Trita Parsi—Nuclear Deal or Not, Dark Years Await the Middle East:

The regional impact of the world powers and Iran making a deal over Tehran’s nuclear program will be significant to say the least. It will mark a new era in the Middle East; one in which the US and Iran no longer will seek to undermine each other at every given opportunity. In this era of truce, the US and Iran can dialogue about regional problems rather than seeing the absence of diplomacy exacerbate existing conflicts. Yet, in spite of this pending historic achievement, dark years await the Middle East.

It all goes back to the disastrous decision by George W. Bush to invade Iraq. The repercussions of the Iraq war will be felt more strongly in the region in the next 10 years than it was in the 10 years immediately following the war. The reason in a nutshell is as follows: The invasion of Iraq weakened the United States to the point that the American-led order in the region began to collapse. The instability we are currently seeing in the Middle East is partly driven by the process of finding a new equilibrium; and that process is almost without exception bloody. It’s the storm before the calm, so to say.

But this is no ordinary storm because the Iraq war didn’t just destroy the regional order, it began destroying the very state structure that any order must be built on. At the end of the day, the Bush administration didn’t just change the regime in Iraq, it destroyed the Iraqi state as a whole. Combined with the deep societal problems many Arab countries suffered from — largely as a result of their unfree political systems and the security pact Arab regimes had struck with Washington in which a premium was put on short term stability rather than longer term political liberalization — this unleashed forces that spread chaos and turned several authoritarian states in the region into failed states.

SnyderTalk Comment: Parsi hit the nail on the head.   The Iran problem is far from over no matter what happens with the Iran nuclear deal.

I don’t agree with much of what Parsi said, but I will give him credit for seeing through what appears to be a murky issue to some.

Get ready for some rough sailing ahead.  From where I sit, it looks as though a perfect storm is brewing.  When it hits, there will be hell to pay and little or no time to prepare.

People who don’t know Yahweh are in for a rough ride.  The truth is what it is.  Our believing it doesn’t make it the truth.  It would still be the truth even if no-one believed it.

It’s like Yahweh’s existence.  Our believing that Yahweh exists or not believing that He exists has nothing to do with His existence, but believing He exists, having faith in Him, and obeying Him have everything to do with our salvation/deliverance.

SnyderTalk Comment: I just wish he had declared the Name “Yahweh”.

Yeshua Ha-Mashiach is Yahweh.  The prohibition against speaking the Name must be ignored because Yahweh Himself commanded us to declare His Name to the world.

Imagine what might have happened if Moses had refrained from declaring Yahweh’s Name to pharaoh.

Fred Maroun: For the Love of Israel—Many of us Arabs deny Jewish history, while the more charitable among us concede that Jews have their own narrative and we have ours. But history is factual and verifiable, and “narrative” is just a polite word for “myth.” The fact that so many Palestinians live in camps and remain stateless and vulnerable is a huge tragedy, but we created the Palestinian tragedy by trying to deny the rights of Jews. Being Lebanese, I am particularly ashamed of Lebanon’s role in the conflict. We allowed the PLO and then Hizbullah to attack Israel and terrorize and kill its citizens. Then we had the audacity to claim victimhood when Israel’s citizens ran out of patience and responded with force. The deplorable way that we treat Palestinian refugees living in Lebanon only adds to my shame. Our latest big lie is that Israel is stealing our land in the West Bank. The reality is that the West Bank is Judea and Samaria for the Jews, and they build on that land because they love the Land of Israel.

Reuters: Europe and US keep watchful eye on Israel’s legislative plans—Benjamin Netanyahu’s formation of one of the most right-wing government in Israel’s history has fuelled concerns in Europe and the United States about further settlement building and dimming prospects for peace. But it also has diplomats on edge about wider policy proposals, particularly on social and judicial affairs, where the far-right Bayit Yehudi party, an influential member of Netanyahu’s coalition, is determined to leave its mark. Ultra nationalist Bayit Yehudi, led by former technology entrepreneur Naftali Bennett, has secured two important cabinet portfolios: the education and diaspora ministry for Bennett and the justice ministry for his number two, Ayelet Shaked.

