Nathaniel Botwinick: Iran Is ‘Running Syria’—In an interview with Al-Arabiya, former Syrian prime minister Riad Hijab, who defected six months ago, said that “Syria is occupied by the Iranian regime. Who runs the country isn’t Bashar Assad but Kassem Suleimani, the head of Iran’s al-Quds Brigades [within the Revolutionary Guards].”

4--Scripture of the Day

Ezekiel 47: 6-9

He said to me, “Son of man, have you seen this?” Then he brought me back to the bank of the river. Now when I had returned, behold, on the bank of the river there were very many trees on the one side and on the other. Then he said to me, “These waters go out toward the eastern region and go down into the Arabah; then they go toward the sea, being made to flow into the sea, and the waters of the sea become fresh. It will come about that every living creature which swarms in every place where the river goes, will live. And there will be very many fish, for these waters go there and the others become fresh; so everything will live where the river goes.”

5--HNIY Print form

His Name is Yahweh explains why the Name of God, Yahweh, is so important.  It’s available in eBook format and in paperback.

  • God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
  • “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
  • “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.  In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)
  • Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8: 58)

Jonathan S. Tobin: The Palestinians Never Wanted Fayyadism—That Fayyad failed in his efforts is not a matter that most people think is worth debating. The only question is why he didn’t succeed. To that query, New York Times columnist Roger Cohen provides the answer that is his catch-all excuse for anything that goes wrong in the Middle East: Israel. That this onetime apologist for an anti-Semitic Iranian regime prefers to focus on the supposed evils of the Netanyahu government is hardly surprising. But his inability to understand just how isolated Fayyad was in Palestinian society speaks volumes about why most Israel-bashers are clueless about Arab rejectionism.

Jonathan Tobin: Of course Netanyahu’s the Obstacle to Two-State Solution— Listen to anyone in the liberal chattering classes talk about the Middle East and there’s little doubt about who is to blame for the lack of peace between Israel and the Palestinians: Benjamin Netanyahu. According to the conventional wisdom spouted by most daily editorial pages, not to mention the many foreign cheerleaders for the Palestinians, the Israeli prime minister is alleged to be an intransigent foe of peace talks that has single-handed stopped progress toward peace. That this contradicts the facts about Netanyahu as well as ignores the record of the Palestinians doesn’t seem to bother anyone who spread this disinformation. So no one should be surprised if Netanyahu’s latest affirmation of his support for a two-state solution and call for talks with the Palestinians without preconditions doesn’t change anyone’s mind.

Cinnamon Stillwell and Rima Greene: Indoctrinating Children: ‘Palestine Solidarity’ in the Classroom—American high schools risk producing radicalized students whose hostility toward Israel is matched only by their ignorance of history.

Lee Smith: Why Iran Already Has the Bomb—If North Korea has the bomb, then for all practical purposes Iran does, too. Consider the history of extensive North Korean-Iranian cooperation on a host of military and defense issues, including ballistic missiles and nuclear development. “The North Koreans have been cooperating with Iran for about a decade on nuclear and missile issues, and the Iranians have several full-time weapons engineers on site in North Korea,” said Henry Sokolski, executive director of the Nonproliferation Policy Education Center in Washington, D.C.

George Friedman: U.S.-Iranian Dialogue in Obama’s Second Term—As U.S. President Barack Obama’s second-term foreign policy team begins to take shape, Iran remains unfinished business for the U.S. administration. The diplomatic malaise surrounding this issue over the past decade has taken its toll on Washington and Tehran. Even as the United States and Iran are putting out feelers for another round of negotiations, expectations for any breakthrough understandably remain low. Still, there has been enough movement over the past week to warrant a closer look at this long-standing diplomatic impasse.

Yiftah Shapir: Syrian Weapons in Hizbullah Hands—Why would Syria move weapons to Hizbullah precisely when its army is in the midst of heavy fighting on Syrian territory? A likely possibility is that the Syrian army is transferring to Hizbullah systems that it does not immediately need for its fighting against the rebels, but which it is interested in keeping on Lebanese territory, where it is safer from rebel attacks. This could explain the transfer of Scud missiles, which are complicated to operate and require a large force; it is difficult to imagine that Hizbullah has the wherewithal to operate these systems. It could also explain the transfer of air defense systems: since the rebels do not have an air force.

Michael Rubin: Is the U.S. Ready to Fight Syrian Rebels?—There’s an unfortunate tendency among foreign policy decision makers in Washington to believe that all options remain on the table indefinitely. Hence, President Obama may believe that the same debates and policy options that occurred two years ago, at the start of the Syrian uprising, still exist today.

Michael Curtis: Islamists Eliminating History—This disturbing trend has become evident throughout the world, and we are losing priceless anthropological treasures because of it.

Michael Rubin: U.S. Options in Syria Worsen—There’s an unfortunate tendency among foreign policy decision-makers in Washington to believe that all options remain on the table indefinitely. Two years ago, it made sense to support the Syrian opposition. President Bashar al-Assad was a brute who supported Hizbullah, transformed Syria into an underground railroad for al-Qaeda terrorists infiltrating Iraq, and sought to build a covert nuclear program.

James D. Besser: With Obama Trip Looming, New Realism Limits Options—Ahead of President Obama’s first official visit to Israel, a dramatically altered Middle East climate may relieve much of the international pressure that past presidents felt to become involved in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. At home, the subject of U.S. involvement has become so toxic that few politicians of either party see much point in actively supporting it.

