Yahweh’s Name: Who are we to Believe?
This is what Yahweh and His prophets told us about Yahweh’s Name:
- Yahweh is Elohim’s personal Name forever. It’s the Name by which we are supposed to remember Him from generation to generation. (Exodus 3: 15)
- We were told to bless Yahweh’s name. (Psalm 113: 2)
- We were told to declare Yahweh’s Name to everyone. (Psalm 22: 22)
- We were told to sing praises to Yahweh’s Name. (Psalm 30: 4)
- We were told to give thanks to Yahweh’s Name. (Psalm 7: 17)
- We were told to proclaim Yahweh’s Name. (Deuteronomy 32:3)
The Bible is loaded with similar commands. I included just a few of them.
The sages forbade the use of Yahweh’s Name. In fact, according to them, simply saying Yahweh’s Name is blasphemy:
The blasphemer – [he] is not liable until he [explicitly] utters the name [of God]. Rabbi Yehoshua ben Korchah said, every day the witnesses testify using a substitute name [in place of the actual Divine Name uttered by the blasphemer]: “May Yossi smite Yossi.” Once the verdict has been reached, they would not execute [the defendant] [on the basis of testimony] using a substitute name. Rather, [the judges] send everyone outside, and inquire of the greatest [witness] among them, saying to him: “State explicitly what you heard,” and he states [the blasphemy verbatim]. And the judges stand upon their feet and render [their clothing]. And they may not [ever] mend [the rendered clothing]. And the second [witness] says, “I also [heard] like him,” and the third [witness] says, “I also [heard] like him.” (Sanhedrin 7: 5)
So, we have two opposing views. On one side we have Yahweh and people who spoke for Him legitimately. All of them told us to declare Yahweh’s Name boldly to everyone. On the other side, we have people who have determined that Yahweh and the people who spoke for Him legitimately were wrong. In fact, they see simply saying Yahweh’s Name as so wrong that the “blasphemer” is guilty of a capital offense.
Who are we to believe?
I’m almost embarrassed to say it because the answer is painfully obvious. People who reject Yahweh’s commands and prefer instead to follow an idiotic tradition are making a tragic mistake.
Do you realize that refusing to say Yahweh’s Name reduces it to naught? That, my friends, really is a serious offense.

“If My people who are called by My Name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7: 14)
Change that Yahweh calls “good” begins in the hearts of believers—people who are recognizable because they are different.
We are different because we belong to Him and are called by His Name. We are Yahweh’s people, His followers.
