Yahweh Looks at the Heart

Saying that our heart condition is important to Yahweh is an understatement.  He made that fact perfectly clear when He rejected Saul and made David Israel’s king:

But Yahweh said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16: 7)

Our willingness to obey God depends on the condition of our heart and our openness to the leading of His Spirit.  Yahweh’s message is not too complicated for ordinary men and women to understand.  He presented it in very simple terms so that in the end no one will have an excuse for disobeying Him.  We do not need preachers, rabbis, and other learned individuals to tell us what God said, even though some of them may want us to believe that we do.  We need only Yahweh, His Word, and His Spirit to understand His message, and then our heart condition determines whose we are.

Matthew 13: 1-23 is the Messiah’s parable about the sower of seeds.  In the parable, He discusses four possible heart conditions, and He uses the fertility of the soil in which the seed is sown as a metaphor for the condition of our hearts in matters pertaining to Yahweh’s Word and the leading of His Spirit.  Below are the heart conditions and a brief summary of His comments about them:

  • Soil beside a tightly packed roadway (Matthew 13: 4): The soil beside the road is so tightly packed that birds eat the seed before it has a chance to sprout.  This soil symbolizes a rock-hard human heart that God’s Word cannot penetrate, and the birds represent Satan snatching away God’s Word before it has a chance to grow and produce fruit. (Matthew 13: 19)
  • Rocky soil just beyond the tightly packed dirt (Matthew 13: 5): Seed planted in rocky soil sprouts immediately, but the soil has no depth so the young plants’ roots cannot take a firm hold.  Thus, they die quickly.  This condition symbolizes people who hear the Word of God and immediately accept it with gladness, but when they experience hardship or any form of persecution for believing His Word they fall away without delay. (Matthew 13: 20-21)
  • Soil infested with thorns (Matthew 13: 7): This soil may be fertile, but it is incapable of sustaining young plants because the thorns choke them out.  The Messiah used this metaphor to symbolize people whose hearts are too preoccupied with worldly pursuits to produce fruit for Him.  He specifically mentions people with an inordinate desire for creature comforts and financial security, and He calls this thorn the “deceitfulness of wealth.” (Matthew 13: 22)  As the End of Days approaches, this may be the most difficult problem confronting United States citizens who claim to be Christians.
  • Good soil (Matthew 13: 8): Good soil symbolizes a heart that is open to God’s Word and obedient to the leading of His Spirit.  According to the Messiah, people with this type of heart hear God’s Word, understand it, apply it, and bear much fruit for Him. (Matthew 13: 23)

Yahweh’s plan of salvation is uncomplicated and it’s presented so clearly in the Bible that anyone can understand it.  We are saved by grace through faith. (Ephesians 2: 8)  It’s as simple as that.  Each one of us has the opportunity to make a decision.  Will we follow the leading of God’s Spirit?  It’s a “yes” or “no” question the answer to which will determine our eternal destiny.

Please do not test Yahweh.  By that I mean please do not require Yahweh to give you more evidence than He has made available in the Bible already to prove something that should be crystal clear.  You have all the evidence you need, so decide.  As for me and my house, we will trust Yahweh and follow Him.  Any other choice would be foolish and dangerous.

There really is only One God, Yahweh, and He created each one of us for a reason.  He’s not dependent on us to accomplish our tasks, because in the end, He will accomplish His goals with or without our help.  But we are totally and absolutely dependent on Him.

4--Scripture of the Day

Hosea 1: 10-11

Yet the number of the sons of Israel will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered; and in the place where it is said to them, “You are not My people,” it will be said to them, “You are the sons of the living God.” And the sons of Judah and the sons of Israel will be gathered together, and they will appoint for themselves one leader, and they will go up from the land, for great will be the day of Jezreel.

  • God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
  • “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
  • “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.  In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)
  • Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8: 58)

13--Perspectives

#####

Dr. Reuven Berko: Khamenei’s clone— Iran’s elections were preceded by a vetting process that included the disqualification of candidates deemed unsuitable by the supreme leader.

