Clifford D. May—A farewell to arms control treaties:

Philosopher-comedian Lily Tomlin used to say, “No matter how cynical you get, it is impossible to keep up.” Has that ever been truer than it is in Washington right now?

Last week, we learned that the deal the Obama administration has been attempting to negotiate with the Islamic Republic of Iran will not be “legally binding.”

“We’re not negotiating a legally binding plan,” Secretary of State John Kerry told a congressional hearing. “We’re negotiating a plan that will have a capacity for enforcement.”

What’s the point of a “plan” that would not legally bind Iran’s rulers — a plan that would not obligate the world’s leading sponsors of terrorism to stop building nuclear weapons they clearly intend to utilize in what they call a jihad against their neighbors, America and the West? If those rulers would not be bound by the “plan,” how would it include a “capacity for enforcement”? What is a “capacity” for enforcement anyway?

[…]

To continue reading, click here.

SnyderTalk Comment: It’s obvious that Obama’s plan is a disaster in the making.  Israel is not the only country put at risk by Obama’s misadventure with Iran, but it is a serious target.  The first nations to be hit are already being hit: Yemen, Iraq, and Syria, for example.

Just because it’s obvious doesn’t mean that Obama will get it.  None are so blind as those that will not see. (Matthew Henry)

See “Obama’s chief of staff slams Benjamin Netanyahu’s comments in J-Street speech”.  Obama and those closest to him have no shame and no morals.  They certainly don’t know Yahweh.  I don’t care what they say.  You can tell a tree by its fruit.

J Street is the Israeli equivalent of the Center for American Progress in the U.S.  Scratch “progress” and insert “degradation” and you have a clear picture of what it stands for.

And now this from Democrats: “US Democrats say Israel’s efforts on Iran are backfiring”.  That’s outlandish.  Here’s why:

  1. Saying nothing means that Obama does as he pleases without hesitation.
  2. Saying something makes Obama think twice about what he is doing. Because thinking is not Obama’s strong suit, thinking twice doesn’t mean that he will do the right thing, but it heightens his awareness of possible political backlash.
  3. Fact: Obama said that Netanyahu’s speech to Congress would be counterproductive, but curiously, he stepped up his efforts in the Iran negotiations following the speech.
  4. Bottom line: Israel’s efforts are not backfiring. They are producing the desired result.  Again, that doesn’t mean that Obama will do the right thing.  It simply means that he will think twice.
  5. Even more, speaking up now gives members of Congress who understand the reality of the situation ammunition to use in their quest to prevent a bad deal or to quash it in Congress later if need be.

We are witnessing a battle between good and evil.  Whose side are you on?

Boaz Bismuth: White House intervention has gone too far— Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apologized to the Israeli Arab community on Monday, and he was right to do so. Since the Likud party’s victory in the election a week ago, it seems that we have lost sight of the most important issues, such as housing prices and the emerging nuclear deal with Iran. Instead, with the media’s encouragement, we have moved on to the conflicts between the Left and the Right, between Arabs and Jews, between Ashkenazi Jews and Sephardi Jews. We have even witnessed fights between senior journalists on these issues. So what should we do in a situation like this one? First of all, we need to calm down. Netanyahu’s apology came precisely in that spirit. Netanyahu understands that a prime minister has privileges, but he or she has many more duties. A prime minister must ensure security, welfare and, especially, calm. This means that he has to intervene, particularly after his election-day comments — that Arab citizens were coming to the polls in droves and were being bused in to vote by left-wing NGOs — were taken as hurtful by Israeli Arabs. Netanyahu felt he was making a political point, not a racist one. Though it is hard to say it was elegantly phrased.

Mark Berman: Obama: No ‘meaningful framework’ in place for Palestinian state—President Obama on Tuesday said that the possibility of peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians seems “very dim” in the wake of comments Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made before his reelection last week. Netanyahu had said shortly before the election that he opposed a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, though he walked back the comments after he was reelected. Even if you accept the reversal, “it’s hard to envision” how to get to a secure Palestinian state and a “fully recognized Jewish state of Israel,” Obama said. “There still does not appear to be a prospect of a meaningful framework established that would lead to a Palestinian state,” Obama said during a news conference Tuesday.

