Mortimer B. Zuckerman—Obama’s Iran Nuclear Deal Is an Unforgivable Betrayal of Israel:

Never! Never would Iran be allowed to have a nuclear weapon. That was the pledge of the Clinton and Bush administrations. Not only that. “Never” was the purpose of 191 nations in agreeing to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. It came into force in 1970 to save the planet from destroying itself and all human life. Hence the near universal agreement, a unique adherence for an arms control measure.

But the story since then is maddening and ominous. One of the parties to the treaty was Iran, and Iran has been in almost continuous noncompliance with the treaty it agreed to.

Flash forward to the Obama administration. Now the president is no longer trying to stop Iran from going nuclear. “Never” has been slimmed down to 13 years – at best! The Iranians have secured enough nuclear fuel to make the first generation bomb small enough to be dropped from a transport plane. The former International Atomic Energy Agency inspector, Olli Heinonen, reckons the proposed agreement from the Lausanne talks leaves Iran “a threshold breakout nuclear state for the next 10 years.” But we may have only the mirage of an agreement since Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his associates are producing tons of ambiguity about what was agreed – and on our side, where unity is essential in dealing with a very [slippery] adversary, there are troubling discrepancies between the French and U.S. understandings.

Just look at the wriggles and evasions since Lausanne. President Barack Obama said the sanctions would be lifted only after Iran has delivered on its commitments. Supreme Leader Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani draw new red lines. They insist on the immediate removal of sanctions on agreement; they reject monitoring of Iran’s military sites and have the nerve to say its subversion – assistance to “resistance” groups – will continue.

Yet the sanctions that took years to put in place are being removed almost immediately, unlinked to a change in Iran’s behavior. The symmetry is grim: The Iranians walk away from long-standing commitments and the Americans compromise on long-standing demands.

SnyderTalk Comment: Yahweh said this to Abraham—“And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

“Betrayal” is a very good choice of words.

Enough said.

Natan Sharansky: When Did America Forget that It’s America?— On a number of occasions during the negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, the Israeli government has appealed to the United States and its allies to demand a change in Tehran’s aggressive behavior. If Iran wishes to be treated as a normal state, Israel has said, then it should start acting like one. Unfortunately, these appeals have been summarily dismissed. The Obama administration apparently believes that only after a nuclear agreement is signed can the free world expect Iran to stop its attempts at regional domination, improve its human rights record and, in general, behave like the civilized state it hopes the world will recognize it to be. As a former Soviet dissident, I cannot help but compare this approach to that of the United States during its decades-long negotiations with the Soviet Union, which at the time was a global superpower and a existential threat to the free world. The differences are striking and revealing. For starters, consider that the Soviet regime felt obliged to make its first ideological concession simply to enter into negotiations with the United States about economic cooperation. At the end of the 1950s, Moscow abandoned its doctrine of fomenting a worldwide communist revolution and adopted in its place a credo of peaceful coexistence between communism and capitalism. The Soviet leadership paid a high price for this concession, both internally — in the form of millions of citizens, like me, who had been obliged to study Marxism and Leninism as the truth and now found their partial abandonment confusing — and internationally, in their relations with the Chinese and other dogmatic communists who viewed the change as a betrayal. Nevertheless, the Soviet government understood that it had no other way to get what it needed from the United States.

SnyderTalk Comment: Americans didn’t forget who we are.  Obama never knew who we are, but he was elected president.  Democrats forgot who we are a long time ago.

Bottom line: we have a problem with Obama and Democrats.  Americans still know who we are and what we stand for.  Obama and Democrats don’t.  That’s as clear as a bell.

Abdulaziz Sager: The Middle East is in flames — and Barack Obama’s making it worse—U.S. President Barack Obama’s recent explanation of how his administration will engage with the Middle East is far from reassuring to the region. In his interview with Tom Friedman from the New York Times on April 4, Obama explained U.S. foreign policy moves on Iran and Cuba, which Friedman described as the “Obama doctrine.” He stated that “We will engage, but we preserve all our capabilities.” By capabilities, the President must mean the tools, whether diplomatic, economic or military, to protect and defend U.S. interests. The doctrine is significant because it provides greater clarity about the U.S. policy under the rest of Obama’s presidency. Instead of the “new beginning” that the President outlined in his much discussed Cairo speech in 2009, U.S. policy in the Middle East remains mired in a contradiction between principles and action on the ground.

Maj. Gen. (ret.) Yaakov Amidror: The U.S. Can Bring Iran’s Nuclear Program to a Halt. It Simply Chooses Not to Do So—The U.S. changed its policy mid-negotiations, going from demanding that Iran be stripped of its nuclear weapons production capabilities, to discussing the nature of the limitations and supervision placed on these capabilities. The framework deal clearly indicates that the U.S. has come to accept that Iran will one day possess military nuclear capabilities. The hope that the agreement will somehow breed a positive process in Iran has no hold in reality. In fact, there is no debate within the Iranian leadership on whether or not such capabilities are necessary, only about the best way to go about achieving them. The argument that any military strike would result in only a short-term setback in Iran’s nuclear endeavors is wrong because it fails to account for the effect a successful strike would have on Tehran’s willingness to invest in rehabilitating a program that could be destroyed in a matter of several nights, which is how long the U.S. said it would take to strike all of Iran’s nuclear facilities. I believe that Iran would not rush to resuscitate its nuclear program in the event it was destroyed by the U.S. It also stands to reason that Iran’s actual ability to retaliate over such a strike, other than by putting Hizbullah in play, would be limited. The U.S. can forcibly bring the Iranian nuclear program to a halt, it simply chooses not to do so.

