Josh Rogin—Kerry Warns Israel Could Become ‘An Apartheid State’:

The secretary of state said that if Israel doesn’t make peace soon, it could become ‘an apartheid state,’ like the old South Africa. Jewish leaders are fuming over the comparison.

If there’s no two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict soon, Israel risks becoming “an apartheid state,” Secretary of State John Kerry told a room of influential world leaders in a closed-door meeting Friday.

Senior American officials have rarely, if ever, used the term “apartheid” in reference to Israel, and President Obama has previously rejected the idea that the word should apply to the Jewish state. Kerry’s use of the loaded term is already rankling Jewish leaders in America—and it could attract unwanted attention in Israel, as well.

It wasn’t the only controversial comment on the Middle East that Kerry made during his remarks to the Trilateral Commission, a recording of which was obtained by The Daily Beast. Kerry also repeated his warning that a failure of Middle East peace talks could lead to a resumption of Palestinian violence against Israeli citizens. He suggested that a change in either the Israeli or Palestinian leadership could make achieving a peace deal more feasible. He lashed out against Israeli settlement-building. And Kerry said that both Israeli and Palestinian leaders share the blame for the current impasse in the talks.

Jeff Jacoby—Amid Holocaust Remembrance, Antisemitism Adapts and Thrives—It wasn’t a failure of Holocaust remembrance that explains why Frazier Glenn Miller opened fire outside two Jewish community facilities in Overland Park, Kan., murdering three people on the day before Passover. Miller, a 73-year-old former Ku Klux Klan grand dragon, knows all about the Holocaust – enough, at any rate, to extol Adolf Hitler as “the greatest man who ever walked the earth” and to shout “Heil Hitler!” after his arrest. Like his hero, Miller is obsessed with Jews. Asked once in an interview whom he hated more, blacks or Jews, he didn’t hesitate: “Jews!” he said. “A thousand times more!” Such anti-Semitic malevolence led 70 years ago to the Shoah – the industrial-scale annihilation of two-thirds of Europe’s Jews: six million men, women, and children, among them my father’s parents and four of his brothers and sisters. They were murdered not as a means to an end – not for their money or their land or because they posed a military or political threat – but as an end in itself.

Petra Marquardt-Bigman: The Palestinians and the Holocaust— In the past few weeks, several reports highlighted the vitriolic backlash that followed a visit by a group of Palestinian students to Auschwitz at the end of March. The controversial visit – apparently the first of its kind – was organized as part of a joint program on Reconciliation and Conflict Resolution with the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany, and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and was led by Al-Quds University professor Mohammed S. Dajani. The media reports on this visit leave little doubt that Professor Dajani reacted to the abuse and threats directed at him with admirable courage and integrity; it is also clear that he greatly inspired the students who participated in this trip. Moreover, the organizers of this program obviously had only the best of intentions. Yet, it is arguably deplorable that nobody seems to have made an effort to use this opportunity to teach the Palestinian students about the collaboration of Haj Amin al-Husseini with the Nazis. As one of the Palestinian students who visited Auschwitz reportedly noted afterwards: “It is a strange thing for a Palestinian to go to a Nazi death camp. But I would recommend the trip.”

Zeina M. Barakat: A Palestinian Student Defends Her Visit to Auschwitz—In March, I was one of 27 Palestinian students who visited the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camps with Professor Mohammed S. Dajani Daoudi. When we returned from Poland, the condemnation of our trip was deafening. Extreme Palestinian nationalists accused Professor Dajani of “selling out” to the Jews. It is impossible for me to make believe that there was no human tragedy perpetrated against millions of Jews and non-Jews during the Second World War. The Holocaust is a fact, and we all have a sacred responsibility to ensure that it never happens again to Jews or any other group. Many Palestinians link what happened to the Jews during World War II with the Nakba, the term Palestinians use to describe the events of 1948. Those who argue that the injustice Palestinians currently face is of the same magnitude as what happened to Jews in Nazi-controlled Europe are wrong. It pales in comparison to the dehumanizing horror, depravity, and evil conceived and implemented by Nazis and their collaborators.

Yoel Guzansky: Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States: Can the Six Walk Together?— The turmoil in the Arab world and concerns over Iran’s improving stature have prompted Saudi Arabia to attempt various solutions to cope more effectively with challenges at home and abroad. These efforts have included an initiative to turn the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) into a full political union. However, tensions among the GCC members make it difficult to achieve the desired union, and it would appear that the GCC is far from reaching a consensus on issues of national security. Precisely because of the challenges posed to the Gulf monarchies by the negotiations with Iran on a permanent agreement, the turmoil in the region, and the doubts concerning the US commitment to their security, it appears to be more difficult than ever for the Gulf states to present a united front.