Wall Street Journal Editorial: Judges Shocked by IRS Conduct Against Pro-Israel Group—On Monday, a three-judge panel of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals eviscerated the IRS and Justice Department during oral argument in a case alleging the agency delayed the tax-exempt application of a pro-Israel group due to its policy views. In December 2009, “Z Street” applied for 501(c)(3) status to pursue its pro-Israel educational mission. In July 2010, when the group called to check on what was taking so long with its application, an IRS agent said that auditors had been instructed to give special attention to groups connected with Israel. Z Street sued the IRS for viewpoint discrimination. Chief Judge Merrick Garland told government lawyer Teresa McLaughlin: “Imagine the IRS announces today a policy that says as follows: No application by a Jewish group or an African-American group will be considered until one day short of the period under the statute….Is it your view that that cannot be challenged?” “If I were you, I would go back and ask your superiors whether they want us to represent that the government’s position in this case is that the government is free to unconstitutionally discriminate against its citizens for 270 days.”

Shira Sorko-Ram and Moaz Israel: Six Nation Treaty With Iran: What Does it Really Mean?—President Barack Obama has informed the American people that the Iran nuclear agreement he is hoping to conclude with Iran is a once-in-a- lifetime opportunity. “So this may not be optimal,” he conceded. “In a perfect world, Iran would say, ‘We won’t have any nuclear infrastructure at all,’ but what we know is that this has become a matter of pride and nationalism for Iran.” “It is a good deal even if Iran doesn’t change at all,” Obama contended. “In fact, you could argue that if [the Iranians] are implacably opposed to us, all the more reason for us to want to have a deal in which we know what they’re doing…” Obama concluded that at least for ten years “even if they wanted to cheat, we would have at least a year, which is about three times longer than we’d have right now….” Wait a minute! What did Obama say? Three divided into 12 months equals a maximum of four months before Iran could finish building a nuclear bomb! In fact, four months is not the most ac- curate number. According to John Kerry’s official fact sheet on the negotiations, U.S. intelligence estimates Iran’s breakout time to produce its first bomb is currently two to three months!

N. Mozes: Syria’s Transformation into an Iranian Base—Iran’s support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, in addition to economic aid, arms, and advice, includes combat forces from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), from Hizbullah in Lebanon, and from Iraqi, Afghan and Pakistani Shi’ite militias that are loyal to Iran. Initially, these organizations focused on defending Shi’ite holy sites in Syria, but over time the fighting expanded to the most difficult anti-opposition fronts. According to the Syrian opposition, thousands of fighters trained by the IRGC have arrived in Syria on four daily flights from Iran to Latakia. Iran also has begun to organize and oversee Syrian forces fighting alongside the regime, such as Syrian Hizbullah, Liwa al-Quds, the National Religious Resistance-Jaish al-Imam al-Mahdi, the National Resistance in Houran (HAMO), and Liwa al-Ridda al-Shi’i. Some of the Iran-operated Syrian “popular resistance groups,” such as Syrian Hizbullah, stress that their aim is to operate against Israel, not only against the Syrian opposition.

Alexis Xydias and Sara Miller Llana: UK vote: A lackluster election that could transform a nation—When Niall Brady casts his vote today in the British general election, he has his job on his mind, and his baby. As daycare costs loom, the contracts he relies on as an information technology worker have gotten harder to secure. “There is nothing historical about this election,” says Mr. Brady, a straightforward man in his 40s who hails from Northern Ireland and lives in the London neighborhood of Twickenham. But in fact, if the majority of Brits, like Brady, are voting on  bread-and-butter issues like the economy, healthcare, and immigration, the 2015 general election may indeed prove pivotal – no matter which way the voting goes.

BBC: World media fear UK EU exit, looser US ties—A day after the surprise result in the UK elections, world media outlets have been taking a look at the ramifications. European papers are concerned about the effect on the EU in the light of Prime Minister David Cameron’s promise to hold a referendum on leaving. And there is speculation that the Scottish nationalists’ spectacular gains may herald the break-up of the United Kingdom. A US daily fears the result may be the harbinger of the end of the US-UK “special relationship”, but one Spanish daily is enthralled by a photo of Mr Cameron using cutlery to eat a hot dog.

SnyderTalk Comment: Those who think they have all the answers don’t even have all the questions.

See “A disunited kingdom: Cameron is up against Scottish nationalism, English anti-Europeanism”.

