Irwin Cotler—UN Human Rights Council Inquiry Is Tainted at the Core:

The International Commission of Inquiry established by a special session of the UN Human Rights Council – now known as the “Schabas inquiry” after its appointed chair, Prof. William Schabas – is not only “tainted at the core,” as I wrote of its predecessor Goldstone inquiry, but also partakes of a pernicious tripartite bias.

First, the resolution giving birth to the inquiry presupposes Israeli guilt, condemning “in the strongest possible terms, the widespread, systematic and gross violations of international human rights and fundamental freedoms arising from the Israeli military operations in the occupied Palestinian territory.” It is thus an Alice in Wonderland resolution, where the conviction and sentence are secured before the inquiry begins.

Second, and astonishingly so, the biased commission mandate not only presupposes Israeli criminality – which it references 18 times in the resolution itself – but it makes no reference at all to the Hamas spectrum of war crimes and crimes against humanity, let alone its ongoing terrorist war of attrition, during which it has launched 10,000 rockets targeting Israeli civilians since 2007.

SnyderTalk Comment: The U.N. is corrupt to the core, not just tainted.  Expecting the UN Human Rights Council to be any different makes no sense.

Abigail R. Esman: Where Did IS Come From?— The simple answer – and the one you’ll hear most often – is that IS, or Islamic State (formerly ISIS) emerged out of al-Qaida, gathering strength through the ongoing civil war in Syria and unrest in Iraq. But that’s only part of the story: the rest is based in Europe (and even in America), where governments have continually – if unwittingly – financed programs that breed radicalization in Muslim communities there. Now, more and more of those radical Muslims, most born and bred in the West, are joining IS and its jihad; and in their efforts to prevent it, Europe’s leaders in particular may in fact be strengthening the threat.

Shlomo Cesana, Reuters and Israel Hayom Staff: PM: Fight ISIS, but don’t neglect Iran nuclear threat— As U.S. President Barack Obama lays out his plan to combat Islamic terrorism, Israel is reminding the world that it, too, could become a target for extremist groups. “Al-Qaida is on our border on the Golan Heights, Hezbollah is in the north, and ISIS [the Islamic State group] is coming closer from both the east and the north,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday at an international anti-terrorism conference hosted by the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya. He said a schism was developing in the Middle East.  “Old hatreds — Shiite against Shiite, but primarily Shiite against Sunni, Sunni against Sunni — all come bursting from subterranean layers of history and frustration. And they all have one common goal. The goal is [to] establish a new Islamist dominion, first in the Middle East and in their warped thinking, throughout the world,” Netanyahu said.

Khaled Abu Toameh: Why Many Arabs and Muslims Do Not Trust Obama— Many Arabs and Muslims identify with the terrorists’ anti-Western objectives ideology; they are afraid of being dubbed traitors and U.S. agents for joining non-Muslims in a war that would result in the death of many Muslims, and they are afraid their people would rise up against them. Many Arab and Muslim leaders view the Islamic State as a by-product of failed U.S. policies, especially the current U.S. Administration’s weak-kneed support for Iraq’s Nuri al-Maliki. Some of these leaders, such as Egypt’s Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, consider the U.S. to be a major ally of the Muslim Brotherhood. Sisi and his regime will never forgive Obama for his support for the Muslim Brotherhood. Also, they do not seem to have much confidence in the Obama Administration, which is perceived as weak and incompetent when it comes to combating Islamists.

Elliott Abrams: Obama gives himself an ‘A’— There is too much to say about the speech given by U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday to fit in one blog post, but a couple of items are worth noting. I was struck by the president’s unacknowledged turnaround on the Syrian rebels. Just weeks ago, the notion that they might be worth helping was a “fantasy.” Here is an excerpt from the Thomas Friedman interview of Aug. 10: “With ‘respect to Syria,’ said the president, the notion that arming the rebels would have made a difference has ‘always been a fantasy. This idea that we could provide some light arms or even more sophisticated arms to what was essentially an opposition made up of former doctors, farmers, pharmacists and so forth, and that they were going to be able to battle not only a well-armed state but also a well-armed state backed by Russia, backed by Iran, a battle-hardened Hezbollah, that was never in the cards.'”

Alan Dershowitz: Terror Tunnels: The Case for Israel’s Just War Against Hamas— Hamas quickly produces photographs of dead babies to be shown around the world, while at the same time preventing the media from showing its rocket launchers in densely populated areas. Unless Hamas’s “dead baby strategy” is denounced and stopped — by the international community, the media, the academy and all good people — it will be coming soon “to a theater near you”. If Hamas’s dead baby strategy works, why not repeat it every few years? And why shouldn’t other terrorist groups, like ISIS and Boko Haram, adapt this strategy as Hezbollah has already done?

