Caroline Glick—The demise of Pax Americana:

What happened in Geneva last week was the most significant international event since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. The collapse of the Soviet Union signaled the rise of the United States as the sole global superpower. The developments in the six-party nuclear talks with Iran in Geneva last week signaled the end of American world leadership.

Global leadership is based on two things – power and credibility. The United States remains the most powerful actor in the world. But last week, American credibility was shattered.

Secretary of State John Kerry spent the first part of last week lying to Israeli and Gulf Arab leaders and threatening the Israeli people. He lied to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and the Saudis about the content of the deal US and European negotiators had achieved with the Iranians.

Kerry told them that in exchange for Iran temporarily freezing its nuclear weapons development program, the US and its allies would free up no more than $5 billion in Iranian funds seized and frozen in foreign banks.

Kerry threatened the Israeli people with terrorism and murder – and so invited both – if Israel fails to accept his demands for territorial surrender to PLO terrorists that reject Israel’s right to exist.

Elliott Abrams: The Case of the Phony Fatwa—The existence of this fatwa is being used to suggest that Iran my well not be seeking nuclear weapons after all, and this fact would make a successful negotiation with Iran more likely. The problem is, there is no such fatwa. At least, no one has ever seen it or produced it.  A study by the web site MEMRI (full disclosure: I serve on its board) has found that no text of this alleged fatwa exists, nor is it present in any compilation of Khamenei’s fatwas. Khamenei has discussed possession of nuclear weapons in his speeches, especially in a 2004 sermon where he called production, possession, or use “problematic.” But a speech is not a fatwa, which is a jurisprudential ruling– and “problematic” is hardly a strong term announcing a prohibition. And the MEMRI analysis continues, “It should further be clarified that in the regime’s records of sermons by Khamenei, there is a clear differentiation between the jurisprudential ones – that is, the fatwas – and the political ones; the regime has placed this particular sermon in the political section, not the jurisprudential section, of the records.”

Yoram Ettinger: Ben-Gurion’s Legacy: Resisting U.S. Pressure— Upon the 40th anniversary of Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion’s death, Israeli and American policy-makers should study the 1948 legacy of Israel’s Founding Father: Defiance of disproportionate U.S. pressure forged Israel into a national security producer rather than a national security consumer, catapulted the Jewish state into the most productive U.S. strategic ally, enhanced the long-term U.S.-Israel mutually beneficial ties (following short-term tension), and advanced the national security of both the U.S. and Israel.

Ephraim Asculai: The Plutonium Option: Iran’s Parallel Route to a Military Nuclear Capability— Since the first announcement in August 2002 that Iran was constructing a heavy water production facility at Arak, there has been little doubt in the minds of many people that in parallel with a uranium enrichment program, Iran has embarked on a plutonium route for the production of fissile materials for military use. With the approaching completion of the IR-40 heavy water natural uranium reactor at Arak, this scenario has commanded more public attention.

Daniel Greenfield: Al Jazeera Paid $500 Million to Reach 13,000 Viewers—It’s funny. It’s as if for some reason Americans don’t seem eager to tune in to a news channel most famous for its beading videos. In the deal of the century, Al Jazeera paid $500 Million dollars for a liberal cable channel no one watched and then lost half its viewers. How much did that half a billion bucks, plus whatever Qatar paid Time Warner to carry it, buy? 13,000 viewers a day. Qatar could probably get better ratings by turning Al Jazeera America into an Aquarium Fireplace channel and just showing a fish tank or a burning log and then occasionally interrupting it to scream, “AMERICA SUCKS”.

Yoel Guzansky and Erez Striem: New-Old Borders in the Middle East— Although the formal map of the Middle East has not changed since the onset of the so-called Arab Spring (with the exception of Sudan), the old borders do not reflect the reality on the ground. As a result of the regional upheavals, tribal, sectarian, and ethnic identities have become more pronounced than ever, which may well lead to a change in the borders drawn by the colonial powers a century ago that have since been preserved by Arab autocrats. Changes to date have occurred inside the existing borders, but this may not last. States are liable to disintegrate by going through stages of federalization, agreed-upon separation, or autonomy. In general, the international community is opposed to any changes in borders and the dissolution of states, believing that any change of the status quo is liable to destabilize the region and even the world. However, in the context of the regional turmoil, the Arab peoples are seeking the freedom to live in political settings that suit their respective identities.

Jerold Auerbach: Thomas Friedman’s Folly— Thomas Friedman’s boyhood infatuation with Israel following the Six-Day War quickly faded. During his undergraduate years at Brandeis in the mid-Seventies he belonged to the steering committee of a “Middle East Peace Group” affiliated with  the notoriously anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian, organization Breira. Posted in Beirut by The New York Times during the first Lebanon War, his unrequited love turned to fury after the Sabra and Shatila massacre in 1982. “Boiling with anger” at Prime Minister Begin and Defense Minister Sharon, and determined to “help get rid of them,” Friedman wrote the four-page Times article that won a Pulitzer Prize. A week later, after an interview with the Israeli commanding officer, he proudly “buried” the general on page one and “along with him every illusion I ever held about the Jewish state.” Even Friedman subsequently admitted: “I was not professionally detached.”

David M. Weinberg: Why are we feeding Palestinian terrorism?— American investigative journalist Edwin Black (author of the award-winning international bestseller “IBM and the Holocaust”) has just published a book called “Financing the Flames: How Tax-Exempt and Public Money Fuel a Culture of Confrontation and Terrorism in Israel.” His timing couldn’t be more appropriate, since we have learned that our Palestinian peace partners are giving generous grants and stipends to terrorists recently released from Israeli prisons.

Thomas Sowell: The War Against Achievement—A friend recently sent me a link to an inspiring video about an upbeat young black man who was born without arms. It showed him going to work — unlike the record number of people living on government payments for “disabilities” that are far less serious, if not fictitious. How is this young man getting to work? He gets into his car and drives there — using controls set up so that he can operate the car with his feet.

Mark Patinkin: Fighting the ‘something for nothing’ mentality—I was in line a week ago at the CVS in Wayland Square, behind an older woman. She was only buying a few items but taking a long time checking out. She didn’t seem mindful of those behind her. The young female cashier remained courteous. Finally, the woman finished up. The cashier put her items in a bag — including a medium-sized soda bottle — and handed it across the counter. The woman took it hastily, seeming to pay little attention, and as she turned, the bottle fell from the bag to the floor. It rolled a few feet away.

Investor’s Business Daily Editorial: Obama’s Scandals Stem from His Lawless Presidency— Last Friday, after the Associated Press learned about the Justice Department’s sweeping seizure of its phone records, AP CEO Gary Pruitt said “there can be no possible justification” for the action. No doubt that’s true. But there also seems to be no possible justification for the many other scandals now swamping the Obama administration — from Benghazi, to the IRS scandal to the White House’s attempt to shake down health companies for ObamaCare money. Except that they all stem from a common root — President Obama’s callous disregard for the rule of law. [Things have gotten worse as Obama has discovered that he can violate the law with impunity—see President Obama Unilaterally Rewrites Obamacare—Again.  Hence, his base immorality is on display for all to see.  Curiously, Obama’s supporters can’t or won’t accept the truth.]

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

The scripture below is from the New American Standard Bible, and the hyperlinks associated with each word are from Strong’s Concordance for the New American Standard Bible.

Jonah 3: 10

When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do [it].

There may be hope for America yet, but we must be willing to do what the people Nineveh did, we must turn from our wicked ways.

“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”

2 Chronicles 7:14

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
