The Time for Talking is Over

A few days ago in a SnyderTalk editorial, I asked this question: Is President Obama a liar or is he just stupid?  I wasn’t trying to be sensational.  I was serious.

In the editorial, I pointed out that last Wednesday night the president missed the mark in his description of ISIS (or IS or ISIL) so completely that he failed to convey the simple facts, and the facts really are simple:

  1. Islamist terrorists have declared war on the non-Islamic world.
  2. They are busily doing exactly what they said they would do.
  3. They brutalize every man, woman, and child in their path including Muslims who aren’t as brutal as they are.
  4. ISIS focuses most of its talk on the U.S. and Israel, but it is killing mostly Muslims in Syria and Iraq.
  5. ISIS is enlisting support from jihadists the world over, but their recruits come mostly from Europe and Middle Eastern Muslim nations.
  6. ISIS has extended its reach to Latin American and the U.S. thanks to negligent enforcement measures by U.S. government officials in the Obama administration.
  7. Jihadists in the U.S. who didn’t come here by government invitation are infiltrating our country with other illegal aliens.
  8. We are at war right now, but Obama doesn’t realize it or he won’t admit it.
  9. Some say that the president knows it and wants to see the U.S. take a beating. Maybe they are right.  His actions so far can lead a reasonable person to that conclusion, but I’m not convinced yet.
  10. I do know this, though: he instigated this mess in 2009 and he has done nothing significant since then to deal with the problem that he created.
  11. Israel is the frontline in the fight with Islamist terrorists of all stripes.
  12. Hamas is just like ISIS and Fatah is not much better.
  13. Even so, Obama is pressuring Israel to agree to the creation of a Palestinian state that would be run by people whose stated purpose is to destroy Israel.
  14. The only thing that matters more to Hamas and Fatah leaders than destroying Israel is stealing as much money as they can while they can.

That’s it.  As I said, it’s not complicated.

President Obama’s tepid leadership has made things worse, not better.  For instance:

The West is a ship without a rudder or a captain at the helm.  President Obama has failed to do the job that we elected him to do—twice.  Untold numbers of innocent people have been killed by ISIS, but it didn’t matter to our president.  It took two gruesome videos of ISIS beheading Americans to get his attention.

Obama’s incompetence is embarrassing and dangerous for us and for the rest of the world.  The longer we wait to get serious, the more difficult it will be to eliminate the ISIS threat.  ISIS won’t lay down its arms voluntarily, and it will grow stronger each day until we deal with it on the field of battle.

Those are facts.  Wishing, hoping, and singing Kumbaya will not change them.

John Rossomando: Muslim Leaders Insist Islamic State Not Islamic— More than a dozen American Muslim leaders condemned the Islamic State’s (IS) brutal tactics as contrary to Islam Wednesday during a press conference held at the National Press Club. But in doing so, several speakers urged the public to ignore the terrorist group’s theological motivations. Talib Shareef, imam of Masjid Muhammad in Washington, D.C., exhorted the media to refer to IS as the “Anti-Islamic” State because its actions run contrary to the teachings of Mohammed. “This is not an Islamic State of being; it’s not an Islamic State of mind; and it’s not an Islamic State that the prophet himself created in his first state, where he saw this beautiful peace and equality for all religions – Jews, Christians that were there with him,” Shareef said, noting what Muslims call the Medina Charter.

Jerold Auerbach: When is an Islamic State Not Islamic?— In his nationally televised speech on the eve of the anniversary of 9/11, President Obama pointedly declared: “The Islamic State [ISIL] is not Islamic.” If the President’s verbal acrobatics sounded familiar they were. And not only because he was echoing Humpty Dumpty’s familiar aphorism: “When I use a word it means just what I choose it to mean – neither more nor less.” In his memorable Cairo speech in June 2009, the new president referred to “a time of great tension between the United States and Muslims around the world.” Citing 9/11 he identified “violent extremists . . . in a small but potent minority of Muslims” who have “exploited these tensions.” That horrific attack “has led some in my country to view Islam as inevitably hostile not only to American and Western countries, but also to human rights.” Indeed it had, quite justifiably so.

Kristina Wong: ISIS is spreading, experts warn— Experts say the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is spreading to other countries and inspiring terrorist groups toward greater acts of brutality. ISIS gained global attention in August by beheading two American journalists and is quickly gaining new followers, including al Qaeda’s most dangerous affiliate. In a page directly from ISIS’s playbook, members of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) last month captured 14 unarmed Yemeni soldiers, beheaded them, and then publicized the bloodshed by posting photos and videos online, according to local news reports. Jalal Baleedi, an influential field commander in the group who supports ISIS, ordered the executions on Aug. 9. Experts said the public beheadings are unprecedented for AQAP and provide a clear indication that ISIS’s tactics have spread to Yemen.

Simon Jacobson: 9/11: 13 Years Later, What Will It Take for Us to Grow Up?— Va’yigdelu Ha’neorim — the boys grew up — Genesis (Toldot) 25:27. Thirteen years is a milestone. At that bar-mitzvah age one attains a level of maturity that should allow us to see things with deeper clarity. But have we grown up over the past 13 years since the attacks of 9/11?