SnyderTalk Comment:  No meaningful framework?  That’s an understatement.

A meaningful framework begins with the total and irrevocable abandonment of both the Hamas and Palestinian charters which call for Israel’s annihilation.  Absent that, there can be no peace.

The second step is just as important: recognition of Israel as a Jewish state.  Absent that, there can be no peace.

Third, the Palestinians must develop their own economic system.  They can’t be an independent state while they simply suck up Israel’s resources.

They need a government that works, an education system that teaches other skills besides ways to destroy Israel, and a justice system that deals with rampant terrorism and fraud among other things.

Bottom line: there will be no legitimate Palestinian state.  The only thing that might happen is the temporary imposition of a make-believe Palestinian state that will implode just like everything else the Palestinians have done.

The word “Palestinian” was made up.  There is no historical, recognizable people group that is called Palestinian.  A Palestinian state would be just as imaginary.  Like the morning fog, it would disappear with the first signs of heat and light.

Josh Kraushaar: Ignoring Public Opinion on Iran—If voters were confident that President Obama was striking a good deal with Iran that would prevent Tehran from getting nuclear weapons, he’d have little trouble getting support from the legislative branch. The reason the president is facing such bipartisan backlash is that an overwhelming number of voters are deeply worried about the direction of the negotiations. In this month’s NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, 71% said they believed a deal would not prevent the Iranians from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Earlier in March, a Fox News poll found that 57% believed the U.S. wasn’t being “aggressive enough” in preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear program, while nearly two-thirds supported military action as a last resort. In a February Gallup Poll, 77% said they believed Iran’s development of nuclear weapons posed a “critical threat” to the U.S. The reason for the growing opposition is that many voters don’t believe the agreement will come close to stopping Iran’s nuclear program, a point that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu underscored in his congressional address. All of the polling is causing a significant number of Senate Democrats to consider breaking with their president to join Republicans in overriding a presidential veto over the deal.

Bassam Tawil: Obama Declares War on Israel— Many Arabs and Muslims are rubbing their hands in joy as they watch U.S. President Barack Obama declare war on Israel after the victory of Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud Party in last week’s general election. They do not see the rising tensions between Obama and Netanyahu as the result of a personal dispute between two leaders. Instead, the dispute is seen by many Arabs and Muslims as part of the Obama Administration’s strategy to undermine Israel and force it to make territorial concessions that would pose an existential threat to Israel. At the beginning of his first term in office, he raised high hopes in the Arab and Islamic countries when he rushed to deliver an apologetic speech at the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Al-Azhar University in Cairo. His speech left many Arabs and Muslims with the impression that here, finally, is an American president who is prepared to sacrifice Israel for the sake of appeasing its enemies.

SnyderTalk Comment: This is so true, and Yahweh is watching it very carefully.  You can count on it.

Michael Hayden, Olli Heinonen and Ray Takeyh: The Iran Time Bomb—A careful assessment reveals that a one-year breakout time may not be sufficient to detect and reverse Iranian violations. Once the U.S. had an indication that Iran was violating an agreement, it could be months before the director of national intelligence would be confident enough to present a case for action to the president. History suggests the Iranians would engage in protracted negotiations and much arcane questioning of the evidence. Then the U.S. would have to convince the other member states invested in the agreement – including veto-wielding Russia and China – that the accord was being violated and that forceful action was needed. Time would be spent quarrelling over divergent views. In the end, a year simply may not be enough time to build an international consensus on measures to redress Iranian violations. With stakes so high, we need a national debate about the nature and parameters of any agreement. The right venue for that debate is the halls of Congress. No agreement can be considered viable or enduring without such legislative approbation.

