Jethro Mullen—ISIS threatens to kill 2 Japanese hostages unless Tokyo pays $200 million:

The militant group ISIS has threatened to kill two Japanese hostages unless Tokyo hands over $200 million within 72 hours.

In a video posted online Tuesday, a masked man clad in black and holding a knife stands over two kneeling men in orange jumpsuits against the backdrop of a barren landscape.

The masked man links the threat against the two men’s lives to Japan’s support for the U.S.-led coalition that’s fighting ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

“Although you are more than 8,500 kilometers away from the Islamic State, you willingly volunteered to take part in this crusade,” the man says, addressing his comments to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who is currently visiting the Middle East.

The international community needs to “deal with terrorists without giving into them,” Abe said at a news conference in Jerusalem after the release of the video. But he stopped short of explicitly ruling out the payment of a ransom or negotiations with the hostages’ captors.

SnyderTalk Comment: On the heels of the Paris killing spree, Islamist terrorists are making this statement: “We’re back.”

Japanese Prime Minister Abe is correct.  We have to deal with Islamist terrorists without giving in to their demands.  No ransom is high enough.  No payment of any kind will satisfy our enemy.  They want to rule the world and convert or kill every living soul.  That’s what they are saying in those words.

Not taking them seriously is a mistake.

There should be no “no-go” zones anyplace in the world where Islamists are free to practice their butchery.  It’s time to play offense.

13--Perspectives 2

#####

Neil Munro: Obama Aligns With Muslim Brotherhood In Islamic Reform Debate—The president of the United States has somehow put himself on the opposite side of an Islamic theological debate from the Muslim president of Egypt. President Obama has aligned himself with revivalist groups — including the Muslim Brotherhood — that are trying to promote traditionalist Islam, while Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has begun championing Islamic modernizers. Those modernizers want to defang the militant and supremacist Islam that has reigned since Islam emerged in the 700s. In contrast, the revivalists — and their allied jihadis — want to regain the regional power that traditionalist Islam held until roughly 1800.

Dean Obeidallah: In the Middle East, the Two-State Solution Is Dead—The failure at the UN of the Palestinian resolution underscores the point: The two-state solution isn’t happening. What now? Don’t ask. The two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is dead. (At least for now, because few things about this dispute are absolutely certain.) But on Tuesday, we saw another nail hammered into the already pretty tightly nailed down coffin of the two-state solution. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had pushed the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution that would’ve required the Israeli government to withdraw its forces from the West Bank by 2017. It also would’ve mandated that a comprehensive peace deal be concluded within a year. This initiative had the support of all 22 members of the Arab League, which in and of itself is remarkable. However, the resolution only received the support of eight of the 15 members of the Security Council, one less than needed for passage. The United States, only one of two nations to vote no (along with Australia), explained via UN Ambassador Samantha Power that while our government doesn’t support the status quo, “peace must come from hard compromises that occur at the negotiating table.”

SnyderTalk Comment: As Mark Twain said, “The news of my death has been greatly exaggerated.”  The same is true for the two-state solution.  It’s not dead.  Like Hydra, it has many heads, so cutting off one of them or a few of them does no good.  Besides, too many politicians have a vested interest in it, including President Obama.  For them, publicly admitting a change of heart is virtually unthinkable because it means that they were wrong in the first place.

As the video below explains, the two-state solution is a weapon that is being deployed in hopes of destroying Israel.

Dan Margalit: Pre-emptive action— The people killed on Syrian soil Sunday were evildoers who were bent on hurting Israel. Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah would like us to believe that he and his organization do not operate in Syria. But the truth is that they have tried to establish a foothold there that would serve both Hezbollah and Iran. From there they hoped they could train their guns on the Galilee and the Golan Heights. “If someone comes to kill you, rise up and kill him first,” says an old Jewish adage. This great rule of thumb can be summed up into two words: targeted killing. Those who were in the convoy in Syria — including the son of the dead terrorist Imad Mughniyeh, Jihad — were what the Bible would call the “evil angels” (Psalms 78:49). They were mortals and their lives ended appropriately. Period.