Alan M. Dershowitz: Terror Tunnels: The Case for Israel’s Just War Against Hamas – Chapter 1— President George W. Bush’s announcement in 2001 to support the creation of a Palestinian state offered a unique opportunity to Palestinians to end the violence and begin building a new future. Hamas’s response came a few weeks later, when it fired the first Qassam rocket into the Israeli town of Sderot, population approximately 20,000. It was only after Hamas’s coup in June 2007, and the heavy rocket attacks that followed, that Israel imposed more extensive sanctions on Gaza. Palestinian rocket attacks against Israeli civilians were not a response to Gaza’s increasing isolation, but the cause. The sanctions imposed on Gaza — not only by Israel, but the world — were the direct result of Hamas’s refusal to meet the international community’s basic, reasonable demands: stop terror, recognize Israel, and respect previous agreements. Hamas and its fellow terrorist organizations deny the right to live in peace. The Goldstone Report not only falsified the past; it had a negative influence by encouraging Hamas to repeat its own double war crimes: firing rockets at Israeli civilians from behind Palestinian human shields — and killing and kidnapping Israeli civilians and soldiers through its terrorist tunnels.

Evelyn C. Gordon: ‘Occupation’ and Anti-Semitism— A Yale University chaplain recently resigned “on his own initiative” over a letter to the New York Times blaming Israel and the Jews for anti-Semitism. Clearly, nothing Israel does or doesn’t do justifies attacks on Jewish citizens of other countries, but even if it did, Rev. Bruce Shipman’s reasoning would have been fallacious. According to Shipman, “the best antidote to anti-Semitism would be for Israel’s patrons abroad” to pressure Israel “for final-status resolution to the Palestinian question.” Yet based on the evidence, the Israeli policy change most likely to reduce anti-Semitic outbreaks isn’t ending its “continuing occupation of the West Bank,” but reoccupying evacuated Gaza.

Burak Bekdil: Turkey’s Frankenstein Monster— It all began when Turkey’s leaders thought they could build a Sunni belt under Turkish hegemony, and resting geographically under the Crescent and Star. For that to actually happen, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq had to be ruled by Sunni — preferably Muslim Brotherhood-type — leaderships subservient to Ankara. This Turkish gambit came at a time when the turbulent Middle East was even more turbulent than it always is: the Arab Spring had unmasked a 14-century-long hatred between Islam’s two main sects, a schism started by rival clans in the Prophet Muhammad’s tribe, the Quraysh. This is a feud that would survive beyond even their imagination. Syria, with which Turkey shares a 500-mile border, was sadly being ruled by a Nusayri (Syrian Alawite), an offshoot of the Shia faith. Bashar al-Assad soon became, as the Sicilians say, “a stone in (then Prime Minister, now President) Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s shoe.”

Elder of Ziyon: AP Notices That Hamas Fired Rockets From Civilian Areas as NGOs Find Excuses— Newsflash: Cutting-edge wire service AP just sort-of discovered that Hamas fires rockets from civilian areas! Two weeks after the end of the Gaza war, there is growing evidence that Hamas militants used residential areas as cover for launching rockets at Israel, at least at times. Even Hamas now admits “mistakes” were made. But Hamas says it had little choice in Gaza’s crowded urban landscape, took safeguards to keep people away from the fighting, and that a heavy-handed Israeli response is to blame for the deaths of hundreds of Palestinian civilians.

James M. Inhofe: It’s Time to Stop Putin’s Nuclear Arms Buildup— Once again, Russian President Vladimir Putin is flexing his muscles with no serious response from President Obama. Not only did Russia violate the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, signed by President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev in 1987, it did so while negotiating with the Obama administration over New START, a 2010 arms reduction treaty. The White House was at best naïve to Russian duplicity; at worst it was complicit. In October 2007, the Guardian reported that Putin was considering withdrawal from the INF Treaty. “It will be difficult for us to keep within the framework of the treaty in a situation where other countries develop such weapons systems, and among those are countries in our near vicinity,” Putin said, perhaps in a veiled reference to Pakistan and China’s midrange nuclear weapons technology.

Ari Yashar: UN: $550 Million to Gaza Despite Renewed Terror Tunnels— The United Nations (UN) and Palestinian Authority (PA) on Tuesday called for international donors to supply $550 million to the Hamas terror enclave of Gaza, despite the fact that Hamas has already restarted construction on its terror tunnels to attack Israel. The appeal seeks to repair damage caused in the 50-day Operation Protective Edge, which started in July after Hamas launched a rocket war on the Jewish state. “The scope of damage and devastation is unprecedented in the Gaza Strip,” said UN Humanitarian Coordinator James Rawley in a statement, reports AFP. “The crisis is far from over.” Rawley and PA Deputy Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa said $551 million was needed for food, clean water, healthcare and education. They did not outline what type of supervision – if any – would prevent the Hamas terror government from using the funds for more nefarious causes.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 29: 21-30

21 Then Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife, for my time is completed, that I may go in to her.” 22 Laban gathered all the men of the place and made a feast. 23 Now in the evening he took his daughter Leah, and brought her to him; and Jacob went in to her. 24 Laban also gave his maid Zilpah to his daughter Leah as a maid. 25 So it came about in the morning that, behold, it was Leah! And he said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served with you? Why then have you deceived me?” 26 But Laban said, “It is not the practice in our place to marry off the younger before the firstborn. 27 Complete the week of this one, and we will give you the other also for the service which you shall serve with me for another seven years.” 28 Jacob did so and completed her week, and he gave him his daughter Rachel as his wife. 29 Laban also gave his maid Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as her maid. 30 So Jacob went in to Rachel also, and indeed he loved Rachel more than Leah, and he served with Laban for another seven years.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
