Israel and Jews are not the problem.  The intellectual left and anti-Semites are the problem.

Anti-Semites are quick to say that Jews run the world and that they are responsible for every problem known to mankind.  They must have taken their cue from Adolf Hitler, because that’s what he thought, too.

A former student of mine who is Jewish became a SnyderTalk reader.  A while back, he emailed me and asked if I knew that many religious Jews in the United States including some rabbis don’t support Israel.  I told him that I did and that Israel would welcome them with open arms if they were ever in trouble.

Many religious Jews in Israel don’t have jobs.  Their “education” focuses on studying the Talmud and other religious writings.  Thus, they aren’t prepared for real work.  They raise large families on the public dole and handouts from unsuspecting tourists.  Many of them don’t support Israel, either.  Recently, Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) Jews in Mia Shearim, a neighborhood in Jerusalem, have started physically attacking members of their own group who dare to join the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), because that’s against their religion.

The vast majority of Jewish people in Israel are the salt of the earth.  They work hard (harder than they should) and are some of the most creative people on the planet.  Warren Buffett and other business leaders know it and they invest heavily in Israel.  When Israeli people aren’t working and raising families, they fight to defend their country including Haredi Jews who despise them.

Most of the Israeli Jews that I know are not “religious” as Haredi Jews define it.  They observe Shabbat (the Sabbath); they celebrate the High Holy Days; and they have a deep-seated longing for their Creator, but they don’t adhere to the man-made traditions that religious Jews in Israel embrace.

Yahweh does not condone those traditions.  Take a look at what He said:

  • “I hate, I reject your festivals, nor do I delight in your solemn assemblies. Even though you offer up to Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them; and I will not even look at the peace offerings of your fatlings.  Take away from Me the noise of your songs; I will not even listen to the sound of your harps.  But let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.” (Amos 5: 21-24)
  • “Because this people draw near with their words and honor Me with their lip service, but they remove their hearts far from Me, and their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote, therefore behold, I will once again deal marvelously with this people, wondrously marvelous; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the discernment of their discerning men shall be concealed.” (Isaiah 29: 13-14)
  • “How can you say, ‘We are wise, since we have Yahweh’s Law?’ Look how it has been falsified by the lying pen of the scribes!  The wise men are put to shame, alarmed, caught out because they have rejected Yahweh’s Word.  What price their wisdom now?” (Jeremiah 8: 8-9)
  • “‘But as for you, you have turned aside from the way; you have caused many to stumble by the instruction; you have corrupted the covenant of Levi,’ says Yahweh Sabaoth. ‘So I also have made you despised and abased before all the people, just as you are not keeping My ways but are showing partiality in the instruction.’” (Malachi 2: 8-9)

Specifically, Yahweh was talking about the most religious Jews of all, priests who descended from Levi.  Jeremiah went so far as to blame them for all of the hardships inflicted on the Jewish people:

“The shepherds (i.e., the priests) are the ones who have been stupid: they have not searched for Yahweh.  This is why they have not prospered and why their whole flock has been dispersed.” (Jeremiah 10: 21)

If that surprises you, take a look at what Yahweh told Ezekiel:

Son of man [Ezekiel], prophesy against the shepherds [the priests] of Israel. Prophesy and say to those shepherds, “Thus says Adonai Yahweh, ‘Woe, shepherds of Israel who have been feeding themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flock? You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fat sheep without feeding the flock. Those who are sickly you have not strengthened, the diseased you have not healed, the broken you have not bound up, the scattered you have not brought back, nor have you sought for the lost; but with force and with severity you have dominated them. They were scattered for lack of a shepherd, and they became food for every beast of the field and were scattered. My flock wandered through all the mountains and on every high hill; My flock was scattered over all the surface of the earth, and there was no one to search or seek for them.’”

Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of Yahweh: “As I live,” declares Adonai Yahweh, “surely because My flock has become a prey, My flock has even become food for all the beasts of the field for lack of a shepherd, and My shepherds did not search for My flock, but rather the shepherds fed themselves and did not feed My flock; therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of Yahweh: ‘Thus says Adonai Yahweh, “Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will demand My sheep from them and make them cease from feeding sheep. So the shepherds will not feed themselves anymore, but I will deliver My flock from their mouth, so that they will not be food for them.”’”

For thus says Adonai Yahweh, “Behold, I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out. As a shepherd cares for his herd in the day when he is among his scattered sheep, so I will care for My sheep and will deliver them from all the places to which they were scattered on a cloudy and gloomy day. I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries and bring them to their own land [the Promised Land or Israel]; and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the streams, and in all the inhabited places of the land. I will feed them in a good pasture, and their grazing ground will be on the mountain heights of Israel. There they will lie down on good grazing ground and feed in rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. I will feed My flock and I will lead them to rest,” declares Adonai Yahweh. “I will seek the lost, bring back the scattered, bind up the broken and strengthen the sick; but the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them with judgment.” (Ezekiel 34: 2-16)

That’s exactly what we are witnessing right now.  Yahweh is calling His people out from among the nations and bringing them back to the land that He promised to give them.  Nothing and no one can prevent it from happening, and anyone who tries to stop it is taking sides against Yahweh.

