The Telegraph—China is moving into the Middle East – why is no one worried?:

The delicate balance of power in the Middle East has already suffered one dramatic upheaval this year, after Moscow’s decision to launch its military intervention in support of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. Now there are mounting concerns that the region could suffer further instability following China’s decision to establish its first overseas military outpost in one of the world’s most troubled hotshots.

Ever since President Obama decided to scale down American involvement in a region that has for decades been regarded as Washington’s sphere of influence, policymakers have been warning that the power vacuum would be filled by regimes that did not have Western interests at heart.

The absence of an effective Western policy to deal with the chaos in Syria prompted Vladimir Putin to form a military alliance with Iran to save the Assad regime from annihilation.

Now the Chinese seem set to make their own power play by establishing their first overseas military base in the strategically important state of Djibouti, one of the Pentagon’s most important listening posts for the Arab world and Africa.

Sited at the junction between the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, Djibouti is home to Camp Lemmonier, the Pentagon’s main intelligence-gathering post for the Arab world and the strategically-important shipping lanes through the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea. The base hosts 4,500 U.S. military personnel and has become one of Washington’s key listening posts since the September 11 attacks.

SnyderTalk Comment: I’m worried, because it really is a cause for concern.  I’ve been addressing it in SnyderTalk for awhile.

Since it’s a long-term problem, people who can’t see beyond the ends of their noses won’t believe it’s a problem until it hits them like a sledge hammer.

The combination of Russia and China in the Middle East is a much more serious long-term threat to peace in the world than either China or Russia alone.  I think that’s what’s going to happen.  Nothing we say or do can stop it from happening.

I have a strong hunch that the U.S. will join Russia and China in coordinated fashion before it’s over.  I believe that will produce a problem the likes of which we have not seen.

His Name is Yahweh, the website, is a companion of the book His Name is Yahweh.  Both of them explain the importance of God’s Name.

The website is loaded with factual information that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Yahweh is our Savior and that the Messiah is Yahweh.

I hope you will take a few minutes and explore the website.  I also hope you will share it with your friends and family.

It’s time for believers to tell the world about our God by His Name—Yahweh.

Caroline Glick—Rubio, Cruz and US global leadership:

At some point between 2006 and 2008, the American people decided to turn their backs on the world. Between the seeming futility of the war in Iraq and the financial collapse of 2008, Americans decided they’d had enough.

In Barack Obama, they found a leader who could channel their frustration. Obama’s foreign policy, based on denying the existence of radical Islam and projecting the responsibility for Islamic aggression on the US and its allies, suited their mood just fine. If America is responsible, then America can walk away. Once it is gone, so the thinking has gone, the Muslims will forget their anger and leave America alone.

Sadly, Obama’s foreign policy assumptions are utter nonsense. America’s abandonment of global leadership has not made things better. Over the past seven years, the legions of radical Islam have expanded and grown more powerful than ever before. And now in the aftermath of the jihadist massacres in Paris and San Bernadino, the threats have grown so abundant that even Obama cannot pretend them away.

SnyderTalk Comment: As usual, Glick hit the nail on the head.

Some say that Obama is incompetent.

Others say that Obama is stupid.

Still others say that Obama knows what he’s doing, but he’s evil.

Regardless, he has endangered all of our lives.  Thankfully, the American people are waking up.

If we elect the wrong person to replace him, things will get much worse going forward.

Roger Scruton—The Future of European Civilization: Lessons for America

America has much to learn from Europe’s current condition. The decline in religious faith has led to a universal weakening of European society and a loss of confidence in the value of its civilization. And the effects have been grave: throngs of unassimilated immigrants, military threats from abroad, and confusion about national identity. America, by contrast, still shows many signs of strength. Nonetheless, should we lose our sense of shared identity, Europe’s path likely awaits. What can Americans learn from Europe? Does America have hidden strengths which, if properly used, will allow us to avoid a similar fate? And are there areas in which Europe is faring better than we are?