Larry Elder: The Intersection of the Grievance Culture and the Welfare State—After the mysterious death of suspect Freddie Gray, the Maryland state’s attorney for Baltimore charged all six Baltimore police officers involved with his arrest and transport. The crimes ranging from “second-degree depraved-heart murder” to involuntary manslaughter, assault, misconduct in office and false imprisonment. Locals cheered her decision to charge all six. The charges followed three days of riots triggered by Gray’s funeral and came almost immediately after the medical examiner filed his report calling Gray’s death a “homicide.” Now for the hard part. Not only will the charges be difficult to prove but three of those charged are black. The claim of illegal “racial profiling” argues that white racist officers possess an unwarranted fear of young black men. But what happens to that analysis when the accused officers are black? If black cops are just as likely to engage in race-based misconduct, why did Ferguson demonstrators demand a “diverse” police force?

SnyderTalk Comment: Obama has unleashed forces all over the world that he can’t control.  The U.S. is suffering, too.  By trying to make every issue a racial issue, he has aided and abetted felons who are pretending to be innocent people suffering police brutality because of their race.

I am not privy to details of the Freddie Gray case that have not been shared in the media, so I won’t pretend to know all the facts.  But I know this: Gray’s case is one of many that have occurred in the U.S. over the past several years that bear striking resemblances.

That’s not a rush to judgment.  It’s a fact.

Police brutality happens; it’s wrong; and it can’t be condoned.  That said, by trying to make felons and habitual violators of the law into heroes, Obama has made a mockery of justice and weakened the arguments of those who experience real police brutality.  Nobody wins and everybody loses.

And now this “US Justice Department launches civil rights probe of Baltimore policing”.  I have no problem with investigating policing practices, but the DOJ should launch an internal investigation to find out how they have contributed to our predicament.

At the risk of sounding like an alarmist, don’t think for one moment that this is over.  Once you let the genie out of the bottle, getting him back in isn’t easy.

This problem will have to run its course.  This is my advice: if you don’t have guns and ammo, don’t wait until it’s too late before you take this problem seriously.

That’s not a racial statement, and I don’t want to suggest that this is a black vs. white issue.  It’s not.

This is law-abiding citizens vs. criminals.  Criminals come from every segment of society, and Obama has unleashed them all.

Ibrahim Hewitt: Cameron back in No 10 looks like bad news for Middle East peace—The closest fought UK General Election for many years has produced an unexpected victory for David Cameron and the Conservative Party. With predictions of a hung parliament built around Westminster fears of a tartan invasion by Scottish National Party MPs, the result of a clearly failing first-past-the-post electoral system is likely to fuel calls for electoral reform. Millions of votes for minority parties were, to all intents and purposes, wasted. This, though, is not the only negative aspect of the poll. It is bad news all round for peace in the Middle East, and the first to feel the effects will be Britain’s 2-million Muslim citizens. Far from his post-poll claim to want to “govern for all of the UK” – a clear reference to the SNP triumph north of the border – David Cameron’s record in office suggests that the next term of Tory-led government will be possibly the most divisive ever. Cuts to public services and tax breaks for the wealthiest sections of society have hit the majority of Britons badly; threats to the Human Rights Act suggest that those in the greatest of need will not get the help they deserve. His is not One-Nation Conservatism by any means and if a week is a long time in politics, at this moment the next five years seems like eternity.

SnyderTalk Comment: This one blows my mind.  When someone with a modicum of sense is elected in any country, the media goes berserk.  They say that it’s “bad news for peace” in the Middle East.

We already know what we get when we adopt their approach.  Those who don’t know have serious problems.

William A. Jacobson: Brainwashed at Bowdoin: Anti-Israel Boycotters Miss a Teachable Moment—Bowdoin College in Maine recently held a student-body referendum for a full academic and cultural boycott of Israel. Unlike more common student-government resolutions seeking “divestment” from a handful of companies, the Bowdoin referendum sought an unprecedented cutoff of all academic and cultural ties. The referendum was initiated by Bowdoin Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), part of a growing national SJP movement on campuses. I have covered SJP antics at Vassar (the picketing of a classroom because a course involved a trip to Israel, and later posting of a Nazi cartoon), Cornell (a protest leads to physical and verbal harassment of pro-Israel students — and me!), Northeastern University (a protest over suspension included chants of “Long live the intifada,” the bloody suicide-bombing and terrorist campaign), and New York University (the posting of mock eviction notices), and elsewhere.

