October 1, 2015 SnyderTalk: Who Does the Pope Represent?

1--Intro Covering Israel and ME

“For from the rising of the sun even to its setting, My Name will be great among the Gentiles, and in every place incense is going to be offered to My Name, and a grain offering that is pure; for My Name will be great among the Gentiles,” says Yahweh Sabaoth. (Malachi 1: 11)

Who Does the Pope Represent?

Kelly McLaughlin and Ollie Gillman wrote an interesting article on the pope’s visit to the U.S.  In it, they said,

Pope Francis made a thinly-veiled swipe at Donald Trump as the Pontiff defended Latino immigrants who came to America at ‘great personal cost’ during a moving speech to 40,000 followers in Philadelphia.

Francis called on migrants from Mexico and the rest of the world to ‘not feel discouraged by all the challenges and hardships’ they face, saying they should never feel ashamed of their own traditions.

The Pope’s words come in direct contrast to Trump’s calls for a wall to be built along the Mexican border and for stricter controls on who can enter the US.

Speaking from the lectern used by President Abraham Lincoln when he delivered the Gettysburg Address, Francis directly addressed America’s Hispanic population, saying: ‘Thank you for opening the doors. Many of you have emigrated. I greet you with my heart.

‘Many of you came to this country at great personal cost, but in the hope of building a new life. Do not feel discouraged by all the challenges and hardships you might face. I ask you not to forget that, like those who came here before you, you bring many gifts to this new nation of yours.

‘Please: do not feel ever ashamed of your traditions.’

The pope’s messages made me think about the Messiah’s admonition:

“Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.” (Luke 6: 42)

The pope had huge audiences all over the U.S.  The mainstream media from here and abroad followed him around like he was a rock star.  They reported everything he said, but he failed to deliver the message that our nation and the world need to hear:

We have one Elohim.  His Name is Yahweh.  He is our Redeemer and Savior/Deliverer.  Faith in Him and Him alone is essential.  Faith in false gods leads to disaster.

Anything else is a distraction.

Each time the pope talked about climate change or immigration or Donald Trump, he missed an opportunity.  All of us have personal opinions.  The pope is no different.  He wasted his time telling us about his.

In addresses to Congress and the U.N., the pope talked about the right to life.  That’s important, but he failed to drive home the most important point.  Yahweh created us in His image.  No one has the right to murder an innocent human being at any stage of development because Yahweh said so.  It’s the 6th Commandment.

It’s crucial for people to know why abortion is wrong and why visiting prisoners is right and why welcoming strangers is the correct thing to do.  Yahweh is the reason.  It has nothing to do with the pope’s opinions or with anyone’s feelings.  Failing to mention Yahweh by Name was a terrible mistake.

How important is it?  This is what the Messiah said:

“And I say to you, everyone who confesses Me before men, the Son of Man will confess him also before the angels of God; but he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God.” (Luke 12: 8-9)

The pope is back home now.  The things that people will remember about his visit to the U.S. are climate change, immigration, and Donald Trump.  If he had done his job, Yahweh would have been front-and-center.  As it is, thanks to the pope, Yahweh won’t even get a footnote.

The pope’s opinions and good PR are not good substitutes for the message he should have delivered.

In June, Pope Francis signed a treaty that recognizes a Palestinian state.  What part of Promised Land does he not understand?  Someone should tell him why it’s called the Promised Land and what it means to stand in the way of Yahweh fulfilling His promises.  No one who represents Yahweh would do that.

So, who does the pope represent?  From where I sit, it doesn’t look like he represents Yahweh.  In fact, it looks to me as though he’s a politician running for a higher office.  I think he’s representing himself.

Francis is not the only recent pope to betray Yahweh.  In 2008, the Vatican under Pope Benedict XVI decided that Catholics could no longer use the Name Yahweh during worship:

The Vatican has reiterated a directive that the name of God revealed in the tetragrammaton YHWH is not to be pronounced in Catholic liturgy or in music. Catholics at worship should neither sing nor pronounce the name of God as “Yahweh,” the Vatican has said, citing the authority of Jewish and Christian practice.

The instruction came in a June 29 letter to Catholic bishops conferences around the world from the Vatican’s top liturgical body, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments, by an explicit “directive” of Pope Benedict XVI.

