Christianity in the U.S. isn’t what it Used to Be

The state of Christendom today is bewildering.  In the U.S., a supposedly Christian country, Christianity is shrinking.  See these articles:

I think those articles miss the mark because there is and always has been a huge difference between claiming to be a Christian and actually being one.  I believe we are witnessing something that the Messiah told us would happen.  He called it “separating the wheat from the chaff”:

“His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” (Matthew 3: 12)

Yahweh is separating true believers from the rest.  He is dividing this country into two groups: those who trust and obey him and pretenders.  Legitimate questions about the Sabbath Day notwithstanding, it used to be said that Sunday belonged to the “church”.  Today, the NFL proudly trumpets that Sunday belongs to them.  They are right.

I’ve lived long enough to witness changes in the U.S. that I thought could not happen, especially in my lifetime.  The first major change took place in 1973 when the Supreme Court ruled that abortion on demand was legal.  It has been a steady downhill progression since then.

Confusion about sexual identity is the latest development.  It’s a step beyond the LBGT question because so-called “intelligent people” are telling us that we have a right to decide which sex we are.  We can even change our minds as often as we want.  If that’s not evidence of stupidity, I don’t know what is.

People of faith aren’t confused by those issues, but our churches are loaded with churchgoers who are.  Evil is sweeping through the land.  True believers won’t follow the pack.  They know that that road leads to death and destruction of the spiritual kind.

In Iran, a notorious Islamist country that is hell-bent on wiping out other religions, Christianity is on the rise.  See “The Story of Iran’s Church in Two Sentences”:

The Iranian revolution of 1979 established a hard-line Islamic regime. Over the next two decades, Christians faced increasing opposition and persecution: All missionaries were kicked out, evangelism was outlawed, Bibles in Persian were banned and soon became scarce, and several pastors were killed. The church came under tremendous pressure. Many feared the small Iranian church would soon wither away and die.

But the exact opposite has happened. Despite continued hostility from the late 1970s until now, Iranians have become the Muslim people most open to the gospel in the Middle East.

Since the failed coup in Turkey, President Erdogan has followed Adolf Hitler’s playbook.  He has aggressively moved to eliminate any form of opposition to his Islamist policies.  As expected, Christians in Turkey have become targets.  See “TURKEY’S BACKLASH: Christians pay price as extreme Islam surges after attempted coup”:

Amid the cacophony of police sirens, low-flying helicopters and rifle fire, there was another sound during the attempt to overthrow president Recep Tayyip Erdogan: The wailing of Turkey’s imams.

From the nations’s 85,000 mosques, their amplified voices were heard calling upon the faithful to take to the streets and defy the plotters. The people listened.

Some bravely stood in front of tanks as they defended the democratically elected president. Around 240 from both sides died and 1,400 were injured.

For others the night presented different opportunities as hardline Muslim Sunnis, whipped up to a frenzy, targeted Turkey’s Christian community.

In Matalya, a sprawling city in Anatolia, once the heartland of Christianity in the East, they targeted a Protestant church.

The word church is a grand term for the small, modern shopfront nestled in the city’s minority Alevi district.

Christianity in Turkey will increase despite or maybe because of what is happening.  Many so-called “Muslims” in Turkey who I refer to as MINOs, Muslims in name only, will see what is taking place and turn away from the evil in their midst.  Yahweh’s Spirit will lead them to Him the same way He is leading believers in Iran to Him.

I expect the same thing to happen all over the world.  Actually, it’s happening now.  So while Christians are targeted in Nigeria, for example, by an Islamist government, true believers are growing stronger and there are more of them. It’s not easy, but it’s not supposed to be.  The easy path is to go along and get along.  That’s not the right path.

I used to be amazed that SnyderTalk readership is growing more rapidly in China and Southeast Asia than it is in the U.S., but not anymore.  Yahweh’s Spirit is using SnyderTalk the way He wants, and I am rejoicing.

The Messiah said,

“All this I have told you so that you will not fall away. They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. They will do such things because they have not known the Father or Me.” (John 16: 1-3)

That’s where we are today.  The next step in the U.S. is to target Christians.  That’s happening already, too.  See “Right-Wing Extremists Are a Bigger Threat to America Than ISIS”.

Who are those “right-wing extremists”?  According to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, they are people like you and me.

If you think I am exaggerating, let me assure you that I am not.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