Yoav Limor: Hezbollah gets hit between the eyes— The question facing Hezbollah right now is not if, but how and when. Revenge will come, that is certain. The debate in Beirut (and Tehran) will be whether to make the response large enough to risk triggering a large-scale conflict in the north. Hezbollah would have a hard time quietly absorbing the strike on Sunday for multiple reasons. One of the biggest is the high profile nature of the strike: not car bomb or shooting from close range that leave no foot prints, but rather missiles fired from a helicopter, in broad daylight and with witnesses. Israel may not be officially confirming the attack as to not publicly humiliate Hezbollah, but it does not really matter; the accurate intelligence throughout and the pinpoint precision (no collateral damage) only add insult to injury for Hezbollah, which once again got one between the eyes.

Anne Bayefsky: Save Us from Islamist Terror and Hate—The warm feelings on display in Paris in response to the recent horrors, unfortunately, will do next to nothing to change the tide against Islamist terrorism. Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, now entering the eleventh year of what was originally billed as a four-year term, turned up to represent a would-be Judenrein state, where terrorism and the absence of the rule of law are the order of the day. And then there is France’s Jewish problem. There is no getting away from the fact that to be Jewish in France in 2015, you might have to hide in a basement freezer if you want to survive a trip to the grocery store. On Dec. 30, 2014, France voted for a Palestinian resolution in the Security Council, and against the United States. The resolution trashed a negotiated path to a Palestinian state (and thus genuine Arab acceptance of a Jewish state).

Emma Barnett: Somewhere between the Holocaust and 2015 It Became OK to Blame Jews Again—When I heard the news that four Jews had been murdered last week on European soil by an Islamist gun-toting terrorist, my blood ran cold. While I was stunned and enraged by the murders of the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists and writers – both as a journalist and citizen – it was the murder of my fellow Jews just across the Channel that left me feeling personally exposed. A startling YouGov survey found that more than half of British Jews fear the community may have no long-term future in Europe; over half say they have witnessed more anti-Semitism in the past two years than they have ever seen before. It’s become OK to blame “Jews” again – and the latest stick to beat the Jewish diaspora with is Israel.

Charles Krauthammer: Obama: Charlie who?—The Paris killers were well-trained, thoroughly radicalized, clear-eyed jihadist warriors. They cannot be dismissed as lone loons. Worse, they represent a growing generation of alienated European Muslims whose sheer number is approaching critical mass. The war on terror 2015 is at a new phase with a new geography. At the core are parallel would-be caliphates: in Syria and Iraq, the Islamic State; in Sub-Saharan Africa, now spilling out of Nigeria into Cameroon, a near-sovereign Boko Haram; in the badlands of Yemen, AQAP, the most dangerous of all al-Qaeda affiliates. And beyond lie not just a cast of mini-caliphates embedded in the most ungovernable parts of the Third World from Libya to Somalia to the borderlands of Pakistan, but an archipelago of no-go Islamist islands embedded in the heart of Europe. This is serious. In both size and reach it is growing.

Warren Goldstein: Canary in the Coal Mine—The plight of Jews in France bodes evil for the world. A few years ago, the murder of Rabbi Sandler and the young children of the Jewish day school in Toulouse occurred, followed by many other attacks on French Jewry, all of which were early warning signs of the lethal threat posed by radical Islam. A society in which Jews are not safe will ultimately not be secure for journalists, or for freedom, or for any values of human decency. On the Shabbat after the attacks, the Grand Synagogue of Paris was closed for services for the first time since the Nazi occupation of France. A society in which synagogues cannot open freely and in which Jews are not safe is one that is itself in danger. If Europe becomes Judenrein once again, the civilized world will have succumbed to the worst forces of barbarism and savagery. The fact that virtually every Jewish institution throughout the globe has to be heavily protected against the threat of Islamist terrorism is a sign of the dangers that the civilized world faces from these ominous forces. The fact that Jews cannot exist in places such as Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and many other Muslim countries is a moral disgrace which portends danger for the very future of humanity. Israel is the canary in the coal mine of the community of nations. Suicide bombers first launched themselves against the people of Israel, and then after that came the attacks of 9/11 in New York, 7/7 in London, in Bali, and in many other places. As the great powers of the world negotiate with the Islamic Republic of Iran, they should realize that while today its nuclear ambitions are directed at Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, history has taught that tomorrow their targets will be Paris, London, New York and Cairo.

