Lee S. Bender and Jerome R. Verlin—Israel’s Supporters Must Stop Using These 13 Phrases:

Mainstream Western media coverage of Israel is laced with expressions intentionally crafted to delegitimize the Jewish State. The good news is that these terms weren’t written in stone 3,300 years ago, but are post-Israel independence creations. By forfeiting this language, we forfeit our history. Here are 13 phrases we must stop repeating.

#1 – “West Bank:” Claims that “Judea and Samaria” is simply the “biblical name for the West Bank” stands history on its head. The Hebrew-origin terms “Judea” and “Samaria” were used through 1950, when invading [Trans]Jordan renamed them the “West Bank” in order to disassociate these areas of the Jewish homeland from Jews. The UN’s own 1947 partition resolution referred not to “West Bank,” but to “the hill country of Samaria and Judea.” This term is not shorthand for “Judea and Samaria.” Under this formulation, Jordan is the “East Bank” of the original Palestine Mandate, which was designated as the homeland for the Jewish People.

#2 – “East” Jerusalem or “traditionally Arab East” Jerusalem: From the city’s second millennium BCE origins until 1947 CE, there was no such place as “East” Jerusalem. The 19 years between when invading Jordan captured part of the city in 1948 and was ousted by Israel in 1967 was the only time in history, except between 638 and 1099, when Arabs ruled any part of Jerusalem. Palestinian Arabs have not ruled an inch of it for one day in history.  In the past three millennia, Jerusalem has been the capital of three native states – Judah, Judaea, and modern Israel – and has had a renewed Jewish majority since 19thcentury Turkish rule. Eastern Jerusalem is a neighborhood of the city that Israel reunified in 1967.

Ari Lieberman: Mr. President, Where Is Your Outrage?— In September 2011, Asher Palmer, a United States citizen and his infant son were murdered when an Arab threw a rock at the car driven by Palmer. The rock pierced the vehicle’s windshield like a missile and shattered Asher’s skull at which point the vehicle careened out of control causing the death of both father and son. Despite the horrific nature of the crime and the fact that it involved a United States citizen, there was no condemnation by the White House and no expressions of condolences to the Israeli people. On June 12, 2014 three Israeli teens, one of whom was an American citizen, were kidnapped and murdered by Arabs. It took the White House eighteen days to muster the courage to condemn the outrage and even then, the condemnation was qualified by perfunctory calls for “restraint.” Just imagine how the United States would have reacted to an atrocity that involved the harming of American citizens. The murder of four American military contractors in Fallujah in March 2004 prompted a major US invasion of that city. Calls for restraint from the White House are not only insulting; they represent the zenith of hypocrisy and moral morass.

Maurizio Molinari: Meet The Proud Mother Of Palestinian Man Accused In Death Of Israeli Teens—Amer Abu Aisheh is one of the two Palestinians that Israel accuses of having kidnapped and murdered three Israeli teens. Amer’s mother Nadia says “I am the mother of a Palestinian martyr, perhaps two because I will probably never see Amer again.” Nadia says that she is “proud and strong because of what her sons have achieved,” and wishes Amer a “victorious Ramadan,” underlining that she feels they are “respected by their people and by Allah.” For Nadia, the definition of a martyr is “one who chooses to give their life to kill the Jews,” and being victorious means “achieving this.”

Con Coughlin: Mahmoud Abbas Must Choose between Hamas and Peace—Whatever action Israel takes against Hamas, the militant Islamist movement will only have itself to blame if there is a full-scale resumption of hostilities. If Washington struggled to convince the Israelis to move to the negotiating table, its dealings with the Palestinians have proved even more problematic – especially when it became clear that Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian leader, was more interested in playing to the gallery of Arab opinion than hammering out a peace deal. Mr. Abbas’s real objective has been to harness the Palestinian cause to the wave of popular uprisings that has been sweeping the Arab world. If protesters can overthrow tyrannical regimes in countries such as Egypt and Tunisia, he believes, then surely the Palestinians must soon be able to rid themselves of their Israeli oppressors. The big question now, of whether the deepening tensions between Hamas and Israel result in a third intifada-style conflict, depends to a large extent on whether Mr. Abbas remains committed to his pact with Hamas, or responds positively to Israel’s demand that he abandon his ties with the militants, and returns to the negotiating table.

Ali Alfoneh and Reuel Marc Gerecht: The Man and the Myth: The Many Faces of Hassan Rouhani—In his turban and clerical robe, softly speaking of peace, Iran’s president, Hassan Rouhani, resembles a spiritual guide more than a modern politician. Western statesmen, scholars, and journalists have been impressed by the differences between the cleric and his predecessor: Rouhani is everything Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was not-intelligent, eloquent, elegant, sophisticated. Persian sources unavailable in English provide important insights into Rouhani’s life and thought. This material needs to be treated with care. Rouhani’s journey from dusty Sorkheh to the Office of the President has been long. He has matured, and his mentors like may even have made a pragmatist out of the once radical theologian; but pragmatism does not equal moderation.