Raanan Eliaz: Europe Is Not Lost—Are Israel’s relations with European countries in fact on the decline? In June 2000, the EU signed its first Association Agreement with Israel. In 2005, Europe adopted the EU-Israel Action Plan to expand relations. In July 2012, the EU approved unprecedented steps to enhance Israel-EU relations in 60 trade and diplomatic policy areas, including increased access to the EU’s single market, closer cooperation on transport and energy, and enhanced ties with nine EU agencies. In October 2012, the European Parliament ratified a critical framework agreement on Israeli industrial products, by a vote of 379-230.

James G. Zumwalt: Innovation in the Middle East—On Jan. 22, Iranian President Ahmadinejad railed against the West, saying: “Don’t buy our oil? To hell with you. It’s better if you don’t buy…10 times more money will head into people’s pockets through the inventions of our scientists.” Yet Iran hasn’t been an ideal environment for fostering the development of inventions with non-military applications.

Anav Silverman: Conference of Presidents: American-Israeli Unity Strong as Ever—110 American Jewish leaders gathered this week in Jerusalem for the 39th annual mission of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. “This conference is designed to allow us to hear Israel’s political, military and social leaders so we can devise specific ways to pro-actively work together to strengthen Israel,” said Malcolm Hoenlein, executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents. “There are 52 major Jewish organizations represented here. Our umbrella organization…was established in 1955….We come from all religious and political spectrums from across the U.S.”

Dore Gold: Israel’s Challenging Diplomatic Predicament— In light of developments over the last few years, there has been a growing realization in Israel that the chances of reaching a complete final status agreement with the Palestinians are presently extremely small. This is not just an ideological position coming out of certain quarters in Israel, but it is also the professional view of practitioners who have been involved in the political process itself.

David Bedein: How US Military Aid to Fatah Actually Bolsters Hamas— Let us take a dispassionate look at the past and present reality of the Fatah- dominated Palestinian Authority armed forces, known as the PSF, the Palestinian Security Forces.

David P. Goldman: How Should the United States Respond to State Failure in Egypt?— The possibility of state failure in Egypt is now widely discussed in the foreign policy community. Largely ignored by major media for most of the past two years, Egypt’s economic crisis now commands the attention of foreign policy analysts. In a JINSA Analysis published January 30, “Failure IS an Option in Egypt,” I argued that the structural deficiencies of Egypt’s economy are so deep and intractable that state failure may not be avoidable.

Bob Owens: MN Democrats Abandon ‘National Conversation’ on Guns – Literally—At a meeting, elected officials left the room to avoid expert testimony that would have better educated them about the issues they intended to legislate on. Democrats claim a desire for a “national conversation” about the role of firearms in our society, but this display stated a preference for an emotional, callous argument.

Nicholas Eberstadt and Apoorva Shah: Fertility decline in the Muslim world: a veritable sea-change, still curiously unnoticed— Throughout the Ummah, fertility levels are falling dramatically for countries and sub-national populations–and traditional marriage patterns and living arrangements are undergoing tremendous change. This brief note highlights some of these changes, examine some of their correlates and possible determinants, and speculate about some of their implications.

Roz Rothstein and Yael Mazar: Fairy tales won’t bring peace: A tale of ‘Five Broken Cameras’— Five Broken Cameras (2011), a documentary currently up for a 2013 Oscar and co-directed by the film’s narrator and videographer, Palestinian Emad Burnat, and Israeli filmmaker Guy Davidi, attempts to erase the complexity of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The film unfolds as a Palestinian fairy tale, narrated in a soothing, storytelling voice.

Michael Freund: Fundamentally Freund: The evil we face— Even though Israel’s new coalition government has yet to be formed, international pressure is already starting to mount on the Jewish state to make concessions to the Palestinians.

Janice Shaw Crouse: President Unleashes a Nationwide ‘Community Organizing’ Campaign—Perhaps Mr. Obama is not preparing for a dictatorship, but the groundwork is being laid for unprecedented government dependency.

Jonathan S. Tobin: How Dare Ted Cruz?—Democrats might well be spending the day after the unsuccessful attempt to end debate on the nomination of Chuck Hagel pondering why President Obama and Vice President Biden were so obsessed with shoving an unqualified and incompetent candidate down the throats of the Senate. Politico has a fascinating story about why President Obama and Vice President Biden were unwilling to listen to sense about Hagel and went all in on the nomination even after clear signs of trouble about the former senator were apparent. But owning up to the sorry truth that what the White House likes best about Hagel are exactly the qualities that have made his confirmation such a tough slog — weakness on Iran, hostility to Israel and an unwillingness to stand up for the needs of the department he’s slotted to run — would require liberals to ask some tough questions about the president’s goals for his second term. Instead, the chattering classes are obsessing about the alleged bad manners of one of the newest additions to the U.S. Senate.

Deborah C. Tyler: The Illusions of Supplemental Security Income, from Someone Who Knows—I’ve looked at SSI Disability from both sides now, from in and out…and still somehow it’s the scammers, the duped, and the resentful I recall.

William J. Meisler: The Welfare State and Manhood—The statist must deconstruct manhood in order to be able to establish the social welfare state. It is the centerpiece of the whole enterprise.

Next Generation: Why We Need to Change Our Flawed Approach to Educating America’s Children (Video)—Students once learned how to think rationally instead of memorize facts for a state test.

14--Blessings from Revelation

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