[…]

But such pronunciation violates long-standing Jewish tradition, the Vatican reminded bishops.

There are roughly 1.2 billion Catholics in the world today.  All of them need to hear about Yahweh by Name.

Yahweh’s enemies aren’t shy about declaring the name of their god.  What does it suggest when the pope forbids Catholics from even mentioning Yahweh’s Name in church?

Trying to avoid offending people is not a good justification for betraying our Creator.  He commanded us to tell the world about Him by Name.  The pope has no authority repeal Yahweh’s decrees.

The Catholic Church is on the decline throughout the world for many reasons.  One of them is that the man at the top doesn’t understand his job.  That’s the kindest thing I can say.  At this point, that’s all I will say.

See “Pew survey: Percentage of US Catholics drops and Catholicism is losing members faster than any denomination”.

The problem is even worse in Europe.  Who is to blame?

It starts with the pope.

On the bright side, maybe people are leaving the Catholic Church because the Catholic Church has abandoned Yahweh.

Catholic popes have a long and sordid history of meddling and much worse.  For instance, following WWII, the Vatican helped Nazi butchers flee Europe to avoid prosecution.  Over the centuries, they have done many more things that are incredibly stupid and evil.

See “Pope says 9/11 caused by ‘inability to find solutions which respect the common good’”.

That’s Pope Francis talking.  It’s ridiculous.

Politicians dissemble and lie to attract followers.  What is Pope Francis trying to accomplish?

Again, I ask: who does the pope represent?

Susan Warner—Is the Pope Ending Catholic Anti-Semitism?

A lot of water as passed under the bridge between Catholics and Jews in the past 1800 years or so. Most of it has been polluted by the evils of anti-Semitism perpetrated by the Catholic Church against the Jews of Europe, starting with the earliest published Christian writings by the early ante-Nicene Church Fathers, such as Tertullian. His document “Judeos Adversos” has stood for centuries as one of the key church position papers against the Jews.

During those seemingly endless centuries, the Catholic Church continuously demonized the Jews, stripped them of their livelihoods, and frequently their lives.

In the Catholic mindset, the Covenant that God made with the Jews had been replaced by the Church as God’s new “chosen people.” God no longer had any use for the Jews, and the Church vowed never to let them forget it.

Then in 1965, under the leadership of Pope Paul VI, the document “Nostre Aetate” was presented to the world as part of an overhaul of the Catholic Church known as the Second Vatican Council, or more popularly, Vatican II. “Nostre Aetate” was one of the most significant documents to emerge from the period. Designed to heal the relationship between the Catholics and the Jews, it was to be a total reset of the Catholic-Jewish relationship — at least on paper.

“Nostra Aetate, the 1965 Declaration on the Church’s Relationship to Non-Christian Religions was one of the most influential and celebrated documents issued by the Second Vatican Council, a gathering of the world’s Catholic bishops. In particular it made possible a new and positive relationship between Jews and Catholics.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Too few Christians understand what replacement theology means, and fewer still know where it came from.  It’s rooted in the Catholic Church; it’s dead wrong; and it has to go.

Will Pope Francis move away from it?  What does his recognition of a Palestinian state tell us?

Adam Taylor—Why you should care about how Hitler decorated his homes:

Adolf Hitler is a man who is, quite rightly, infamous for many things. Tasteful decorating choices are not one of them.

However, on Aug. 20, 1939 – just 12 days before the start of World War II – the New York Times magazine wrote a lengthy profile of the Nazi leader’s life at his mountain estate. The article noted that the Bavarian home, known as Berghof, was furnished with “unobtrusive elegance” – with “unstained sanded wainscoting” and a “patternless carpet of hand-woven rugs.”

This wasn’t a one off. Perhaps what’s more remarkable is that it wasn’t just the New York Times  writing about the stylishness of the fascist leader’s abodes. A number of American and British publications were – including The Washington Post. On Jan. 2, 1941, Preston Grover wrote a story for The Post describing Hitler’s various wartime homes and paying particular attention to the German fuhrer’s apparent love of good silverware.

What explains this odd fixation with Hitler’s home decor? That’s one of the questions that Despina Stratigakos, a historian at the University at Buffalo, set out to answer in her new book “Hitler at Home.” In this recently published book, Stratigakos studies the intersection between architecture and power: Her work examines not only how the Nazi leader decorated his residences, but how these residences were used to change public perception of Hitler’s private life.