The Economist: The Tragedy of the Arabs— A THOUSAND years ago, the great cities of Baghdad, Damascus and Cairo took turns to race ahead of the Western world. Islam and innovation were twins. The various Arab caliphates were dynamic superpowers—beacons of learning, tolerance and trade. Yet today the Arabs are in a wretched state. Even as Asia, Latin America and Africa advance, the Middle East is held back by despotism and convulsed by war. Hopes soared three years ago, when a wave of unrest across the region led to the overthrow of four dictators—in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Yemen—and to a clamour for change elsewhere, notably in Syria. But the Arab spring’s fruit has rotted into renewed autocracy and war. Both engender misery and fanaticism that today threaten the wider world. Why Arab countries have so miserably failed to create democracy, happiness or (aside from the windfall of oil) wealth for their 350m people is one of the great questions of our time. What makes Arab society susceptible to vile regimes and fanatics bent on destroying them (and their perceived allies in the West)? No one suggests that the Arabs as a people lack talent or suffer from some pathological antipathy to democracy. But for the Arabs to wake from their nightmare, and for the world to feel safe, a great deal needs to change.

Michael Widlanski: Jewish Terror and Arab Terror – Dangers and Differences— If a court confirms that Jews kidnapped and murdered a 16-year-old Arab boy, it is a dangerous shift in Jewish terror that has moral and strategic implications, because: Jewish terror, though a statistically tiny phenomenon, distracts from scores of Arab rockets on Israel, distracts from Arab riots in Israel, and distracts from  the far greater strategic threat of Arab-Islamic terror worldwide, which claims thousands of casualties annually; Jewish terror destroys Israel’s qualitative edge in morality, by reducing Jews to the aims and means of the Jew-haters; Jewish terror can sometimes even hand a strategic victory to Arab enemies.

Daniel Greenfield: Why Obama Ignored Iraq— ISIS marching through Iraq has smashed the media’s taboo against criticizing Obama’s foreign policy. Substantive discussions are taking place about why his foreign policy is such a miserable failure. And they mostly miss the point. Liberal journalists still proceed from the fallacy that there was a foreign policy debate between neo-conservative interventionists and liberal non-interventionists. These are a series of digested Bush era talking points that have no relationship to reality since Bush’s foreign policy on Iraq carried over from Bill Clinton. It’s why Hillary gets so uncomfortable when she has to discuss her vote on Iraq.

Marc Champion: Why Turkey Now Wants Iraq to Break Up— The president of Iraqi Kurdistan, Massoud Barzani, chose to announce plans for a referendum on independence today — the same day Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan picked to announce his bid to run for president. If that’s a coincidence, it’s a significant one. Officials in Erdogan’s government have indicated at least twice in recent weeks that they are willing to end Turkey’s historical opposition to the creation of an independent Kurdish state. There are several reasons, but the most urgent one is the electoral arithmetic Erdogan faces in next month’s vote. The stakes in the presidential race are especially high this time. Whoever wins Aug. 10 — and it will almost certainly be Erdogan — will become the first Turkish president elected directly rather than by parliament. With the legitimacy of a popular mandate, together with his dominance of the ruling party and the flexibility of existing laws, Erdogan would be able to turn what has been a ceremonial presidency into a powerful executive position.

Susan Warner: Presbyterian Divestment Stokes Ancient Fires— Many Christians were in shock recently when the 221st  General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (PC/USA), by a slim margin, voted to divest from three major international companies that do business in Judea, Samaria and Israel (Hewlett Packard, Caterpillar and Motorola). Assembly leaders claim the fault lies in Israel’s “illegal occupation” of Judea and Samaria (also called the West Bank) and its oppression of Palestinian neighbors. But there is a much more sinister agenda behind this action. While the PC (USA) asserts that they are not (at all) motivated by anti-Semitism and they take “no position” on Zionism, they nevertheless lay all problems in the area at Israel’s feet, blaming the so-called “illegal occupation.”  However, a recent article by NGO MONITOR has found strong evidence of underlying anti-Semitism in the PC (USA) leadership.

Jonathan S. Tobin: Hamas Reaps Benefits from Terror— The arrest of six Israeli Jews for the murder of an Arab teenager last week has largely let Hamas off the hook for its campaign of terrorism. The aberrant act of an isolated group that has been condemned by every sector of Israeli society has reinforced a narrative of moral equivalence. But Hamas’s confidence that it is profiting from the crisis that began with its kidnapping and murder of three Jewish boys last month is illustrated by the barrage of missiles it is firing on southern Israel.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 17: 1-8

1 Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, Yahweh appeared to Abram and said to him,  “I am God Almighty; walk before Me, and be blameless. 2 I will establish My covenant between Me and you, and I will multiply you exceedingly.” 3 Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying, 4 “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you will be the father of a multitude of nations. 5 No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. 6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings will come forth from you. 7 I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you. 8 I will give to you and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.”

SnyderTalk Comment: If you believe Yahweh, you can’t deny Israel’s claim to the Promised Land–all of it.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
