Caroline Glick—Understanding the Israeli-Egyptian-Saudi alliance:

Hamas’s war with Israel is not a stand-alone event. It is happening in the context of the vast changes that are casting asunder old patterns of behavior and strategic understandings as actors in the region begin to reassess the threats they face.

Hamas was once funded by Saudi Arabia and enabled by Egypt. Now the regimes of these countries view it as part of a larger axis of Sunni jihad that threatens not only Israel, but them.

The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, and its state sponsors Qatar and Turkey, are the key members of this alliance structure. Without their support Hamas would have gone down with the Muslim Brotherhood regime in Egypt last summer. As it stands, all view Hamas’s war with Israel as a means of reinstating the Brotherhood to power in that country.

To achieve a Hamas victory, Turkey, Qatar and the Muslim Brotherhood are using Western support for Hamas against Israel. If the US and the EU are able to coerce Egypt and Israel to open their borders with Gaza, then the Western powers will hand the jihadist axis a strategic victory.

The implications of such a victory would be dire.

Hamas is ideologically indistinguishable from Islamic State. Like Islamic State, Hamas has developed mass slaughter and psychological terrorization as the primary tools in its military doctrine. If the US and the EU force Israel and Egypt to open Gaza’s borders, they will enable Hamas to achieve strategic and political stability in Gaza. As a consequence, a post-war Gaza will quickly become a local version of Islamic State-controlled Mosul.

SnyderTalk Comment: Glick is right: “Hamas is ideologically indistinguishable from Islamic State.”  So is the Muslim Brotherhood, al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, al Qaeda, and a host of other Islamist groups with menacing names.  I would even add Fatah to the group.

This is the bottom line: you can’t negotiate peace with an enemy whose sole purpose for being is to annihilate you.  Israel can’t; Great Britain can’t; France can’t; Germany can’t; China can’t; Russia can’t; Jordan can’t; Saudi Arabia can’t; Egypt can’t; the world can’t.  Pretending that you can only emboldens the enemy and allows them to build financial and military strength.  Confrontation is inevitable and unavoidable.

King Hussein of Jordan did exactly what he had to do in what became known as “Black September”.  See “Black September in Jordan”.  The URL is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_September_in_Jordan.

Today, Israel is doing what the world needs to do.  See “Obama Pledges ‘Relentless’ Fight Against ISIS—Why Doesn’t Israel Have the Same Right?”  The URL is http://www.snydertalk.com/?p=30039.

Contrary to President Obama’s latest “doctrine”, and I hate to use the word “doctrine” since Obama is a seat-of-the-pants kind of guy, there will be victors and vanquished.  That, too, is inevitable and unavoidable.  Which one will we be?  See “The (latest) Obama Doctrine: ‘No victor/no vanquished’” in the “Perspectives” section below.

Marc Thiessen: The (latest) Obama Doctrine: ‘No victor/no vanquished’— It’s been hard to keep up with all the Obama Doctrines that have emerged over the past five years. First, the Libyan war gave us the doctrine of “leading from behind.” Then, in Syria, we saw the birth of a new Obama Doctrine: military action “just muscular enough not to get mocked” (though, Obama backed off of even those miniscule strikes, taking that one out of contention). Then earlier this year, Obama claimed the guiding principle of his foreign policy was “Don’t do stupid shi*t.” Now, in an interview with The New York Times’ Thomas Friedman, Obama unveiled yet another Doctrine – one, he says, that guides both his domestic and foreign policies: “No victor/no vanquished.”

Naama Lansky: Is there a future for Jews in Europe?— On the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II, European Jews face a dramatic rise in anti-Semitic attacks. Jews hide their identity and talk of “worst times since the Nazi era”. Is the rising hatred a temporary spike or a terrifying trend? Eighteen-year-old Israel Deus left his home on Augsburger Strasse in the center of Berlin and began walking toward the Orthodox Tiferet Israel synagogue on Passauer Strasse. His legs carried him there on their own, having walked the short path to the synagogue countless times before, ever since he was a young child. Suddenly, he felt a powerful blow to his head. A man sitting at one of the street side restaurants noticed Deus’ yarmulke and identified him as an appropriate outlet for violent urges. The man proceeded to exit the restaurant and begin beating Deus furiously. Deus kept his wits about him and began fleeing toward the synagogue, holding his head with his hands. As he ran, his yarmulke slipped off his head and his glasses fell and shattered.

