Obama Earned the Antipathy Heading His Way, but Have We Learned Anything?

Last Sunday, the Washington Post ran an editorial titled “Iran provokes the world as Obama does nothing”:

IRAN IS following through on the nuclear deal it struck with a U.S.-led coalition in an utterly predictable way: It is racing to fulfill those parts of the accord that will allow it to collect $100 billion in frozen funds and end sanctions on its oil exports and banking system, while expanding its belligerent and illegal activities in other areas — and daring the West to respond.

Unfortunately, the Obama administration’s response to these provocations has also been familiar. It is doing its best to downplay them — and thereby encouraging Tehran to press for still-greater advantage.

We’ve pointed out how the regime of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has unjustly sentenced Post correspondent Jason Rezaian to prison and arrested two businessmen with U.S. citizenship or residence since signing the nuclear accord. There have been no penalties for those outrageous violations of human rights. Now a United Nations panel has determined that Iran test-fired a nuclear-capable missile on Oct. 10 with a range of at least 600 miles, in violation of a U.N. resolution that prohibits such launches. Moreover, it appears likely that a second missile launch occurred on Nov. 21, also in violation of Security Council Resolution 1929.

The U.S. response? “We are now actively considering the appropriate consequences to that launch in October,” State Department official Stephen Mull testified at a Senate committee hearing Thursday. In other words, there have so far been none — other than a speech by the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations blaming the Security Council for the lack of action. As for the second missile launch, the administration claims to be investigating it, though it likely has in its possession the intelligence necessary to make a judgment.

It’s not hard to guess the reasons for this fecklessness. President Obama is reluctant to do anything that might derail the nuclear deal before Iran carries out its commitments, including uninstalling thousands of centrifuges and diluting or removing tons of enriched uranium. The same logic prompted him to tolerate Iran’s malign interventions in Syria, Yemen and elsewhere, along with the arrest of Mr. Rezaian, while the pact was under negotiation.

Contrast the Washington Post editorial with Obama’s assessment of the Iran nuclear deal.  He claims that it is one of his top 2015 achievements.  No remorse, no regrets.  He’s all in.  He probably thinks that it will be the cornerstone of his legacy.

According to Bloomberg, “Iran Nuclear Deal Restricts U.S. More Than Congress Knew”:

Members of Congress knew the Iran nuclear deal came with strings attached. They just didn’t know how many.

When the administration presented the agreement to Congress, lawmakers were told that new sanctions on Iran would violate the deal. Now the administration is trying to sidestep a recently passed provision to tighten rules on visas for those who have visited Iran.

Since the accord was struck last summer, the U.S. emphasis on complying with its end of the deal has publicly eclipsed its efforts to pressure Iran. In that time, Iranian authorities have detained two American dual nationals and sentenced a third on what most observers say are trumped up espionage charges. Iran’s military has conducted two missile tests, one of which the U.N. said violated sanctions, and engaged in a new offensive with Russia in Syria to shore up the country’s dictator, Bashar al-Assad.

In the latest example of the U.S. effort to reassure Iran, the State Department is scrambling to confirm to Iran that it won’t enforce new rules that would increase screening of Europeans who have visited Iran and plan to come to America. There is concern the new visa waiver provisions, included in the omnibus budget Congress passed last week, would hinder business people seeking to open up new ventures in Iran once sanctions are lifted.

U.S. officials confirmed over the weekend that Secretary of State John Kerry sent his Iranian counterpart, Javad Zarif, a letter promising to use executive powers to waive the new restrictions on those who have visited Iran but are citizens of countries in the Visa Waiver Program. These officials also told us that they have told Iranian diplomats that, because they are not specific to Iran, the new visa waiver provisions do not violate the detailed sequence of steps Iran and other countries committed to taking as part of the agreement. Even so, the State Department is promising to sidestep the new rule.

This is the gist of it: Obama negotiated a lousy nuclear deal with Iran, but he doesn’t know it.  He thinks it’s a great deal.

I call that delusion.  Obama makes Neville Chamberlain look like a lion.

Obama is scared that Iran will back out of the deal and damage his legacy even though sanctions are about to be lifted.

I call that wimpish.  I’m certain that ISIS sees Obama as a wimp.

The resounding criticism that Obama has received since the Paris and San Bernardino attacks has caused him to act though, but it’s just a show.  All of our enemies know it, ISIS especially.

Vladimir Putin has taken center stage in the Middle East.  Our allies know it even if Obama doesn’t.

