Sarah el Deeb—Al-Qaida in Yemen urges local and international jihad:

Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, suspected of having ties to the attackers in Paris, has been the most active of the terror network’s branches in trying to strike in the West.

There are signs now that the group inspired or directly plotted the attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. If so, it would be the Yemen-based branch’s first successful strike outside its home territory.

That would be a triumph for its trademark double-strategy: Waging jihad in Yemen to build its strength to strike abroad.

The group, formed in 2009 as a merger between the terror group’s Yemeni and Saudi branches, has been blamed for a string of unsuccessful bomb plots against American targets.

These include a foiled plan to down a Detroit-bound airliner in 2009 using a new type of explosive hidden in the bomber’s underwear, and another attempt a year later to send mail bombs hidden in toner cartridges on planes bound to the U.S. from the Gulf.

The group’s lead bomb maker, Ibrahim al-Asiri, is believed to have created the explosives used in both foiled plots.

SnyderTalk Comment: I suspect that people in the United States won’t take the growing threat from Islamist terrorists seriously until the problem is more personal to them.  That’s a costly mistake, one that the people of France made and are just beginning to understand.

I hope that’s the reason why President Obama announced a summit on counter-terrorism.  See “President Obama Expecting World Leaders In Washington For Counter-Terrorism Summit At White House”.  It’s none too early, but better late than never.

Raymond Ibrahim: Christians Burned Alive— “They picked them up by their arms and legs and held them over the brick furnace until their clothes caught fire. And then they threw them [alive] inside the furnace.” — Javeed Maseeh, family spokesman, concerning a Christian couple in Pakistan murdered on rumors they had burned verses from the Qur’an. “I would appeal to your honor to put pressure on the government of Pakistan to end misuse of blasphemy laws against Christians, Ahmadiyyia and other religious minorities and condition US Aid on human rights and repeal of blasphemy laws.” — From a letter to U.S. President Barack Obama by Dr. Nazir S. Bhutti, President of the Pakistan Christian Congress, expressing surprise that the U.S. did not even bother to condemn the burning of Christians alive. East Jerusalem: Despite constant and ever bolder attacks on a church, police refuse to respond to pleas for help from the Christian congregation.

Jill Lawless: Je suis Charlie? Attack sparks debate on free speech limits—Are we all Charlie now? “Je suis Charlie” — I am Charlie — was the cry that that raced around the world in the wake of the murderous attack on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. It has been displayed on placards, scrawled as graffiti and shared millions of times on social media. Soon, though, came a riposte: “Je ne suis pas Charlie” — I am not Charlie — as the tragedy triggered a debate about free speech and its limits, and whether the right to offend should always be used. For many civil libertarians, the issue was clear. Charlie Hebdo had published crude, rude cartoons that mocked everyone from politicians to the pope to the Prophet Muhammad. It saw its mission as challenging taboos and sacred cows. The best way to honor the 12 killed and stand up for free speech was to print the cartoons again.

The Tower: Turkish FM: Hamas Leader Welcome in Turkey—Turkey’s top diplomat on Wednesday said that Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal was free to come to Turkey, following conflicting reports earlier this week that Meshaal was forced out of Qatar, where he has lived for several years. The reports, first published Monday, indicated that the Hamas leader, along with several members of the Muslim Brotherhood, was expelled from Doha and had discussed with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu the possibility of relocating to Turkey. The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday conveyed an Arab-language report to the effect that “Qatar has asked Mashaal and Hamas to refrain from conducting any public political activities in the country” as Doha “does not want to be seen as if it continues to support the Muslim Brotherhood,” of which Hamas is an offshoot. FOX News Channel’s James Rosen on Thursday pressed State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki on whether the terror group’s relations with Turkey could potentially place Ankara on a U.S. list of state sponsors of terror. Associated Press diplomatic correspondent Matt Lee pressed further, noting that Turkey “welcoming the leader of a group that [the U.S. has] designated a foreign terrorist organization would certainly seem to be supporting it.” Psaki’s answer was limited to reaffirming Hamas’s position as a designated terrorist organization and noting that Foggy Bottom had expressed concerns over Ankara’s relationship with Hamas.

DEBKAfile: Obama’s 2015 gift for Israel and Mid East: Funding for a new Iraqi army – dominated by Iran’s Rev Guards— President Barack Obama’s New Year gift to Israel and the Middle East is a multibillion fund for establishing an Iraqi army as a division of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC). Wednesday, the last day of 2014, two defense ministers, Iran’s Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehqani and Iraq’s Khallid al-Obeidi, signed a pact whereby Iran i.e. the Revolutionary Guards, will “continue to train new Iraqi military units” for replacing the army that crumbled under the onslaught launched by the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant since last June. “We do not see any other option than cooperation and being on the same side as Iran to uproot the terrorists,” said the Iraqi general. But he carefully avoided mentioning the 1,850 US soldiers posted to Baghdad, Kurdistan’s Irbil and the Al Asad air base in the western province of Anbar, or the 1,300 addition American combat troops, including paratroops of the elite 82nd Airborne Division’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team. The 3,150 US troops currently serving in Iraq are therefore sharing the task of rebuilding Iraqi military units with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards! Two other key points glossed over by the two defense ministers are revealed here by DEBKAfile’s exclusive military and intelligence sources: The sources of financing and recruits.