Simon Jacobson: Beheadings and Clarity— Now that the United States, Britain and the Western World have witnessed yet again – almost 13 years from 9/11/2001 – the horrifying beheading of U.S. journalist James Foley, while Israel is entangled in its war against Hamas terror – you would think that it’s high time to revisit the issues at hand and come up with a game plan. But it’s not that simple. No one likes to be rudely awakened in middle of a peaceful slumber. But like every war, the longer we wait the greater the danger. The quicker we wake up, recognize and take on the enemy the less we will have to suffer, and the faster we will vanquish those that want to hurt us.

Boaz Bismuth: Extremist Islam is at Western gates— Wake up! The West is in shock: An American journalist was beheaded in Syria by a jihadi with a British accent belonging to the ultra-extemist Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (also known as “ISIS”). A surreal international arabesque — a world that is supposed to be enlightened, at least according to the West that leads it, and certainly by the year 2014. Perhaps the gruesomely shocking death of James Foley, 40, a combat journalist and commentator who provided coverage of the horrors in Libya and Syria, finally sent the message home in the West that such vandals wander today’s Middle East. These are human beings (if it is possible to call them that at all) who, in the name of extremist and morbid religiosity, slaughter and rampage, who profane values and other cultures for the sake of the so-called Islamic Caliphate. Perhaps the Western foreigner can finally grasp this reality.

Ruthie Blum: The Foley beheading and Israel’s PR problem— The video of the beheading of American journalist James Foley went viral this week, in ‎spite of Twitter and YouTube efforts to remove it from their sites for its graphic content.‎ This is understandable, as there is an element of voyeurism involved in watching the gory ‎clip. And its mass circulation has the unintentional effect of cheapening the horror of ‎Foley’s death in an almost pornographic way.‎ However, it is precisely the chilling depiction of the slaughter that provides the world ‎with a glimpse into the nature of the Islamic State group (ISIS), the Sunni terrorist organization that is trying to ‎take over Syria and Iraq, before turning the entire region (and then the world) into an ‎Islamic caliphate.

Leon Hadar: Netanyahu may be misreading Obama’s political map—Imagine the Israelis and the Palestinians engulfed in a long and bloody war, with large number of casualties on both sides and images of death and destruction being splashed on the front pages of newspapers around the world. Large demonstrations in the Arab World blast Israel and its American ally while the Saudis, the Egyptians and other Arab governments, joined by the Soviet Union, demand that Washington “do something” ASAP to stop Israeli aggression and as American officials worry that the continuing Israeli-Palestinian conflict would result in rising oil prices and ignite Soviet diplomatic moves. Well, you don’t have to imagine such a scenario. It happened in 1982 after Israel responded to an alleged terrorist attack by the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) by attacking PLO targets as well as civilian centers in Lebanon, and eventually occupying Beirut.

Seth Frantzman: Why It’s So Easy for Liberal Jews to Judge Israel— It never fails. Whenever Israel fights a war with Hamas in Gaza, you can be sure of a few things: The world media will condemn us. Diplomats will be broadly sympathetic but will express “concern” for civilian casualties and ask that the IDF be “proportionate”. Last and probably least, some liberal American Jews will complain about how “Israel doesn’t represent them” and how Israel’s behavior “alienates” them from the Jewish State. The present round is no different. A liberal member of Young Judaea, a “Zionist youth movement in the US,” wrote in the following unpublished op-ed to a pro-Israel writer: “as a Liberal Jew I couldn’t help but feel alienation, shame and frustration reading your letter… instead of actively attempting to hush the voices that are left… you should work to uphold the Jewish and democratic values that went into making Israel… telling others to refrain from criticism jeopardizes the democratic framework of [Israel’s] forefathers… fueling a growing movement of hatred and violence in the Jewish state.”

Evelyn Markus: Dutch Official Calls ISIS “A Zionist Plot”— On Tuesday last week, Yasmina Haifi, an official at the National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism in the Netherlands, tweeted: “ISIS has nothing to do with Islam. It is a preconceived plan of Zionists who want to deliberately make Islam look bad.” For the past ten years, Ms. Haifi has been a senior staff member at the human resources department of the Ministry of Security and Justice. For the past two years she has also worked as a project leader at two of the Ministry’s subsidiaries, the National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism and the National Cyber Security Center.

Dr. Reuven Berko: Fear and loathing in Gaza— The dread of targeted assassinations has debunked the image of the fearless, death-courting Islamic militia that Hamas has been peddling relentlessly. Hamas leaders, it seems, do not relish death as much as they would have us believe. During one of Khaled Mashaal’s recent speeches in Qatar, Hamas’ leader boasted that his organization was like a swarm of mosquitoes, biting and subduing a lion despite its might. The leaders of several nations in the region, including Egypt and Jordan, Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf emirates, and several Western nations have recently realized that the Gaza Strip swamp has become home to swarms of mosquitoes that must be exterminated.