I thought about these things when I read David Harsanyi’s op-ed in the New York Post titled “Is Israel good for the Jews?”:

Is Israel good for the Jews?

For vast majority of Americans — and certainly for most Jews — the answer is a no-brainer. But on the intellectual left, a place where nationalism and religion are viewed with suspicion, it’s not as simple.

So when Richard Cohen, long-time columnist at The Washington Post, led a 2006 op-ed with the line, “The greatest mistake Israel could make at the moment is to forget that Israel itself is a mistake,” he was stunned by the reaction.

It wasn’t just the “disquieting” applause he received from the occasional anti-Semite or conspiracy theorists. What troubled him most were the congratulations he heard from his friends, colleagues and acquaintances. What was it about Israel?

The views of the intellectual left (Jewish people and rabbis included) and anti-Semites dovetail perfectly when it comes to Israel.  In their world, Israel is the problem, but that’s not how Yahweh sees it.  Jewish people in Israel are exactly where Yahweh wants them to be—in the Promised Land.  They have been experiencing His Divine protection since 1948, and they will continue to experience His protection until He returns.

Israel and Israeli Jews are not the problem.  The intellectual left and anti-Semites are the problem.

While Jewish people in Israel fight for their survival, they find time to discover cures for diseases, write great literature, compose great music, and create new technology.  The things they do have been blessings to all of mankind.  That’s not an accident.  That’s the way Yahweh expects it to be.

The two greatest gifts that Yahweh has given the world are the Messiah who was born a Jew and Jewish people in general, particularly those in Israel.  They are there because Yahweh brought them there.  That’s what He said, not me.

Fox News: Ambassador Power touts international support against Islamic State but won’t name countries, commitments—The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations said Sunday that the American-led effort to destroy the terror group Islamic State has support from more than 40 countries, but declined to name them or the extent of their support. “It’s up to the individual country,” Ambassador Samantha Power told ABC’s “This Week.” France last week joined the United States in airstrikes against Islamic State targets in Iraq, and Saudi Arabia has offered to help train moderate anti-Islamic State group fighters. However, what remains unclear is whether Turkey and such Arab States as Egypt and Qatar will join in the airstrikes, also pending in Syria, or send combat troops in join Iraqi forces in the fight against Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL.

Mark Burr: The Middle East ‘Black Revolution’— In the Fall of 2010, liberals in many Middle Eastern countries wanted a ”Color Revolution,” like other countries had in the previous decade. Yet, in the Fall of 2014, the dominant color that splashes all over is black. The black color of the growing jihadist movement, the ISIL. But in the Fall of 2010, Iraq had a new government in place. The Iraqis were still proud of their 2005 referendum of a free people–men and women of every sect and faith–who then, for the first time voted for their constitutionally elected government and raised a purple finger, as a symbol of what they called the The Purple Revolution.

IMRA: FM Liberman to US Secretary Kerry: just as we cannot negotiate with ISIS, we cannot negotiate with Hamas— FM Liberman: Ultimately, the aim of all Islamic terror is one and the same: the destruction of Western civilization. Hence, just as we cannot negotiate with ISIS, we cannot negotiate with Hamas. (Communicated by the Foreign Minister’s Bureau) Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman met on Wednesday evening (17 September 2014) in Washington D.C. with US Secretary of State John Kerry. Minister Liberman told Secretary Kerry that Israel deeply appreciates America’s support during Operation Protective Edge and that the Israeli leadership and people know that the United States is Israel’s greatest friend. FM Liberman asked Secretary Kerry to have the State Department’s travel warning to Israel changed in the wake of the end of Operation Protective Edge, so that American citizens will know that there is no reason not to visit Israel, and they will not be in any danger.

Shalom Bear: Hundreds Dead & Missing in Hamas Human Trafficking Ring— On Sunday, one of our bloggers, JoeSettler, first reported on a human smuggling ring that helps smuggle Gazans out of Gaza and into Europe, via the Sinai and Egypt. In the past week, three boats carrying hundreds of Gazans, as well as some Syrian refugees sunk on the way to Italy. One Gazan survivor reported that their boat was deliberately sunk by rival Egyptian human traffickers. Today, Israel’s Reshet Bet reports that Fatah (the Palestinian Authority) is claiming that Hamas runs the Gazan side of this human trafficking ring, charging between $2000 to $3500 for each person they allow out.

Soeren Kern: Britain’s Female Jihadists— Great Britain is now the leading European source of female jihadists in Syria and Iraq. As many as 60 Muslim women between the ages of 18 and 24 are believed to have left Britain to join the jihadist group Islamic State [IS] during the past twelve months alone, according to British terrorism analysts. Dozens more have inquired about joining IS since the beheading of American journalist James Foley in Syria in August 2014 set off a frenzy of enthusiasm within jihadist circles. Many of the women seem to be motivated by the hope of finding a jihadist husband, analysts say, apparently because they covet the cultural and religious “prestige” conferred upon Muslim widows whose husbands have died as “martyrs” for Allah. Until recently, most of the British women affiliated with IS have been restricted to performing domestic chores such as cleaning and cooking. Lately, however, some women have become restive and have demanded a greater role in the IS enterprise.

