Ben Cohen—Kansas Hate Crime Didn’t Emerge From a Vacuum:

When you look at the image of Frazier Glenn Cross, AKA Glenn Miller, the shooter who cold-bloodedly murdered three Christians in a bloody eve-of-Passover spree at two Jewish community buildings in Overland Park, Kan., what do you see?

I’ll tell you what I see. The dead-eyed stare, the pasty, blotched skin and lousy teeth, the unkempt facial hair—this is exactly the kind of face we associate with anti-Semitic and racist thuggery. In the 20th century, Cross could have been a concentration camp guard, wearing his ignorant, vulgar sneer as he shoved his Jewish victims into a gas chamber, screaming barely literate, anti-Semitic epithets along the way.

As we mourn the dead, and agonize over the fact that security at Jewish institutions becomes more vulnerable when Jewish holidays draw near, we comfort ourselves by saying that such exemplary specimens of the “Master Race” as Cross are a rarity. Neo-Nazis are at the fringe of the fringe, most of them don’t have the guts to go beyond harassing their enemies on social networks, and the odd individuals who do engage in violence unfortunately have easy access to guns. What this means is that Jews and other minorities have to occasionally shoulder atrocities like the one in Kansas. It absolutely does not mean that America is an anti-Semitic country, or that such attacks are a prelude to greater persecution.

SnyderTalk Comment: I believe that Cohen is part right.  I fear that we are witnessing a surge in anti-Semitism in the U.S. and that Cross is just a part of it.

I regret that Cohen couldn’t help himself when dealing with the fact that Cross used a gun to commit his crime.  Mr. Cohen, you need to understand this fact: no one, and I mean no one, has easier access to guns and explosives than criminals.  If you are implying that Jewish people and everyone else would be safer if we outlawed gun ownership, you are wrong, and the facts prove it.  I’m not guessing and I’m not just spouting out my opinion: scientific studies conducted at many places including Harvard substantiate it.

This is my advice, Mr. Cohen: stick to what you know.

Geoffrey Norman: Christian Revival … in China— Amid the usual news stories this Easter Sunday – accounts of the president’s family attending church and the pope addressing multitudes – there is this startling and vastly hopeful headline: “China on course to become ‘world’s most Christian nation’ within 15 years.” According to Tom Phillips, writing in the Telegraph: “Christian congregations … have skyrocketed since churches began reopening when Chairman Mao’s death in 1976 signaled the end of the Cultural Revolution. Less than four decades later, some believe China is now poised to become not just the world’s number one economy but also its most numerous Christian nation.”

IBD Editorial: Emails Show Corruption At Heart Of Administration— New emails show that both the IRS and Justice Department were involved in a probe of Tea Party and other conservative groups. This is no mere scandal — it’s a major breach of the law. The newly released emails were gathered for a Freedom of Information Act request by Judicial Watch, a nonpartisan public interest law group. They show that former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner discussed with the Justice Department going after conservative groups that she believed lied about their political activities.

Bruce Thornton: The Progressive Paradigms Lost— The progressive mind functions in terms of fossilized paradigms into which every crisis and problem are fitted, no matter how many qualifying or contradictory facts are left behind. These paradigms are part of a worldview, a picture of human existence that gives it coherence and meaning, and a narrative that gives people an identity and a morality. With these paradigms we can sort out the good from the bad, the saved from the damned, the political goals we should pursue, the ones we should avoid––and who gets the power to decide.

Jonathan S. Tobin: Abbas’s Latest Bluff Shouldn’t Scare Israel—With the deadline approaching for the end of the agreed upon negotiating period between Israel and the Palestinian Authority under Secretary of State John Kerry’s peace initiative, PA leader Mahmoud Abbas continues to raise the stakes in the standoff. Abbas has demonstrated repeatedly that he has no interest in making the sort of symbolic concessions about ending the conflict and recognizing the legitimacy of a Jewish state no matter where its borders are drawn even in return for Palestinian sovereignty and almost all of the territory he has been demanding. But the fact that he has no intention of ever signing a peace deal under almost any conceivable circumstances hasn’t stopped him from continuing to pressure both the U.S. and Israel to ante up more concessions in order to keep him at the negotiating table.

