November 10, 2015 SnyderTalk: What Do Palestinians Want?

1--Intro Covering Israel and ME

“For from the rising of the sun even to its setting, My Name will be great among the Gentiles, and in every place incense is going to be offered to My Name, and a grain offering that is pure; for My Name will be great among the Gentiles,” says Yahweh Sabaoth. (Malachi 1: 11)

Daniel Polisar—What Do Palestinians Want?:

The most recent wave of Palestinian terror attacks, now entering its second month, has been mainly the work of “lone wolf” operators running over Israeli civilians, soldiers, and policemen with cars or stabbing them with knives. The perpetrators, many in or just beyond their teenage years, are not, for the most part, activists in the leading militant organizations. They have been setting forth to find targets with the expectation, generally fulfilled, that after scoring a casualty or two they will be killed or badly wounded. What drives these young Palestinians, experts say, is a viral social-media campaign centered on claims that the Jews are endangering the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem and that Israel is executing Palestinian children.

Pundits and analysts in Israel and the West, struck by the elements that make this round of violence different from its predecessors over the past decade-and-a-half—which typically featured well-orchestrated shootings, suicide bombings, or rocket fire—have focused on the motivations of individual attackers, on how and why the Palestinian political and religious leadership has been engaging in incitement, and on what Israeli officials or American mediators might do to quell the violence.

Absent almost entirely from this discussion has been any attempt to understand the perspective of everyday Palestinians. Yet it is precisely the climate of public opinion that shapes and in turn is shaped by the declarations of Palestinian leaders, and that creates the atmosphere in which young people choose whether to wake up in the morning, pull a knife from the family kitchen, and go out in search of martyrdom. Whether commentators are ignoring the views of mainstream Palestinians out of a mistaken belief that public opinion does not matter in dictatorships, or out of a dismissive sense that they are powerless pawns whose fate is decided by their leaders, Israel, or regional and world powers, the omission is both patronizing and likely to lead to significant misunderstandings of what is happening. In this essay I aim to fill the lacuna by addressing what Palestinians think both about violence against Israelis and about the core issues that supply its context and justification.

SnyderTalk Comment: The answer to that question is too simple, so I will answer it with a pertinent question: what do Palestinians say they want?

Be they Hamas or Fatah, leaders or followers, they have all said the same thing.  All of them, every single one without exception, say that they want to annihilate Israel.  That’s the only thing that will make them happy.

They are shameless and full of something that has a foul odor so forget what they tell naïve Westerners.  They lie profusely when donors or potential donors are present, but they tell each other the truth openly in their media.

It makes me wish that Team Obama would read SnyderTalk or that they could read and comprehend.  That’s just wishful thinking.

If there were any room for doubt about Palestinian goals, I would have some sympathy for Western leaders who don’t understand Middle Eastern minds, but the evidence is crystal clear.  They have no excuse.  Thus, I must conclude that they are complicit.

Ynet NewsBad tidings await Netanyahu on US trip:

One of Netanyahu’s central goals for the trip was to strike an agreement on a new defense deal for Israel for the next decade, including compensation Israel was supposed to receive in light of the Iran deal.

The White House sources noted that the issue would not come up in the meeting between Netanyahu and Obama, and furthermore claimed that any compensation would not be increased as had been suggested in earlier reports.

“There is no justification for an increased compensation package, especially in light of the Federal budget cuts and the current battle in Congress over the ‘wastage’ of the US government,” a White House source said.

It was reported this week that Israel requested that the US raise its yearly security assistance sum from the current $3 billion to $5 billion. Israel’s first proposal was leaked to Reuters by an Israeli source.

According to the document, Israel had been pushing for the desired $5 billion yearly aid package to run for 10 years – amounting to a total sum of $50 billion. Obama is not expected to authorize this agreement, instead granting Israel a billion dollars less.