Abdulrahman al-Rashed: Iran’s First Acquisition after the Deal—Iran’s first acquisition after signing the draft nuclear deal, amid promises to lift sanctions, were S-300 missiles. The deal, even before finally being sealed, has already led to further militarization of the region and increasing tensions. Many Arab groups considered the missile deal as evidence that the nuclear deal has increased Iran’s aggressiveness and not brought it closer to peace. The Gulf states have different calculations than Israel. Israel has the nuclear and conventional power that can destroy Iran in a day in the event of any war. Gulf countries primarily rely on air power, which had been significantly better than Iran’s previous missiles. The S-300 missiles may weaken the ability of the Gulf’s main force in the event of any external threat. Some may wonder: Why don’t we have a peaceful outlook and hope that Iran, after gaining military confidence with the nuclear and Russian missile deals, will be more relaxed and stop spreading turmoil in the region? Because realities on the ground are different. Tehran’s appetite for chaos will surge because it has realized it has neutralized Western countries from intervening. Tehran’s leaders believe that the region has become an open map for the first time since the Sykes-Picot agreement, and the borders can be adjusted to suit Iran’s own interests.

WND: Reports from Israel reveal startling rerun of history— They call it the “Kaduri Revival” and reports over recent months have confirmed the teachings of one of Israel’s most venerated rabbi are leading Jews time and again to accept Jesus Christ as the Messiah. And face persecution. Baptist preacher and radio host Carl Gallups says the situation facing Messianic Jews right now in Israel is “reminiscent of what we read about in the New Testament – in the early days of the church.” There, he said, Jews accepting a Christian faith were persecuted. And today, they “are facing the same hardships and persecution the early church faced,” he said. “Gallups is the author of “Final Warning: Understanding the Trumpet Days of Revelation,” which cracked the top 100 bestseller list on Amazon as a growing number of political leaders and media commentators are openly speaking about the end times. But Gallups believes one of the least-reported aspects of this discussion is the rise of Messianic Judaism in Israel.

SnyderTalk Comment: This has to happen.  Read Matthew chapter 23 and pay particular attention to verses 37-39.

I wish that Jewish people would accept the truth before they have no choice, but that’s not going to happen.  Eventually, they will accept that the Messiah is Yahweh, because Yahweh will make sure that they do.  He is going to change their hearts His way and in His timing.

AFP: Iran leader urges military to increase ‘preparedness— Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urged his armed forces Sunday to increase their “defensive preparedness”, denouncing a US warning that military action is an option if there is no nuclear deal. In a speech to commanders and troops, the supreme leader said “the other side with insolence threaten us all the time”, denying Iran was seeking an atomic bomb and insisting its military doctrine is defensive. Khamenei’s remarks came after General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, reiterated last week that should nuclear talks with Iran fail “the military option… is intact”. The United States has long said bombing Iran’s nuclear sites and other key facilities may be necessary if Tehran does not rein in its atomic activities.

Ben White: Voting patterns on the Middle East in the British parliament— Most MPs at Westminster have an easy option available to them for registering their opinion about a particular topic, as well as gathering support about the subject in question. An EDM is a motion with a short title and a text no longer than 250 words. Technically, an EDM formally calls for a debate, but very few EDMs are ultimately debated in the House of Commons. There is an unwritten rule that ministers, government whips, and Parliamentary Private Secretaries do not table or sign EDMs – in other words, it is primarily a tool for backbenchers. EDMs are useful as a way of expressing an opinion – and seeing how many other MPs agree – as well as drawing attention to a particular subject. This means that they are also useful for campaigners, who, with the support of an MP, can garner backing at Westminster for a particular issue. Approximately 2-3,000 EDMs are tabled per parliamentary session. Only a handful will attract more than 200 names, and a few dozen will top 100 signatures. Many are signed by just a couple of MPs. The most popular EDM on record was tabled during the 2001-02 session by Malcolm Savidge, on the need to avoid conflict between India and Pakistan – it got 502 signatures.

Uzay Bulut: Churches in Turkey on the Verge of Extinction— While Eastern Orthodox Christians recently celebrated their Easter holy week, a historical Church in Istanbul — the once magnificent Christian city of Constantinople — is witnessing yet another abuse at the hands of its current authorities. “The historic Istanbul cathedral and museum, Hagia Sophia, witnessed its first Quran recitation under its roof after 85 years Saturday,” reported the state-run Anatolian News Agency of Turkey. “The Religious Affairs Directorate launched the exhibition “Love of Prophet,” as part of commemorations of the birth of Islamic Prophet Muhammad.” Even though Christians are a tiny minority in Turkey today, Christianity has a long history in Asia Minor, the birthplace of many Christian Apostles and Saints, including Paul of Tarsus, Timothy, Nicholas of Myra, and Polycarp of Smyrna.

