Caroline Glick—Empowering Palestinians who reject Israel’s right to exist:

US Secretary of State John Kerry will arrive in Israel for his 14th visit this week. And to assure that his stay will be a happy one, Saturday night the government approved the release of 26 more Palestinian mass murderers from prison. This will please Kerry because today a core goal of US Middle East policy is to secure the release of Palestinian mass murderers from Israeli prisons.

That’s right. The same America that until a few years ago led the free world in the global war against terror, now conditions its support for Israel, its chief regional ally in that war, on the Jewish state’s willingness to release unrepentant, mass murdering terrorists back into Palestinian society.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but it ought to go without saying that this policy hinders, rather than advances the cause of peace. It is impossible to rationally claim that by coercing Israel into releasing people like Juma Ibrahim Juma Adam and Mahmoud Salam Saliman Abu Karbish that the US is advancing the cause of peace.

In 1992, the two men firebombed a civilian bus, murdering Rachel Weiss, who was nine months pregnant, and three of her pre-school aged children, as well as IDF soldier David Delarosa, who tried to save them.

They were released on Monday, due to US pressure on Israel and received back home to heroes’ welcomes. Their freedom empowers Palestinians who reject Israel’s right to exist and seek its destruction through acts of genocide against its Jewish citizens.

Gallia Lindenstrauss and Yaniv Avraham: Is Turkey Returning to the “Zero Problems” Policy?— The disclosure of political corruption of unprecedented proportions in Turkey’s history has catapulted the country into a state of major political upheaval. So far, the response of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has consisted of counterattack and statements attributing the exposé to a network of domestic and international elements interested in toppling his party’s rule. He has even attacked alleged provocations by foreign ambassadors in Turkey and threatened to expel them. In practice, however, Turkey’s foreign policy, at least with regard to some of the neighboring countries, is very different from what the rhetoric would seem to indicate. In fact, in recent weeks one can discern efforts to jumpstart Turkey’s erstwhile “zero problems” policy.

Prof. Efraim Inbar: Erdogan is in trouble— Changes were introduced also in the foreign policy arena. Fueled by Islamist and Ottoman impulses, Turkey devised a so-called “zero problems policy” toward its Middle Eastern neighbors. Instead of the Kemalist hands-off policy toward the Middle East, the new approach emphasized good relations with Muslim neighbors in order to attain a leading role for Turkey in the Muslim space. As part of this attempt to gain hegemony in the Arab and Muslim worlds, Israel-bashing became an important tool of Erdogan’s foreign policy, causing deterioration in relations between Ankara and Jerusalem. This policy also reflected a Turkish distancing from the West, basically giving up the long-cherished Turkish goal of becoming part of Europe (for which the Europeans are partly at fault). The apex of this foreign re-orientation was the September 2013 decision to purchase an air defense weapons system from China, which is clearly and blatantly at odds with Turkey’s NATO membership.

Dan Margalit: The globalization of corruption— The clash between the sons of light and the sons of darkness is not just a local matter. It is a globalization issue. There is no better proof of this than the coping mechanisms employed by both sides of the conflict, the government and its rivals, during the ongoing corruption scandal threatening to topple the regime in Ankara. The police in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir investigated possible corruption by government ministers and, appropriately, did not inform Recep Tayyip Erdogan of its activities; and the court thwarted an attempt by the dictator to squash the police investigation. This is different than certain affairs that have occurred in other countries, even in comparison to Israel, for example, when the former police commissioner and the chief of his investigations department questioned former Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi about his domestic opulence.

William Marsden: For Obama, 2013 was a year of defeats—U.S. President Barack Obama might wish he could take back 2013, although it’s doubtful he could change anything. He began the year promising to transform America into a more economically egalitarian and socially conscious society. He ended it with apologies and empty words. A modest gun control law, tax reform, immigration reform, a budget, all failed in 2013. Early in the year any hope that he could win bipartisan support for any initiative was quickly dashed by House Republicans who, in the words of Republican Sen. Pat Toomey, had no intention of giving him any victories. Then, to cap it all off, Obama botched the rollout of his signature program the Affordable Care Act. This drove down his approval numbers. Back in January he boasted a respectable 52 per cent. By December he had sunk to 39 per cent, the lowest of his presidential career.