No one can accuse the Washington Post of being a right-wing, conservative newspaper.  Post editors got it right.

At this point, people who continue to support Obama have to ignore the facts.  They blindly follow him no matter what.  They live in lala land.

The Iran deal puts our nation and the rest of the world at greater risk than we have ever known.  A nuclear armed Iran is a threat to everyone—especially Israel.

Unlike Obama, Iran’s leaders have demonstrated that they mean what they say.  They have made two things crystal clear:

  1. They plan to continue promoting terrorism around the world.
  2. They intend to wipe Israel off the map.

They mean it.  Even so, Obama is doing everything he can to prevent Congress from intervening to protect the American people.

Until recently, Congress had no idea about the magnitude of the restrictions on the U.S. that Obama agreed to when he negotiated the Iran deal.  Now they do.

Will Congress summon the courage to stand up to Obama?  If they do, will Obama ignore them and move ahead anyway with executive orders?  If Obama bypasses Congress with executive orders, what will legislators do?

The American people are beginning to wake up, but Congress is sleepwalking.  Now that Republicans control both houses of Congress, they can’t place all the blame on Democrats.

The legislative branch isn’t a toothless tiger.  Republican Congressional leaders have made the decision to talk rather than act.  They are a huge part of the problem.

As an aside, I like Ted Cruz because he has taken a stand against his own party.  He realizes that Republicans deserve about half the blame for the mess we are in.

For 7 years, Obama has been doing his utmost to destroy what this nation stands for, and he has betrayed our allies.  He has set us back decades.  Over the next 13 months, there is no telling what he will try to do.

Obama has earned the antipathy that’s heading his way.  We should be ashamed for electing him.  We deserve antipathy, too.

Philosophically, the difference between Obama and Mrs. Clinton is zilch.  They are birds of a feather.

Now, see this—“Man rapes grand-daughter, mom kills her”:

An Egyptian man pulled his two-year-old granddaughter from her mother’s arms while she was asleep and raped her, prompting the mother to kill her daughter to avert a scandal, newspapers in the Arab country reported on Thursday.

The 59-year-old grandfather, identified as Faraj, waited for his daughter Merfat, 23, to go to bed before pulling her daughter out of bed and raping her in his room at their house in the East-central town of Sohag.

Newspapers said the mother, after discovering what happened, drowned her daughter in a water bucket to avert a scandal in the conservative countryside town.

Police arrested the mother and her father on murder and rape charges, they added.

If asked about it, I’m certain that Obama and Clinton would have an explanation, but it would make no sense.  They won’t admit that there are serious problems in Islam.

Admittedly, this case is an outlier, but it’s not out of character.

The facts are simple: a mother killed her 2-year-old daughter because she was raped by her grandfather.

What logic did she use?

She used Islamic logic.  She didn’t want to offend her neighbors and risk a backlash.  She did it to “avert a scandal” and protect her safety.

Every country in Europe is experiencing these kinds of problems right now.  They are Islamic problems.

European leaders have been burying their heads in the sand for years pretending not to see, and look at what they have gotten in return.  Paris is just one example.

Wake up America.  It happened in San Bernardino, Boston, Dallas, and Fort Hood, too, and it will happen again.

People like Obama and Clinton can’t be allowed to govern this nation.  The world has suffered enough already because of them.

Irony of the Day

The Washington Post ran an article about a Muslim family of 11 that was denied admission to the U.S.  They were heading for Disneyland.

See “US keeps Disneyland-bound British Muslim family out of the country”.

It’s a heart wrenching story that Democrats will use to pummel thinking people who understand the risks associated with improper vetting of visitors to the U.S.  I don’t know the facts of the case, but I would rather be safe than sorry.

These articles were published on the same day, one of them in the Post:

Someone needs to explain the meanings of these words to Democrats and other people who have trouble assimilating information: reciprocity and proportionality.

When Muslims control countries, routinely they forbid Christians from practicing their faith.  They persecute them in many ways, and in some Muslim countries, Christians are being tortured and killed right now simply because they are Christians.

Don’t feel bad when the U.S. denies some Muslims access to Disneyland.  That doesn’t come close to the things they do to Christians every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

They do the same kinds of things to Jews.

Bottom line: I’m much less concerned about disrupting the plans of a Muslim family that wanted to visit Disneyland than I am about Christians and Jews who are being slaughtered by Muslims.

Remember: proportionality and reciprocity.

