The “No Moral Equivalence” Argument is a Radical Left Con Job

For the benefit of new SnyderTalk readers, I’ll begin by saying that I detest the radical right in America.  I also detest the radical left.

Both groups are dangerous, but the radical left is far more dangerous than the radical right because it is championed by the establishment media and the Democrat Party.

The establishment media and Democrats want ordinary Americans to believe that they are the mainstream.  That’s hogwash.  They are radical left groups plain and simple.

The establishment media has a stranglehold on mass communication in our country.  That makes it doubly dangerous.

What do we know about the Charlottesville incident?

  • Radical right groups asked for a permit to protest in Charlottesville because of the City Council’s decision to remove a statue of Robert E. Lee from a park beside the courthouse.
  • The City Council rejected the request.
  • Radical right groups sued the City Council in federal court, and a federal judge ordered the City Council to allow the protest.

The Charlottesville City Council’s reluctance to grant the permit was understandable.  About a month ago, a similar protest produced altercations, but no one was killed.

But Robert E. Lee isn’t just another guy in Virginia.  He’s viewed as a hero, a favorite son.

Lee could have led the Northern Army or the Southern Army during the Civil War.  He decided to command Southern troops because he was a Virginian, and Virginia was a Southern state.  In Virginia, Lee is widely recognized as a man of honor, a true Virginia gentleman.

The Charlottesville City Council got caught up in all the hoopla about removing vestiges of our regrettable past and ignored all the pertinent facts pertaining to General Lee.  In the heartland of Virginia, what it did was deemed to be idiotic, borderline insane.

Virginians are proud of Charlottesville.  Thomas Jefferson, another Virginia native son, lived in Charlottesville on Monticello Mountain.  He founded the University of Virginia.  It’s in Charlottesville, and Virginians are proud of it, too.

Ordinary Virginians see Charlottesville today as an anomaly.  They view it as the home of leftist wackos and well-educated, liberal numbskulls.

Even so, Charlottesville remains a source of great pride for Virginians, but the Charlottesville City Council and the Governor of Virginia, Terry McAuliffe, went too far this time.  They will learn that lesson the hard way come election time.

Echoes of Charlottesville will reverberate all over the commonwealth for many years to come, and it won’t work out well for “liberal progressives” in Virginia.

They have some explaining to do.  See the articles below for examples of questions they will be forced to answer in due course:

FYI: I taught at the University of Virginia for 25 years.  Today, I am a chaired professor emeritus at UVA.  My wife and I raised our family in Charlottesville.  I was Virginia Governor Chuck Robb’s Policy Advisor for Regulatory Reform.  I traveled all over Virginia for a quarter of a century representing at various times both UVA and the Governor’s Office.  My wife and I owned a home on Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia.  It’s just outside Roanoke, the hub of rural Southwest Virginia.  I know lots of ordinary Virginians, and I’m not guessing when I talk about how they see Charlottesville.

What else do we know about the Charlottesville incident?

  • Radical right hate group members showed up as expected to protest. They did not break the law.  Up to that point, they had done everything according to the book.
  • If no one else had showed up, they would have left town after making fools of themselves, and that would have been the end of it.
  • But radical left hate group members showed up, too. They came in large numbers wearing body armor and carrying weapons of various sorts.  They did not have a permit to protest or to counter-protest.  In other words, they broke the law.
  • Radical left hate group members started the violence. They physically attacked radical right hate group members, and all hell broke loose.
  • Eventually, a radical right nutjob drove a vehicle into the radical left hate group killing an innocent bystander and injuring several others.
  • That’s what happens when all hell breaks loose.

Those are the facts.  They are irrefutable.

Enter President Trump

The brouhaha started immediately after the president’s first speech, as if on cue.  It must have been planned.  There is no other logical explanation.

The narrative parroted by the establishment media all over the country was timed perfectly.  In unison as if by some miracle, all of them started talking about “no moral equivalence” between Nazis, white supremacists, and Antifa terrorists.

That has been their mantra since the president first spoke about the Charlottesville incident except they refer to Antifa terrorists as “peaceful demonstrators”.  That’s insane.

The Democrat Party and the establishment media are trying to bring down President Trump by portraying him as a white supremacist. That’s nonsense, but it’s simple.

