Lee S. Bender and Jerome R. Verlin—Four Facts That Everyone Should Know About the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict:

Most Westerners, including many Jews, are unaware of four fundamental facts about the Jewish homeland of Israel that would greatly increase their support for the Jewish State. The burden is on us to make these facts more widely known in the West.

#1 – The Jews Never Left:  Although most in the West accept that Jewish biblical history happened, most believe that upon vanquishing the Bar Kochba revolt in 135 CE, the victorious Romans “exiled” Judaea’s surviving Jews – and that Jews did not return to Israel in meaningful numbers until the late 19th ‎century Zionist movement.

Wrong. Solid evidence – Roman-Byzantine era synagogues, the Mishnah and Palestinian Talmud, Roman recognition of the Patriarch as head of the homeland’s Jews, and Jewish military and other aid to the 7th‎ century Persian and then Muslim invaders – establishes that no such “exile” occurred. Archeologists have constructed a map of 9th century Jewish communities of which we have knowledge today. The Crusaders also acknowledged the month-long courageous Jewish defense of Haifa and the fact of Jews defending Jerusalem. We have much evidence of the Jews’ vibrant presence in their four holy cities – Jerusalem, Safed, Tiberias, and Hebron – and elsewhere in Israel through the ensuing six centuries of non-Arab Mamluk and Turk foreign rule. According to scholars, this gave the Zionists’ “real title deeds.”

Abdulrahman al-Rashed: Who Is Supporting ISIS?—In the Jordanian city of Ma’an following last Friday’s prayers, 20-30 people took to the streets holding banners saluting the terrorist organization of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and announcing that their city supports what they called the state of Islam. Twitter is crowded with people who support and sympathize with ISIS. Iraqis in the areas where there’s fighting see ISIS as their savior and they haven’t yet seen the group’s hideous face. How popular is ISIS, which is more brutal than al-Qaeda itself? I think it’s unlikely that anyone has realized the truth yet, and I fear that ISIS has made it into the hearts and minds of the youth by exploiting sectarian causes and the persecution committed in the Syrian war.

Hannah Allam: Records show how Iraqi extremists withstood U.S. anti-terror efforts— The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria sprang from a largely self-funded, corporation-style prototype whose resilience to counterterrorism operations was proven by the time Abu Bakr al Baghdadi assumed command in 2010. The militant group Baghdadi inherited had in place a sophisticated bureaucracy that was almost obsessive about record-keeping. Its middle-managers detailed, for example, the number of wives and children each fighter had, to gauge compensation rates upon death or capture, and listed expenditures in neat Excel spreadsheets that noted payments to an “assassination platoon” and “Al Mustafa Explosives Company.” Income from the Sunni Muslim militants’ looting of Shiite Muslim-owned property was recorded as “spoils.”

Washington Post: Q & A with Israel President Shimon Peres—Israel President Shimon Peres arrived in Washington on Tuesday to meet with President Obama at the White House. He will receive the Congressional Gold Medal in the Capitol Rotunda on Wednesday. The 90-year-old Peres has worked with 10 U.S. presidents. He served as foreign minister, defense minister, prime minister (twice) and is now finishing his seven-year term as president, a largely ceremonial post in Israel, with lots of red carpets and wreath laying. As one of Israel’s best-known leaders, Peres sought to elevate the post and has used his presidency to advocate — unsuccessfully — for a peace deal with the Palestinians. The interview took place at the Presidential Residence in Jerusalem on Monday as Peres was packing his bags. It has been edited and condensed.

Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Office: How the Palestinian Authority Funds Terrorists: PA Grants and Salaries for Palestinian Terrorists— The Palestinian Authority (PA) is giving generous monthly stipends and large release grants to incarcerated terrorists. These convicted murderers – 78 of whom already have been released from prison by Israel in the framework of the negotiating process with the Palestinians – are receiving monthly stipends of up to nearly $3,500 and grants of up to $25,000. (Indeed, a senior Palestinian official responsible for prisoner affairs stated that the former prisoners will receive grants of up to $50,000.) In this way the PA is giving a strong financial incentive to terrorism, including through the misuse of fungible foreign financial assistance. Publically rewarding convicted murderers gives an official stamp of approval to terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians. It is a highly persuasive form of incitement to violence and terrorism. Providing financial support for terrorists not only violates basic morality, it encourages further terrorist outrages. (For example, it may tempt young Palestinians to seek an answer to familial financial difficulties through the use of violence).

National Review Editorial: Presbyterian Church Vote to Divest from Israel a Wicked Act—There are some 200 nations in the world. Many of them are very bad actors: dictatorships, terror states. And it is tiny, democratic Israel that is the focus of the world’s hostility. If Israel did not exist, the UN might not have much to do. Last year the General Assembly adopted 25 resolutions against particular countries – 21 were against Israel. Anti-Israel boycotts perpetuate two myths. The first is that the Arab-Israeli conflict is Israel’s fault, instead of the fault of people who refuse to coexist. The second is that the Arabs’ lamentable condition is Israel’s fault, instead of the fault of people who refuse to reform, liberalize, or democratize. One opponent of anti-Israel boycotts is PLO chairman Mahmoud Abbas. Maybe he could have a word with the Presbyterians? These boycotts undermine a country whose very existence is threatened every day. The Presbyterian Church (USA) has now joined a nasty and growing mob.