BBC: Copenhagen buses burned in ‘anti-Israel attack’— Four Danish buses were destroyed in a suspected arson attack that police believe may have a political motive. The buses were found on fire in the early hours of Friday morning in Copenhagen. Another was found covered in anti-Israeli graffiti. Last week, the city’s transit authority ordered the removal of advertisements by a pro-Palestinian group calling for a boycott of Israeli goods. The group behind the adverts condemned the fire, calling it “a criminal act”. Jens Moeller Jensen, a spokesman for Copenhagen’s police force, told the Associated Press: “There could be a political motive. We consider this one theory. But we cannot link it to anything for now.” The advertisements were paid for by the Danish-Palestinian Friendship Association. It says it works “to influence the Danish public and the Danish authorities to do more for the Palestinians’ right to self-determination.”

Matthew Duss: Remember Gaza?— Two weeks ago saw the latest blow to the on-again-but-mostly-off-again reconciliation between the two leading Palestinian political factions, Hamas and Fatah. A Fatah delegation from the West Bank entered Gaza for what was planned as a weeklong visit to address the sticky issue of payment to some 40,000 Hamas government employees, which was one of the main drivers of Hamas’ decision to accept a reconciliation agreement in April 2014, largely on Fatah’s terms. Instead, the Fatah delegation stayed only one day, departing after claiming that Hamas had prohibited it from traveling from their beachfront hotel to their offices. Hamas, for its part, responded that the makeup of the delegation had not been appropriately cleared in advance.

Uzay Bulut: The Difference Between Islam and Islamism?— Although there is a more or less “secular” constitution in Turkey, the anti-Semitic and anti-non-Muslim culture seems to have more influence over people even than laws. There also does not seem to be any interest or pluralistic mentality in enforcing non-Islamic laws. A cemetery in Milas, for example, leads one [to] question the thin, fragile line between Islam and Islamism — or between progressive Islam and radical Islam. Milas, whose name comes from ancient Greek “Mylasa,” is a nice town in Anatolia, where there was once a powerful Jewish community. After years of neglect and disrepair, the Jewish cemetery in Milas has been turned into a place where sheep graze and garbage is thrown. The historic gravestones, which should have been protected as a cultural heritage, have long since been broken into pieces. Not only is the town now free of Jews, but now even the Jewish cemetery has been left to its fate.

Michael Birnbaum: On a day of World War II remembrance, Putin warns that conflict could come again—Russia’s vast celebrations Saturday to mark the 70th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany had nearly everything: 16,000 goose-stepping soldiers, medal-bedecked veterans and families carrying photographs of those who died long ago. But one group was conspicuously absent from the memorial of the Soviet Union’s joint victory with West: the leaders of those wartime allied nations. A year into a conflict in Ukraine that the West says is fueled by the Kremlin, the tribunes in Red Square on Saturday were stocked with officials from nations that had little to do with the Soviet Union’s painful wartime sacrifices. Even some Kremlin critics said they were disappointed by the snub. A decade ago, President George W. Bush sat next to Russian President Vladimir Putin on stands in front of Lenin’s Tomb to observe the 60th anniversary. A decade before that, President Bill Clinton also came to Moscow in an emotional post-Cold War visit. But on Saturday, the most prominent visitor’s seat went to Chinese President Xi Jinping, with whom Putin has tried to build bridges as relations with the West have soured because of the war in Ukraine. US strongly opposes Israel’s ‘damaging’ east Jerusalem housing announcement

SnyderTalk Comment: Damaging?  Hardly.  Obama doesn’t approve.  That’s the issue.  He’s the wrong man for the job.

There is no doubt about where Yahweh stands on this issue.  That land belongs to the descendants of Abraham through Isaac and Jacob/Israel.

Obama isn’t in Yahweh’s camp.  That’s the problem in a nutshell.

Erdogan plays religion card in tight Turkey polls

SnyderTalk Comment: “In an unprecedented gesture by a Turkish politician in recent times, Erdogan waved a copy of the Muslim holy book the Koran translated into Kurdish during a rally this week in the Kurdish-majority southeast. ‘Turkey has never seen a president who leads an election campaign with a copy of the Koran in his hand,’ Professor Ilter Turan of Istanbul’s Bilgi University, told AFP.”

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Exodus 9

18 “Behold, about this time tomorrow, I will send a very heavy hail, such as has not been seen in Egypt from the day it was founded until now. 19 Now therefore send, bring your livestock and whatever you have in the field to safety. Every man and beast that is found in the field and is not brought home, when the hail comes down on them, will die.” 20 The one among the servants of Pharaoh who feared the word of Yahweh made his servants and his livestock flee into the houses; 21 but he who paid no regard to the word of Yahweh left his servants and his livestock in the field.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
