Salvation, Obedience, and the Leading of the Spirit—Part 4: Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden

In the Garden of Eden, there were many trees.  Adam and Eve were free to eat from all of them — except one.  Yahweh told Adam, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you shall surely die.” (Genesis 2: 16-17)

Why did Yahweh tell Adam and Eve to avoid the tree of the knowledge of good and evil?  The answer is so simple that it’s almost scary.  He wanted them to have an intimate, personal relationship with Him and to follow Him.  If they had followed Yahweh, they wouldn’t have needed the fruit from that tree because His path always leads to good.  Yahweh wants us to follow Him.  That’s what He has wanted since the beginning.

Satan tempted Eve.  She took a bite from the apple and shared it with Adam.  Their sin set in motion the rebellion against Yahweh that has continued to this day.  And it all started with an “innocent desire” to know good and evil, right and wrong.

Do you get the point?  Adam and Eve wanted to know all the laws in the Bible.  Make no mistake.  Eve’s desire wasn’t innocent.  I’m sure you recall how Satan seduced her.  He said,

“For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3: 5)

Eve wanted to be like Yahweh.  That’s exactly what the Bible says.  She didn’t want to be dependent on Him for anything.  Remember what Jeremiah 23: 5-6 says.  He is our righteousness, so we are totally dependent on Him for salvation.  Nothing we do can change that, and we should be thankful that He has covered us with His perfect righteousness.  Literally, we have no righteousness apart from Him.

Satan’s modus operandi hasn’t changed.  He’s still trying to seduce us.  Don’t be deceived by his evil ploys.

13--Perspectives 2

Boaz Bismuth: The speech the world needed to hear— Netanyahu’s U.N. speech was not meant to appease the world, it was meant to tell the truth, and the truth sometimes hurts.

Alan Dershowitz: Netanyahu’s Powerful UN Speech is Being Distorted by the Media— I was in the General Assembly when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered his speech about Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Iran’s nuclear program.  I heard a very different speech from the one described by The New York Times and other media outlets. Not surprisingly, the Iranians described it as “inflammatory.” More surprisingly, the Times described Netanyahu’s speech as aggressive, combative, sarcastic, and sabotaging diplomacy, while the only expert it quoted called the speech ineffective and pushing the limits of credibility.

Dror Eydar: Israel’s need to spur the world to action— We have returned to history only to remind the world of what it wants to forget.

Dr. Haim Shine: Historical insight— Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is perhaps the only prime minister since the late Menachem Begin who has historical insight.

Caroline Glick: Obama ‘Laid Trap’ for Israel— Any United States deal with Iran on its nuclear weapons program can only turn out badly for Israel and the rest of the world, said Caroline Glick, senior Middle East fellow at the Center for Security Policy. “The Obama administration seems to have cooked up something with Russia and did not consult with Israel, because they knew that Israel would disapprove because this deal … is not going to be enforced,” Glick told “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV.

Jerrold L. Sobel: Obama/Rouhani: Peace in Our Time— Poor President Obama and the beleaguered nation he leads. Benghazi, Fast and Furious, ObamaCare, the IRS scandal and his most recent diplomatic fiasco, Syria. Can it get any worse? Well, you may wish to hold onto your hats, this five-year roller coaster took another deep drop this Thursday when yet another smooth-talking tyrant pulled the wool over our exalted, Quixotic president.

Daniel Pipes: Believe Khamenei and Assad? Not Me— Has anyone else noted the similarity in the weekend’s top two Middle East news stories – the telephone call between the Iranian and American presidents and the passage of U.N. Security Council Resolution 2118 that calls for the “expeditious destruction” of Syrian chemical weapons?

Clare M. Lopez: History of the Muslim Brotherhood Penetration of the U.S. Government— Given the long history of Muslim Brotherhood activity in this country, its declared objective to “destroy the Western civilization from within,” and the extensive evidence of successful influence operations at the highest levels of the U.S. government, it is urgent that we recognize this clear and present danger that threatens not only our Republic but the values of Western civilization.

Daniel Greenfield: Obama’s Muslim Advisers Blame Coptic Christians for Muslim Attacks Against Them— If you want to know why Obama and his cronies have turned a blind eye to Muslim Brotherhood violence against Coptic Christians while focusing obsessively on clashes between Rohingya Muslim migrants in Burma and the native Buddhist population, look no further than the Muslim advisers of Obama Inc.

Simon Plosker: Iran Learns the Language of the West— A recent Washington Post / ABC News opinion poll found that an overwhelming 79 percent of Americans expressed their support for a U.S.-Russian plan to disarm Syria of its chemical weapons. This, despite 68 percent of those questioned expressing their belief that the plan wouldn’t actually work. How to explain this cognitive dissonance?

4--Scripture of the Day USE THIS ONE

The scripture below is from the New American Standard Bible, and the hyperlinks associated with each word are from Strong’s Concordance for the New American Standard Bible.

Amos 3: 6-8

If a trumpet is blown in a city will not the people tremble? If a calamity occurs in a city has not Yahweh done it? Surely Adonai Yahweh does nothing unless He reveals His secret counsel to His servants the prophets. A lion has roared! Who will not fear? Adonai Yahweh has spoken! Who can but prophesy?

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
