It’s Time for Israel to Take Control of the Temple Mount

Two Israeli police officers were killed at the Temple Mount late last week by Islamists.  Both of them were Druze.  See “Families, friends mourn ‘beloved’ officers killed in Temple Mount attack”.

After the attack, the Temple Mount was closed temporarily and the Old City of Jerusalem was placed under tight security.  In response, the Waqf, an Islamic religious trust best known for controlling and managing the Islamic structures on and around the Temple Mount, said that Israel had taken control of the Temple Mount.

See “Waqf says Israel has completely taken control of Temple Mount”.  That was a lie.  Israel did not take control of the Temple Mount.  They should have.

Jordan demanded that Israel reopen the Temple Mount immediately.  Prime Minister Netanyahu rejected that demand, but he ordered the Temple Mount to reopen on Sunday.  He also demanded tighter security.

The Arab League scolded Israel for closing the Temple Mount.

When Prime Minister Netanyahu reopened the Temple Mount on Sunday with increased security as he said, Muslim “worshippers” protested because metal detectors had been installed.  See “Metal detectors at Jerusalem shrine trigger new tensions”.

Non-Muslims must undergo that kind of security every time we visit the Temple Mount.  It’s required, but Muslims were alarmed because they routinely carry weapons and explosives to the Temple Mount and store them in Al-Aqsa Mosque.  That part of the Palestinian Two-Step may be over, at least for now.

Arab leaders are worried about a backlash because of the brutal murders.  They should be worried about what Yahweh is going to do.  They don’t have any idea how angry He is.

The White House applauded Netanyahu’s response and said, “There must be zero tolerance for terrorism.”  That means President Trump is on top of the matter, as he should be.

It was reported that Waqf officials may have aided in the attack.  That has happened many times before.  In fact, the al Aqsa Mosque is used as a storage depot for weapons for use during altercations on the Temple Mount.

For a thorough analysis of the incident, see “Terror in the Old City is all too familiar, but Friday’s attack was something else”.

I’ve been exploring Israel for 20 years.  During that time, I have seen many incidents that have created great concern.  Incidents in and around the Temple Mount are the least alarming.  The all too frequent military attacks from Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon plus the intifadas orchestrated by the Palestinian Authority (PA) in the West Bank are much worse.

Both the frequency and the intensity of attacks are increasing.  Typically, things intensify when “peace” talks are in the offing.  It’s no coincidence that the latest attack at the Temple Mount took place while President Trump is pushing Israel and the PA to the “peace” table.  I call it the Palestinian Two-Step.  It’s as predictable as night following day.

As I said, the Waqf’s claim that Israel had taken control of the Temple Mount was a lie.  The Waqf’s goal was to elevate the incident in the eyes of ordinary Muslims.  Jordan chimed in immediately to lend immoral support to the Waqf.  That’s the only kind of support that Jordan can offer.

It’s time for Israel to take control of the Temple Mount.  Truth is Israel should have taken control of it following the Six-Day War in 1967.  If they had done it then, they wouldn’t be dealing with these problems now.

Breaking News

For the latest, see “Saudi king steps in to resolve Temple Mount crisis”:

According to Elaph News, the decision to reopen the site [the Temple Mount] to worshippers and tourists was made after Salman spoke to the U.S. administration.

According to an official quoted by the London-based website, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu assured the Saudi king, by way of American mediation, that the status quo on the Temple Mount would remain unchanged. Under the so-called status quo agreement, non-Muslims are permitted to visit the Temple Mount but only Muslims are allowed to worship there.

As you can see, there are serious problems.  First, the Saudi king thinks he can exercise his authority in Israel.  Second, our president believes he can/should exert pressure on Israel. Third, the Israeli prime minister accepts points 1 and 2 without making a fuss.  That’s not how it’s supposed to be.  Just ask Yahweh.

Mahmoud Abbas, the PA president and Israel’s supposed “peace partner”, called for a day of rage on Wednesday because of advanced security measures on the Temple Mount.  Jumping the gun by a day, Arabs in Jerusalem started rioting.  I wish Yahweh would return, or maybe He’s waiting on us to act sensibly.  By that I mean that maybe He expects us to deal with the situation ourselves.

Switching Gears

See “An Israeli Christian killed his daughter because of her love for a Muslim, police say”.  This article is very misleading.  Arab Israelis live in a Muslim world, and they hold onto practices of their Muslim neighbors.  In an Arab Muslim family, that’s called an “honor killing”, and it’s legal.  It’s not legal in Israel, and it’s not what Christians are supposed to do.

I wish I could say that Arab Israeli Christians are a positive force for change in the Arab world.  I’ve met some who are, but I’ve met many more who are not.  Yahweh has some work to do.  Keep that in mind.  He may want to use you and/or me in the process.

“If My people who are called by My Name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7: 14)

Change that Yahweh calls “good” begins in the hearts of believers—people who are recognizable because they are different.

We are different because we belong to Him and are called by His Name.  We are Yahweh’s people, His followers.

That’s a serious problem.  Must Jewish People Convert to Christianity to be Saved? explains why.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