Lee Smith: In 2013, America Swapped Its Sledgehammer for a Scalpel. Here’s Who Won and Lost.—With the end of 2013 comes the end of the American era in the Middle East. To call the last 40 years a “Pax Americana” would probably be overstating the case because, this being the Middle East we’re talking about, there was an awful lot of violence—from the Israeli-Arab wars, to the Iran-Iraq war, to the American liberation of Kuwait and invasions of Iraq, to scores of bloody terror attacks stretching from the eastern Mediterranean to the Persian Gulf. But no one doubted that America was in charge, and everyone in the region could place bets accordingly and with a reasonable idea of what might be in store.

Nadav Shragai: A wake up call to build in Jerusalem— There was never any need to draw a connection between building in Israel and releasing terrorists. It’s a crooked comparison, but since the world is also crooked, we’re left with one of two options: Either we can fix it, or we can mitigate the damage and isolate the benefits. This time, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu chose the second option, and because of that decision, Jerusalem and its environs have to form the core of the Zionist enterprise.

Jonathan Feldstein: Jesus Was a Palestinian? Really?— Just in time for Christmas, the world was treated this week to the latest offense from the “Palestinians” with the declaration by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas that Jesus was a “Palestinian.” Abbas’ offensive Christmas greeting called Jesus “a Palestinian messenger who would become a guiding light for millions around the world,” and suggested Israel was to blame for the exodus of Christians from the Holy Land. With a reference to Luke 23:34, Israel’s foreign ministry spokesman noted, “He should have read the gospel before uttering such offensive nonsense, but we will forgive him because he doesn’t know what he’s doing,” adding that Abbas’ remarks are an “outrageous rewriting of Christian history.” I’m no theologian and, as an Orthodox Jew, certainly no expert in Christianity or the gospel. However, I know a dangerous and offensive ambush on both Judaism and Christianity when I see it, and when those called “Palestinians” today erase and rewrite whole sections of Scripture that are the foundation of Judaism and Christianity, it must be called for what it is: a dangerous lie that is a hybrid between Palestinian nationalism and the ultimate Islamic replacement theology.

Ali Salim: Palestinians: Is Abbas Being Asked to Sign His Death Warrant?—The European and American attempts to impose an academic and economic boycott on Israel increase in direct proportion to the signs that the Palestinian-Israel peace process is sinking into the mud. Boycotts, however, will simply make the Israelis more obstinate and worsen the situation. President Obama tried to reassure Israel recently by promising that the future final status agreement would not turn the West Bank into “a replica of Gaza.” He was referring to the rockets the Palestinians began launching from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory as soon as Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip, and stressed that in any peace agreement, the United States would not allow another Palestinian terrorist state, this one in the West Bank, to shell Israel.

Elliott Abrams: Arafat and Al-Jazeera: Making trouble— Last week, Russian experts added their voices to those of French experts who had examined Yasser Arafat’s remains to determine if he was poisoned. “French experts have ruled out a theory that Yasser Arafat was killed by poisoning,” Agence France-Presse reported several weeks ago. Now the BBC reports that “announcing its conclusions on Thursday, the head of Russia’s Federal Medical-Biological Agency (FMBA), Vladimir Uiba, said, ‘Yasser Arafat died not from the effects of radiation but of natural causes.'”

Prof. Ron Breiman: A dangerous diplomatic path— The peace talks Israel has been holding with the Palestinian Authority — the Oslo metamorphosis of the Palestinian Liberation Organization — are developing in predictable and dangerous ways. For example, terrorists from the PLO and Gaza-ruling Hamas have become increasingly bold, escalating both the frequency and intensity of their attacks. Some analysts have dismissed the severity of such incidents, apathetically and apologetically nicknaming them “atmospheric attacks,” but it is impossible to ignore the connection between the so-called peace process and the swelling profluence of attacks. Against the backdrop of peace negotiations, the situation is explosive. Israel’s overindulgence and weakness is blowing up in the face of an increasing number of soldiers and civilians, bringing us closer to the outbreak of an Oslo war (which is called intifada in Arabic, an unfortunate term that hides the primary cause).

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

The scripture below is from the New American Standard Bible, and the hyperlinks associated with each word are from Strong’s Concordance for the New American Standard Bible.

Habakkuk 1: 5-8

“Look among the nations! Observe! Be astonished! Wonder! Because [I am] doing something in your days– you would not believe if you were told. For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans, that fierce and impetuous people who march throughout the earth to seize dwelling places which are not theirs. They are dreaded and feared; their justice and authority originate with themselves. Their horses are swifter than leopards and keener than wolves in the evening. Their horsemen come galloping, their horsemen come from afar; they fly like an eagle swooping [down] to devour.”

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
