The Aaronic Blessing—there is more to it than meets the eye

Most believers who are not familiar with the Aaronic Blessing by name will recognize it because they have heard it many times:

24 Yahweh bless you, and keep you; 25 Yahweh make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you; 26 Yahweh lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace. (Numbers 6: 24-26)

What’s so special about the Aaronic Blessing?

The Aaronic Blessing is the prayer that Yahweh told Aaron to use when he blessed the Children of Israel.  Notice that the Aaronic Blessing is three verses each beginning with Yahweh’s Name.  That’s because it has to do with the Trinity.

Although the word “Trinity” doesn’t appear in the Bible, the Bible does talk about Yahweh’s 3 forms: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  In the Aaronic Blessing, each Person in the Trinity is being called upon to bless the people.  That’s crucial.

Let’s take another look at each verse in the Aaronic Blessing and identify the Person upon whom we are calling:

  • 24 Yahweh bless you, and keep you—this verse is calling on Abba Yahweh or Yahweh the Father.
  • 25 Yahweh make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you—this verse is calling on Yahweh Tsidkenu, the Mashiach or Messiah.
  • 26 Yahweh lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace—this verse is calling on Ruach Yahweh or Ruach haKodesh, the Holy Spirit.

The next verse explains why the Aaronic Blessing is so important:

27 “So they shall invoke My Name on the sons of Israel, and then I will bless them.”

The Aaronic Blessing is a Conditional Promise

As you can see, the Aaronic Blessing is actually a conditional promise.  Yahweh told Aaron to invoke His Name over the Children of Israel three times—once for each Person in the Trinity.  Then He would bless them.

Aaron had a vital role to play in the process.  His job was to invoke Yahweh’s Name.  That’s our job, too.

Praying is important, but exactly what we pray is just as important.

Don’t underestimate the power of prayer, and don’t underestimate the power of the Aaronic Blessing.  If we pray that prayer over each other and over our country invoking Yahweh’s Name 3 times, Yahweh will do His part.  Let’s do our part.

“If My people who are called by My Name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7: 14)

Change that Yahweh calls “good” begins in the hearts of believers—people who are recognizable because they are different.

We are different because we belong to Him and are called by His Name.  We are Yahweh’s people, His followers.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