Washington Post—U.S. plans raids to deport families who surged across border:

The Department of Homeland Security has begun preparing for a series of raids that would target for deportation hundreds of families who have flocked to the United States since the start of last year, according to people familiar with the operation.

The nationwide campaign, to be carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents as soon as early January, would be the first large-scale effort to deport families who have fled violence in Central America, those familiar with the plan said. More than 100,000 families with both adults and children have made the journey across the southwest border since last year, though this migration has largely been overshadowed by a related surge of unaccompanied minors.

The ICE operation would target only adults and children who have already been ordered removed from the United States by an immigration judge, according to officials familiar with the undertaking, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because planning is ongoing and the operation has not been given final approval by DHS. The adults and children would be detained wherever they can be found and immediately deported. The number targeted is expected to be in the hundreds and possibly greater.

SnyderTalk Comment: This is a good start, but that’s all it is.

See “Deportations under Obama plummet during second term”.

It’s typical Obama: all show and no substance.  He can’t be trusted.

It gets worse.  See “Democratic Candidates Blast Obama Administration Plan To Deport Families”.

Obama is trying to salvage what’s left of his and the Democrat Party’s credibility.  It won’t work.  Most Americans are awake now, and more of us are waking up every day.

Even so, Democrat candidates for president are jumping on Obama. They smell blood in the water.

I hope the Democrat Party experiences what Pablo Escobar experienced in Columbia before he was shot and killed. A vigilante group known as Los Pepes formed and helped law enforcement authorities locate him and bring him down.

I think that’s what’s happening now.  Either the leading contenders for president from the Democrat Party are out-of-touch with their base, or they are out-of-touch with their leader.  Whatever the case may be, it’s a bad sign for Democrats.

The lesson: Escobar thought that he could do anything he wanted. He finally went too far, and the people he counted on turned against him.

Thomas Jefferson is the father of the Democrat Party and the University of Virginia where I taught for 25 years.  The Democrat Party today doesn’t resemble the party he created.

I call the Democrat Party the Party of Perversity for obvious reasons.  I refer to its adherents as dumb asses because the party’s logo is a donkey.

I wish I had confidence in the Republican Party.  I don’t.  I do like some of its candidates, though.

If Donald Trump becomes president, he will owe his success to the Democrat Party.  They have created the conditions that make him an attractive candidate.

I would vote for Trump over any Democrat, and I wouldn’t think twice about it.  I have reached the point where I think anyone is better than a Democrat.

For the record: I once was a Democrat, and I have never been a Republican.

Jerusalem PostIn Christmas message, Abbas calls on world to protect Palestinians from Israel:

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday accused Israel of continuing to “consolidate an Apartheid regime by accelerating policies that destroy the two-state solution.”

Abbas’s latest accusation came in a “Christmas Message” in which he repeated other charges against Israel, such as the construction of an “Annexation Wall” and the uprooting of “historic olive trees” near Bethlehem.

“Jesus is a symbol for all Palestinians,” Abbas said. “Palestine and its people take pride in being the birthplace of Christianity and having the oldest Christian community in the world.”

Palestinians in Bethlehem, he said, would celebrate Christmas this year “surrounded by 18 illegal settlements and an annexation wall, which are taking over their land.”

Abbas went on to say this Christmas comes during a particularly difficult period and that international intervention is “desperately needed to protect the Palestinians.”

SnyderTalk Comment: With all due respect, Mahmoud Abbas is a two-faced liar.  I wish the world would see him for what he is, but that’s not going to happen.

Abbas wants international intervention.  I’m praying for Divine intervention.  Let Abbas tell Yahweh his lies.

Amir Taheri—The United States and Islam: What Is Going On?

With Americans still trying to absorb the shock of San Bernardino massacre, the perennial debate about “why do they hate us” is on with more intensity than ever since 9/11. The irony is that no major power in recent history has gone out of its way as has the United States to help, respect, please and, yes, appease Islam. And, yet, no other nation has been a victim of vilification, demonization, and violence on the part of the Islamists as has the U.S.

Both Presidents John Adams and Thomas Jefferson tried to appease the Islamist pirates of North Africa in the hope of persuading them to cease their raids on U.S. commercial ships and stop capturing Americans and selling them as slaves in the Mediterranean. They sent peace missions laden with gifts and cash, and flattered the pirates, successors to Kheireddin, the Red Bearded One, in almost lyrical terms. In the end, however, they had to take military action to cut the head off the snake. However, the episode was soon forgotten, except in the U.S. Marine Corps, where it became part of its folklore, and the U.S., a nation built on the principle of religious freedom, resumed its benevolent attitude towards Islam.

