Steve Apfel— The ‘Two-State Solution’ would be Israel and…?:

Not even the UN could plan for a Palestinian state before there was a Palestinian people to govern it. Just who or what will scramble for Palestine if independence ever comes we don’t rightly know.

How much the world takes for granted. Here’s Barak Obama’s envoy John Kerry blithely and mindlessly toiling ahead, thinking that if he haggles, blackmails and bribes long enough Israel will end up with independent Palestinian people for neighbours.

Kerry is not alone. Politicos everywhere buckle and scramble under furious demands to set an occupied people free and gift them a state to call their own.

The UN agenda seems to have room for nothing else. World figures slam Israel for building, or merely planning to build, new homes for Jews in the land of their forefathers. In the court of public opinion Israel stands in the dock for spiking the victim ‘Two-state Solution’ to death.

Pundits make out that world peace depends on nothing more than welcoming a new member of the United Nations. American Vice President Joe Biden insists that the Two-state Solution represents “the only chance for Mideast stability.”

As day follows night everyone takes for granted that when the colours finally flap in the breeze the Palestinian people will have a home to call their own.

Go to history oh sluggard. Consider her ways and be wise. For the two-state idea the ways of modern history point where?

David A. Harris: The Meaning of Israel: A Personal View— Against the backdrop of recent efforts in some academic circles to vilify and isolate Israel, let me put my cards on the table right up front. I’m not dispassionate when it comes to Israel. Quite the contrary. The establishment of the state in 1948; the fulfillment of its envisioned role as home and haven for Jews from around the world; its wholehearted embrace of democracy and the rule of law; and its impressive scientific, cultural, and economic achievements are accomplishments beyond my wildest imagination. For centuries, Jews around the world prayed for a return to Zion. We are the lucky ones who have seen those prayers answered. I am grateful to witness this most extraordinary period in Jewish history and Jewish sovereignty.

Dan Margalit: The next big battle— Gloom is overtaking hope in U.S. President Barack Obama’s outlook on the Middle East. The chances of solving the problems of the region — including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict — are “less than fifty-fifty,” Obama told The New Yorker magazine. If this is the case, what is there left for U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to do on the Jerusalem-Ramallah axis? It is not clear why Obama expressed such public pessimism. Does he really believe what he said? Is he creating an alibi for the expected failure of the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations? Was it a sophisticated ruse to try get both sides to summon up the strength to prove to him that his assessment of the future of the negotiations was wrong?

Khaled Abu Toameh: Palestinians vs. Pro-Palestinian Israelis— “Normalization [with Israel] is an act of treason.” — Large poster outside Ramallah peace conference. If Israelis and Palestinians are unable even to talk about peace, what would happen if and when Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas signs a peace deal with Israel? Might he, too, find himself being escorted out of Ramallah under police protection for daring to talk peace with Israel?

Ben Cohen: Three Ugly Memes About Jews and Israel— Here are three disturbing memes about Jews and Israel that I’ve noticed in three separate-but-related news stories recently. Meme Number One: “You’re Ungrateful” Here’s State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf responding to reported remarks by the Israeli Defense Minister, Moshe Ya’alon, attacking Secretary of State John Kerry. “We find the remarks of the defense minister to be offensive and inappropriate, especially given all that the United States has done to support Israel’s security needs and will continue to do,” said Harf.

Martin Goldfarb: Harper Has Injected Moral Principle into Canadian Diplomacy—When Stephen Harper became prime minister, he was determined to change the way the Canadian government makes decisions. Harper chose to support the principle that countries – including Israel – have a right to act in their own interest. While Israel often is criticized for protecting itself, even if its decisions are ethical and legal, Canada now would support these decisions on principle. At the UN, Canada had often abstained on resolutions condemning Israel. Harper changed that. Support for Israel is cited as the reason why Canada did not win a two-year term on the UN Security Council in 2010, the first time Canada had lost a bid for a Security Council seat. This may be true. Yet no Arab country has refused to do business with Canada because of Canada’s support of the Jewish state.

