Jack Cashill: Pope Benedict XVI Still Unnerves the Media—Seven paragraphs into the Times story the reader began to learn the facts of Ratzinger’s youth. He was six when Hitler came to power. His father was so outspoken an anti-Nazi the family had to move multiple times. He joined the Hitler Youth at 14 only when membership became compulsory. He quickly got a dispensation to join the seminary. When conscripted into defense work, he deserted and ended up in a concentration camp.

SnyderTalk Commentary: In case you didn’t have time to watch the videos that appeared in yesterday’s SnyderTalk having to do with the last pope, I’m including them in today’s SnyderTalk as well.  The information in the videos isn’t biblical, but it’s interesting and worth considering:

4--Scripture of the Day

Ezekiel 46: 19-20

Then he brought me through the entrance, which was at the side of the gate, into the holy chambers for the priests, which faced north; and behold, there was a place at the extreme rear toward the west. He said to me, “This is the place where the priests shall boil the guilt offering and the sin offering and where they shall bake the grain offering, in order that they may not bring them out into the outer court to transmit holiness to the people.”

5--HNIY Print form

His Name is Yahweh explains why the Name of God, Yahweh, is so important.  It’s available in eBook format and in paperback.

  • God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
  • “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
  • “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.  In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)
  • Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8: 58)

13--Perspectives

#####

Boaz Bismuth: The Holy See and the path of scandals— The conservative pope managed to antagonize Jews, Catholics and Muslims with his controversial statements. But by stepping down he has revolutionized the institution.

Jonathan S. Tobin: John Paul, Benedict and the Modern Papacy—The decision of Pope Benedict XVI to resign shocked the world today setting off a wave of speculation about the outcome of the upcoming conclave of the College of Cardinals that will choose his successor. The next pope will have a long agenda of issues to deal with as the Church grapples with calls for liberalization of doctrine from within its ranks as well as from non-Catholics. There is also the cardinals’ choice will reflect a desire to reach out to the Third World in a way that reflects the Church’s future. These are issues that are beyond the scope of this blog and are for the Church and its adherents to resolve without comment one way or the other from us. But the transition from Benedict to the next generation at the Vatican is an apt moment to acknowledge the unique achievements of this pope and his predecessor on a topic on which we have a lot to say: Catholic-Jewish relations.

Shoshana Bryen: What Happens When the Government Tells the Truth—There’s a sickening contrast between the Obama administration’s “White Paper” authorizing the killing of American citizens and the complete fiasco of Benghazi as we now know it.

Peter Wehner: The Benghazi Scandal and Media Bias—I served in the Bush White House during the intense press coverage about who leaked the name of Valerie Plame, an undercover CIA agent, to Robert Novak. It was a story that obsessed the media and led to a three-year criminal investigation by a special counsel, Patrick Fitzgerald.

David Horowitz: Why Israel Is the Victim—Israel, the only democracy and tolerant society in the Middle East, is surrounded by Muslim states that have sworn to destroy it and have conducted a genocidal propaganda campaign against the Jews, promising to “finish the job that Hitler started.”

Ryan Mauro: Interfaith Financial War on Israel—The Interfaith Boycott Coalition is the “faith-based wing” of the “U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation.” It includes Jewish Voice for Peace, the Presbyterian Church USA’s Israel-Palestine Mission Network, the Episcopal Peace Fellowship’s Palestine-Israel Network, United Church of Christ Palestine-Israel Network and Response, the United Methodist Kairos Response and other non-Muslim groups and leaders.

Ruthie Blum: Appeasing Ankara— Allowing Turkey to build a hospital in Gaza will not repair Israel’s damaged relationship with Ankara.

Noah Beck: Countdown to Iranian Nukes and Armageddon— Iran could have its first atomic bomb within four to six months of the regime’s decision to assemble one, according to an assessment last Monday by Amos Yadlin, former IDF Director of Military Intelligence. About a week earlier, Tehran declared that it will now use up to three thousand IR-2M centrifuges, which can enrich uranium at about quadruple the speed of Iran’s current enrichment rate. Fred Kagan, Director of the Critical Threats Project at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), describes the IR-2M installation as “undermin[ing] one of the core assumptions of current U.S. policy”: that U.S. intelligence could detect Iran crossing a key threshold and developing weapons-grade nuclear material. The much faster IR-2M centrifuges could enable Iran to produce one weapon’s worth of highly-enriched uranium in about a week –  the amount of time that IAEA inspectors might be absent before their next visit.

