Steve Apfel:  The UN’s bad cop for Israel— Richard Falk is a one-off type. No other cop in the world polices a whole nation; or is duty-bound to bring the nation to book; or to blow the whistle before he even sets off on his beat. And what other cop is a foreign appointee, beholden to people looking to slap a criminal charge on one scapegoat nation?  That’s Richard Falk, the American, UN policeman for Israel. An old Princeton law professor, with facial features that Hitler and Goebbels liked to plaster around the Third Reich to orchestrate the oldest of hatreds, Falk was lately removed from the board of Human Rights Watch, the global NGO.

4--Scripture of the Day

Ezekiel 40: 24-27

Then he led me toward the south, and behold, there was a gate toward the south; and he measured its side pillars and its porches according to those same measurements. The gate and its porches had windows all around like those other windows; the length was fifty cubits and the width twenty-five cubits. There were seven steps going up to it, and its porches were in front of them; and it had palm tree ornaments on its side pillars, one on each side. The inner court had a gate toward the south; and he measured from gate to gate toward the south, a hundred cubits.

5--HNIY Print form

His Name is Yahweh explains why the Name of God, Yahweh, is so important.  It’s available in eBook format and in paperback.

  • God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
  • “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
  • “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.  In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)
  • Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8: 58)

13--Perspectives

#####

Sarah N. Stern: Egypt’s Stillborn Democracy—The Middle East that is descending in an inchoate free fall back down onto the familiar ground of religious fundamentalism, primitive tribal society, and internecine warfare which that region of the world is so accustomed to.

Herb Keinon: Netanyahu: Iran Remains the Number One Threat—Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a meeting of Israel’s ambassadors serving abroad on Thursday that “Iran remains the number one threat,” and Israel remains determined to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Zach Pontz: Abbas Salutes Hitler-Supporting Mufti, Terrorists in Anniversary Address—Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas paid tribute to World War II era Hitler-supporting Mufti Haj Amin al-Husseini as well as several known terror leaders responsible for the deaths of Israelis at a rally in Gaza City Friday that marked the 48th anniversary of the political party Fatah. During the televised speech, made to a crowd of hundreds of thousands, Abbas made mention of, among others,  Abdel Aziz Rantisi, Sheik Ahmed Yassin–both former leaders of Hamas assassinated by Israel for their role in terrorizing the Jewish state-and Marwan Bargouti, who is currently serving time in an Israeli prison for his role in the deaths of five Israelis.

Elliott Abrams: Is Al-Jazeera a News Network?—Al-Jazeera is not a news channel, even if it broadcasts news. It is wholly owned by the Qatari royal family, whose interests it will pretty obviously protect. Henceforth, tens of millions of Americans will receive Al-Jazeera English in their homes.

Aron Heller: The Afghan Geniza—A trove of ancient manuscripts in Hebrew characters rescued from caves in a Taliban stronghold in northern Afghanistan is providing the first physical evidence of a Jewish community that thrived there a thousand years ago. On Thursday Israel’s National Library unveiled the cache of recently purchased documents that include biblical commentaries, personal letters and financial records.

Arie Egozi: How Will Israel Protect Its Offshore Gas Rigs?— Underwater threats are becoming more severe. Seaport and offshore oil and gas drilling rigs have become targets for terrorists. Elta, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), realized years ago that state-of-the-art sensors are required in order to spot underwater threats.

Michal Shmulovich: Hamas, PA reportedly refuse to take in Palestinian refugees from Syria— Hamas and the Palestinian Authority rejected the United Nations’ request that they take in Palestinian refugees who fled Syria during the ongoing brutal civil war, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Thursday. Finding themselves increasingly isolated, some 150,000 Palestinian refugees in Syria — there are approximately 350,000 in total in the country — were forced to flee the Yarmouk refugee camp located outside Damascus due to attacks, including an aerial bombardment, by the Bashar Assad regime. Their flight has created a humanitarian crisis in Damascus; others have fled to Lebanon and Jordan, reportedly causing those countries to become increasingly hostile to their presence there.

Alana Goodman: Hagel: ‘Let the Jews Pay for it’— Adam Kredo reports that Chuck Hagel’s anti-Israel animosity was obvious well before his career in Congress. While heading up the USO, he clashed with Jewish leaders over a USO port in Haifa: Hagel, who served as president and CEO of the World USO from 1987 to 1990, expressed intense opposition to the USO Haifa Center during a tumultuous 1989 meeting with Jewish leaders, according to multiple sources involved in the fight to keep the post open.

