Marc Bennetts—Who’s ‘godless’ now? Russia says it’s U.S.:

At the height of the Cold War, it was common for American conservatives to label the officially atheist Soviet Union a “godless nation.”

More than two decades on, history has come full circle, as the Kremlin and its allies in the Russian Orthodox Church hurl the same allegation at the West.

“Many Euro-Atlantic countries have moved away from their roots, including Christian values,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a recent keynote speech. “Policies are being pursued that place on the same level a multi-child family and a same-sex partnership, a faith in God and a belief in Satan. This is the path to degradation.”

In his state of the nation address in mid-December, Mr. Putin also portrayed Russia as a staunch defender of “traditional values” against what he depicted as the morally bankrupt West. Social and religious conservatism, the former KGB officer insisted, is the only way to prevent the world from slipping into “chaotic darkness.”

13--Perspectives 2

#####

Virtual Jerusalem: Hebrew Article from 1924 Claimed Hitler “Favorable to Jews” Shimon Rahamim, an elderly Israeli, discovered what is perhaps the strangest newspaper article ever—an article in a Hebrew-language newspaper that called Hitler “favorable to the Jewish people.” The article, said Rahamim, is more than a historical curiosity. “It is a warning for the future,” he said. The article appeared in the Hebrew-language Doar Hayom newspaper, dated August 8, 1924. The article discusses Hitler’s role as leader of the “nationalist Germans,” and said that in an interview with a German publication, he had expressed “his warm feelings for the Jewish people.”

Ed Lasky: Dinesh D’Souza was Right about Obama— Dinesh D’Souza, the political commentator, author and movie-maker came under fire four years ago when he wrote a column for Forbes Magazine, “How Obama Thinks” that speculated President Obama saw the world as split in two: those nations who colonized and oppressed and the victim nations and people who were colonized and were the oppressed. D’Souza expanded on this theme in his blockbuster documentary 2016: Obama’s America that — despite or maybe because of — its being a huge hit was snubbed by the Academy Awards. However it did win D’Souza a federal indictment for behavior that, if proven, earned merely a misdemeanor charge when a donor to John Edwards engaged in the same alleged fundraising violation. Was D’Souza right?

David Horowitz: Atrocity— There is a human tragedy smoldering in America’s inner cities. Twelve million poor children, mainly black and Hispanic, are trapped in failing government schools that are teaching them nothing. As a result, they will never get a chance at a middle-class life. Virtually every school board and every administration in inner city districts is controlled by Democrats, and has been for over fifty years. Everything that is wrong with inner city schools that policy can fix, Democrats are responsible for.

Dexter Van Zile: Profiting From Contempt— You would think that at the dawn of the 21st century, respectable religious institutions would refrain from demonizing Israel and the Jews who claim it as their homeland. It would also be reasonable to assume that respectable churches would not tolerate or assist people who engage in that sort of thing. Instead responsible church officials would do all they could to distance themselves and the denominations they lead from people who demonize Israel. Responsible Christians would be disgusted by such behavior.

Daniel Greenfield: You Can’t Save the World— For only ten dollars a day or a month you can feed all the starving children in Africa. For only the price of a cup of coffee a year, you can make sure that no one in Kansas City ever goes hungry again. For just a third of your paycheck, you can subsidize a vast bureaucracy that will conduct studies on the best way to save the world and then come up with proposals that will only cost you half your paycheck. This misplaced philanthropic confidence is the idiot stepchild of a free enterprise society where anything can be accomplished for the right price. Do you want to build a house on the edge of a cliff? Do you want to play on every golf course in the world? Do you want to clone a dinosaur so you can hunt it?

Walid Shoebat and Ben Barrack: Obama’s Brother joins Hamas, says ‘Jerusalem is ours; We are Coming’— While in Sanaa, Yemein in 2010, President Barack Obama’s brother Malik Obama was at an event billed as the Orphans Development Fund (ODF) Conference. It’s quite the ironic title considering a group photo Malik is in that he has posted to his website. In the photo, he can be seen wearing a Hamas scarf (keffiyeh) that bears a well-known Palestinian slogan – ‘Jerusalem is ours – WE ARE COMING!’ It also includes a map of Palestine that says, ‘From the River to the Sea!’ In other words, Malik is saying, THERE IS NO ISRAEL.

Reuven Berko: The Importance of the Jordan Valley Corridor— The Israeli demand for a security presence along the Jordan River was again raised last month in the Kerry-brokered peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians. Its objective would be to stop Palestinian and global jihad terrorists from infiltrating into Israeli territory and to prevent the smuggling of rockets, explosives and other weapons which would be used by the Palestinians to attack Israel along its eastern border. The Jordan River border east of Israel becomes especially important, as the Arab Spring fades into a Winter of Chaos, creating uncertainty about future in neighboring Arab states to the east of Israel. These Arab states likely will be destabilized and their identities will change, influencing their objectives and leading to an increase in hostility and preparations for future aggression against Israel.

Ivan B.K. Levingston and Tyler S. Olkowski: Israeli General Responds to Critics of Israel’s Human Rights Record—Maj.-Gen. Yaakov Amidror, who recently stepped down as head of the Israeli National Security Council, responded vehemently against allegations that Israel commits human rights offenses. He told Harvard Hillel on Monday: “Not one of the human rights experts at Harvard are responsible for the lives of citizens anywhere in the world – when you come to real life, it’s much more complicated.” He defended the Israel Defense Forces’ practice of forcibly entering the homes of Palestinians “to prevent suicide bombings.” He also praised the strength of the relationship between Israel and the U.S.

