Haaretz—Did Barack Obama Snatch Victory From Jaws of Victory in UN ‘Palestine’ Vote?:

American Jewish organizations utilized a rare opportunity to lavish praise on Tuesday night on the Obama administration, in general, and on John Kerry and Samantha Power, in particular, for their “leadership” in thwarting the Palestinian proposal to the United Nations Security Council. Malcolm Hoenlein of the Conference of Presidents extolled Kerry’s “tireless diplomacy” while the Anti-Defamation League’s Abe Foxman praised Power for pointing out “the serious defects in the one-sided substance of the resolution.” The Israeli government, of course, will soon follow suit.

Which only goes to show that everything is relative, times change and yesterday’s outrageous position can turn into today’s negligible banality. Because Power, in her powerful statement, also made a point of reiterating Barack Obama’s statement of May 19, 2011 that the two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians will be based on “the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps.” It was this formula that led Benjamin Netanyahu to publicly scold Obama at their meeting at the White House the next day, an unprecedented incident that has cast a long shadow over relations between the two leaders to this day.

Power included Obama’s formulation in order to make clear to the Palestinians that an understanding with Washington over a Security Council resolution was within their reach. But the harshness of her attack on their proposal, which she described as “unconstructive, irresponsible and risked a downward spiral” wasn’t meant exclusively or even mainly for Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, but for Francois Holland in Paris: it’s not clear which of the two leaders angered the Americans more.

SnyderTalk Comment:  Deep Throat told Woodward and Bernstein to “follow the money.”  The money trail, he said, would lead to the culprits in the Watergate scandal.

That was sage advice.  It’s similar to the advice that I have for people who think we are approaching a critical time in human history.  Follow actions relating to the Land of Israel.  Pay particular attention to Jerusalem, the Temple Mount, and the way Jewish people are treated.

All of Yahweh’s promises were made to and through Jews, and Jews are just as central to those promises today as they were the day that Yahweh made them.  We call Israel the Promised Land for a reason: it’s because Yahweh promised it to Abraham’s descendants through Isaac and Jacob/Israel.  We call Jews the Chosen People for a reason, too: it’s because Yahweh chose them to lead the world to Him.

I believe that Yahweh is setting the stage so that our support for Jewish people and Israel will be the test of our faith.  Notice that I said “the test of our faith” and not “a test of our faith”.  It’s easy to say “I believe”, sing Kumbaya, and put on a happy face for others to see and admire, but that’s not what Yahweh requires.  He wants our hearts, and He knows that He has them when we are willing to stand with Him.

The day is coming when standing with Israel and Jewish people will cost you something.  It may already be here.  In parts of the world, I know that it has already arrived.

World Bulletin: Israelis want Netanyahu to keep premiership: Poll—A majority of Israelis want Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to remain in office, a recent opinion poll has showed. The poll, conducted by Israel Radio, indicated that 39 percent of Israelis want Netanyahu to maintain the premiership. Around 36 percent of respondents, meanwhile, said they wanted Labor Party leader Isaac Herzog to be Israel’s next prime minister, according to the poll, the findings of which were released on Friday. Most poll respondents expected Netanyahu’s Likud Party to win 23 seats in parliament in a general election slated for March of next year. They also expected a coalition including the Labor Party and former Justice Minister Tzipi Livni’s Hatnua Party to win roughly the same number of seats.

SnyderTalk Comment: Leftists in Israel are just like their brothers and sisters in the United States.  When implemented, their policies lead to political insecurity and threaten the lives of citizens.  The things that leftists say they want can’t work, but they are bound and determined to press ahead anyway despite the evidence.

Steven J. Rosen: Could Obama Swing the Israeli Election?— Most Israelis do not think the rise of Hamas, Hezbollah and ISIS makes this a great time to sign an agreement requiring the Israel Defense Force to leave the West Bank. When Israel’s former Prime Minister pulled every soldier and every settler out of Gaza in 2005, what happened after that withdrawal was the opposite of “land for peace.” It does not inspire confidence that just signing a piece of paper will bring real peace. The theory that friction will weaken Netanyahu is unproven; the reverse could happen.