Boaz Ganor—Lone Wolf Terrorism and Social Media:

When senior Palestinian Authority officials joined the chorus accusing Israel of desecrating and “contaminating” the al-Aqsa Mosque, this mainstream voice was the catalyst that drove inflamed young people into the streets to randomly wound and kill Israelis. By any rational cost-benefit analysis, the initial wave of attacks seems to have failed. In most cases, the terrorist perpetrators were killed, wounded or captured, and the strategic damage they were able to inflict was limited. As a result, the Palestinian terrorist organizations led by Hamas published instructions on the Web on how the attackers could be more effective.

The social networks are used by many young terrorists as a platform to convey their political messages before leaving for their attacks. Without these messages, the terrorist acts might lose their meaning. Another aspect is the glorification bestowed by the social media on the terrorists. Each terrorist act becomes a model for emulation, sparking a vicious cycle that is fueling a terrorist epidemic.

Nevertheless, we need to be absolutely clear that the current wave of terror will only subside after the messages from the Palestinian leadership to the Palestinian public change.

Lt. Col. (ret.) Jonathan D. Halevi—How a Blood Libel Against Israel Is Born:

On the one hand, the Palestinian leadership glorifies the perpetrators of the stabbing attacks, encourages continued attempts to murder Jews, and boasts that thanks to the Palestinian “knife intifada” the Jews fear for their lives.

Yet, in the same breath, the Palestinian leadership claims that Israel is executing “innocent” Palestinians on the “false” charge that they are attempting such attacks and is even fabricating the scenes of the crimes.

SnyderTalk Comment: See “Israel Blasts Palestinians after Accusations of Organ-Harvesting”.

Yoaz Hendel—An Open Letter to the Professors Boycotting Israel:

You are calling for a stop to military aid and diplomatic support for Israel by the U.S. because your opinions on diplomacy weren’t accepted. You want a peace treaty in which settlements are evicted and a Palestinian state established, and there isn’t one – so you apparently need to boycott Israel until your demands are met. Be democratic, you say, accept our opinions as we’ve decided or you won’t exist.

Here’s a suggestion: Look up interviews with Ehud Barak, Ehud Olmert, and Tzipi Livni on Google. All three of them ran negotiations, all three believe in territorial compromise. All three wanted peace with the Palestinians at least as much as you do – and failed. Yes, in a theoretical world, Israelis and Palestinians would sit at the negotiation table. Compromise here, compromise there. The Palestinians would establish a democratic state next to the Jewish state. However, all that can only happen in theory.

This is a long-standing religious and national conflict. A conflict between societies – one free, the other not. The PLO was established in 1964 – three years before the “occupation” – in order to enact terrorism. Palestinian attacks on Zionist Jews who came here started long before that.

Michael Curtis—British academics and bigotry against Israel:

The United Kingdom has many attractions: Wimbledon, strawberries and cream, and political parties that talk to each other. What a pity that it also has far too many self-righteousness and holier-than-thou academics whose bigotry is as considerable as their lack of knowledge of Middle East realities.

The physical British fog, so familiar from the Sherlock Holmes stories, may have disappeared, but the mental fog prevails in the minds of some faculty members.

Shame on those 343 academic faculty members, to whom another 150 were added, who signed an advertisement in the British paper, The Guardian on October 27, 2015 pledging not to cooperate with Israeli academic institutions.

In a world in which hundreds of thousands of Middle East people are fleeing to European countries and when in one month of October 2015 ten Israelis were killed and more than 100 injured by stabbing by Palestinians, the original 343 opinionated individuals had a different priority. They were not concerned, let alone troubled, by the continuing violence and terrorism against Israeli civilians during that period.

Instead, they declared, in the language of zealots, that they were motivated by “deep concern for Palestinians…struggling to sustain some semblance of normal life in intractably difficult circumstances of occupation and denial of human rights.”