Joseph Puder: Palestinian Terrorism: Funded by the EU?— In his ploy to avoid negotiations with Israel that might actually force him to make such minimal concessions as “ending the conflict” with Israel, and recognizing Israel as the “state of the Jewish people,” Mahmoud Abbas, Chairman of the Palestinian Authority (PA), can count on the European Union (EU) to support him. That support has been both financial and political. Financially, the EU has written a virtual “blank check” for the Palestinians to use with no accountability. Politically, the EU has deemed the Palestinians as “underdogs,” deserving uncritical support. In both cases, EU support for the PA has done little to advance a lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

Khaled Abu Toameh: Palestinians: “Prisoners Day”— The Palestinian Authority’s duplicity clearly has no limits. On April 17, it marked “Prisoners Day” by holding rallies throughout the West Bank in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. On the same day, a report published by Palestinians revealed that the Palestinian Authority has arrested hundreds of Palestinians since the beginning of this year. The report pointed out that the Palestinian Authority continues to torture detainees.

Christine M. Flowers: Priest’s execution in Syria should be call to action— In the hierarchy of saints, martyrs are on the highest rung of the celestial ladder, at least for me. While I love St. Bernadette with her story of mystical vision, it’s St. Maria Goretti — the child who surrendered her life to protect her purity — who animates my faith. St. Therese of Lisieux is an example of the glory we can find in small things but the Little Flower doesn’t inspire me like Joan of Arc, who died in a maelstrom of fire. And while St. Francis of Assisi with his gentle ways is a hero to our current, beloved pope, I’m drawn to St. Sebastian, a Roman soldier who paid for his conversion to Christ in a barrage of piercing arrows.

Mark Dubowitz: Why Washington Needs to Open Its Eyes to Iran’s IntentionsBarack Obama does not like to back his diplomacy with military force. He believes there should be a clear sequence of engagement: diplomacy, sanctions, more diplomacy, perhaps more sanctions, and only after all peaceful alternatives are exhausted, the possibility of force. Even then, the administration is loath to entertain such hypotheticals. This explains why economic sanctions are now the default instrument of American coercive statecraft for confronting challenges to the international order. When Russia invaded Crimea in February, Mr Obama turned to his “favourite non-combatant command” at the US Treasury Department to design targeted sanctions to increase the costs of Russian revanchism.

William R. Hawkins: The Left Renews Its Vows With Moscow— There were many on the Left in the West who lamented the collapse of the Soviet Union as much as Vladimir Putin. They saw the USSR as the main restraint on U.S. imperialism; helping to arm and support hostile Third World regimes and creating a zone of “peace” outside the reach of capitalism. The leftist view of the world did not change just because the Soviet empire disintegrated. Its motivation is still “anti-imperialist” and it has embraced every movement that has declared itself the enemy of Western civilization. The Ukrainian crisis has sparked a revival of the left-wing love affair with Moscow. What amounts to a renewal of vows in the ideological marriage of the Cold War is evident in how events are presented, with Russia again embraced for standing up to the United States and the European Union.

Michael Curtis: Did the Boycotters Hear The Good News about Israel?— In his message of April 17, 2014, Rev. Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit, general secretary of the World Council of Churches, surprisingly forgot to send Passover greetings to his many Jewish friends in Jerusalem, but he did issue a Palestinian Prisoners Day Call for churches worldwide to pray and act for justice.  In solidarity with Palestinian prisoners, the Rev. Dr. invited the member churches to call on U.N. member-states to insist that Israel end its “policy of arbitrary detention” and to abide by the standard rules for the treatment of prisoners adopted in 1955. Rev. Tveit’s invitation and his moral passion were in no way related to an individual, Issa Abd Rabbo, a Palestinian who had been released from prison in October 2013 as one of the 104 prisoners the Israeli government had agreed to release.  Israel had agreed to this in order to get the Palestinian Authority, who had insisted on it as a precondition, to come to the peace-negotiating table.

The Shrinking of David Gregory

SnyderTalk Comment: I can tell the folks at NBC what the problem is and save them a lot of time and money.  David Gregory is shilling for Obama.  It’s so obvious that even a fool can see it.

A one-sided “news” program is a joke.  At least Fox News makes an attempt to be “fair and balanced”, but regrettably, finding an intelligent and honest person to present the Obama argument is impossible.

Obama’s failings will go down in history, and Obamacare is a very small part of his problem.  He has failed domestically and internationally like no president before him.  Even so, David Gregory is one of Obama’s swooning supporters without reservation or qualification.

Most fools know when to cut and run, but Gregory continues to flash that Howdy Doody smile as he tries desperately to bring people around to the Obama perspective.  He should pay more attention to the facts.  If he would do that, even he would have to admit that Obama is a colossal disaster as president.

On second thought, I’m reminded of Ron White’s famous line: “You can’t fix stupid.”

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 2: 23-25

23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man.” 24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one [echad] flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
