Nat Hentoff—Where are protests against murderers of Christians?:
Largely absent from nearly all our sources of news and commentary is deep, continuing coverage, if any, of the horrifying massacres of Christians in Egypt and especially Syria and the burning down of their churches.
The world’s most prominent Christian, Pope Francis, has denounced the violence, but our media has mostly ignored him, instead giving him a justly favorable response for his concern for the poor and otherwise vulnerable.
One of the few penetrating protesters of this violence is Rich Lowry, editor of the National Review, as published in JewishWorldReview.com:
“For the first time in 1,600 years, they didn’t pray this past Sunday at the Virgin Mary and Anba Abraam monastery in a village in southern Egypt.
“Islamists firebombed and looted the monastery, which dates back to the fifth century. For good measure, they destroyed a church inside. They then announced that they would be converting the monastery into a mosque” (“Christians face backlash in Egypt,” Lowry, JWR, Aug. 20: ).

Jerusalem Post Editorial: Threatening Israel—”If Damascus is attacked, Tel Aviv will burn,” a Syrian higher-up bristled this week. The very fact that a neighboring state could be held for ransom for events entirely outside its control should shock world opinion. But it does not. We suspect the reaction would be radically different had any other country been similarly threatened for no fault of its own.
Caroline Glick: Bluster, bluff and backstabbing: Obama’s bread and circuses— Over the past week, US President Barack Obama and his senior advisers have told us that the US is poised to go to war against Syria. In the next few days, the US intends to use its airpower and guided missiles to attack Syria in response to the Syrian regime’s use of chemical weapons in the outskirts of Damascus last week. The questions that ought to have been answered before any statements were made by the likes of Secretary of State John Kerry and Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel have barely been raised in the public arena. The most important of those questions are: What US interests are at stake in Syria? How should the US go about advancing them? What does Syria’s use of chemical weapons means for the US’s position in the region? How would the planned US military action in Syria impact US deterrent strength, national interests and America’s credibility regionally and worldwide?
Bruce Riedel: Saudi Arabia Blames America for the Turmoil in Egypt—In a scathing statement, Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah urged Muslims to stand behind the Egyptian Army in fighting terrorism and extremism. Speaking in sorrow, Abdullah blamed outsiders ignorant of Arabism, Islam, and Egypt for senseless interference in the politics of the Arab world’s most populous state. Clearly referring to President Obama’s decision two years ago to push for Hosni Mubarak’s ouster, the king suggested Washington played with fire and has now been burned.
Gidon Ben-Zvi: What Obama Can Learn From Netanyahu on Syria—It appears that a military strike by the United States on Syria is imminent. Yet, while developments in the Middle East are forcing the Commander in Chief to act decisively and with all due haste, every major poll taken about the public’s attitude reveals a sobering trend: Americans don’t want to engage. Since President Obama has long based his foreign policy on how it will play at home, he may be tempted to intervene in a way that lacks continuity or consistency. In that regard, Obama can learn from another country that took action against the rogue regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad: Israel.
Prof. Abraham Ben-Zvi: Obama’s damage control strategy— Obama may have set the bar too high by making the use of chemical weapons a trigger for U.S.-led military action, and now he is boxed in.
Amos Yadlin and Avner Golov: U.S. Military Intervention in Syria—The fact that Assad’s army carried out a large-scale attack with chemical weapons clearly cannot be ignored. The declared U.S. objective is to punish Assad for the use of chemical weapons and to deter him from further use of these weapons.
Majid Rafizadeh: Iran’s Threats over Syria—Senior Iranian military generals and members of parliament issued clear threats and warnings to the U.S. and its allies on Tuesday that any military strike on the Syrian government would not only lead to a retaliatory attack on Tel Aviv, but would also engulf the entire region. According to Iranian leaders, the U.S. and its allies will encounter “the flames of outrage” and “perilous consequences” from Tehran and Damascus if they carry out military strikes against the Syrian government.
Ranj Alaaldin: Assad’s Allies are Only Just Warming Up— If the West must attack Syria, then it must be limited to give Assad a bloody nose and nothing more. Otherwise they shift the tide in favour of the rebels and elicit greater support from Assad’s allies, who have greater reach into Syria and are willing to devote far more to the conflict and the survival of the regime.
Meir Javedanfar: Don’t Expect Iran to Fight for Assad—In case of a military attack by the U.S. against Syria, there is little chance that Iran will become directly involved. This is despite Iran stating that it would consider such an attack as crossing its “red line.” It’s also quite unlikely that a U.S.-Syria conflict would lead to Iran permanently breaking off nuclear negotiations with the P5+1. Here again, the reason is related to Iran’s own pressing priorities. Should Iran walk away from talks, that would give those in the West who want to ratchet up sanctions even more justification to do so. Ayatollah Khamenei can live without Assad in power, but he can’t live without a functioning economy.
Ron Ben-Yishai: Assad Senses West’s Weakness—According to reports from the field, the Syrian army used missiles equipped with warheads loaded with sarin gas. The missiles were fired indiscriminately with the purpose of causing mass casualties. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the sarin gas was blended with other substances and was therefore not as lethal.

The scripture below is from the New American Standard Bible, and the hyperlinks associated with each word are from Strong’s Concordance for the New American Standard Bible.
Joel 1: 1-4
The word of Yahweh that came to Joel, the son of Pethuel: hear this, O elders, and listen, all inhabitants of the land. Has [anything like] this happened in your days or in your fathers’ days? Tell your sons about it, and [let] your sons [tell] their sons, and their sons the next generation. What the gnawing locust has left, the swarming locust has eaten; and what the swarming locust has left, the creeping locust has eaten; and what the creeping locust has left, the stripping locust has eaten.

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now. There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone. Click here to order the eBook.