Ehud Yaari: Egyptian Army Gaining Against Terrorist Militias in Sinai Over the past year, Israel and Egypt have used the “Agreed Activities Mechanism” of their 1979 peace treaty to bypass restrictions on the number and type of Egyptian forces permitted in much of the Sinai. Considerable Egyptian army forces are now deployed in central and eastern Sinai in a manner and scope never envisaged by those who negotiated the treaty. This new reality on the ground is unlikely to be reversed. Israel has agreed to allow the introduction of Egyptian troops into “prohibited” regions in central and eastern Sinai, and to a steady expansion in the size and quality of military equipment. Today, Cairo regularly employs Apache attack helicopters, armored personnel carriers, and commando battalions in these areas, as well as occasional F-16 overflights, one or two tank companies, and more. The Egyptian Second Army has based its headquarters in al-Arish, in northern Sinai, while units from the Third Army have deployed in southern Sinai.

John Bell: The Baffling Politics of Stephen Harper and Israel—When one looks at official Canadian government policy towards Israel and Palestine, there doesn’t seem to be much that is outstanding. Beyond the language on UN resolutions that provide Canada with room to protect Israel, the basic pillars are all there: Two-state solution, anti-settlements, reference to UN resolution 194 for refugees, etc. Yet, everyone knows that the Canadian prime minister’s heart and soul, and his rhetoric, are firmly on one side: With Israel. “The state of Israel embodies principles that Canada values and respects,” Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird said. Earlier this week, Prime Minister Stephen Harper went on his first offical trip to Israel, as well as to the West Bank and Jordan – a journalist in Toronto remarked to me how happy the often-glum Stephen Harper seemed in the Holy Land.

Nadav Shragai: Liberate Mount Scopus— When Abdullah el-Tell of Jordan and Moshe Dayan of Israel sat down together in November 1948 to draw up the border for Jerusalem, the village of Issawiyeh fell between the cracks of the two states. Historians today are still arguing over which side of the border the village falls on. Mount Scopus, adjacent to Issawiyeh, did not fare much better as a result of the fateful meeting. It became a demilitarized Israeli enclave in the heart of Jordanian territory, where once every two weeks an Israeli supply convoy was allowed in. Today the matter is abundantly clear — Mount Scopus and the village of Issawiyeh both sit inside a unified Jerusalem, the capital of Israel. Far less clear is the actual reality of the situation. The reality has become so blurred that it often seems as if Israel is still adhering to those old maps.

Prof. Ze’ev Magen: The Iranians can smile twice— Three months ago, at the end of a widely reported and protracted saga, Western powers led by the U.S. signed a deal with Syrian President Bashar Assad, in what went down as one of the most deranged agreements in the history of diplomacy. In that deal, which was drawn up after findings pointed to Assad’s use of chemical weapons, he was essentially obligated, based on a “man’s word” — and backed, as if that wasn’t bad enough, by the word of none other than Russian President Vladimir Putin — to hand over Syria’s chemical weapon stockpiles to U.N. inspectors and agree not to keep anything else in the dark.

Alessandro Bruno: Forecast 2014: Africa— Africa is discovering a new spirit of optimism, reminiscent of the first decade of its post-colonial era. Despite inadequate infrastructure and at times even poorer governance, the continent has been attracting more and more interest from American and European investors, as well as Chinese, targeting such countries as Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Angola, Tanzania, and Rwanda to name a few. Today, half of the world’s 30 fastest-growing countries are in Africa, which is quickly losing its image of hopelessness and despair. Unfortunately, economic growth, while significant, rarely benefits the impoverished majority, even amid scenes of bustling business taking place from Dakar to Nairobi, and statistics indicating an emerging African middle class of some 150 million – which could quickly rise to 300 million by 2015, barring any ‘black swan’ events.  Politically, there is optimism as almost all 55 African countries have some kind of constitution with an active civil society that is contributing to more democratic or pluralistic political engagement. The continent’s two longest lasting internal conflicts (Somalia and Congo) persist; even if at a lower intensity, while two newer ones (Mali, Central African Republic) continue unabated. However, considering that from 1998-2003, the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo and its neighbors left some three million dead, the 2,000 registered ‘military’ deaths recorded in 2013 suggests that 2014 could be one of Africa’s most peaceful in recent history.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Zephaniah 2: 10-13

This they will have in return for their pride, because they have taunted and become arrogant against the people of Yahweh Sabaoth. Yahweh will be terrifying to them, for He will starve all the gods of the earth; and all the coastlands of the nations will bow down to Him, everyone from his own place. “You also, O Ethiopians, will be slain by My sword.” And He will stretch out His hand against the north and destroy Assyria, and He will make Nineveh a desolation, parched like the wilderness.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