They like simple characterizations, because they think ordinary Americans are so stupid that they can’t see through their chicanery.

None of what they have said is true.  They are framing the president.  He is innocent.

Rather than telling you what the president said, I want you to see it for yourself.  Below are his 3 speeches in order.  Actually, the third video is not of a speech.  It’s shows the president answering questions after a presentation on infrastructure regulatory process improvements:

Justice Will Prevail

I said this in a SnyderTalk editorial a few days ago:

Things aren’t always what they appear to be.

Regular SnyderTalk readers know that for many years I have been warning Jewish people in the U.S. and Europe to be careful.  They are easy targets.

There can be no doubt that anti-Semitic hate crimes are on the rise everywhere.  Evidence of that fact in the U.S. suggests that despite incidents like the one in Charlottesville, Virginia a few days ago, anti-Semitic hate is most prevalent on college campuses in America, especially college campuses in California among the so-called “intellectual elite”.

The culprits on college campuses aren’t members of the radical right.  They are members of the radical left.

I question the veracity of Dr. Miller’s assertion that there is an “alarming rise of white supremacy in America”.  A bigot doesn’t become a bigot overnight.  There aren’t more bigots in the U.S. now than there were a few years ago.  The bigots among us have been emboldened, and they are itching for a fight.  Thus, they are more out in the open and easier to see.

During Barack Obama’s presidency, we witnessed some of the most atrocious abuses of power in the history of this country, but nothing was done about it.  If Attorney General Sessions does his job and investigates those crimes, people are going to be shocked by his findings.

Obama and everyone in his administration targeted conservatives and other groups that didn’t buy into their so-called “liberal progressive” agenda.  They brazenly broke the law with impunity.

The radical right in America felt the heat for 8 long years, and they wanted a change of direction.  They didn’t vote for President Trump because they like him or because they believe in what he stands for.  They voted for Trump because he wasn’t Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton.

President Trump hasn’t said or done anything that resembles anti-Semitism.  That wasn’t the case for Barack Obama.

I think most Jewish people will agree that anti-Zionism is the latest iteration of anti-Semitism.  Anti-Zionism is a pillar of the Democrat Party.  Barack Obama is worse than an anti-Zionist.  He’s an Israel hater.

Obama’s foreign policy initiatives put the survival of the State of Israel at risk and cost many innocent Israeli lives.  As President of the United States, the way he treated Israel and particularly Prime Minister Netanyahu was shameful.  Even so, he had the enthusiastic support of most Jewish voters in America.  It’s more than incongruous that they hate Trump and love Obama.

In her article, Dr. Miller implies that Charlottesville Mayor Michael Signer’s Jewishness was a factor in the violence that engulfed the town.  I believe that is a ridiculous assumption.  Neo-Nazis and people of their ilk hate Jews and blacks and anyone else who isn’t of European descent.  Truth is they are bigots to the core.  They hate, period.  Their chants and signs would have been the same no matter who was Mayor of Charlottesville.

The facts pertaining to what happened in Charlottesville tell an interesting story, and it’s not the story being told by the establishment media.  Despite what they want us to believe, the radical right had a permit to protest.  Initially, Charlottesville denied their request for a permit, but a federal judge ordered the city to allow the protest.

Radical left counter-protesters in Charlottesville did not have a permit, but they showed up in large numbers wearing body armor and carrying weapons of various sorts.  They initiated the violence by attacking the legal protesters to provoke a response.  That fact in no way justifies vehicular homicide, but justice is blind and those are the facts.  Loud voices won’t change them.

People who are determined to hate President Trump no matter what he does may ignore the facts, but fair-minded people won’t.  Unbeknownst to the haters, they are making the president’s case for him.

The articles below raise some interesting questions.  A careful reading of them will convince reasonable men and women that something sinister was afoot in Charlottesville:

A few days ago, Elizabeth Warren said that liberals are the “heart and soul” of the Democrat Party.  She’s right, and the Democrat Party is rotten to the core.  Democrats are a soul sick lot.  They will say and do just about anything to regain power in this country.

Those counter-protesters in Charlottesville didn’t just happen to be there.  They came from all over, and they were organized and prepared for a fight.  That’s not spontaneous.  It was orchestrated and choreographed.

Who did the planning?  A thorough FBI investigation will answer that question.