Brig.-Gen. (ret.) Michael Herzog: Israeli Perspectives on Syria—Recent developments confirm that nearly 40 years of quiet on the Syria border are about to end. From the Israeli side of the border on the Golan Heights you can see the fighting inside Syria with your own eyes.

Harold Rhode: And the Winner is… Iran’s Nuclear Program—In the West, we constantly look for ways not to engage in military conflict; the Iranians are more than willing to offer us those ways. We will almost assuredly give the new president Hassan Rowhani time to “consolidate” his position, thereby granting Iran even more time to develop its nuclear weapons capability.

Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon: Israel’s Security Policy in a Changing Middle East—In the Middle East we witness the strengthening of political Islam, the entrance of even more radical jihadi elements into the arena, the heightened Shia-Sunni conflict everywhere, and radical Sunni elements in many countries around us.

Haviv Rettig Gur: Rowhani’s first diplomatic success, and possibly his last—Iranian election results have already sparked a new debate in the West about the future of sanctions and the need for diplomacy, but has anything really changed?

Michael Freund: Iran’s new fanatic-in-chief— Eleven years ago, a middle-aged, up-and-coming Iranian cleric sat down for a rare interview with ABC News. Though largely unknown to the West at the time, the bespectacled mullah served as chairman of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and was a key adviser to the Iranian president. Despite knowing that he was appearing before a Western audience, the turbaned official made little effort to hide his uncompromising and extremist views. When asked why then-US President George W. Bush had included Iran as part of the “axis of evil,” for example, the partisan Persian did not hesitate to invoke an anti-Semitic canard, blaming the Jews for America’s policy.

Walid Phares: U.S. and Syria: Strategic Choices— Two years and three months after the start of the Syrian revolution and its subsequent transformation into a full-fledged civil war, the United States stands at a historic crossroads; intervening with the goal of crumbling the Assad regime and assisting in erecting an alternative power in Damascus or backing the opposition to a point where the regime has no other choice than to negotiate at Geneva. The latter scenario would predicate Assad’s gradual exit that would surrender the country to a combination of political forces but satisfy all regional and international players on the Syrian scene.

Arnold Ahlert: The Terror Plots the NSA Program Stopped—On Tuesday, the intelligence community made its latest effort to defend and explain two secret surveillance programs disclosed by former defense contractor Edward Snowden. In a rare open hearing, National Security Agency (NSA) Director Keith Alexander told the House Intelligence Committee that more than 50 potential terrorist plots had been foiled since 9/11. “In the 12 years since the attacks on Sept. 11, we have lived in relative safety and security as a nation,” General Alexander said. “That security is a direct result of the intelligence community’s quiet efforts to better connect the dots and learn from the mistakes that permitted those attacks to occur on 9/11.”

Michael Volpe: Muslim Activism Done Right—The news pages, both in print and online, are routinely splashed with a plethora of stories about groups that claim to represent Muslims (think: CAIR) and that contribute to the demonization of the Global War on Terror (GWT). Rarely are readers exposed to a Muslim group that fights this demonization. But in Canada, a new group called the Progressive Muslims Institute Canada (PMIC) has been vocal in its opposition to Islamic jihadists, and they’ve been able to build bridges with the Jewish community.

Steve McCann: The Self-Delusion of the American Political Establishment— Washington D.C. is not just a city of monuments, museums and millions of square feet of buildings housing a preponderance of left-leaning overpaid bureaucrats complaining about how hard they work, it is also the home of the American Political Establishment (APE).  This monolithic body has evolved over the past eighty years as an ever increasing amount of political power once delegated to the states and the people has been seized by the federal government.  Within this entity are two branches: the senior partner — the Democratic Establishment — and the junior partner — the Republican Establishment.

14--Blessings from Revelation

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
