An Open Letter to President Obama

Dear President Obama,

Cc: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

I have listened to your beautiful words and pronouncements of United States support for Israel, as well as to your understanding of the Israelis’ position. Your exquisite speech was stated before a most receptive young audience of college students.

Missing were the students of the University of Ariel, located in Samaria near Jerusalem. Also not visible were the members of the Knesset, whose invitation to speak before their parliamentary body was rejected by you, Mr. President, before you left the US for Israel.

In the same time frame as your speech, rockets were launched into Israel from Gaza by Hamas terrorists. This firing upon Israeli civilians constitutes a war crime. This should be squarely denounced and Hamas leadership should be held accountable by the international community. America should take the lead in this denunciation and call for action against Hamas.

Imagine the chaos if even one of the rockets hitting Sederot in southern Israel had landed in the same building where you spoke. The Hamas rockets provide indisputable evidence of their intent toward Israel. Iran immediately followed suit by proclaiming they would destroy Haifa and Tel Aviv if either the US or Israel bombs Iran.

These rockets provide proof positive of who really wants peace and the reality of the facts on the ground. The rockets further demonstrate the dangerous terrorism that Israel faces on a daily basis – the real fuel for the conflict.

Please remember, Mr. President, the conflict is not about the “settlements” in Judea and Samaria or about “apartheid” or “occupation” or the “borders” of a Palestinian state. The conflict is about annihilating Israel and the Jews and the Judeo-Christian values that sustain the freedoms we hold so dear.

The conflict is about the Muslim Brotherhood along with the 57 nations of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) whose goal is to establish a return of the seventh century Caliphate – the international, governmental, militaristic, spiritual and religious center of command which those 57 nations would recreate for the final stated purpose of re-establishing militant Islam worldwide.

The Israeli Arab conflict serves the useful purpose of providing a diversion to redirect the world’s attention away from the real threat to Western civilization. Israel should not serve as the scapegoat distraction from the fact that the Koran and Sharia Law dictate the subjugation of all people who do not accept Islam.

Please, Mr. President, do not pressure Israel to become more vulnerable by giving up additional land for mere promises of peace and subsequently compromising Israel’s security.

Respectfully,

Esther Levens,

Founder and President of the Unity Coalition for Israel

4--Scripture of the Day

Daniel 3: 19-23

Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with wrath, and his facial expression was altered toward Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. He answered by giving orders to heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated. He commanded certain valiant warriors who were in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego in order to cast them into the furnace of blazing fire. Then these men were tied up in their trousers, their coats, their caps and their other clothes, and were cast into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire. For this reason, because the king’s command was urgent and the furnace had been made extremely hot, the flame of the fire slew those men who carried up Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. But these three men, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, fell into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire still tied up.

Ruth R. Wisse: Passover’s Enduring Message of Freedom—On Monday, Jewish homes around the world will hold a Passover Seder – an orchestrated meal that commemorates the liberation of their people from enslavement in Egypt and celebrates the civilization that emerged from that breakout into independence. In the summer of 1940, my parents executed our flight from a fate worse than slavery at the hands of the Soviets and the Nazis who took turns subjugating the Romanian city we escaped, Czernowitz.

Seth Mandel: The Most Important Paragraph of Obama’s Entire Israel Trip—Yesterday, former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon received two significant mentions in the press. The first was from President Obama, who quoted Sharon in his speech to Israeli youth. “If we insist on fulfilling the dream in its entirety, we are liable to lose it all,” Obama said in Sharon’s name, telling the crowd to make peace with the Palestinians and warning against the quest for a Greater Israel. Quoting Sharon was a wise choice to express this sentiment. It isn’t just American presidents, Obama was saying, who believe in the necessity of the two-state solution; King Arik–once the architect of a sovereign Greater Israel–said so too.

Roger L. Simon: Obama Preaches to the Israeli Choir—President Obama sweet-talked the Israelis, but not in the way he sweet-talked the Arab world in the 2009 Cairo speech. There were no apologies to Israel and not likely to be any. What went on behind closed doors with Netanyahu and others may have had a distinctly different tone. Who knows?

Mark Davis: Obama Delivers Recipe For Disaster in Israel—You can’t blame President Obama for making a beeline to a convention hall filled with students during his Israel trip. If there is any group that has shown a particular susceptibility to his snake oil, it is the soft, impressionable minds of those at the cusp of adulthood.