Ephraim Kam: The Turbulence in Iraq: The Iranian Angle— The success by ISIS in Iraq is a failure for Iran, which in recent years has become the most important and influential external actor in Iraq, particularly since the withdrawal of US forces in late 2011. Iran’s goal in Iraq was to build a weak and non-threatening but stable and unified country, dependent on Iran and led by a Shiite majority connected to Iran. To this end, Iran used its ties with many Shiite elements in Iraq, and nurtured these connections through military and financial aid. This influence had limits, but in all, there has been unprecedented Iranian involvement in Iraq, which testifies to Iraq’s weakness and the Shiites’ historic rise to power. In the context of recent developments, the possibility has been raised of US-Iranian cooperation on Iraq. However, greater Iranian involvement in Iraq, even in coordination with the United States, could increase unrest among the Sunnis. And ultimately, Iran will want compensation for cooperating with the United States, primarily in the form of an acceptable deal regarding the nuclear issue.

Reuel Marc Gerecht: No One Should Mistake Iran for a Friend—The triumph of Sunni militants in the north of Iraq doesn’t weaken Tehran’s position in that country; it fortifies it. Sunni numbers and weaponry are still woefully insufficient for urban combat in hostile territory such as Baghdad. The certain increase of Sunni terrorism in Baghdad and elsewhere will inevitably tighten the ties between the Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force and Iraqi security and intelligence services, which is an enormous, long-term plus for Khamenei’s regime. The Iranians will probably double down on their militant Sunni outreach, and reflexively try to find common ground with jihadists in anti-American rhetoric. While both sides kill each other, Sunni and Shiite radicals will surely try to outbid each other over who is the staunchest enemy of the United States.

Isi Leibler: Europe slides into a Dark Age— Recent developments signal that the prospect of Europe sliding into a new Dark Age is now a ‎horrifying reality. It is as though all the elements negating the open society have been blended ‎into a witches’ brew to undermine Europe’s liberal cultural ethos. First in line to suffer are the Jews, attacked from all sides, isolated, friendless and unable to ‎adequately defend themselves. Their greatest threat is the rabidly anti-Semitic Muslims ‎supported by anti-Semites from the far Left. This unholy alliance of religious and secular ‎extremists employs radical anti-Israelism as a surrogate for traditional anti-Semitism and is ‎now a fixture at Hezbollah and anti-Israeli demonstrations, where they wave placards and ‎shamelessly accuse Israelis of emulating Nazis.‎

Soeren Kern: British Jihadists and the UK Surveillance State—”The whole area of intercept needs to be looked at. We have got a real debate, and it is a genuine debate in a democracy, between the libertarians who say the state must not get too powerful and pretty much the rest of us who say the state must protect itself.” — Liam Fox, Former British Secretary of Defense. In his testimony, Farr defends the practice because Britain has for “many years faced a serious threat from terrorism,” especially the threat derived from “militant Islamist terrorists.” He says the practice has prevented terrorist attacks and saved lives.

Elliott Abrams: Policy around the Middle East— I’ve written two articles this past week about policy in the Middle East. In Politico, ‎the article titled “The Man Who Broke the Middle East” broadly covers U.S. President Barack ‎Obama’s Middle East policy, and begins this way:‎ “There’s always Tunisia. Amid the smoking ruins of the Middle East, there is that one ‎encouraging success story. But unfortunately for the Obama narratives, the ‎president had about as much as to do with Tunisia’s turn toward democracy as he ‎did with the World Cup rankings. Where administration policy has had an impact, ‎the story is one of failure and danger.‎

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 14: 1-12

1 And it came about in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim, 2 that they made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar). 3 All these came as allies to the valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea). 4 Twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, but the thirteenth year they rebelled. 5 In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings that were with him, came and defeated the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim and the Zuzim in Ham and the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim, 6 and the Horites in their Mount Seir, as far as El-paran, which is by the wilderness. 7 Then they turned back and came to En-mishpat (that is, Kadesh), and conquered all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, who lived in Hazazon-tamar. 8 And the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah and the king of Admah and the king of Zeboiim and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) came out; and they arrayed for battle against them in the valley of Siddim, 9 against Chedorlaomer king of Elam and Tidal king of Goiim and Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar—four kings against five. 10 Now the valley of Siddim was full of tar pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and they fell into them. But those who survived fled to the hill country. 11 Then they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food supply, and departed. 12 They also took Lot, Abram’s nephew, and his possessions and departed, for he was living in Sodom.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.

Other Books by Neil Snyder

  • Stand! is a suspense novel that exposes the lies, corruption, and greed underlying the theory that man-made CO2 emissions are responsible for global warming.  Professor Wes Carlyle and Karen Sterling, his research collaborator, carefully scan the audience for their would-be attacker—a member of the enviro-gestapo who has been following them for days.  Wes spots his man in the back of the room leaning against the wall.  Suddenly, another man in the audience steps forward and moves toward Karen at a menacing pace.  With a vicious stroke, he swings a billy club at her head.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
  • What Will You Do with the Rest of Your Life? deals with a question that every Christian has to consider: what should I do with my life?  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
  • Falsely Accused is a true story about a young woman who was accused of committing a double homicide.  It’s about a travesty of justice, and it reveals Yahweh intervening in the life of a believer to rescue her from danger in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.  Everyone will enjoy the book, but young people in particular need to read it because the mistakes made that led to the problem could have been avoided.  They were the kinds of mistakes that young people are prone to make.  As they say, forewarned is forearmed.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
