Dr. Reuven Berko—Morsi will pay the price:

As the sorry sight of imprisoned Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak slowly fades from view, Egypt’s longing for the days of the deposed president is growing stronger. And after one year under Mohammed Morsi’s thumb, the Egyptians’ pining is justified.

Since the Muslim Brotherhood candidate was elected president, the internal situation in Egypt has steadily deteriorated and every aspect of its domestic affairs — the economy, tourism, unemployment, the justice system and internal security — has been plagued with constant unrest. Now, it seems that Egypt is on the brink of civil war.

The post-election Islamist euphoria, which was fueled by the election slogan “Islam is the solution,” has been replaced by nepotism, apologetics and numerous other mistakes. The party’s leadership, which tried steering Morsi in the direction of increasingly Islamist legislation, has failed, as did the sheikhs who once encouraged the masses to prefer procreation over prophylactics.

4--Scripture of the Day

Hosea 5: 3-5

I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from Me; for now, O Ephraim, you have played the harlot, Israel has defiled itself. Their deeds will not allow them to return to their God. For a spirit of harlotry is within them, and they do not know Yahweh. Moreover, the pride of Israel testifies against him, and Israel and Ephraim stumble in their iniquity; Judah also has stumbled with them.

  • God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
  • “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
  • “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.  In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)
  • Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8: 58)

13--Perspectives

#####

Avi Issacaroff: Analysis: For the Brotherhood, Morsi’s fall would have a domino effect—The first battle between the the opposition and the ruling Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt ended in the early hours of Monday morning, when millions of demonstrators slowly dispersed to their homes after a long and bloody night. According to figures from the Egyptian Health Ministry, 10 people died and 613 were injured during the confrontations that broke out between supporters of the two camps. The most severe clashes were near the Muslim Brotherhood building in the Muqqatam area south of Cairo, where four people were killed, but also in other cities, such as Asyut, Port Said, Al-Mahala, Al-Kubrah, and others.

Joseph Klein: Showdown in Egypt—Millions of Egyptians participated in protests all over the country on the first anniversary of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi’s inauguration this past weekend, including in areas where his Muslim Brotherhood has traditionally had strong support. Morsi’s increasingly authoritarian style of government, worsening economic conditions since he assumed office and Islamist power grabs, rising fears of an Iran-type Egyptian theocracy have fueled the historic protests. In fact, more demonstrators have poured into the streets demanding Morsi’s resignation than came out during the final days of the uprising that led to former President Hosni Mubarak’s overthrow in 2011.

Udi Dekel and Orit Perlov: Egyptian Discourse on Gaza—On May 16, 2013, seven Egyptian soldiers were kidnapped in El Arish in northern Sinai by a Salafi jihadist group affiliated with al-Qaeda. Many activists in the Egyptian social media have begun to view Gaza as the source of Sinai’s security problems, pointing the finger at Gaza for every terrorist attack or kidnapping. Immediately after the abductions, calls emerged for the immediate closure of the Rafah crossing and a large-scale operation against the smuggling tunnels connecting Gaza and Egypt. The public resentment was such that Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh felt obligated to condemn the kidnappings, proclaiming Hamas’ respect for Egyptian sovereignty in Sinai and refuting Palestinian involvement.

Walter Russell Mead: A Light Fails in Egypt—Morsi’s biggest problem never was the liberals of early Tahrir Square; Western-oriented secular liberalism has a long way to go before it can become a significant ideological force among the masses in Egypt. His greatest ideological opponents are cynicism and despair and he is in such deep trouble today because the collapsing economy and the general paralysis make him look like another snake oil salesman selling a fake route to progress.

Raymond Ibrahim: Shias: The Arab Spring’s Latest Victims—The U.S.-sponsored “Arab Spring” continues to expose itself as a Sunni supremacist takeover.  While the indicators are many—from the al-Qaeda Benghazi consulate attack to the ongoing persecution of Christian minorities—attacks on Shia Muslims are also on the rise. In Syria, where foreign Sunni jihadis, supported and armed by the United States, are attacking all non-Muslims—Christians are prime and obvious targets, and reports of church attacks, abductions of Christians, and their slaughter are many—Shias, who are seen as “false Muslims,” are naturally also under attack. For example, Salafi Sheikh Yasir al-‘Ajlawni recently issued a fatwa saying that those Muslims fighting to topple secular president Bashar Assad and install Sharia law are free to “capture and have sex with” all non-Sunni women, specifically naming President Assad’s sect, the Alawites, as well as the Druze and other Shia branches.

Jonathan S. Tobin: Building in Jerusalem Won’t Prevent Peace—The permits for constructing 69 apartments in the Har Homa neighborhood of Jerusalem was treated as a big deal in Friday’s New York Times, which was quick to compare it to the 2010 episode in which the Obama administration picked a fight with Netanyahu over a routine announcement about a housing start in a 40-year-old Jewish neighborhood in Jerusalem. The administration claimed it was an “insult” to Vice President Joe Biden, who happened to be passing through the city at the time.

Ronn Torossian: Media vs. Pro-Israel Advocates— Everything in Israel attracts undue media attention. So often there is extreme, inaccurate media coverage against Israel in a biased manner. Reporting is often done without any context as to the region Israel is a part of, and comparisons are made without any comparative scales.

Raymond Ibrahim: The ‘Sex Jihad’— News emerged a few weeks ago in Arabic media that yet another fatwa had called on practicing Muslim women to travel to Syria and offer their sexual services to the jihadis fighting to overthrow the secularist Assad government and install Islamic law. Reports attribute the fatwa to Saudi sheikh Muhammad al-’Arifi, who, along with other Muslim clerics earlier permitted jihadis to rape Syrian women.

Joseph Puder: Islamism’s Tactical Advantage— America and the democratic West faced the European-based totalitarian ideologies of Nazism (National Socialism), Fascism, and Communism, and triumphed over them all.  Another totalitarian ideology has arisen in recent decades, this time not in Europe, but the Muslim Middle East, called Islamism.  It is a political perversion of Islam, albeit it is rooted in Islamic traditions and scriptures.  What makes this 21st Century Islamist totalitarian ideology different from the other destructive ideologies of the 20th century is the adoption of multiculturalism and political correctness (PC) in the democratic West that have tied the West’s hands in combating this evil.

Mark Tapson: Hollywood’s Islam-Free Terrorism— The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that terrorism is making a comeback in Hollywood films after a dozen post-9/11 years in which they shied away from dealing with a topic that studios deemed too sensitive. The report credits this new trend to filmmakers attempting to bring to their fictional films some “real-world relevance.” There’s just one problem: Hollywood’s terrorism is still devoid of real-world terrorists.

14--Blessings from Revelation

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