Claudia Rosett: Threats Galore—For rogue regimes to threaten America and its allies is nothing new. But I have the distinct sense these days that the threats are both prolific and becoming more boldly specific.

Bridget Johnson: Reid Rushes Into ‘Basis for Opening Debate’ Gun-Control Bill— In a coordinated offensive between the upper chamber and the White House, Vice President Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) paved the way for a gun-control package — watered-down, according to the author of the 1994 assault weapons ban — to make it to the Senate floor. But it came with a clear signal that the White House, despite Reid knocking the assault weapons ban off the base bill, wants the restrictions included in a final package.

Seth Mandel: Why Biden Won’t Fold on the Gun Ban—The phrase “ignore politics” means ignore the voters, to whom members of Congress are answerable and who they expect to punish them for going too far on this issue. As I wrote yesterday, in pushing the assault weapons ban, the White House put Reid in a difficult position. Reid rarely permits the Senate to carry out anything resembling responsible governance because he doesn’t want Democrats to have to vote on anything troublesome. Since most liberal policy ideas are terrible, Reid ensures they rarely have to come to the floor for a vote. But President Obama made gun control an issue, and wanted a whip count on a gun ban. So Reid gave him the whip count–publicly–which embarrassed the gun ban’s supporters because it showed that Democrats don’t like the legislation either, which is why it was dropped.

Barry Rubin: As Obama Continues Israel Visit, His Themes Are Reinforced— As President Barack Obama continued his visit to Israel, the themes remained the same as the ones I covered with the prior post. The two main public events were a speech by Obama to Israeli university students, and a joint press conference with Palestinian Authority (PA) leader Mahmoud Abbas. In his speech, Obama spoke at great length about Israel’s history, concerns, and related matters to try to show that he “gets it” when it comes to Israel. The phrases were in many cases similar to those used by previous presidents: the intention was to show warm sympathy and support for Israel.

Jonathan S. Tobin: Obama Will Need to Curb Kerry’s Folly—President Obama is being praised for his peace advocacy during his visit to Israel this week. But it hasn’t escaped the notice of savvy observers that for all of his eloquent appeals for coexistence, he did not commit himself to any specific peace plan. In fact, he actually endorsed Israel’s call for negotiations without preconditions, a clear change from previous U.S. demands for a settlement freeze and other concessions. Even more to the point, since Palestinian attitudes toward Obama’s visit ranged from indifference to outright hostility, it’s hard to see how the president’s attempt to urge young Israelis to work for peace will change a thing.

Barry Rubin: Obama in Israel: A Love Fest, with Lots of Policy Complications— The Obama visit to Israel has become an unlimited love fest with expressions of mutual admiration and total agreement. In his joint press conference with Obama, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the foremost issue they were discussing was “Iran’s relentless pursuit of nuclear weapons.” (Don’t miss the “P.S.”, below.) Netanyahu put forward his position by praising Obama for saying he was determined to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons by using “determined diplomacy and strong sanctions.” But, Netanyahu continued, despite all the great things Obama had done, Iran’s nuclear program remained.

Jonathan S. Tobin: Obama’s Visit with Abbas in Ramallah—During President Obama’s visit, rockets were fired from Gaza into southern Israel, illustrating not only that the PA didn’t control much of what would constitute an independent Palestinian state, but that those who did had no interest in a two-state solution. The Obama-Abbas press conference struck a very different note from the friendly exchanges that marked the president’s appearance with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. While the president was again stating his support for the idea of a Palestinian state, he also pushed back a little bit on Abbas’ charade that Israeli settlements were preventing the outbreak of peace.

Interview with Vali Nasr: The U.S. Is Underengaged in the Middle East—Circumstances have changed. In 2009, President Obama thought that the most important issue in the region was the Arab-Israeli issue. It now has to compete with some other very important crises there.

Mazal Mualem: Israel’s New Defense Minister’s Outlook—Former IDF chief of staff Moshe “Bogie” Ya’alon said during the election campaign, “To my regret, I supported the Oslo Agreements. But as head of military intelligence, the full picture was revealed to me and I understood that the more land we concede, the more we put people at risk. This is our history. Every time a proposal was raised to partition the land, the other side started a war. Every time we expressed willingness to give up territory, terror rose to new heights.”

Lt.-Gen. (ret.) Moshe Ya’alon: Restoring a Security-First Peace Policy—This is the Introduction to the study Israel’s Critical Security Requirements for Defensible Borders by a group of senior Israeli generals, outlining the basic principles of a defense policy – rooted in a consensus spanning past and present Israeli governments – which is focused on Israel maintaining defensible borders.