Udi Dekel and Orit Perlov: The Elections in Jordan: People Want Evolution, Not Revolution: Jordanian Discourse on the Social Networks, February 2013— The discussion on the Jordanian social networks about the January 23, 2013 elections focused on three main issues: the roadmap of King Abdullah II, which seeks a transition to a parliamentary democracy and a gradual change in the social pyramid through a focus on the next generation; the consequences of the “Arab Spring” for Jordan, the fear of loss of control and stability, and the young people’s preference for evolution over revolution; and the election results: a tactical victory for the King, the failure of the Muslim Brotherhood, the victory of the conservatives, tribal heads, and even businessmen. The article reviews the debate in the social media on these issues.

DEBKAfile Special Report: US withdrawal from Europe-based missile shield will impact Israel’s defense—Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Sunday, Feb. 10 echoed supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s rejection of direct talks with the US four days ago which he said were on the grounds that they “would solve nothing” because, “You are holding a gun against Iran.” Ahmadinejad added [h]is own rider to this dismissal: “God willing, soon Iran’s satellite will be located in orbit at an altitude of 36,000 kilometers, next to others from four or five advanced powers and it will relay a message of peace and fidelity to the world,” he said.

Michael Freund: With the Stroke of a Pen— Earlier this month, a man in uniform you have probably never heard of sat down at his desk and took a quick glance at the piece of paper in front of him containing a military order. The language was bland and lackluster, bearing no emotion and revealing nothing concerning the momentousness of the event at hand. But when Nitzan Alon, head of the IDF Central Command, affixed his signature at the bottom of the page, conferring formal recognition upon Rehalim as the 32nd Jewish community in Samaria, it marked a major victory for those who love the Land of Israel.

Gabriel Scheinmann: No Longer a Bystander to Revolution—Depending on what one believes, a week-and-a-half ago Israeli fighter jets struck either an arms convoy in Lebanon, the Assad regime’s nerve center for biological and chemical weapons research in Damascus, or an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) headquarters, in an attempt to contain the spillover from the Syrian civil war. Irrespective of the targets, the misnamed “Arab Spring” has finally ensnared Israel, which, under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has endeavored to avoid being dragged into the unraveling chaos of the Arab uprisings.

Barry Rubin: Arab Moderation Murdered: The Meaning of an Assassination in Tunisia—“The only thing necessary for evil to triumph in the world is that good men do nothing.” –Edmund Burke: And if the good men are murdered by the forces of political evil th[e]n they certainly cannot do anything. Hence, the outcome is assured. Thus, the “Arab Spring” has just been murdered with bullets and hijacked amid bloodstains.

Barry Rubin: The Real Meaning of the Obama Visit to Israel and U.S.-Israel Relations in Obama’s Second Term— The international media is speculating on Obama’s visit scheduled for late March. The argument is that he would not come unless he gets some breakthrough, that is, some Israeli concession, and he wouldn’t leave happy unless he received one. So what would this concession be? The most likely candidate would be a freeze on constructing building within existing settlements, as Israel gave him three years ago. At that time, despite a ten-month freeze, the Palestinian Authority only came to talks at the last minute, offered nothing, and then quickly demanded another freeze. In other words, Israel did precisely what Obama asked and got nothing in return, either from his government or the Palestinians.

Lawrence Korb: Pollard’s Punishment Was Disproportionate to His Offense—A 1987 CIA damage assessment concerning Jonathan Pollard, a U.S. intelligence analyst who pleaded guilty in 1985 to forwarding classified material to the Israeli government and was sentenced to life in prison, was released in December. This document shows that CIA debriefers said Pollard cooperated with them fully and in good faith. Moreover, they acknowledge that Pollard did not divulge the most sensitive U.S. national security programs. Pollard provided intelligence only on the Soviet Union’s activities in the Middle East, the Arab states and Pakistan.