I remember back in the 1980s, the diplomat then in charge of the United Sates counterterrorism program, Robert Oakley, insisted that the U.S. will never be targeted by homegrown Islamist terrorists because it was “their final destination, their last best hope.”

That was the time when groups controlled by Ayatollah Khomeini kidnapped or killed Americans in the Middle East.

So what happened to make that “final destination” a stopover to paradise for martyrs?

SnyderTalk Comment: I can boil the problem down to three words: the Democrat Party.  Obama and Clinton are just alike where radical Islam is concerned.  Neither one of them can be trusted.  But they aren’t the only Democrats.  As a group, Democrats are the problem.

NPRObama Makes ‘No Apologies’ For Fighting ISIS Within ‘American Values’:

Stressing that his administration has “been at this for a long time,” President Obama launched a forceful defense of his strategy against ISIS in a year-end interview with NPR. He makes “no apologies,” he said, for wanting to target terror groups “appropriately and in a way that is consistent with American values.”

Speaking with Steve Inskeep, host of Morning Edition, Obama also urged Americans to “keep things in perspective” when it comes to ISIS, though he says he understands “why people are worried.”

“This is not an organization that can destroy the United States,” he said, nor is it a “huge industrial power” that poses great risks to the U.S. “institutionally or in a systemic way. But they can hurt us, and they can hurt our people and our families.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Obama has a warped sense of “American values”.  They are his values.  That’s the problem.

Washington PostTrump played a clever trick when he called Clinton’s bathroom visit ‘disgusting’:

On Monday night, Donald Trump made his latest polarizing comment, saying it was “too disgusting” to talk about Hillary Clinton’s use of the bathroom during the last Democratic debate and that she had got “schlonged” by Barack Obama when she lost to him in the 2008 Democratic primary.

Trump was surely talking off-the-cuff in his usual style — and the comments were criticized as offensive and sexist — but it was another example of his mastery in exploiting the psychological biases of conservatives who see much to dislike in today’s society and express support for Trump in the polls.

In fact, a growing mass of academic research has shown that conservatives have a particular revulsion to “disgusting” images. In this line of thinking, Trump’s decision to describe Clinton, one of the most disliked people by conservatives, as a “disgusting” figure would have been an especially powerful way to rile up his supporters.

Caroline Glick—Rubio, Cruz and US global leadership:

For the first time in a decade, Americans are beginning to think seriously about foreign policy; But are they too late?

At some point between 2006 and 2008, the American people decided to turn their backs on the world. Between the seeming futility of the war in Iraq and the financial collapse of 2008, Americans decided they’d had enough.

In Barack Obama, they found a leader who could channel their frustration. Obama’s foreign policy, based on denying the existence of radical Islam and projecting the responsibility for Islamic aggression on the US and its allies, suited their mood just fine. If America is responsible, then America can walk away. Once it is gone, so the thinking has gone, the Muslims will forget their anger and leave America alone.

Sadly, Obama’s foreign policy assumptions are utter nonsense. America’s abandonment of global leadership has not made things better. Over the past seven years, the legions of radical Islam have expanded and grown more powerful than ever before. And now in the aftermath of the jihadist massacres in Paris and San Bernardino, the threats have grown so abundant that even Obama cannot pretend them away.

As a consequence, for the first time in a decade, Americans are beginning to think seriously about foreign policy. But are they too late? Can the next president repair the damage Obama has caused? The Democrats give no cause for optimism. Led by former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential hopefuls stubbornly insist that there is nothing wrong with Obama’s foreign policy. If they are elected to succeed him, they pledge to follow in his footsteps.

On the Republican side, things are more encouraging, but also more complicated.

Republican presidential hopefuls are united in their rejection of Obama’s policy of ignoring the Islamic supremacist nature of the enemy. All reject the failed assumptions of Obama’s foreign policy.

All have pledged to abandon them on their first day in office. Yet for all their unity in rejecting Obama’s positions, Republicans are deeply divided over what alternative foreign policy they would adopt.

New York TimesMars Rover Finds Changing Rocks, Surprising Scientists:

As NASA’s Curiosity rover treks up a three-mile-high mountain on Mars, the rocks are changing. That says something about how the planet’s climate and environment changed more than three billion years ago — but scientists are not sure what.

Since it landed more than three years ago in a 96-mile-wide depression known as Gale Crater, Curiosity has made a number of discoveries, notably that the crater once held lakes of fresh water. For most of that time, the rocks it encountered were generally basaltic, a volcanic composition typical on Mars.