Moshe Philips and Benyamin Korn: The Religious Dogma of Palestinian Statehood— Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s remark about the dangers of a Palestinian state has sent advocates of Palestinian statehood into a rage so hysterical that you would think he had questioned somebody’s sacred religious beliefs. On second thought, maybe he did. The Palestinian statehood crowd has become so inflexible and doctrinaire, and so oblivious to the changing realities of the Middle East, that their political positions are starting to resemble a set-in-stone religious faith. Here’s what the prime minister said: “Anyone who is going to establish a Palestinian state, anyone who is going to evacuate territories today, is simply giving a base for attacks to the radical Islam against Israel. This is the true reality that was created here in the last few years.” His point was simple and straightforward. His logic was impeccable. The response of critics has been exactly the opposite.

Amir Taheri: Do the Palestinians Want a Two-State Solution?—The Palestinians are divided. In one camp we have Fatah and its allies who have never formally committed to a two-state formula but have dropped hints that they might accept such a solution as a first step toward liberating the rest of Palestine, that is to say, what is now Israel, later. The second camp is dominated by Hamas, which is committed to the destruction of Israel. In the third camp, there are more radical Palestinian groups, including the Islamic Jihad, now the favored protege of the Islamic Republic in Tehran. Those familiar with the Palestinian public mood in the West Bank and Gaza know that there is great certainty that any Palestinian state manufactured through diplomatic games may become as corrupt and despotic as almost all Arab states are today. Gaza, which is already a Palestinian state in all but name, is a bad poster for a future state. Proportionally, Gaza has more political prisoners than any Arab country. Hamas imposes a regime of censorship and intimidation little better than that of Assad in Syria. Living with a problem, by managing it better, may be wiser than rushing into a mirage of a solution that could produce even bigger problems.

Guy Taylor and Ben Wolfgang: Obama downplays Iran ‘death to America’ remarks, toes hard line on Netanyahu— The Obama administration toed a hard line Monday against Benjamin Netanyahu for his comments about Israeli Arabs and Palestinian statehood leading up to Israel’s election last week, but downplayed concerns over “death to America” remarks Iran’s supreme leader made over the weekend. The White House also seemed to warmly welcome input from 367 House members reiterating Congress‘ role in reaching a final nuclear agreement with Tehran, despite its vigorous attacks on an earlier letter to the Iranian leadership from 47 GOP senators explaining that any deal Iran may strike with the U.S. needs to be submitted to Congress to be binding. White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Mr. Netanyahu was right to apologize for rallying his supporters by saying too many Arabs were voting — but that Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s remarks merely “underscore why it is so critically important” that the U.S. and other world powers “succeed in preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.” While he suggested anti-American language from Iran is something Washington can wait to deal with after the achievement of a potential nuclear agreement with Tehran, Mr. Earnest said Mr. Netanyahu needed to move quickly toward assuring Israeli Arabs that no harm was meant by his election-eve pronouncements against them.

Dennis Prager: America’s Left-Wing Jews Ashamed of Israel’s Jews— American Jews on the left were beside themselves last week. Israel’s Jews did something that utterly infuriated these American Jews: Israel’s Jews overwhelmingly voted for a man of the right (or for other right-of-center parties). And not just any right-winger, but the only leader in the Western world to publicly differ from their hero, President Barack Obama. To understand their fury, one must first understand that no one is more certain of their moral superiority than the left. This is true the world over, and among Jews it is particularly so. For the leaders of the American Jewish religious left (Reform, Reconstructionist, and now Conservative Judaism) Jews who are politically or socially conservative are a disgrace to Judaism, which, for left-wing Jews, is essentially the same as leftism. Both religious and secular Jews on the left regard Jewish conservatives as moral traitors to the Jewish people.

SnyderTalk Comment: Israeli Jews are on the frontline every day.  American Jews are safe and secure for the time being, but danger for them is lurking just around the corner.  Where you stand depends on where you sit.

