Jerold Auerbach—Kerry and his Court Jews:

In an effort to secure support for his newly launched “peace process,” Secretary of State John Kerry met last Thursday evening with a selected group of American Jewish leaders. Like Rabbi Stephen Wise before them, who tacitly consented to President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s determination to do nothing to rescue European Jews from the Holocaust, they comprised a roster of Court Jews.

Among the organization officials who were invited to display their deference to the Obama administration “peace process” were representatives of the American Jewish Committee, J Street, AIPAC, B’nai Brith, Hadassah, the National Council of Jewish Women, the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, and representatives of the Conservative and Orthodox movements.

Predictably, Kerry vigorously urged his hand-picked group to “endorse and support” the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations that he has been so driven to revive. Israel, he warned, faces the threat of diplomatic isolation if it does not reach a peace agreement with the Palestinians. And, echoing President Obama during his own recent visit to Jerusalem, he warned that Israel faced a looming demographic threat to its Jewish majority without the birth of a Palestinian state.

13--Perspectives 2

#####

Zalman Shoval: The obstacle of land swaps— Little Israel does not have the practical means to donate land to the Palestinians, and this must be understood to move forward in the peace process.

Erez Linn: A peace deal will never hinge on a referendum— The words “sovereignty” or “sovereign” are conspicuously absent from the law.

Amir Taheri: Iran’s Next Nuke-Talk Ploy to Con the West—Iran’s new president, Hassan Rouhani, has declared the lifting of sanctions on the country as his top priority – even as he insists that he won’t budge an inch on the country’s controversial nuclear program. He has chosen a tactic developed by the mullahs over centuries – mumatilah, or temporizing. It’s designed to buy time without giving concessions. Rouhani practiced mumatilah for years while serving as point-man on the nuclear issue. The time he bought enabled Iran to transform an embryonic project into a full-scale program covering the entire scientific and industrial cycle to produce a nuclear arsenal.

Elliott Abrams: Can Israel Depend on U.S. Security Guarantees?—Secretary of State John Kerry told a group of key Jewish leaders last week that the regional strategic environment has become favorable for a peace agreement because opponents of peace have weakened over the past two years. But few were persuaded by Kerry’s arguments.

Raymond Ibrahim: Egyptians Enraged by U.S. Outreach to Muslim Brotherhood— Egyptian media is awash with stories of the growing anger regarding this policy. A top advisor to Egypt’s Interim President Adly Mansour formally accused McCain of distorting facts to the benefit of the Brotherhood. He dismissed McCain’s recent remarks as “irrational” and “moronic.” Ahmed al-Zind, head of the Egyptian Judge Club, has called for the arrest and trial of McCain for “trying to destroy Egypt.” The leader of the youth movement Tamarod (meaning “Rebellion,” against the Brotherhood), which played a major role in mobilizing the June 30 revolution, said: “We reject John McCain and call on the international community to let the [Egyptian] people decide their own fate.” Secular political commentator Ahmed Musa asserted: These two men have made more shameless demands than the Brotherhood themselves would dare.

Vice Adm. (res.) Eliezer Marom: Shared interests against Islamist radicals— Establishing a channel of communication with Damascus seems impossible, but could provide a crucial advantage in our ever-changing environment.

Yoram Schweitzer and Aviad Mendelbaum: Al-Qaeda: Vanquished or Strengthened?— Al-Qaeda captured international headlines again last week, with reports of a direct threat to Western embassies – American embassies in particular – and civilians everywhere. This media event renewed the debate about the threat level currently represented by al-Qaeda. While over the last year senior figures in the US administration, members of the defense establishment, and many analysts embraced optimistic assessments, namely, that the organization is close to elimination, this past week the pendulum swung the other way and pointed to a strengthened al-Qaeda, which in conjunction with its affiliates presents as a multi-tentacle octopus-like creature capable of carrying out simultaneous, multi-victim terrorist attacks throughout the world.

Zvi Magen: United States–Russian Friction: Implications for the Middle East— Tension between Russia and the United States has risen recently, following the cancellation of President Obama’s scheduled meeting with President Putin at the G20 summit in Russia in early September 2013. The immediate background to the tension is the Snowden affair, with Russia’s decision to grant political asylum to Edward Snowden, who leaked information on US surveillance programs. In fact, however, the two countries are challenging one another in a host of crisis situations on the bilateral, global, and regional levels. Overall relations between the two superpowers have grown colder, and if this tension is not resolved, it can be expected to have negative consequences for the international system as a whole, including theMiddle East.

Aryn Baker: The Failed Saudi-Russian Talks: Desperate Diplomacy as Syria Implodes— You could call it the Hail Mary pass of diplomatic relations. In a desperate attempt to find some solution to the ongoing Syria crisis, now in its third year with no end in sight, Saudi Arabia’s intelligence chief Prince Bandar bin Sultan reportedly offered Russian President Vladimir Putin a multibillion-dollar arms deal to curb Moscow’s support for the Syrian regime of President Bashar Assad when they met in Moscow last week. The deal was rebuffed; on Friday the Kremlin responded to news accounts about the proposal with a terse rebuttal, telling Reuters that no deal had been discussed in detail. Earlier news accounts, including the one from Reuters, quoted unnamed Arab and Western diplomats describing a deal in which Saudi Arabia would buy some $15 billion worth of Russian weapons in addition to offering assurances that Gulf countries wouldn’t threaten Russia’s dominance of the European gas market in exchange for a commitment that Moscow would not block future U.N. Security Council resolutions on Syria. The threat of a Russian veto has been the major obstacle to any U.N. actions in Syria.

Dexter Van Zile: Church Leaders Condemn Israel, but not Syria, Showing Clear Double Standard— Why is it that American religious leaders who have gotten so worked up about the Arab-Israeli conflict speak in such muted tones about the Syrian Civil War? What is going on here?

Hosea 12: 1-2

Ephraim feeds on wind, and pursues the east wind continually; He multiplies lies and violence. Moreover, he makes a covenant with Assyria, And oil is carried to Egypt. Yahweh also has a dispute with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; He will repay him according to his deeds.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