Rowan Scarborough: Muslims Segregated from French Society in Growing Islamist Mini-States—A backdrop to the massacre in Paris on Wednesday by self-professed al Qaeda terrorists is that city officials have increasingly ceded control of heavily Muslim neighborhoods to Islamists, block by block. France has Europe’s largest population of Muslims, some of whom talk openly of ruling the country one day and casting aside Western legal systems for harsh, Islam-based Shariah law. “The situation is out of control, and it is not reversible,” said Soeren Kern, an analyst at the Gatestone Institute and author of annual reports on the “Islamization of France.”

Douglas Murray: We Are Charlie: Free Speech v. Self-Censorship— Will we keep on blaming the victims? Perhaps the media assume that it is easier to force good people to keep quiet, or keep their own media offices from being attacked, than to than to tackle the problem of Islamic extremism head-on. It is easier to blame Geert Wilders, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Lars Hedegaard, Suzanne Winters, Salman Rushdie or Charlie Hebdo — and even put some of them on trial — than to attack the attackers, who might even attack back! The press and the media seem to prefer coerced self-censorship: It is your own fault if you get hurt: none of this would be happening to you if you had only kept your mouth shut. It is easier to denigrate the people warning us about a danger than it is to address the danger they are warning us about. Do you think a country should change its policies because segments of one community will run into newspaper offices and gun people down if you don’t? If those in positions of influence do not deal with this problem now, we will not like those who deal with it later.

Alana Goodman: CNN Anchor Claims Israel Propagandists Distorting France Attack—A CNN anchor claimed that Israeli propagandists are distorting the truth behind the terrorist attack on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and trying to sow anti-Muslim sentiment on Wednesday evening. Repeatedly stating that it was his “Friday night” and he just wanted to relax, CNN anchor Jim Clancy argued on Twitter that the Charlie Hebdo cartoons did not actually mock the Islamic prophet Muhammad and claimed that those who disagreed with him were part of a pro-Israel propaganda campaign. Clancy appears to have removed some of the more inflammatory tweets, but several still remain on his Twitter page. A spokesperson for CNN did not respond to request for comment.

Ben Cohen: Responding to Paris Terror Outrages, US Jews Highlight Centrality of Anti-Semitism to Islamist Ideology— American Jewish organizations responded to today’s fresh terrorist outrages by highlighting the profound danger posed by Islamist extremism and the need for western governments to adopt a coherent strategy in the face of an ongoing threat. “The world can no longer pretend that Islamist fundamentalists consist of a few isolated cells,” declared Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper, Founder and Dean and Associate Dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center. “They have millions of adherents around the world of Muslim communities. These horrors will not end until our political leaders come up with a global plan to identify, root out and destroy the cancer of Islamist extremism and until responsible leaders – religious and secular – go on the offensive against their co-religionists who murder and maim innocents in the name of Allah.”

Freddy Eytan: Can Tunisia Navigate the Cross-Currents of the Muslim World?—On Oct. 23, 2011, the Islamist party Ennahda won a majority of seats in Tunisia’s parliamentary elections. In January 2014, the serving Islamist prime minister, Rashid Gannouchi, decided of his own free will to resign, and early parliamentary and presidential elections were announced. On Dec. 14 the secular Nida Tunis won a majority of the parliament. Tunisia played an important role in the secret talks that led to the Oslo agreements and in 1996 Tunisia and Israel established diplomatic relations and interest offices. Those relations were severed with the outbreak of the Second Intifada in October 2000.

Guy Bechor: The Arab Oil Era Is Over—At the beginning of 2015, the U.S. lifted restrictions on American oil exports and has begun exporting oil to the world. Thanks to oil shale technology, within a year, the U.S. is expected to export one million barrels of oil a day and produce 12 million barrels a day. This means that oil prices will continue to drop. The Arab oil era is over, and so is the destructive power of the Persian Gulf’s oil dictatorships.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 43: 11-15

11 Then their father Israel said to them, “If it must be so, then do this: take some of the best products of the land in your bags, and carry down to the man as a present, a little balm and a little honey, aromatic gum and myrrh, pistachio nuts and almonds. 12 Take double the money in your hand, and take back in your hand the money that was returned in the mouth of your sacks; perhaps it was a mistake. 13 Take your brother also, and arise, return to the man; 14 and may God Almighty grant you compassion in the sight of the man, so that he will release to you your other brother and Benjamin. And as for me, if I am bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.” 15 So the men took this present, and they took double the money in their hand, and Benjamin; then they arose and went down to Egypt and stood before Joseph.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
