Salvation, Obedience, and the Leading of the Spirit—Part 6: Beyond Salvation

Hebrews is one of my favorite books in the Bible.  I can’t explain why, but the first time I read it, it touched me in a powerful way.  Each time I’ve read it since then, it’s had a similar effect.  The book begins by explaining who Jesus is:

“And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.  When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent Name than they.” Hebrews 1: 3-4

It wasn’t until the year 2000 that I really understood the meaning of those verses.  Jesus is Yahweh, and the Name He inherited that is much better than the names of the angels is Yahweh.  As a Christian, I knew that Jesus is God the Son, but I had no idea how important that was.  Eventually, Yahweh directed me to write a book about His Name, and the process of writing it proved to be the most rewarding experience of my life.

I’ll never forget a day in October 2000.  I already knew I was supposed to write the book, but for some reason I wasn’t permitted to begin.  That’s a big deal for me, because the secret to writing a book is getting started.  For me, once a writing project is underway, finishing it isn’t an issue.  But Yahweh wasn’t ready, and I didn’t know why.  That day in October 2000 stands out in my mind because I decided to schedule an entire day to get the ball rolling.  Early that morning, I went through my normal routine, but nothing happened.

After many hours of praying and thinking about the book, I finally gave up and went outside to play golf.  Since I lived on a golf course, I didn’t have to go very far.  In fact, I had a golf cart in my garage, and all I had to do was drive it to the first tee.  On the third hole, it happened.  A thought came into my mind, and I knew immediately that it wasn’t my thought.  It was actually a question: “Do you know why you haven’t been permitted to start writing the book?”

I didn’t know the answer, and I said, “No.”  Immediately I got the answer: “Before you can write about My Name, you must understand what an honor it is to be selected for this purpose.”  Tears came to my eyes immediately as I began to grasp the awesome privilege that Yahweh had bestowed on me.  His Name is the Name that is above every name. (Philippians 2: 9)  It is the Name to which every knee will bow when He returns (Philippians 2: 10 and Isaiah 45: 23), and it’s the only Name “under heaven by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4: 12)

On the third hole at Glenmore Country Club in Charlottesville, Virginia as I was preparing to make my approach shot to the green, John 3: 18 came into my mind.  It’s a somewhat obscure verse, especially when compared with its nearby neighbor — John 3: 16:

“He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the Name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3: 18

All my life, I had been led to believe that John 3: 18 refers to the Name “Jesus,” but I was wrong.  Years earlier, I had learned that the Name “Jesus” is an English transliteration of the Greek word “Iesous” and that the Name He was actually given at birth was Yeshua.  But now I was getting further clarification.  The Name of the Son of God by which we must be saved isn’t Jesus or Yeshua.  It’s Yahweh.  Then Isaiah 43: 11 came into my mind: “I, even I, am Yahweh, and there is no Savior besides Me.”

Part of my mission was to obey Yahweh and write a book about His Name.  That is higher order obedience because it is specific to me.

Avi Issacharoff: Arab leaders wary of potential US-Iran thaw— Most leaders in the Arab world have been cautious, some to an extreme, when discussing the recent thaw in US-Iran relations. Some have even appeared to fall in line with Israel’s worried position on the issue. After all, certain countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and the UAE, have good reason to lack faith in the credibility of Tehran’s new media-based outreach strategy.

Robert Spencer: John Kerry’s Jobs Program for Would-Be Jihadists— Last Friday in New York, at a meeting of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF), Secretary of State John Kerry and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu launched what they called the “Global Fund for Community Engagement and Resilience,” which CNSNews.com said was intended to “support local communities and organizations to counter extremist ideology and promote tolerance.” It will do this essentially by giving potential jihad terrorists money and jobs – an initiative that proceeds from the false and oft-disproven assumption that poverty causes terrorism.

Khaled Abu Toameh: What Abbas Missed in His UN Speech—Last week Mohamed Shtayyeh, a member of the Fatah Central Committee, revealed that 250,000 out of the 600,000 Palestinians in Syria have been forced to flee their homes since the beginning of the conflict there. Yet in his speech at the UN General Assembly, PA President Mahmoud Abbas largely ignored the plight of these Palestinians, choosing instead to direct his criticism at Israel. Nor did he utter a word about Lebanese and Egyptian mistreatment of Palestinian refugees, or the fact that nearly 2,000 Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured in Syria in the past two years.

Eugene Kontrovich: How the EU Funds Settlements in Occupied Territory – in Northern Cyprus—The EU claims it has an obligation to keep its money from going to Israeli entities in the territories. Yet the EU provides substantial direct financial assistance to settlements in occupied territory – in Turkish-occupied Northern Cyprus. The EU’s official policy is that the Turkish occupation is illegitimate and it does not recognize the Turkish government in Northern Cyprus. Nonetheless, the EU maintains an entire separate program to direct funds to Northern Cyprus.

Matthew Levitt: Tough times for Hezbollah— …Flush with revenues from skyrocketing oil prices, Iran reportedly had ramped up its funding to defray Hezbollah’s soaring costs as it attempted to rebuild following its 2006 war with Israel. The funds went toward fulfilling Hezbollah’s unprecedented needs in areas such as restocking weapons supplies, investing in reconstruction, and buying favor within both the various sectarian communities and Lebanese towns and villages that suffered damage during the war. The 2009 Lebanese elections also were expensive, with Hezbollah increasingly desperate for support in order to compete with its Sunni political rivals, who were funded by Saudi Arabia. According to one report, as the election neared, Iran allegedly pledged as much as $600-million to Hezbollah for its political campaign. In recent years, Israeli sources estimated, Iran had provided Hezbollah some $1 billion in direct military aid.

Naela Khalil: Hamas MP Entangled in Palestinian Honor Killing—On Sept. 20, 51 members of the Zeidan family in the village of Deir al-Ghusun near Tulkarem in the West Bank, including the Hamas deputy in the Legislative Council, Abdel Rahman Zeidan, signed a statement condemning the behavior of a female family member, Thamar Zeidan, 33, for “disgraceful and outrageous acts.” The following day, the woman’s father strangled her with a wire.

Hussein Shobokshi: Lebanon Is Occupied – by Hizbullah—Hizbullah has turned into a mercenary militia defending a foreign tyrant and his criminal regime, as well as terrifying Lebanese citizens and spreading terrorism across the world.

Christoph Reuter: Syria’s Disneyland for Jihadists—More than 1,000 jihadists are staying in and around Atmeh, a once-sleepy smugglers’ nest on the Turkish border that has become a Mecca for jihad tourists from around the world.

Lt. Col. (ret.) Jonathan D. Halevi: Syria Keeps Moving in the Islamic Direction—The formation of the Army of Islam in Syria on September 29, 2013, signifies the ongoing trend of the Islamization of the struggle against Bashar Assad’s Alawite regime in Syria.

Samantha Rose Mandeles: Fighting for Israel on College Campuses—It’s that time again. In my office, September is one of the busiest months of the year. My students, located all around North America, are returning to college. Almost as soon as they arrive on campus, the stories start pouring into my inbox. From UC Berkeley to Smith College, from the University of Central Florida to Arizona State, from Cornell to Tulane, my students monitor perceptions of Israel throughout their campus communities.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