Michael Curtis—End Antisemitism in Football:

Antisemitism is a foul disease seemingly incurable, whose virus makes those infected lack any moral sensibility or civilized behavior. Hatred of Jews, the most global form of intolerance, has now been spreading in the turf of English Football.

Violence and expressions of racism on the part of spectators at football games in Britain has been common since the late 1970s. Strong passions by fans expressing tribal loyalties is to be expected, but the upsurge of antisemitic demonstrations, many by British neo-Nazis, insufferable, prejudiced, and would be Islamic jihadists in recent years has been warped by vehement hatred and envy.

Jews have contributed in considerable fashion to football in Britain, particularly in London, as an exhibition “Four, Four Jew,’’ a title based on a football tactical formation, showed when on display at the London Jewish Museum in October 2013. Though few Jews play in professional teams, Jews are to be found in club organizational and executive activities.

The organization Kick it Out, formed in 1993 to tackle racism in football, has reported on the increasing number of anti-Semitic incidents among soccer spectators and the messages published on Twitter in 2015. Unfortunately, the disease also spread to some players. The most well known incident was that of the French player Nicolas Anelka who, in December 2013 after scoring a goal for his team West Bromwich, used the infamous “quenelle” antisemitic gesture (see photo above). This was the gesture, evoking neo-Nazi salutes, that had been invented by the French comedian Dieudonne who had been punished in France for his unrelenting antisemitic utterances.

Paul Gregory—Putin’s new world order:

The president of Russia uses a Putin-speak in his speeches that we must parse word for word, in our own best interests. Only after translating them into normal speech do we learn what he has said and why. His speech Monday to the United Nations General Assembly made seven overlapping and interdependent points that are worth translating.

Unlike Barack Obama’s passionate address, Putin delivered his remarks in the measured and moderate tones of a world statesman. They were still words of warning: Join us in a broad coalition and leave nondemocratic regimes alone, or catastrophe will strike.

Following are the major points that Putin wished his audience to take back to their respective countries:

First, the United States and its Western allies are responsible for the sad state of world affairs owing to their foolhardy interventions on behalf of democratic revolutions. Democratic revolutions are the dreams of those who have unrealistic views of the world. The USSR learned that it could not export socialist revolution; the West must learn that it cannot export democratic revolution.

Bassam Tawil—Migration Crisis: “Islam Will Conquer Europe Without Firing a Shot”

With the recent anniversary of Al-Qaeda’s September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States, internal Palestinian discourse revolves around radical Islam and America’s actions. It relates to the slaughter, rape and millions of refugees who have fallen victim to Al-Qaeda, the humanitarian calamity and the Islamist terrorist organizations to which it gave birth, such as ISIS. Today a disaster of apocalyptic proportions is unfolding in territories that used to be Arab states but are now the battle grounds for feuding Arab tribes, whose only objective is to destroy one another.

In their heart of hearts, the Arabs living in Israel and the Palestinian Authority territories know, although it is a bitter pill to swallow, that we have been favored by fortune because under the State of Israel we live in security. This reality is brought home to us by the feeble international response and the strange behavior of U.S. President Barack Obama and the leaders of the Western world who have abandoned the Arabs to the atrocities of the Sunni Islamists (and their supporters in Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar), and to the murderous proxies of the Iranian Islamic Revolution (mainly in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon).

In view of what is happening in neighboring countries, it is clear to us what will happen if Israel is in danger of destruction: no Western state will come to its aid and no Arab state will come to our aid. Our fate will be the same as that of our brothers beyond Israel’s borders. It is hard not to identify and sympathize with Israel’s efforts to fight terrorism and with its objections to the nuclear agreement with Iran.

Zalman Shoval—When will Europe wake up?:

In a battle near the city of Tours in 732 C.E., Charles Martel defeated the Muslim invaders who had crossed the Pyrenees and were pushing toward the heart of France. In 1683, forces of Poland’s King Jan III Sobieski checked the Ottoman army at the gates of Vienna. If not for these events, Europe today would be under Arab-Muslim control. These two battles saved the deteriorating Western world, and we recall them today in light of the waves of Muslim migrants making their way to the continent.