Dexter Van Zile—Upcoming Conference to Study Assault on Pro-Israel Evangelicals:

Evangelical Protestants are part of the backbone of American civil society. Numbering about 90 million people, these Bible-believing Christians have eclipsed mainline Protestants who comprised the Protestant establishment that ruled the roost in the United States in the decades before, during and after World War II. Many elites in the Washington-New York beltway regard evangelical Protestants with contempt, but this does not diminish their influence. Evangelicals have had a huge impact on presidential and Congressional elections since helping Ronald Reagan win the presidency in 1980.

Because evangelicals regard the Bible as a reliable expression of God’s word, they have been some of Israel’s most ardent supporters in the modern era. Polling data indicates that evangelicals are more likely than American Jews to believe that God gave the land of Israel to the Jewish people. Moreover, ardent evangelical faith corresponds with higher levels of patriotism; evangelicals are more unashamedly pro-American than many other segments of American society. This helps explain why military enlistment rates are higher in the American Bible Belt than in other parts of the country, particularly the northeast.

In light of the role evangelical Protestants play in the American body politic, it’s no surprise they have been targeted by anti-Israel activists in both the U.S. and the Middle East.

NBC NewsMother Teresa to Be Sainted After 2nd Miracle Declared: Vatican:

Mother Teresa, who dedicated her life to helping India’s poor, will be made a saint in the Roman Catholic Church, the Vatican said Friday.

She will likely be canonized in September to coincide with the 19th anniversary of her death and Pope Francis’ Holy Year of Mercy, according to an Italian Catholic newspaper report.

The pontiff marked his 79th birthday on Thursday by approving a decree that the nun had performed a second miracle 11 years after her death, the Vatican confirmed in a statement.

SnyderTalk Comment: Memo to pope RE Mother Teresa: all believers are saints.

Doug Bandow—Dump New Ottomans from NATO: Shoot Down of Russian Plane Shows Turkey to be Dangerous Ally:

Turkey’s rash decision to shoot down a Russian plane for violating its airspace hasn’t triggered World War III. But Ankara demonstrated where it stands. With the Islamic State and against the West. The justification for Turkey’s membership in NATO and America’s defense guarantee for Ankara long ago passed. Turkey’s irresponsible action proves that it is no U.S. ally.

The Obama administration’s war against the Islamic State is turning into another interminable conflict that serves the interests of other nations far more than America. U.S. policy has been impossibly incoherent, attempting to do everything: oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, shove aside next door Iran, defeat vicious jihadist insurgents, promote ineffectual “moderate” forces, convince the Gulf States to act against the extremists they’ve been supporting, promote diplomacy without participation by Damascus and Tehran, and convince Turkey to serve U.S. rather than Islamic interests.

While Russia’s September entry into the war outraged Washington, Moscow showed clarity and realism. Russia simply sought to bolster Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad against insurgents dominated by radical Islamists. Ironically, this approach was far more likely than the administration’s confused policy to advance America’s core interest of defeating ISIL and al-Qaeda affiliates such as al-Nusra. The U.S. had little choice but to accommodate Moscow, despite nutty proposals from some Republican presidential candidates to shoot down Russian planes.

SnyderTalk Comment: Doug is a smart guy, and he’s right, but he could have written this article years ago if he had been reading SnyderTalk.

Maybe he is reading it, but it’s taken him this long to believe what I have been saying for years.

By the way, saying “dangerous ally” is putting it mildly.

Shooting down the Russian airliner is a big deal from a NATO perspective, but coddling Islamists is a much bigger threat to us and the rest of the world.

Erdogan is an Islamist, and he’s turning Turkey into an Islamist dictatorship.  Additionally, Erdogan is funding ISIS by opening the Turkish market to oil imported from Syria and Iraq.  That oil was stolen by ISIS, and he’s enabling them by converting it to cash.

“Liberals” still don’t get it, so even though Doug is late, he’s ahead of the curve.