Ben Cohen: Obama’s ‘Islamic Republic’ Doctrine: Trust in Iran Creates a Dangerous Mess—When Barack Obama began his first term as president almost six years ago, foreign policy chatter was prone to including terms like “regime change” and “axis of evil” in discussions about Iran. But as Obama sought to break decisively with the legacy of his predecessor, George W. Bush, he moved rapidly in the opposite direction, offering an olive branch to the Iranian regime within a few weeks of assuming office. In March 2009, Obama delivered a message to mark the Persian New Year in which he said, “The United States wants the Islamic Republic of Iran to take its rightful place in the community of nations. You have that right, but it comes with real responsibilities. And that place cannot be reached through terror or arms, but rather through peaceful actions that demonstrate the true greatness of the Iranian people and civilization.”

Philip Weiss: Next U.S. elections threaten Israel ‘total isolation’ — and the Israeli public is worried—Last summer an Obama foreign policy aide, Philip Gordon, shocked Israel supporters by warning that Israel faces a “tsunami” of international pressure if it fails to participate in the peace process. Now that warning seems to be coming true. Here are three items from the last day or so that speak to Israel’s growing isolation from world opinion, and the west. First, Israel has not responded to a request to endorse the U.S. policy shift on Cuba. The word is that Israel’s nose is out of joint. It wasn’t notified of the change ahead of time; and it has served as the U.S. government Best Friend for Life, affirming the embargo in the United Nations when everyone else has been against it. “They didn’t even give us a few minutes’ warning,” one senior Foreign Ministry official told [Haaretz]. I have to believe that Gaza plays a role in Israel’s wariness. If you listen to international opinion and end the blockade of Cuba, why not end the siege of Gaza too?

SnyderTalk Comment: Israelis have a very good reason to be worried.  They have seen what can happen when an anti-Israel person becomes President of the United States.  We need to elect pro-Israel people to every office including the Office of the President.

I believe that our protection of Israel is the only reason that the United States has been protected.  As we abandon Israel, Yahweh abandons us.  You can see it now in the U.S.

Raymond Ibrahim: Christians and Churches Attacked in the West“You have a cross on… Do you know what we do to people like you?” — Muslim in Denmark. Muslim Fulani gunmen forced their way into the church, cut [the pastor], his wife and a daughter with a machete, and then tied the hands and feet of the three of them before setting the building on fire… We only found the charred remains of the three of them in the morning. I heard them shouting at the top of their voices, saying they must obliterate any traces of Christianity in the town.” — Eyewitness account, Nigeria. Each year, approximately 1,000 women in Pakistan are forced to convert to Islam and marry Muslim men. Whenever a case of this nature reaches the law courts, those women, under threat and blackmail, often declare that their conversion and marriage were decisions freely made, and the case is closed. The Muslim persecution of Christians in September started making prominent appearances not just in the Islamic world, but also in the West—in America, Australia and Europe. In the United States, in Columbus, Indiana, three churches were vandalized on the same night. The words most frequently sprayed were “Infidels!” and “Koran 3:151.” The verse from the Koran states, “We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve [or “infidels”] for what they have associated with Allah [reference to Christian Trinity] of which He had not sent down [any] authority. And their refuge will be the Fire, and wretched is the residence of the wrongdoers.”

Jerry Gordon: Professor Raphael Israeli’s Prescience on Threat of Islamization to Australia and the West—Last week in the aftermath of the Islamikaze Jihad  at Sydney’s Lindt Cafe, Raphael Israeli , Retired Hebrew University Professor of Islamic  and East Asian History, was interviewed in Israel  by radio personality Tali Lipkin-Shahak.  It was the subject of an op-ed published this past weekend in Israel Hayom (IH), “Time to Wake Up” by Dror Eydar. Eydar Lipkin-Shahak initially cited Israeli for his prescience in 2007, when he lectured on Islam sponsored by an Australian Jewish organization, only, to be asked to leave for expressing his views.  As Eydar noted in his Israel Hayom op ed, In February 2007, Professor Raphael Israeli — an international expert on Islam and professor at Hebrew University — was interviewed by an Australian newspaper. In the interview, Israeli warned that the Muslim minority living in the continent posed a real threat to the Australians. His studies suggest that life can become unbearable when the Muslim population of a Western country reaches critical mass (in one study he even attached a number to this idea of critical mass: 10 percent of the general population). It is a rule of thumb, he said, and if it applies everywhere, it certainly applies in Australia.