Khaled Abu Toameh: Hamas: We Are Not Terrorists; We Just Want to Destroy Israel—Hamas wants to be removed from the U.S. State Department list for foreign terrorist organizations, without changing its strategy or charter, which call for jihad [holy war] and do not recognize Israel’s right to exist. Hamas is also not prepared to dismantle its armed group, Izaddin al-Kassam, or stop smuggling weapons, or give up thousands of rockets and mortars it possesses in Gaza. And of course Hamas is not prepared to renounce violence in the context of its effort to seek legitimacy in the international community.

Jerusalem Post Editorial: Protecting a Holy Site—Imagine the deafening outcry that would have arisen had Jewish stone-throwers attacked Arab mourners and visitors to a major cemetery. But when, as it happens, the assailants are Arab while the mourners and visitors are Jewish, there is no outcry, no condemnation. No one talks about the regular predations on Jews trying to reach Jerusalem’s ancient Mount of Olives Cemetery, regarded by many as the second holiest Jewish site anywhere.

Dan Margalit: Behind Closed Doors: Gaps over Iran Policy—President Obama’s trip to Israel has essentially been one of reconciliation, friendship, smiles and understanding. But friendship is not a substitute for policy positions.

Herb Keinon: How Would Obama’s Speech Play in Ramallah?—President Obama delivered a passionate peace paean to a warm and excited crowd in Jerusalem on Thursday.

Ariel Ben Solomon: Obama’s Israel Visit Leaves Arabs Upset—The Arab media see the Obama visit to Israel as a reversal of his initial attitude upon beginning his first term in 2009 and his famous outreach to the Muslim world, symbolized by his speech in Cairo that same year.

Khaled Abu Toameh: Palestinians Disappointed with Obama—Even before President Obama left Ramallah on Thursday, PA officials were quick to express disappointment with the result of his talks with President Abbas.

Matthew Levitt: Why Europe Should Ban Hizbullah— According to Bulgarian investigators, Hezbollah was responsible for the July 2012 bus bombing that left five Israelis and a Bulgarian dead at Burgas airport. Two of the Hezbollah operatives were Western citizens—a Canadian and an Australian—who returned to Lebanon via Romania and Poland; a third died in the attack. Meanwhile, a confessed Swedish Hezbollah operative is now on trial in Cyprus. According to his statements to police, he surveilled Israeli tourists arriving on the island. At one point he speculated his role was in support of a plot to “bring down a plane.” Later, he insisted that “it was just collecting information about the Jews, and this is what my organization is doing everywhere in the world.” Prior to being dispatched to Cyprus, Hezbollah used this operative as a courier sending and retrieving packages to or from Hezbollah operatives in places like Turkey, the Netherlands, and France.

Bob Feferman: Argo, Iran, and the Bomb—In the Oscar award-winning movie Argo, we get a glimpse of the brutal nature of the Iranian regime during the Islamic Revolution of 1979. We see mock executions, public executions on building cranes, and sense the climate of intense fear created by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).  Now, 34 years later, the human rights situation in Iran is even worse, and the regime is frighteningly closer than ever to developing nuclear weapons.  How, one might ask, is this possible in the 21st century, and what can we do about it?

James Lewis and Justine Aristea: Dangerous Times: Crypto-Fascism in Italy, Hungary, Greece, Albania—A great sense of alarm is spreading among ordinary Europeans today, especially in the south and east of the continent. People are finally starting to take the signs of foundation-shaking turmoil seriously.

Byron York: Is border secure? Administration doesn’t have a clue—If Congress passes comprehensive immigration reform, it will depend on the Obama administration to enforce the law. How might that work? A glimpse of the future came Wednesday when the House Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security held a little-noticed hearing titled “Measuring Outcomes to Understand the State of Border Security.”

Todd Starnes: University Apologizes for Stomping Jesus—Florida Atlantic University has issued an apology for a classroom assignment that involving students writing the name “Jesus” on a sheet of paper and then stomping on the paper. The university also said the lesson will never again be used.

Tara Servatius: We’re All CVS Employees Now—Soon, all Americans must disclose their weight, BMI, and smoking habits to the government – and “surprise health inspections” may well be in the works, too.

Matthew Ernst: Mental Illness and Guns—Nearly two-thirds of all mass shooting involve individuals suffering from serious mental illness — but Senator Feinstein is away from her desk.

14--Blessings from Revelation

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