Nadav Shragai: Is the UN responsible for war crimes?— Welcome to UNRWA, the relief agency for Palestinian refugees: Rockets were fired from its facilities, rockets have been stored in its schools, and a tunnel was dug from one of its booby-trapped clinics. What do you call a humanitarian organization that uses school textbooks that teach jihad against Israel and some of whose institutions have been taken over de facto by Hamas? What is the proper description for the Gaza branch of UNRWA, whose teaching staff has been infiltrated by terrorists and operatives of terrorist groups, and whose institutions served as launching sites for rockets and mortar shells that were fired at the State of Israel? What exactly is this refugee relief agency that the U.N. established decades ago, which maintains the refugee problem and provides the Gazans with “education and welfare,” but openly avoids rehabilitating them? Well, that depends on whom you ask.

Suspects Identified in James Foley Beheading.  Below is an excerpt from the article:

“British authorities have closed in on a number of suspects in the brutal murder of American journalist James Foley, British news outlets reported Friday, after linguistics experts determined that his executioner was a London immigrant to Syria.

Three suspects have been identified in the Foley murder thus far, the Telegraph reported Friday – as the Special Air Service (SAS) waits on standby for the terrorist’s capture.

Top of the list is former National Health Services (NHS) doctor, Shajul Islam. Islam was arrested and charged with kidnapping British journalist John Cantlie in 2012, but was released after Cantlie was unable to give testimony. His medical license has since been suspended; family say they are unsure of his whereabouts, as well as those of his brother – 21 year-old Razul, who has been confirmed to have joined IS in Syria.

Media reports have also named Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary, 23, a former rapper from Maida Vale, west London, as Foley’s killer. Bary joined IS in Syria last year and later tweeted a photo of himself holding a severed head.

Linguists say Bary has a similar accent to the killer in the Foley video, which a Guardian expose revealed is a London accent masking a foreign first language; he has a similar build and skin tone, as well.

A third suspect is Aine Davis, 30, from Hammersmith, west London. Davis converted to Islam and joined jihadists in Syria last year, after reforming from life as a drug dealer and gang member; his family refused to comment.”

SnyderTalk Comment taken from a SnyderTalk Editorial— “Obama Pledges “Relentless” Fight Against ISIS—Why Doesn’t Israel Have the Same Right?”, August 20, 2014:

“It’s time for the U.S. to take a stand against Islamist extremism just like Israel took a stand against Hamas in Gaza, and I repeat just like Israel took a stand against Hamas in Gaza.  The longer we wait, the harder it will be to eradicate the problem.  That is true of Israel in its fight against Hamas terrorists, too.  The longer they wait to finish the job, the harder it will be to complete the task.

Step one for the U.S. should be to positively identify the person responsible for beheading Foley, locate him, and then send him to Allah where he belongs.  Step two should be to identify every person in his family, his social network, and his acquaintance network.  A careful investigation of them should reveal some interesting linkages.  Step three should be to follow those linkages wherever they lead.  Throughout the process, arrests should be made if evidence of complicity is uncovered.  Swift punishment should follow if anyone is found guilty.”

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 27: 1-4

1 Now it came about, when Isaac was old and his eyes were too dim to see, that he called his older son Esau and said to him, “My son.” And he said to him, “Here I am.” 2 Isaac said, “Behold now, I am old and I do not know the day of my death. 3 Now then, please take your gear, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me; 4 and prepare a savory dish for me such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, so that my soul may bless you before I die.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Isaac wanted to do something that Yahweh would not allow—bless Esau.  Remember that Esau had already traded his birthright for a meal, and Yahweh hated him for it.

Hate is a very strong word, and Yahweh said clearly that He hated Esau:

Malachi 1: 2-5: 2 “I have loved you,” says Yahweh. But you say, “How have You loved us?” “Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” declares Yahweh. “Yet I have loved Jacob; 3 but I have hated Esau, and I have made his mountains a desolation and appointed his inheritance for the jackals of the wilderness.” 4 Though Edom says, “We have been beaten down, but we will return and build up the ruins”; thus says Yahweh Sabaoth, “They may build, but I will tear down; and men will call them the wicked territory, and the people toward whom Yahweh is indignant forever.” 5 Your eyes will see this and you will say, “Yahweh be magnified beyond the border of Israel!”

Read His Name is Yahweh.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
