language that Palestinian leaders understand.

Ordinary Palestinians are angry with their leaders, both Hamas in Gaza and Fatah in the West Bank. The only way that Hamas and Fatah hold onto power is by murdering people who resist them and by paying off people who comply with their edicts.

If Palestinian leaders can’t pay off the ordinary Palestinians they victimize, they will lose support and endanger their own lives.  Regrettably, that’s how things work.

It’s time for a showdown. President Trump is the right man for the job right now. Presidents Bush (HW), Clinton, Bush (W), and Obama did not have the wherewithal or the conviction to do what must be done. President Trump does.

It won’t be easy.

By indoctrinating ordinary Palestinians over decades of time to hate Israel and Jewish people, Palestinian leaders have created a monster and quite likely their own executioners.  They have made it virtually impossible for anyone to sign a peace treaty with Israel and survive, and every Palestinian leader knows it.

Palestinian leaders are between a rock and a hard place, and they got there through their own chicanery. Get ready for some fireworks, and don’t blame Israel. Palestinian leaders have done this to themselves.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