David Ignatius: A Demographic Shift in the Muslim World— According to Nicholas Eberstadt, a leading demographer and a scholar with the American Enterprise Institute, a “sea change” is producing a sharp decline in Muslim fertility rates and a “flight from marriage” among Arab women.

Zvi Mazel: Report #1: A Militia to Protect the Egyptian Regime—According to the Kuwaiti daily Al-Qabas, the head of the al-Quds Force, the elite force of the Revolutionary Guards of Iran, visited Egypt secretly some weeks ago.

Khaled Abu Toameh: Report #2: A Militia to Protect the Egyptian Regime—Reports in a number of Egyptian opposition media outlets claim that Hamas dispatched 7,000 militiamen from Gaza to Egypt to protect President Mohamed Morsi, who is currently facing a popular uprising.

Joseph Puder: The New Egyptian-Iranian Axis?— Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Cairo on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, marking the first time an Iranian president has visited Egypt since 1979, the year the two countries, Egypt and Iran, broke off diplomatic relations.  Earlier, in June 2012, Mohammad Morsi visited Iran to attend the Non-Aligned Movements (NAM) Conference.  The Muslim Brotherhood leader elected as President of Egypt is the first Egyptian president to visit Iran in decades.  The ostensible reason for Ahmadinejad’s visit was participation in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit was slated for February 6-7 in Cairo.  This also happens to be the first time Egypt has hosted the OIC Summit since its establishment in 1969.

Ken Blackwell and Bob Morrison: Losing Lincoln’s Legacy—Obama made it his business to take a stand on Illinois’ Infant Born-Alive Protection Act. On many controversial matters, he voted “Present,” but on this one bill, he led the effort to kill the measure.

Daren Jonescu: Swallow Your Pride, Save Your Child—It is high time for parents who care about the future of their children, their community, and their civilization to stop telling themselves comforting lies about their power to combat the degradations of public education.

Bruce Walker: The Resilient Conservative Majority—Conservatives not only consistently, but overwhelmingly outnumber liberals in America. So why do liberals have such political success?

Anthony J.Ciani: Why Leftists Should Fully Support the Second Amendment—Our right to keep and bear arms is just like the other rights. But when it comes to guns, we are required to apply to exercise that right.

M. Catharine Evans: Unlikely Savior for British Health Service Crisis—The atrocious sanitary conditions and high death rates at NHS hospitals in Britain have prompted Prime Minister David Cameron, in a strange twist, to call on the doctor who self-describes as “romantic about the NHS; I love it,” to help fix the problem. Dr. Donald Berwick, former head of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in London and was honorarily knighted in 2005 for his work with the National Health Service.

Max Boot: A Drone Court is a Terrible Idea—With controversy growing over the Obama administration’s use of drones to kill suspected terrorists—even, on a few occasions American citizens—interest appears to be growing in some kind of “drone court” modeled on the court authorized by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to authorize national-security wiretaps. Even Bob Gates, the former secretary of defense who is as centrist as they come, appeared to indicate on CNN yesterday that he was in favor of more oversight of the drone strikes, possibly from such a court.

Daniel Greenfield: The Democratic Disgrace—Why corruption is the Democratic Party’s new normal.

Arnold Ahlert: Minority Students in Chicago: Hostages of the Democratic Party—Oppressive Democrat-union alliance leaves few options for the youth of the Windy City.

Mark Tapson: Brainwashing Kids About Guns—How the Left is undermining support for the Second Amendment in k-12 public education.

Dennis Prager: Support for Dorner Is Troubling—Proof that nothing leads to murder and other evils more than a sense of victimization.

Daniel Greenfield: Hagel Was a “D” Student in College, Now a Democrat for Defense—Hagel has a career of being a dimwit and that’s why he was chosen, so that the real power can lie elsewhere while Obama parades a former Republican as the Secretary of Defense and the media assigns him all the responsibility for the disasters that follow.

14--Blessings from Revelation

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