Michael Curtis—Rock, Rap, Hip Hop and All That U.S. Jazz Diplomacy

Arabs and their friends seem very fond of rocks. On July 3, 2000 Edward Said, the University Professor of English at Columbia University, illustrated that fondness when he, unaware his actions were being photographed, joined the familiar chorus of those shouting insults and throwing rocks at Israel at the Lebanese-Israeli border, 30 feet away.

Said, after being caught, explained his unscholarly behavior as a “symbolic act.” More honest and less symbolic than the University professor was the Facebook page of Fatah of November 2, 2015 that featured a masked Palestinian throwing a rock with a slingshot against Israelis. Two days later, a Palestinian cartoon appeared with the caption, “The rock is the best friend ever” of Palestinians.

Palestinians are still using rock in their effort to injure or kill Israeli civilians. But other Arabs and Muslims, if not devotees of rock music, are using another anti-traditional form of music, rap music and hip hop, for other purposes. Originating in black areas of New York, American hip-hop was originally viewed as a threat to Muslim countries and culture and was censured. Now hip-hop is present everywhere and easily available on the Internet.

Earlier during the period of the Cold War, jazz music had played a role in U.S. soft diplomacy. The U.S. was eager to overcome accusations, especially those promoted by the Soviet Union, of racism and segregation in the country. The State Department therefore sponsored a variety of U.S. cultural achievements emphasizing American positive achievements.

Amotz Asa-El—Erdogan and Turkey’s morning after:

He is back.

Having won yet another election while displaying yet more of the impulse, gamble and victory that have been his remarkable career’s hallmarks, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s supporters were dancing Sunday night like there was no tomorrow.

Alas, when the dust settles, the dancers will learn that despite their Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) political reprieve, there indeed is no tomorrow for the country that has been maneuvered into intractable foreign conflict and internal strife.

The outspoken Erdogan did not technically run in this poll, where Turkey elected its parliament. Politically, however, the vote was over the future of the social, cultural, and political revolution he has been leading since becoming prime minister in 2003, a position he held until becoming president last year.

The Islamists’ fourth straight general-election victory makes it plain that the revolution will continue, and in earnest, considering the AKP’s restoration of the majority it lost last spring when it won only 40 percent of the legislature.

Burak Bekdil—Turkey’s Stockholm Syndrome:

  • AKP supporters celebrated their victory on November 1 with chants of “Allahu Akbar” [“Allah is the greatest”], an Islamist slogan, indicating that for them the political race in Turkey is in fact a “religious war.”
  • The Turkish “Sultan wannabe” runs an empire of fear. The November 1 vote will only help make him even more despotic.
  • A recent study found that only a quarter of Turks were NOT afraid of Erdogan. According to the research, even some of his own supporters are afraid of him.
  • “The rapidly diminishing choice of media outlets and restrictions on freedom of expression in general impacted the process and remain serious concerns.” — Ignacio Sanchez Amor, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
  • The AKP’s setback in last June’s elections was because some nationalists disapproved of the AKP’s peace process with the Kurdish minority. In July, the government scrapped the peace process and ordered the military relentlessly to bomb the strongholds of militant Kurds in northern Iraq.

SnyderTalk Comment: Turkey is in the TRIC section of SnyderTalk for a reason.

Gideon Levy—Hillary Clinton Is No Friend of Israel:

Hillary Clinton’s election as U.S. president would ensure Israel’s continued decline and degeneration. And so she is not a friend, but an enemy. She must not be allowed to deceive and present herself as a friend of Israel, as she tried so ingratiatingly to do in an article published in The Forward (“How I would reaffirm unbreakable bond with Israel — and Benjamin Netanyahu”) last week. The tear ducts were targeted as she wrote of how she assisted Magen David Adom in being accepted to the International Red Cross. But she and those like her – false friends of Israel – have been one of the curses on this country for years. Because of them, Israel can continue to act as wildly as it likes, thumbing its nose at the world and paying no price. Because of them, it can destroy itself unhindered.