Jay Adler: The Hagelian Dialectic— The Chuck Hagel trial balloon has been aloft for weeks now, not to burst or land – since its lofting was never officially acknowledged – until either he or someone else is officially nominated for Secretary of Defense. What conclusions may be drawn without tendentiousness?

David P. Goldman: Insoluble Syria—A government drawn from a minority of the population cannot attempt to exterminate the majority, so it must try to find a modus vivendi. The majority can in fact exterminate a minority. That is why a majority government represents an existential threat to the minority, and that is why minorities fight to the death.

Robert Spencer: A Subway Murder and the ‘Islamophobia’ Industry— Last Saturday, a deranged woman pushed a man in front of a subway train in New York and killed him, explaining that she did it because of her anger with Muslims ever since 9/11. Immediately, leftist and Islamic-supremacist writers swung into action to blame the murder on what they called an “Islamophobia industry,” despite the killer’s obvious insanity and history of violent attacks on random people. The attacks revealed much about the use of the term “Islamophobia” as a propaganda tool designed to shut down thinking.

Jack Dunphy: Crime Down in L.A., Local Newspaper Baffled— It is widely known but rarely mentioned that crime is higher among some demographic groups than others.  Indeed, it’s considered impolite to talk about such things, but facts are facts, and some facts bear discussion when pondering those demographic shifts.  In Los Angeles, as in the country generally, blacks commit more crimes per capita than Latinos, who commit more crimes than whites.  Thus, in those parts of Los Angeles where Latinos have supplanted blacks, crime has gone down accordingly. When I first started working as a patrol officer in South-Central Los Angeles in the early ‘80s, there were relatively few Latinos living anywhere south of Adams Boulevard, and the farther south one went, the fewer Latinos one encountered.  But the biggest demographic shift that has occurred during my career with the LAPD has been the steady influx of Latinos into neighborhoods that were once all but exclusively black.  The decline in crime – particularly violent crime – that has accompanied this transformation is not a coincidence.

Bryan Preston: Why Banning High-Capacity Magazines Will Not Save Lives—In a broken society where the ordinary rules are being challenged and brought down day by day, you can ban everything. Or you can ban nothing. It won’t matter. Whatever you ban today is jungle taped to beat the ban tomorrow. Those who respect the ban will become victims, either of the state, or of the predators who do not respect the ban.

Stanislav Mishin: Americans never give up your guns—Of course being savages, murderers and liars does not mean being stupid and the Reds learned from their Civil War experience. One of the first things they did was to disarm the population. From that point, mass repression, mass arrests, mass deportations, mass murder, mass starvation were all a safe game for the powers that were. The worst they had to fear was a pitchfork in the guts or a knife in the back or the occasional hunting rifle. Not much for soldiers. [This article is from a Russian who warns us not to give up our guns.]

Peter Huessy: The New Poisonous Coalition— In the decade since the attacks of 9/11, the United States and its allies have portrayed terrorism as primarily al Qaeda-centric. This, in turn, has led, logically, to a search for the origin of the terrorism aimed at us. Thus, after 9/11, many American analysts wondered, “Why do they hate us?” One top State Department official, in February 2002, was even tasked with producing commercials to convince Muslims that, “they do not have to kill us to get our attention.”

Keith Riler: Gun Lists and Unintended Consequences—Once again, liberals shoot themselves in the foot — so to speak.

Rick Moran: What some liberals really think of gun owners—Equating gun owners with child molesters.

Warren Beatty: Confirmed: Diane Feinstein Doesn’t Know Anything—The California senator has an oddly selective way of expressing concern over murders in America.

James M. Arlandson: From Same-Sex Marriage to Polygamy and Polyandry—But if we redefine marriage for one group, there’s no logical reason to deny other nonconformist advocates their right to do so, especially if they successfully argue their version of marriage on utilitarian grounds.

George Friedman: Europe in 2013: A Year of Decision— The end of the year always prompts questions about what the most important issue of the next year may be. It’s a simplistic question, since every year sees many things happen and for each of us a different one might be important. But it is still worth considering what single issue could cause the world to change course. In my view, the most important place to watch in 2013 is Europe.

14--Blessings from Revelation

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