Lior Akerman: Preventing Terrorism in Europe—Radical Islamist groups have been carrying out terrorist attacks in Europe for more than a decade. This past year a British soldier was decapitated in London, French soldiers were killed in Montauban and Toulouse, and two car bombs wreaked havoc in Malmo, Sweden. 44 million Muslims live in Europe. Four years ago, the official number of Muslims residing legally in Europe was 20 million. The Europeans assumed that their new immigrant Muslim neighbors would soon acculturate to a Western way of life. But they have come in order to change Western culture to be more like theirs. The immigrants established their own neighborhoods, built mosques and independent Muslim schools. Moreover, the birth rate among Muslims in Europe is three times the average. Steps to prevent terrorism from increasing include mapping out the dangerous extremist Muslim population centers, empowering law enforcement authorities and the courts to thwart future activity and prevent terrorist cells from forming, carrying out intelligence-gathering among problematic populations, and increasing intelligence cooperation and transparency among the various EU intelligence agencies.

Victor Sharpe: Lies, Damn Lies, Palestinian Promises and Abbas— The phrases above are in descending order. And Abbas flying to Paris to march against terror is just another instance of takiyyah. There is an old saying that, “promises, like pie crust, are meant to be broken.” This may be somewhat cynical but when it refers to the promises made to Israel by the Arabs who call themselves Palestinians, it is utterly apt. Never in the history of international diplomacy has so much dissimilitude been perpetrated for so long by one side – the PLO and it’s grotesque offspring, the so-called Palestinian Authority. It’s congenital untruthfulness and corresponding Israeli gullibility has resulted in disastrous and horrendous consequences for the embattled State of Israel. The Arab League created the PLO in 1964 – three years before the so-called “occupation” – and as an instrument to destroy the Jewish state. It soon came under the infernal leadership of Yasser Arafat.

Irwin Cotler: In Dark Times, Remember Wallenberg— It has been a dark January. Thus far, 2015 has brought tragic and infuriating terrorism, anti-Semitism, and assaults on liberty in France; a car bomb in Yemen that killed and injured dozens; and the massacre of thousands in Nigeria by Boko Haram, as well as yet another of the group’s mass kidnappings. This is in addition to continuing mass atrocities and humanitarian crises in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Central Africa, Sudan, and elsewhere, and it comes on the heels of the deadly hostage-taking in Sydney, and the barbarous terrorist attack on a school in Pakistan that left more than a hundred dead, most of them children. At times like these, the evil in the world can feel overwhelming, and it can be tempting to cede to despair, aggravating the problem of the international community as bystander to atrocity and injustice. How appropriate, then, that January 17 was Raoul Wallenberg Day in Canada, in remembrance and tribute to this disappeared hero of humanity.

Ronn Torossian: Netanyahu Was Right to Attend Paris Rally— Following the horrific terror attacks in France, world leaders marched in Paris against terror – and while French President Francois Hollande proclaimed in front of the cameras, “Today, Paris is the capital of the world,” he urged Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to attend. To his credit, Netanyahu rightfully attended and marched in the front row. The world’s most prominent representative of the Jewish State must be present at a rally against terrorism – no matter how anyone else feels. No people has been targeted by terrorists as much as the Jews.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 45: 1-3

1 Then Joseph could not control himself before all those who stood by him, and he cried, “Have everyone go out from me.” So there was no man with him when Joseph made himself known to his brothers. 2 He wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard it, and the household of Pharaoh heard of it. 3 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?” But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed at his presence.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