Guy Kelner: Winning the ratings war— How does an anonymous terrorist organization become a household name and topic of conversation, recognized as the world’s “newest” threat to Western civilization, in just a matter of weeks? Well, the Islamic State group learned the rules of the Western media game, and beyond its unbridled terrorism, the group employs some very sophisticated public relations people who know how to create a huge impact with a small amount of money. The successful branding of Islamic State’s horrors includes several primary elements: Every terrorist act is perpetrated according to a set media code, employs a unique advertising language assuring the group stands apart and is easily identifiable in the media, with visibility, flair, and through repetitious images produced in precisely the same manner.

Lauren Roth: Can God Love Me?— Dear Lauren, I don’t know how to move past the guilt I feel for what I’ve done wrong, for the areas I continue to stumble in, and for being in a “lower” place than I was last year, despite having really tried to do my best. I don’t know how to get past this feeling. And I know I’m supposed to be using this time of year to feel closer to God, but I don’t know how to feel or believe that God loves me despite my not being where I’m supposed to be. I was wondering if you had any suggestions. Lauren Roth’s Answer: Well, you certainly are hard on yourself! I’m not really sure God is as hard on you as you are on yourself. And I think that’s your key to real redemption. Because you need redemption from your own harshness before you can feel God’s love for you. And believe me, He does love you. If you have any doubts, just look around: do you see colors? Yes? That’s God showing He loves you. Do you smell any nice smells? Yes? That’s God showing He loves you. Have you eaten any good-tasting foods in the last day/week/month/year/life? Yes? That’s God showing He loves you. Do you have any friends or family or people in your life that you like? Ditto! Are you currently breathing?? Ditto! Do you have any constant debilitating pain right now? No? That’s God showing He loves you.

Dave Bender: Fears of Violence in Mixed Areas as Jewish, Muslim Holidays May Collide in Once in 30 Years Occurrence— In the wake of a summer wracked by Arab-Jewish violence within Israel, in Gaza, and in the West Bank, security and local authorities in mixed Jewish Arab areas are bracing for a potential “perfect storm”: the solemn Jewish Yom Kippur fast and the festive Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday – falling on the same day, Israel’s Walla News reported Sunday. While leaders in mixed–populace cities like Jerusalem, Jaffa, Acco, Ramle, Haifa, Nazareth and elsewhere are trying to convey a message of reconciliation, the fact the two observances have such different characteristics makes that difficult: Yom Kippur involves 24-hours of fasting, prayer and introspection, while Eid al-Adha is a family celebration in which lambs are routinely publicly slaughtered for a feast.

Irwin Cotler: Rouhani’s Record Reveals Nothing Has Changed in Iran— While Iranian President Rouhani pledged to usher in a new era of human rights for Iranians, the person held out as a “moderate” has presided over a regime that continues to engage in massive repression. As nuclear negotiations continue, so does the systematic and widespread violation of human rights in Iran. While negotiations respecting Iran’s nuclear weaponization program resume this week, they should neither overshadow nor sanitize the regime’s ongoing abuses. What follows is an overview of some of the serious human rights violations in Iran that serve as a litmus test for the authenticity of Rouhani’s commitment to human rights for the Iranian people.

Elliott Abrams: Danger ahead in Bahrain— It has been a while since I wrote about Bahrain, because I’ve always been hopeful that this ‎or that piece of bad news was transitory and that reason would prevail. I’m losing hope.‎ The basic situation has been clear for several years: The majority of the population, which is ‎Shia, feels deprived of political rights by the royal family, which is Sunni. There have been ‎several efforts to come up with a compromise, especially after the Arab Spring began in ‎‎2011. But as The Economist wrote last December, “Human-rights organizations warn that ‎the situation is deteriorating. Two years after an even-handed report by the Bahrain ‎Independent Commission of Inquiry — a laudable effort by King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa — ‎few of its recommendations have been implemented.” That article was titled “Trouble ahead: The government is poisoning the well.” Sure enough, the so-called “national ‎dialogue” launched in February 2013 got nowhere and was suspended in January 2014.‎

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 31: 1-7

1 Now Jacob heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, “Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s, and from what belonged to our father he has made all this wealth.” 2 Jacob saw the attitude of Laban, and behold, it was not friendly toward him as formerly. 3 Then Yahweh said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you.” 4 So Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to his flock in the field, 5 and said to them, “I see your father’s attitude, that it is not friendly toward me as formerly, but the God of my father has been with me. 6 You know that I have served your father with all my strength. 7 Yet your father has cheated me and changed my wages ten times; however, God did not allow him to hurt me.”

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