Burak Bekdil: Why Does Nobody Want to Play with Turkey?Turkey is too big, too Islamist and too un-European for the EU; it is too little Islamist and a disliked former colonial power for most of the Arab street; a sectarian and regional rival for Iran, and a security threat to the bigwigs in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Theoretically, Turkey is a NATO ally. In reality, it is a part-time NATO ally. It became the first member state that had military exercises with the Syrian army and the Chinese Air Force; awarded a NATO-sensitive air defense contract to a Chinese company; supported jihadists in Syria and the Muslim Brotherhood elsewhere in the Middle East; allied with what NATO nations view as a terrorist organization (Hamas); shared, until recently, an embarrassing list of potentially terrorist-sponsoring countries with seven others including Syria and Pakistan, and sported a population with the lowest support for the NATO alliance. Also, theoretically, Turkey is a member candidate of the European Union [EU]. In reality, since 1974, Turkey has been occupying one-third of the territory of an EU member state, Cyprus; it boasts a record number of violations of human rights, according to rulings by the European Court of Human Rights; it remains the EU’s dreaded problem in most areas of fundamental policy; it habitually (and undiplomatically) ignores EU calls for broader freedoms; and it is gripped by a deep distrust of the EU. A most recent survey, “Public Opinion in The European Union – November 2014,” conducted by the European Commission’s Eurobarometer, revealed that only 18% of Turks trust the EU. Just recently, Russia’s prime minister, Dmitry Medvedev, recalled a joke by his predecessor Viktor Chernomyrdin [prime minister between 1992 and 1998] who once was asked by a journalist when Ukraine could join the EU. “After Turkey,” Chernomyrdin replied. When should we expect Turkey to become a member, asked the journalist. “Never,” he said.

SnyderTalk Comment: Even though polling data shows that Turks don’t trust the EU, the country still wants to become an EU member state.  I wonder if EU political leaders have enough sense to keep Turkey out.  We already know that NATO political and military leaders don’t have enough sense to shove them out.

As I have said before, Turkey is no longer our ally.  Pretending that she is will be costly.

Soeren Kern: The Islamization of France in 2014— The Muslim population of France reached an estimated 6.5 million in 2014. Although French law prohibits the collection of official statistics about the race or religion of its citizens, this estimate is based on several recent studies that attempt to calculate the number of people in France whose origins are from Muslim majority countries. This implies that the Muslim population of France is now roughly 10% of the country’s total population of 66 million. In real terms, France has the largest Muslim population in the European Union. Consequently, Islam was an ever-present topic in newspaper headlines during 2014. What follows is a chronological review of some of the main stories about the rise of Islam in France during 2014.

Shiryn Ghermezian: Israeli Journalist “Horrified” after Interviewing ISIS Fighters—Israeli journalist Itai Anghel told TLV1 Radio last week that it was “horrifying” to hear the graphic details of terrorist tactics from ISIS fighters captured by Kurdish forces that he interviewed while in Iraq and Syria. Anghel spent a week in each country. “One of them said that he deliberately uses a knife which is not the sharpest knife because he wants the beheading process to take longer and to inflict more pain and more suffering on his victim.” One ISIS militant said he felt joyous because “I was killing infidels.” Anghel said, “Israel is one of their targets but it’s not their main target.”

Robert Spencer: The NYPD Cop-Killing: The Chickens Come Home to Roost— When Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley murdered NYPD Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu as they ate lunch in their patrol car last Saturday, the only people who could possibly have been surprised were those who have not realized how assiduously Leftist and Muslim activists have worked – long before the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner — to demonize the NYPD and law enforcement in general. The advent of the killer was only a matter of time. It has been only lightly reported that Brinsley was a Muslim, and generally when it has been mentioned, it has been dismissed as a motive in favor of his statements about wanting to kill police officers to avenge Garner and Brown. But these two motivations – revenge for the perceived racist killings of two black men and Brinsley’s Islamic faith – are not mutually exclusive. Brinsley’s Facebook page featured a photo of the Qur’an open to the eighth chapter, where Allah exhorts the believers to “strike terror into the hearts of the enemies of Allah” (8:60).