Creeping Islamization in western Europe is in part the price nations like Britain, France, the Netherlands and Spain are paying for their colonialist pasts, but also the result of the Schengen Agreement that opened the borders between European Union member nations, as well as the liberal policy on immigration. Unlike Israel, Europe cannot surround itself with a fence that will stop the influx. The wave of migrants, most of them from Muslim countries, who have been arriving in Europe these past few months adds a new dimension to the nightmare of Islamization encroaching on the continent. In a historic irony, a reverse colonization is taking place today: Residents of eastern countries that the West used to rule and wanted to impose its culture upon are coming to the West and bringing with them a religion and culture that is hostile to Western democratic values. At the onset, we’ll still hear in Europe — especially western Europe — a bunch of humanitarian statements, but in a short while the wheels will grind to a halt and more and more voices will be demanding an end to the incoming stream of migrants from the Middle East and Africa.

SnyderTalk Comment: I’m beginning to think that Europe may never wake up, or if they wake up, it may be too late.

Raymond Ibrahim—Lies about Islamic Taqiyya (Dissimulation)—Dr. Carson Right: Washington Post and Academics Wrong

Dr. Ben Carson’s recent assertion that the Islamic doctrine of taqiyya encourages Muslims “to lie to achieve your goals” has prompted the Washington Post‘s Glenn Kessler to quote a number of academics to show that the presidential candidate got it wrong:

The word “taqiyya” derives from the Arabic words for “piety” and “fear of God” and indicates when a person is in a state of caution, said Khaled Abou El Fadl, a professor of law at the University of California at Los Angeles and a leading authority on Islam.

[…]

“Yes, it is permissible to hide the fact you are Muslim” if a person is under threat, “as long as it does not involve hurting another person,” Abou El Fadl said.

The other academics whom Kessler quotes — including Omid Safi, director of the Duke University Islamic Studies Center, and Noah Feldman of Harvard Law School — make the same argument: yes, taqiyya is in the Koran but it only permits deception in the case of self-preservation, nothing more.

Not exactly.

Erez Linn, News Agencies and Israel Hayom Staff—Iranian president: Israel is the root of terrorism:

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called Israel the root cause of terrorism worldwide, and particularly in the Middle East, in his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Monday.

Pointing fingers at Israel and the United States, he said, “We must not forget that the roots of today’s wars, destruction and terror, can be found in the occupation, invasion and military intervention of yesterday.

“If we did not have the U.S. military invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq, and the U.S.’s unwarranted support for the inhumane actions of the Zionist regime against the oppressed nation of Palestine, today the terrorists would not have an excuse for the justification of their crimes.”

Going on to praise the nuclear deal signed between Iran and six world powers, Rouhani said, “The deal is a brilliant example of victory over war that has managed to disperse the clouds of hostility and perhaps even the specter of another war and extensive tensions from the Middle East.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Rouhani has been consistent all along.  From his point of view, Israel is the cause of all the world’s problems.

Rouhani has been preaching that message since he took office.  So have Ayatollah Khamenei and former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.  Is it any wonder that Islamists target Israel?

Israel has every reason to believe that Iran really means it when her leaders say that their goal is to “wipe Israel off the map”.  Given what we know, refusing to accept that reality is idiotic.

That’s one of my problems with Obama.  The Iran deal that he negotiated assumes that Iranian leaders are benevolent despots.  That is far from the truth.

Michael Brendan Dougherty—Vladimir Putin is now leading the fight against ISIS:

The strategic divide between Russia and the United States when it comes to Islamic terrorism and the Middle East has been on stark display this week. But the truth is that it has been there ever since the Sept. 11 attacks, showing the remarkable consistency of the Russian position.

Two years ago, Vladimir Putin piped up to defend Bashar al-Assad just as the wrath of the U.S. was at its peak. He did so in an editorial in The New York Times. Joining the vast majority of the American public, Putin argued against direct U.S. intervention in Syria’s civil war. As American hawks talked up the possibility of “moderate rebels” ruling from Damascus, Putin offered a prescient caution:

Syria is not witnessing a battle for democracy, but an armed conflict between government and opposition in a multireligious country. There are few champions of democracy in Syria. But there are more than enough Qaeda fighters and extremists of all stripes battling the government. The United States State Department has designated Al Nusra Front and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, fighting with the opposition, as terrorist organizations.