Yair Lapid: Why I Voted in Favor of Suspending Peace Negotiations with the Palestinians—On Thursday, after an unusually long meeting of the Israeli government’s security cabinet, it was decided to suspend peace talks until it becomes clear whether or not the new Palestinian unity government with Hamas is formed. The decision, to which I was party, passed unanimously. Why? Because Hamas is a not the legitimate representative of the Palestinians, but rather a Jihadist terror organization whose express purpose is to kill and maim Jews simply because they’re Jews. I cannot understand how anyone could expect us to negotiate with a government, half of which claims to want to reach an agreement with us while the other half claims it is not bound by that same agreement. One half claims to want peace and the other half – simultaneously – shoots thousands of rockets and mortar shells on innocent civilians and rules over Gaza in a reign of Islamic terror.

Michael Rubin: Time to Rethink Basic Logic of Peace Process—The Palestinian Authority exists because the Palestinian leadership agreed to recognize Israel and foreswear terrorism. That Hamas now forms part of the Palestinian government means that the Palestinian government no longer adheres to the agreement that forms the very basis of its existence. If the Palestinians are going to absolve themselves of their contractual responsibilities, there is no reason why Israel should continue remitting payments or doing anything to facilitate the PA’s existence. If Abbas wants his partner to be Hamas, then he should pay the price for that decision.

Ron Prosor: Freedom of Worship at Holy Sites in Jerusalem—Israeli UN Ambassador Ron Prosor wrote to the UN Secretary-General on April 24 regarding “the recent campaign accusing Israel of impeding freedom of worship and denying access to religious sites….Israel respects and protects religious freedoms and grants full religious rights to people of all faiths, not a common practice in our region. After reuniting Jerusalem in 1967, Israel abolished discriminatory laws that denied Jews any access to holy places.” Regarding the riots on the Temple Mount, “the unrest was a deliberate provocation on the part of Hamas and the Islamic Movement. In a premeditated effort, extremists stockpiled rocks and explosives in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and proclaimed their intention of clashing with police and preventing visits to the Temple Mount.”

Yair Rosenberg: Abbas Did Not Shift His Position on the Holocaust—Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ 1982 PhD dissertation, published as “The Other Side: The Secret Relationship Between Nazism and Zionism,” famously argues that the Zionists collaborated with the Nazis in order to spur more Jewish immigration to Palestine. It also claims that the figure of six million dead has been exaggerated for political gain, and suggests one million as a more reasonable estimate. According to the New York Times, on Sunday Abbas called the Holocaust “the most heinous crime to have occurred against humanity in the modern era.” But he said pretty much the exact same thing to Ha’aretz in 2003: “The Holocaust was a terrible thing and nobody can claim I denied it.” In fact, Abbas has acknowledged the reality of the Holocaust for decades. He just thinks that the Jews helped perpetrate it, and he has never repudiated this stance.

Richard Cohen: Hamas Must Repudiate the Anti-Semitism in Its Charter— Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day has passed. But then, as far as I’m concerned, it is always Holocaust Remembrance Day — a perpetual and frustratingly futile attempt to come to terms with murder so vast and incomprehensible it is like pondering what came before the big bang. And yet in a corner of the world, the Holocaust is considered no mystery at all. The Jews did it to themselves to foster the creation of Israel. This is what Hamas believes. Mahmoud Abbas, the moderate Palestinian leader, has made peace with Hamas — and it with him. Abbas had earlier acknowledged the Holocaust but recently called it “the most heinous crime to have occurred against humanity in the modern era.” This sounds like a prosaic statement of fact, but coming from a man who once held the Jews complicit in their own near-destruction, it is significant. For Abbas to have elevated the Holocaust over the Palestinian Nakba — the forced and non-forced evacuation of Arabs from Israel — is an important concession.

Anna Mahjar-Barducci: Libya Urgently in Need of Military Intervention— In Libya, a descent into chaos, leading to the “disintegration of the state and its power,” seems to be reaching a critical point. “The current situation in Libya is a standing invitation for the intervention of foreign powers,” according to Saudi-owned Asharq Al-Awsat’s deputy editor-in-chief, Ali Ibrahim. Ibrahim writes that armed militias, who often enjoy the support of sectors of local populations, are committing abuses and violations of human rights, while radical Islamist groups are taking advantage of Libya’s chaos to transform the country into a home for training camps for militants. “In other words, Libya has become a security threat, with the effects extending even beyond its borders,” Ibrahim states.

Kerry Apologizes for Apartheid Comments

SnyderTalk Comment: Please pardon my skepticism, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult for me to believe anything that John Kerry says.  He has lied to the American people so often that I wonder if he even recognizes the truth.  Lying has become his modus operandi.

I’ll be sarcastic and say that Kerry is sorry his comments about Israel as an apartheid state made him look like an idiot again.  That I do believe.

Regrettably, I think Kerry is an idiot.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 4: 16-22

16 Then Cain went out from the presence of Yahweh, and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden. 17 Cain had relations with his wife and she conceived, and gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city, and called the name of the city Enoch, after the name of his son. 18 Now to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad became the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael became the father of Methushael, and Methushael became the father of Lamech. 19 Lamech took to himself two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other, Zillah. 20 Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe. 22 As for Zillah, she also gave birth to Tubal-cain, the forger of all implements of bronze and iron; and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