If you are a regular SnyderTalk reader, you know that I have been warning people to stay away from staged events like the one in Charlottesville because Democrats need for people to die to make their case in the establishment media.  That’s what happened in Charlottesville.

Democrats got what they wanted.  Their lust for power will drive them to do even more as the 2018 mid-term elections draw near.  We ain’t seen nothin’ yet.  Get ready for some real violence.

Looking at the facts dispassionately is critical.  Rabid Trump haters will reject logic, common sense, and the law to justify their hatred.  Reasonable people won’t.

President Trump was correct.  Both sides were at fault.  Nothing justifies murder.  President Trump said that, too.  Even so, nothing that the president says or does will placate those who are out to get him no matter what.  Thankfully, they are in the minority.

This is a battle between good and evil.  Despite appearances, President Trump is on the good side of the fight.

Democrat instigators and other radical left provocateurs are not. Neither are radical right groups that had a legal right to protest.  In the Charlottesville case, the law was on their side.

Those among us who believe that radical right groups have no right to espouse their hateful views should keep in mind where that kind of thinking leads.  If we follow that logic to the end, we will discover that no one has a right to express a view that is contrary to the mainstream view and that physically attacking those who dare to speak against the mainstream view is justified.  The First Amendment to the Constitution was included to prevent that from happening.

As John Adams said, “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.”

When all is said and done,

  • people who abandon objectivity, reject the facts, and hold to their strongly-held beliefs despite the evidence will lose credibility and cease to be relevant in the discussion,
  • shrill voices won’t carry the day,
  • and justice will prevail.

That’s not a racist, white male perspective.  That’s common sense.

Facts are Facts

I stand by everything I said in that editorial.  President Trump has been abused like no president since Richard Nixon, but unlike Nixon, he has done nothing wrong.  Still, those who are out to get him will not let up.

Barack Obama and members of his administration broke the law with gusto, and they were applauded by the establishment media, the Democrat Party, and well-educated dimwits across the fruited plain.

Democrats and the establishment media should have learned their lesson in 2016, but obviously they didn’t.  The American people aren’t stupid.  They know when they are being hoodwinked.

In due course, all the facts will be exposed to the light of day.  For example, see “VA Police Spokesperson Echoes Trump’s Statement: Yes, There Was Violence on ‘All Sides’”:

The relentless thrashing of President Donald Trump continued Sunday — virtually nonstop — for comments he made following violent clashes during a white nationalist protest in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday.

Not only was Trump criticized from all sides of the political spectrum for failing to single out white supremacists in his condemnation of the violence, he was also criticized for things he did say.

NBC News’s Chuck Todd slammed the president, saying his offer of “deep condolences” to the families of those killed “may have made it worse.”

The firestorm began after Trump condemned the “display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides” in an initial statement.

Someone who wasn’t condemned for making a similar statement was Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller, who echoed Trump’s comments, blaming the violence on “all sides”:

“We were hoping that it would not elevate to this level of the violence that we witnessed amongst the participants in the crowds, on all sides. They were throwing bottles, they were throwing soda cans with cement in them. […]”

Geller also said participants “were launching chemicals into the crowd,” although she didn’t place the blame on either side.

Also, see “Protesters blame Charlottesville police for not stopping violence”:

Another protester, Hawk Newsome, president of Black Lives Matter of Greater New York, told CNN affiliate WCAV the police response to “Unite the Right” was different than at rallies he’s attended in the past. He said the police in Charlottesville were too far away to prevent any violence.

“The police actually allowed us to square off against each other,” Newsome said. “There were fights and the police were standing a block away the entire time. It’s almost as if they wanted us to fight each other.”

Neither Charlottesville Police nor Virginia State Police immediately responded to CNN’s requests for comment. The city of Charlottesville also did not respond.

When all the facts are revealed, there will be hell to pay.

Conclusion

President Trump never hinted at a moral equivalence.  He said that both sides were at fault.  That’s true.

Stated another way, the “no moral equivalence” argument is a radical left con job that is being thrust upon us by Democrats and the establishment media.

When the FBI completes its investigation, I think the facts will show that radical left hate groups in collaboration with the establishment media, the Democrat Party, and leftist groups connected with the Democrat Party planned the Charlottesville incident.

They have blood on their hands.  Some of them should go to prison.