Edith Lederer and John Daniszewski—Egyptian President Sisi Calls to Expand Peace with Israel to Include More Arab Countries:

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi said in an interview that the Mideast region needs to cooperate to defeat a worsening terrorist threat that has led to a “ferocious war” in Egypt and created the danger of some countries “sliding into failure.”

In a wide-ranging interview with The Associated Press Saturday night, el-Sissi also said that Syria should not be divided after its civil war, that the Egyptian military needs to be “augmented” to defeat terrorists fighting in the Sinai and Western Desert, and that efforts should be renewed to solve the Palestinian issue and expand Egypt’s nearly 40-year-peace with Israel to include more Arab countries.

Resolving the Palestinian question, he said, could “change the face of the region and … bring about enormous improvement to the situation. … I’m optimistic by nature and I say that there is a great opportunity.”

SnyderTalk Comment: That’s a positive suggestion.  Let’s see where it goes.

MEMRI—The Islamic State’s Frantic Response to the Wave of Refugees Fleeing Syria:

In response to the migration to Europe of hundreds of thousands of people from Syria and other Middle Eastern countries, the Islamic State has launched a large-scale media campaign urging Muslims not to seek refuge in the West but rather to come to the territories under its control. ISIS sees the Syrian wave of migration to Europe as an acute challenge. It undermines ISIS propaganda that promotes ISIS as a burgeoning state to which Muslims are flocking. Life in the Islamic State, they say, may perhaps be dangerous, but it promises glory and honor through waging jihad.

Celine Lussato—Hamas v. ISIS: An Islamist Civil War Simmers in Gaza:

On the concrete walls of a building in the Sheikh Radwan district of Gaza City, the graffiti features messages glorifying ISIS (Islamic State) and condemning the Hamas internal security forces. Younes Hanar, 27, once a fighter in Hamas’ Al-Qassam brigades, was killed there on June 2, accused of having joined the forces of ISIS. Here and there, one can see the handprints of Hanar’s relatives, dipped in his blood. Hamas does not trifle with those suspected of associating with ISIS, especially when they come from its own ranks. Hamas has been hunting down Salafist jihadists without mercy for the past few months across Gaza.

In the family apartment, where his wife Alaa offers us a tour, the black flag of ISIS is everywhere: painted on one of the walls, on a sticker on a bedroom door, even a magnet on the fridge. When Hamas rose to power in Gaza, buoyed by its religious discourse, it claimed to defend individual rights and justice in the face of the corrupt Palestinian leaders of Fatah. Today, it is the the ISIS jihadists who accuse Hamas of corruption and taking a moderate stance towards Israel.

Journalist Hasan Jaber noted, “There are strong sympathies for thejihadist movement within the party in power itself. Is Younes Hanar’s very own mother not herself a Hamas militant? They raised a lion cub in their house. But he grew up and he won’t hesitate to devour them if he has a chance.”

Pamela Engel—ISIS Has a Cash-Flow Problem:

A widening income gap between ISIS fighters and average civilians is breeding resentment among those under ISIS control, Newsweekreports. Some of the cash crunch comes from falling oil prices and airstrikes targeting oil facilities.

About 8 million people live in ISIS’ caliphate, but a brain drain is also hobbling the ISIS economy. Moreover, with so many people fleeing, there are fewer people for ISIS to tax. Part of ISIS’ revenue loss stems from the Iraqi government’s decision to stop paying the salaries of government employees working in ISIS-controlled areas. ISIS made hundreds of millions of dollars by imposing taxes of up to 50% on those government salaries.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Exodus 24

12 Now Yahweh said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and remain there, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commandment which I have written for their instruction.” 13 So Moses arose with Joshua his servant, and Moses went up to the mountain of God. 14 But to the elders he said, “Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever has a legal matter, let him approach them.” 15 Then Moses went up to the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. 16 The glory of Yahweh rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; and on the seventh day He called to Moses from the midst of the cloud. 17 And to the eyes of the sons of Israel the appearance of the glory of Yahweh was like a consuming fire on the mountain top. 18 Moses entered the midst of the cloud as he went up to the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