Peter Martino: Will The New European Commission Be Less Biased Against Israel?— A new European Commission will be installed on November 1 as the European Union’s executive body for the next five years. The previous Commission, headed by the Portuguese politician José Manuel Barroso, will be replaced by one led by Jean-Claude Juncker, former Prime Minister of Luxemburg. Unfortunately, there is no indication that the new Commission will be less biased in its attitudes against Israel than the old one.

Stephanie Butnick: Anti-Semitic Incidents Double in France— According to a French watchdog organization, anti-Semitic incidents so far this year have just about doubled since last year. The group, known as SPCJ, announced an astonishing increase in the amount of acts committed in France in the first seven months of 2014 as compared with the same time span in 2013, JTA reports. Notably, that time period includes much of Israeli operation in Gaza, which stoked anti-Israel—and often anti-Semitic—sentiment around the world. From Jan. 1 to July 31, SPCJ documented 527 anti-Semitic incidents compared to 276 in the same period of 2013, the security service reported in a statement Thursday. In all of last year, SPCJ documented 423 incidents. The bulk of the 91 percent increase this year, SPCJ wrote, “is attributable to a particularly large increase of 126 percent in the ‘violent acts’ category” and “to peaks that corresponded with the anti-Israel protests” of Israel’s conflict with Hamas in Gaza this summer.

Steven Emerson: Emerson on Fox with Judge Pirro on How the US in Manipulating the Truth on Radical IslamJudge Jeanine: And with me now the founder of the Investigative Project, Steve Emerson. All right Steve, ISIS claims to have beheaded this British hostage. Your reaction tonight. Emerson: Look, ISIS is very adept at manipulating the entire world. This is a recruitment video. It’s going to recruit a lot more jihadis from the West. There’s a reason why they’re videotaping it. There’s a reason why they’re using British or foreign jihadis to do the executions. There’s a reason why these videos recruit thousands more Western jihadis who go through Turkey, our ‘ally,’ that John Kerry just praised; an ally that refuses to allow the US to use its military bases, an ally that won’t shut down the black oil market that ISIS now gains $1.5 million a day in black oil market sales. So the reality is that our allies that the administration praises – Turkey and Qatar – are sabotaging our campaign against ISIS while the President has basically angered good allies lie Egypt, which really could be participating in a very meaningful way because it is significantly and ideologically against the Muslim Brotherhood which [ISIS] has in its origins..”

Hindy Rozenberg, as told to Yitta Halberstam: A Vision in Auschwitz— Miriam Perlstein was one of eight siblings who survived Auschwitz. It was so unusual for a family of eight – seven sisters and one brother – to emerge intact from the notorious death camp that when they landed on Ellis Island after the War, they became a media sensation. Repeatedly photographed and interviewed, they were besieged by reporters who wanted to know: How was this possible? What made you so unique? Practically everyone else’s family was decimated. Most of the survivors who limped into “The New World” had lost parents, children, spouses, siblings. But for an entire family of eight to have survived and found each other! How could it happen? “Miracles,” the siblings answered patiently to everyone who asked. And it was true. Miracles had abounded in all of their lives during their incarceration at Auschwitz, but Miriam’s, they agreed, was vastly different from those experienced by Esther, Faigy, Sima, Yitu, Monci, Binyamin, and Leishu. While their miracles fell under the realm of what could be called the rational, Miriam’s belonged to a different category altogether.

Soeren Kern: Portugal’s Jihadists— At least a dozen Portuguese nationals have joined jihadist groups fighting in Iraq and Syria, according to new estimates by Portuguese counter-terrorism officials. All of the Portuguese jihadists (ten men and two women) are under the age of 30 and most of them are children of immigrants, but so far none of the individuals is known to have returned to live in Portugal. Portuguese authorities are—for now—downplaying the threat these individuals may pose to Portugal upon their return home from the battlefields. Security analysts from Spain, however, are warning the Portuguese government against complacency. They argue that although the number of Portuguese jihadists may be small compared to other European countries, radical Muslims are becoming increasingly strident in their vows to reconquer Al-Andalus—of which Portugal is a key component—for Islam.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 29: 31-35

31 Now Yahweh saw that Leah was unloved, and He opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. 32 Leah conceived and bore a son and named him Reuben, for she said, “Because Yahweh has seen my affliction; surely now my husband will love me.” 33 Then she conceived again and bore a son and said, “Because Yahweh has heard that I am unloved, He has therefore given me this son also.” So she named him Simeon. 34 She conceived again and bore a son and said, “Now this time my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore he was named Levi. 35 And she conceived again and bore a son and said, “This time I will praise Yahweh.” Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped bearing.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