“Now in the recent few months, that has changed,” Ashwin R. Vasavada, the project scientist for the mission, said at a news conference on Thursday at a meeting of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco, where researchers were presenting some of their newest results.

They have surprising clues but no definitive story, yet.

The attraction of Gale Crater to planetary scientists is the mountain at the center. A space rock slamming into Mars created the crater about 3.6 billion years ago. It then filled with sediment, which was subsequently carved away by the wind, leaving behind the formation known as Mount Sharp.

Each layer of sedimentary rock tells something about the geological conditions at the time the rock formed, meaning that Curiosity, which arrived at the base of the mountain in September 2014, is in a sense moving forward through the geological history of Mars as it climbs.

What has caught the attention of Dr. Vasavada and his colleagues lately is silica, a class of minerals made of silicon and oxygen. The evidence points to the action of liquid water even after the lakes disappeared.

“Groundwater passed through the rock multiple times, leaving different chemical signatures behind,” Dr. Vasavada said.

Soeren Kern—Germans Stock Up on Weapons for Self-Defense

Germans, facing an influx of more than one million asylum seekers from Africa, Asia and the Middle East, are rushing to arm themselves.

All across Germany, a country with some of the most stringent gun-control laws in Europe, demand is skyrocketing for non-lethal self-defense weapons, including pepper sprays, gas pistols, flare guns, electroshock weapons and animal repellants. Germans are also applying for weapons permits in record numbers.

The scramble to acquire weapons comes amid a migrant-driven surge in violent crimes — including rapes, robberies and aggravated assaults — in cities and towns throughout the country.

German authorities, however, are going to great lengths to argue that the German citizenry’s sudden interest in self-defense has nothing whatsoever to do with mass migration into the country, despite ample evidence to the contrary.

In recent weeks, German newspapers have published dozens of stories with headlines such as: “Germany is Afraid — And Grabs for the Weapon,” “Germans are Arming Themselves: The Demand for Weapons Explodes,” “More and More People are Buying a Weapon,” “Security: Hands Up!” “The Need for Security Increases,” “Boom in Weapons Stores,” and “Bavarians are Arming Themselves— Afraid of Refugees?

SnyderTalk Comment: Germans are getting it.  So are the French.

Obama and Democrats still don’t get it.  They probably won’t get it, or they won’t until they need to defend themselves.

Erez Striem—The Reconfiguration of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt:

The violent conflict between the Muslim Brotherhood and Egyptian state institutions escalated after Mohamed Morsi and his government were overthrown in July 2013. The crackdown on the movement since then has included the killing of thousands of its supporters, the arrest of tens of thousands of Islamist opponents of the regime, the banning of the movement, its classification as a terrorist organization, and the elimination of its economic and social infrastructure. The Muslim Brotherhood’s ensuing desperate state has led to far reaching changes in its structure, ideology, and nature of activity. • The process of Muslim Brotherhood members slipping into various types of violent action is clear, and it is believed that at least some of the small terrorist cells operating in the Nile Valley region were founded by former Muslim Brotherhood activists. It is also known that a number of former activists have joined the Islamic State branch in the Sinai Peninsula over the past two years. This dangerous process is likely to have momentous consequences not only for the stability of Egypt, but also for regional security.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Exodus 32

25 Now when Moses saw that the people were out of control—for Aaron had let them get out of control to be a derision among their enemies— 26 then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, “Whoever is for Yahweh, come to me!” And all the sons of Levi gathered together to him. 27 He said to them, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘Every man of you put his sword upon his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate in the camp, and kill every man his brother, and every man his friend, and every man his neighbor.’” 28 So the sons of Levi did as Moses instructed, and about three thousand men of the people fell that day. 29 Then Moses said, “Dedicate yourselves today to Yahweh—for every man has been against his son and against his brother—in order that He may bestow a blessing upon you today.” 30 On the next day Moses said to the people, “You yourselves have committed a great sin; and now I am going up to Yahweh, perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.” 31 Then Moses returned to Yahweh, and said, “Alas, this people has committed a great sin, and they have made a god of gold for themselves. 32 “But now, if You will, forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me out from Your book which You have written!” 33 Yahweh said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book. 34 But go now, lead the people where I told you. Behold, My angel shall go before you; nevertheless in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.” 35 Then Yahweh smote the people, because of what they did with the calf which Aaron had made.