See “Erdogan calls MP ‘traitor’ for telling RT that ISIS got chemical weapons via Turkey”.  One example of being a traitor is to reveal sensitive, accurate information.

If the MP is a traitor, he was correct, and in Erdogan’s Turkey, that’s information that he regards as classified.

It’s no surprise that Erdogan doesn’t want information about his enabling chemical weapons attacks made available to the public.  It follows by just a few days Putin’s presentation of evidence that Erdogan is enabling ISIS by buying their stolen oil .

I’ve said this before many times, but I am going to say it again anyway: Erdogan can’t be trusted.  I wouldn’t trust him to walk my dog.

Also see “Israel and Turkey Restore Diplomatic Relations”.  This is a side benefit of Erdogan being made to feel the heat.  It’s not a solution to the problem, but it is evidence that the problem is beginning to get the message.

Erdogan is a large part of the problem.  It won’t be solved until the Turkish people reject Erdogan and people like him.

Shoshana Bryen—When All Else Fails, Erdogan Calls Israel

The announcement of the restoration of Israel-Turkish relations should be seen in the context of Turkey having nowhere else to go.

Turkey’s relations with Israel have been strained, to put it mildly, since 2010 when, through a non-profit organization, Turkey funded the 2010 Gaza Flotilla aimed at breaking the Israeli-Egyptian blockade of the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.

After a bloody confrontation, which ended in the deaths of nine Turks, Turkey demanded that Israel be tried in the International Criminal Court (ICC) and subjected to UN sanction. The ICC ruled that Israel’s actions did not constitute war crimes. In addition, the UN’s Palmer Commission concluded that the blockade of Gaza was legal, and that the IDF commandos who boarded the Mavi Marmara ship had faced “organized and violent resistance from a group of passengers,” and were therefore required to use force for their own protection. The commission, however, did label the commandos’ force “excessive and unreasonable.”

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had already in the past shown hostility towards Israel. Already in 2009, then Prime Minister Erdogan denounced Israel’s President Shimon Peres publicly at the Davos World Economic Forum. “When it comes to killing, you know very well how to kill. You know very well how to kill.” When Hamas was thrown out of Damascus, Erdogan invited Hamas leaders Khaled Mashaal and Ismail Haniyeh to put the terrorist organization’s “West Bank and Jerusalem Headquarters” in Istanbul.

SnyderTalk Comment: Erdogan is a snake.  Don’t trust him.  He’s a liar.

Erdogan will turn on Israel in a heartbeat when he thinks he has recovered enough politically.

It’s the Islamist way.  It’s in the Quran.

CNNAll schools shut down in Augusta County, Virginia, over Islam homework:

After a teacher at a Virginia school handed out a standard homework assignment on Islam, such an angry backlash flooded in that it prompted officials to close every single school in the county as a safety precaution.

“While there has been no specific threat of harm to students, schools and school offices will be closed Friday, December 18, 2015,” Augusta County Schools said. Extracurricular activities were shut down Thursday afternoon.

And social media exploded over the school lesson — a simple drawing assignment — into a caustic discussion about religion and education.

Draw this

When the world geography class at Riverheads High School in Staunton rolled around to the subject of major world religions, homework on Islam asked students to copy religious calligraphy.

It read:

“Here is the shahada, the Islamic statement of faith, written in Arabic. In the space below, try copying it by hand. This should give you an idea of the artistic complexity of calligraphy.”

The illustrative classical Arabic phrase was the basic statement in Islam. It translated to: “There is no god but Allah, and Mohammed is the messenger of Allah.”

SnyderTalk Comment: I want to focus on the wisdom of giving this assignment.

In today’s world, after several instances of teachers being criticized for doing similar things and after several radical Islamist attacks on innocent U.S. citizens, you would have to be out of your mind to ask your class to write it.

Staunton is just across the mountain from Charlottesville where I lived for 25 years.  I know lots of people in Stanton, and I am positive that virtually all of them agree with me.