Peter Martino: Europe Eager to Arm Islamist Extremists with Nuclear Weapons— The European Union says it is “not helpful” to “spread fears” about the impending nuclear deal with Iran. The so-called P5+1, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany, hope to clinch a framework agreement with Iran by the end of this month and a final agreement by June 30. Three of the six P5+1 members — Britain, France and Germany — are EU member states. Last week, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others who warn that supplying Iran with the means to make nuclear weapons is dangerous. Mogherini, successor to the infamous Catherine Ashton, said that the Iranian nuclear deal is “a good deal” and that she is committed to bringing the talks with Iran to a positive end.

Oded Eran: A New Government in Israel: Circumventing the Expected— A new Israeli government has yet to be formed and sworn in, but the Israeli and international media have already predicted a collision between Israel and the international community, including the United States. Given the political ideology shared by the potential coalition partners and their approach to the Israeli- Palestinian conflict, that prediction is not hard to make. Prime Minister Netanyahu will have to juxtapose the stability of his future government against the risks involved in pursuing the pre-election political promises of his own party and the other coalition partners. It is recommended that when the coalition charts its future international agenda, the Prime Minister ask to meet the political leadership of the key international actors to conduct a frank discussion on expectations, constraints, and possibilities. This time, his first stop should be Washington – and not necessarily Capitol Hill.

Dr. Haim Shine: A gold medal in hypocrisy— The Israeli Left has failed to internalize the election results. Crushed and mournful leftists are wandering the streets, convinced that the country that was “rightfully” theirs has been suddenly and surprisingly taken from them. Instead of quieting down and trying to figure out why a majority of the public has become fed up with their messages, leftists are continuing their ugly delegitimization campaign against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and are once again trying to increase dissension within Israeli society. If Olympic gold medals were given for hypocrisy and pretense, the Israeli Left, led by Yedioth Ahronoth, would certainly be entitled to one. Never has an Israeli election campaign seen so much incitement. And after the Left’s electoral loss, the headlines are now about the Right’s supposed “racism” against Israeli Arabs. From where does the Left get the nerve to play with the dignity of Israeli Arabs in such a cynical and repulsive manner?

Daniel Pipes: Islam bulldozes the past— The recent bulldozing by the Islamic State group of the ancient cities of Nimrud, Hatra and Korsabad, three of the world’s greatest archaeological and cultural sites, is just this group’s latest round of assaults across the large area under its control. Since January 2014, the flamboyantly barbaric group has blown up Shiite mosques, bulldozed churches, pulverized shrines, and plundered museums. Worse yet, Islamic State’s record fits into an old and common pattern of destruction of historical artifacts by Muslims. Some attacks target the works of other, rival religions, such as Orthodox churches in northern Cyprus (since 1974), the Bamiyan Buddhas in Afghanistan (in 2001), the Ghriba synagogue in Tunisia (2002), a historic Hindu temple in Malaysia (2006), and the Assyrian antiquities (“idols”) in Mosul (2015). On a personal level, a Saudi national smashed historic statues at the Senso-Ji Buddhist temple in Tokyo in 2014. Nor has this danger subsided: Islamic leaders have bruited plans to destroy Persepolis in Iran, Saint Catherine’s Monastery in the Sinai, and the Great Pyramids of Egypt.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Exodus 3: 16-22

16 “Go and gather the elders of Israel together and say to them, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, has appeared to me, saying, “I am indeed concerned about you and what has been done to you in Egypt. 17 So I said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite, to a land flowing with milk and honey.”’ 18 They will pay heed to what you say; and you with the elders of Israel will come to the king of Egypt and you will say to him, ‘Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. So now, please, let us go a three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to Yahweh our God.’ 19 But I know that the king of Egypt will not permit you to go, except under compulsion. 20 So I will stretch out My hand and strike Egypt with all My miracles which I shall do in the midst of it; and after that he will let you go. 21 I will grant this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall be that when you go, you will not go empty-handed. 22 But every woman shall ask of her neighbor and the woman who lives in her house, articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing; and you will put them on your sons and daughters. Thus you will plunder the Egyptians.”

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite.