Mordechai Schiller: Manipulated or Convinced?— Forget about facts. All that counts is the right narrative. And why the role of government isn’t to govern – but to tell the correct story. I’ve been noticing the word narrative in the news a lot. Taken at face value, narrative means a particular interpretation or version of a story. More cynically, narrative is an artful way of saying “spin” — i.e., a PR-driven tangled web of information, persuasion, manipulation and deception. Ever since great ships took to sea, sailors on long voyages would spin yarns — tell long, often fantastical tales. Other than storms, pirates, or whales, the only breaks in the monotony at sea might be singing shanties or carving scrimshaw from whale’s teeth. A good yarn spinner was a valuable mate on board. Accuracy wasn’t important in spinning a yarn; the longer and more imaginative, the better.

Daniel Mael: Down With Disinvitations— The idea that upholding free speech should require “spine” is a scary indication of the world that academia is nurturing. Censorship, for some, might prevent intellectual or emotional discomfort — but sometimes these are as essential to a real education as professors. The thought of blocking a speaker on campus should be abhorrent to anyone who values academic freedom, free speech and the courtesy of at least listening to statements with which one might — or might not — agree.

Josh Nass: The effective way to combat anti-Israel activity on campus: Public relations—There has been an incredible growth of anti-Semitism on college campuses in North America. Too often anti-Israel sentiment is simply a veiled and more culturally appropriate form of anti-Semitism. According to the Anti-Defamation League, anti-Semitic incidents on college campuses in the United States increased by 21 percent in 2014 compared to 2013. This past October, swastikas were painted on the Jewish fraternity house at Emory University in Atlanta, just one day after Yom Kippur, the holiest Jewish day of the year. In May 2014, it was discovered that professors at Temple University were participating in a listserv that contained anti-Israel and anti-Semitic rhetoric, including a denial of the Holocaust. And this March, a student at UCLA was initially rejected from applying to the Student Council’s Judicial Board because she was Jewish.

Oded Eran and Gallia Lindenstrauss: Turkey Navigates between East and West, Shiites and Sunnis—Despite repeated attempts over more than a decade, Turkish leader Erdogan has failed to command a central role for his country in a region beset by religious, ethnic, and economic controversies. In an attempt to win on all fronts he has alienated friends and foes, as well as NATO allies. The majority of these NATO allies are also members of the European Union; Turkey has long aspired to become a member of the EU, and at least as far as formal statements are concerned, Erdogan and the Justice and Development Party share this goal. However, Turkey’s dream of becoming an EU member is fast fading away. Moreover, it is doubtful whether Turkey under Erdogan is genuinely seeking EU membership, given the obligations it entails. In the past, part of the allure of the “Turkish model” in Arab public opinion was the fact that Turkey is an EU candidate state. Sans this element, Erdogan’s autocratic tendencies and worrying signs regarding the Turkish economy make the Turkish model much less enviable, and mark one more reason for the relative decline of Turkey’s regional influence.

Public debt has almost doubled in 7 years.  That’s shocking.

China Shifts Into Stimulus Mode With Cut to Banks’ Reserve Ratio

SnyderTalk Comment: The quantitative easing program (QE) that was introduced by Ben Bernanke while he was Chairman of the Federal Reserve to stimulate the U.S. economy is still in effect.  Europe and now China have followed suit with central bank moves to stimulate their economies.  Together, the U.S., the European Union, and China represent more than 50% of global GDP at PPP.

Even with these stimulative moves, the global economy is verging on deflation.  When the dam bursts, watch out.  I think it will make the Great Recession look like a hiccup.  It’s just a matter of time before it happens.  When is anybody’s guess.

Think of these stimulative moves as medicine for global economic constipation.  One dose of laxative didn’t do the trick, so more countries are taking more laxatives.  Eventually, the laxatives will kick in.  They have to, and when they do, nobody knows what will happen.  It could be explosive.

I think we are heading for a serious case of global diarrhea.

For an interesting take on QE, see “The Fed Is Not Printing Money, It’s Doing Something Much Worse”.

If none of this makes any sense, have no fear.  Nobody understands what is happening and what will happen next.  It’s all guesswork.  The world’s leading economists are guessing, too.

That’s a scary thought.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Exodus 7

1 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “See, I make you as God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet. 2 You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall speak to Pharaoh that he let the sons of Israel go out of his land. 3 But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart that I may multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt. 4 When Pharaoh does not listen to you, then I will lay My hand on Egypt and bring out My hosts, My people the sons of Israel, from the land of Egypt by great judgments. 5 The Egyptians shall know that I am Yahweh, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the sons of Israel from their midst.” 6 So Moses and Aaron did it; as Yahweh commanded them, thus they did. 7 Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three, when they spoke to Pharaoh.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