What was the teacher’s problem?  Is he/she stupid?

Having lived there and having been actively involved in Virginia politics as a Democrat, I can tell you what the problem is.

The teacher is a Democrat.  He/she thinks of himself/herself as a “liberal”.  The politically correct “liberal” thing to do is to tell the world that Islam is a peaceful religion despite all the evidence to the contrary.

I worked closely with many teachers just like him/her.  They are intelligent people, but they aren’t smart.

They are what Vladimir Lenin referred to as “useful idiots”.  They are putting all of us at risk, because inadvertently they are doing ISIS’ bidding.

Catholic HeraldPrince Charles warns Middle East Christianity ‘under threat like never before’:

Prince Charles has warned that Christianity in the Middle East is “under threat like never before”.

In a visit to Archbishop’s House, Westminster, yesterday, to meet with Syrian and Iraqi Christians and representatives of those suffering persecution in the Middle East, the Prince of Wales said that “Christian communities in the Middle East are being targeted like never before by fanatical Islamist militants intent on dividing communities that had lived together for centuries.

“The impact of all this unmentionable violence and cruelty has had on individual lives is heart breaking,” he said: “Earlier this year I spent time with three remarkable people who had been subject to unimaginable levels of barbaric horror, including a Jesuit priest who had been working in Homs in Syria and a Chaldean Catholic priest from northern Iraq who had been kidnapped by Daesh, threatened daily with beheading but never renounced with faith, but had not renounced his faith nor lost his power of forgiveness. Their heart-rending testimonies are a powerful reminder, if indeed such a reminder is needed, of the terrifying depths to which people will sink, in the name of so-called faith.”

SnyderTalk Comment: And Obama said, “We will accept no Christian refugees from Iraq and Syria.”

That’s not a joke.  That’s what he said, and that’s official U.S. policy right now.

Christians in Pakistan get the same cold shoulder.  It’s so bad that Pakistani Christians are sent back home to face tremendous persecution and possibly death.  All the while, the Department of Homeland Security releases illegal aliens back into our society after they have committed heinous crimes.

Where’s the logic?  Where’s the justice?  Where’s the compassion that we hear so much about.

Times of IsraelRather than carry Israelis, Kuwait Airways drops NYC-London route:

Kuwait Airways is eliminating service between New York and London after the US Department of Transportation ordered the carrier to stop refusing to sell tickets to Israelis.

Namrata Kolachalam, a spokeswoman for the Department of Transportation, announced the airline’s decision, USA Today reported Tuesday.

On September 30, the department announced that the airline had acted illegally when it refused to sell a ticket to Eldad Gatt, an Israeli citizen, in 2013. On October 29, the department ordered the airline to “cease and desist from refusing to transport Israeli citizens between the US and any third country where they are allowed to disembark,” USA Today reported, citing a letter from the department’s assistant general counsel for enforcement.

The newspaper reported that Kuwait Airways explained its refusal to sell Gatt a ticket by saying it needed to comply with a Kuwaiti law barring citizens from agreements “with entities or persons residing in Israel, or with Israeli citizenship.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Most people in the U.S. will never hear about this.  Many of those who hear about it don’t care.  Some of them think that the Kuwaiti airline is justified when it refuses to carry Israelis.

Oddly enough, most of them don’t think they are anti-Semites.  Well, they are.  See the first video in this SnyderTalk post.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Exodus 32

15 Then Moses turned and went down from the mountain with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand, tablets which were written on both sides; they were written on one side and the other. 16 The tablets were God’s work, and the writing was God’s writing engraved on the tablets. 17 Now when Joshua heard the sound of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is a sound of war in the camp.” 18 But he said, “It is not the sound of the cry of triumph, nor is it the sound of the cry of defeat; but the sound of singing I hear.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Read His Name is Yahweh.

This passage of Scripture is crucial.  If you read His Name is Yahweh, you will understand why.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