Philip Weiss: Chris Hedges is blackballed by Penn after likening ISIS to Israel— Chris Hedges was invited to speak at the University of Pennsylvania. Then he likened Israel to ISIS, and got disinvited. At Truthdig (12/21), he reports this latest scandal: I had been invited to talk next April 3 at the University of Pennsylvania at a peace conference sponsored by the International Affairs Association, but last week after Truthdig published my column “ISIS—the New Israel” the lecture agency that set up the event received this email from Zachary Michael Belnavis, who is part of the student group: “We’re sorry to inform you that we don’t think that Chris Hedges would be a suitable fit for our upcoming peace conference. We’re saying this in light of a recent article he’s written in which he compares the organization ISIS to Israel (here’s the article in question). In light of this comparison we don’t believe he would be suitable to a co-existence speaker based on this stance he’s taken.” Being banned from speaking about the conflict between Israel and Palestine, especially at universities, is familiar to anyone who attempts to challenge the narrative of the Israel lobby. This is not the first time one of my speaking offers has been revoked and it will not be the last. However, the charge of Belnavis and the International Affairs Association that I do not believe in coexistence between the Palestinians and Israel is false. I oppose violence by either party. I have condemned Hamas rocket attacks as war crimes. And I support Israel’s right to exist within the pre-1967 borders.

SnyderTalk Comment: Likening ISIS to Israel is insane.  I won’t even bother to present reasons why.  It’s so obvious that anyone with any sense and a little understanding doesn’t need to be told.

Hedges’ statement demonstrates a lack of knowledge that is breathtaking.  It’s as far off the mark as saying that the moon’s crust is made of Swiss cheese.  If Hedges made a statement like that, I guarantee you that NASA would withdraw an invitation to speak.

Hedges’ invitation to speak at the University of Pennsylvania was rescinded because he was supposed to be speaking about the Israel-Palestinian issue.  He’s an ideologue with an agenda to sell and nothing more.  If he wants to spread his manure, he should seek audiences that are predisposed to anti-Semitism.  The Ku Klux Klan comes to mind.  They would probably welcome him with open arms.

Israel isn’t perfect.  No nation is.  Criticizing Israel is fair game, but making up and promoting off-the-wall comparisons is not acceptable.

The “Israel lobby” is not responsible for Hedges’ absurd remarks.  Many anti-Israel speakers, in fact too many, are invited to address audiences at big universities in the U.S.  That’s a fact.  Hedges has only himself to blame.

Isi Leibler: Ron Prosor’s Amazing, Stirring Speech at the United Nations— Mr. President, I stand before the world as a proud representative of the State of Israel and the Jewish people. I stand tall before you knowing that truth and morality are on my side. And yet, I stand here knowing that today in this Assembly, truth will be turned on its head and morality cast aside. The fact of the matter is that when members of the international community speak about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a fog descends to cloud all logic and moral clarity. The result isn’t realpolitik, its surrealpolitik. The world’s unrelenting focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is an injustice to tens of millions of victims of tyranny and terrorism in the Middle East. As we speak, Yazidis, Bahai, Kurds, Christians and Muslims are being executed and expelled by radical extremists at a rate of 1,000 people per month. How many resolutions did you pass last week to address this crisis? And how many special sessions did you call for? The answer is zero. What does this say about international concern for human life? Not much, but it speaks volumes about the hypocrisy of the international community.

SnyderTalk Comment: The U.S. should cut off funds for the U.N. and ask them to establish residence in another country.  I’m not kidding.

If the U.N. ever becomes a true governing body, the world will suffer like never before.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 42: 1-5

1 Now Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, and Jacob said to his sons, “Why are you staring at one another?” 2 He said, “Behold, I have heard that there is grain in Egypt; go down there and buy some for us from that place, so that we may live and not die.” 3 Then ten brothers of Joseph went down to buy grain from Egypt. 4 But Jacob did not send Joseph’s brother Benjamin with his brothers, for he said, “I am afraid that harm may befall him.” 5 So the sons of Israel came to buy grain among those who were coming, for the famine was in the land of Canaan also.

SnyderTalk Comment: Read His Name is Yahweh.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