Zachary Keck: Iran the Biggest Loser in the Syrian Civil War—No third party has been a bigger loser in Syria than Iran. The prospect of the Alawites losing power in Damascus threatened to roll back all the gains Iran made over the last decade, not only undermining Iran’s position in Syria, but also by extension in Lebanon. Over the past two years, Iran and its ally Hizbullah have been forced to devote considerable blood and treasure into preventing Alawite rule from collapsing in Syria, and the material costs for Iran are likely to continue to mount.

Jerusalem Post Editorial: Does Ashton’s Lapse Reflect EU Attitudes toward the Jewish State?—Baroness Catherine Ashton, the EU’s high representative for foreign affairs and vice president of the European Commission, issued a remarkable statement marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Monday that never mentioned Jews. The bizarre homage Europe’s spokeswoman paid to “every one of those brutally murdered in the darkest period of European history,” without any reference to their identity, strains common sense.

SnyderTalk Comment: Syria has become the training ground for al-Qaeda fighters who plan to return to their homes in the U.S. and Europe to bring the fight to us. Is that just my opinion? Hardly. That’s what they are telling us, and they mean it. We ignore them at our peril. The time for singing Kumbaya and thinking that that is enough is over. Truth is, that was never enough, but as a nation, we pretended that it was. The time for pretending is over, too.

Some have argued that there is nothing new here, that Syria has been training terrorists for decades, but I beg to differ.  There is something new.  Terrorists are poised to take control of all or part of Syria, and they won’t be under the control of the Syrian president who has diplomatic issues to consider.  That difference is huge as the leaders in Israel know.  Believers need to understand it as well.

SnyderTalk Extra on Gun Safety:

If you are a gun owner and a person with enough common sense to connect the dots, you will find this picture to be enlightening and a little scary. It’s from “The Bourne Legacy”, and it shows Jeremy Renner in one of the movie’s many over-the-top thrill scenes.

I want to draw your attention to two critical problems. The first one is the trigger fingers on the left and right hands. Notice that they are hovering beside the triggers. That is a common error made by novice shooters, and it is incredibly dangerous. The trigger finger should always be positioned above the trigger guard in a direct line with the slide (if you are shooting a semiautomatic as Renner is) until you are ready to fire.

Your trigger finger is your best and most reliable, some would say only reliable, safety. A mistake with your trigger finger can cost someone his or her life. If the positioning of the trigger finger has not become second nature to you, you aren’t ready for gun use in a defensive situation.

If you are new to gun use, this is something that you might want to consider. Keep an unloaded gun, preferably the gun you will use, near where you sit in the evenings when you unwind and play with it keeping in mind the two most basic rules about gun safety:

1.  Never point a gun, loaded or unloaded, at anything that you don’t want to eliminate.
2.  Before you do anything else, always check the gun you are holding to make sure that it is unloaded even if you “know” that it’s unloaded.

The second problem can send you to the hospital. Notice the thumb on Renner’s left hand. It is behind the slide. If he pulled the trigger either intentionally or by accident with his thumb in that position, he would be lucky if he came away with only a broken thumb. In all likelihood, he would also do serious damage to the ligaments and tendons connecting the thumb to the hand. To say the least, that would ruin an enjoyable trip to the shooting range or it would disable you in the face of an imminent threat.

The other two pictures show the proper positions of the thumb and trigger finger. If you grew up handling guns as I did, you probably don’t realize that novice gun users don’t have a clue about anything having to do with guns. Teaching them to use guns safely should begin with the most basic things imaginable–things that you do automatically without even thinking. Those things are second nature to you, but not to them.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Haggai 2: 1-9

On the twenty-first of the seventh month, the word of Yahweh came by Haggai the prophet saying, “Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people saying, ‘Who is left among you who saw this temple in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Does it not seem to you like nothing in comparison? But now take courage, Zerubbabel,’ declares Yahweh, ‘take courage also, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all you people of the land take courage,’ declares Yahweh, ‘and work; for I am with you,’ declares Yahweh Sabaoth. ‘As for the promise which I made you when you came out of Egypt, My Spirit is abiding in your midst; do not fear!’ For thus says Yahweh Sabaoth, ‘Once more in a little while, I am going to shake the heavens and the earth, the sea also and the dry land. I will shake all the nations; and they will come with the wealth of all nations, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says Yahweh Sabaoth. The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine,’ declares Yahweh Sabaoth. ‘The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,’ says Yahweh Sabaoth, ‘and in this place I will give peace,’ declares Yahweh Sabaoth.”

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.

  • Stand! is a suspense novel that exposes the lies, corruption, and greed underlying the theory that man-made CO2 emissions are responsible for global warming.  Professor Wes Carlyle and Karen Sterling, his research collaborator, carefully scan the audience for their would-be attacker—a member of the enviro-gestapo who has been following them for days.  Wes spots his man in the back of the room leaning against the wall.  Suddenly, another man in the audience steps forward and moves toward Karen at a menacing pace.  With a vicious stroke, he swings a billy club at her head.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
  • What Will You Do with the Rest of Your Life? deals with a question that every Christian has to consider: what should I do with my life?  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
  • Falsely Accused is a true story about a young woman who was accused of committing a double homicide.  It’s about a travesty of justice, and it reveals Yahweh intervening in the life of a believer to rescue her from danger in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.  Everyone will enjoy the book, but young people in particular need to read it because the mistakes made that led to the problem could have been avoided.  They were the kinds of mistakes that young people are prone to make.  As they say, forewarned is forearmed.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