Whether Clinton believes what she wrote or simply wanted once again to sell her soul for a fistful of dollars from Haim Saban and other Jewish donors, the result is extremely embarrassing. A love letter to Israel, the likes of which no U.S. statesman would ever write to another country. Americans believe “Israel is more than a country – it’s a dream,” she states. Most of the world calls it a nightmare, yet Clinton says a dream. What dream exactly? The dream of tyrannical control over another people? Racism? Nationalism? The killing of women and children in Gaza?

Todd Wood—What American abdication in the Middle East will mean for US national security:

There are new sheriffs in town rockin the Casbah in the Middle East.  The new axis of Russia, Iran, Syria, and Hezbollah will radically change the balance of power in the region in ways the Soviet Union could only dream of.  Russian air power, along with Iranian and Hezbollah troops could prove to be an effective fighting force that could allow Moscow to shape the region and enjoy outsized influence for decades to come.  The question is, what does this new reality have in store for the national security of the United States?

The first answer to that question is that access to forty percent of the world’s oil supply could be denied to the U.S. and its allies in times of conflict.  With the American shale oil revolution, this reality is not as important as it used to be, say thirty years ago.  However, the loss of freedom of the seas and skies around the oil producing states in the Gulf could be significant.  We are nowhere near this scenario now of course; however, as Iran buys more and more sophisticated air defense systems from Russia and Putin deploys more and more air defense systems of his own to protect an expanding Russian presence, there definitely could be areas that would be denied entry by American aircraft save an all out assault.

Soeren Kern—Germany: Migration Crisis Becomes Public Health Crisis:

  • German hospitals are increasing security to protect doctors and nurses from violent attacks by migrants who are unhappy with the medical treatment they are receiving.
  • Critics are warning that German taxpayers will end up paying billions of euros to provide healthcare for a never-ending wave of asylum seekers. This is in addition to the billions of euros already being spent to provide newcomers with food, clothing and shelter.
  • In addition to the massive economic and social costs, as well as the burden of increased crime, including a rape epidemic, Germans are now facing the risk of being exposed to exotic diseases — and tuberculosis.
  • Roughly 5% of asylum seekers are carrying resistant germs. In real numbers, this works out to around 75,000 newcomers with highly infectious diseases. — Dr. Jan-Thorsten Gräsner, director of the Institute for Rescue and Emergency Medicine.
  • Twenty types of vaccines are now in short supply, and 16 others are no longer available at all. Because of production bottlenecks, some vaccines will not become available until 2017.
  • Muslim women refuse to be treated by male doctors, and many Muslim men refuse to be treated by females. — Max Kaplan, director of the Bavarian Medical Board.
  • German media outlets are downplaying the extent of the healthcare problem, apparently to avoid spreading fear or provoking anti-immigrant sentiments.

SnyderTalk Comment: Those who are surprised are clueless.  They probably don’t believe what they are reading/hearing/seeing because it doesn’t mesh with their worldview.

SnyderTalk Comment: Clinton and Obama are pandering politicians.  Blacks are worse off under Obama than they have been for many years.

What does “do more for blacks” mean to a Democrat?

It means more handouts.  The Democrat goal is to keep blacks on the Democrat plantation.  Those handouts will never lift up the African American community, but they sure can hold them down.

Several years ago, I read a study that concluded among other things that giving your children small amounts of money after they are old enough to take care of themselves will keep them from succeeding.  The researchers surmised that it takes very little to keep large numbers of people from working hard to get ahead.

The secret to success really isn’t a secret:

  • Show up for work.
  • Work hard.
  • Learn from your mistakes.

There are no shortcuts.

I read another study that concluded generational wealth transfers work like this:

  • The first generation to achieve success followed the advice I gave above.
  • Their children didn’t have to work. They spent what they were given and added nothing.
  • Their grandchildren got a very small inheritance but never learned to work.
  • Their great grandchildren were no better off than they were when they started.

As I said, the secret to success is no secret.

Overindulgent parents would do well to heed my advice/warning.  They are doing more harm than good.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
