Internet Startups – a Great Example
In the 1990s, leaders of Internet startup companies told Wall Street analysts that the Internet would make “brick and mortar” retail stores obsolete. Many analysts believed them, and as a result stock prices for Internet startups went through the roof. In March 2000, the facts became clear, and the stock market bubble burst.
We now know that the Internet will change the nature of shopping significantly, but it will not eliminate the need for conventional retail stores. We also know that Internet startup company leaders’ and Wall Street analysts’ perceptions about reality were wrong. It took some time for that fact to become obvious, and when it did, many investors lost fortunes because they believed erroneous information.
As I said, reality always wins in the end. That means you should focus your attention on things that are real and true. If you don’t, you are asking for trouble. In time, traditions that aren’t based on reality will be exposed as hindrances to progress, and in their wake you will find many people who were injured or destroyed by them.
The second exercise I used appears below. I asked the participants in my seminars and classes to connect all 9 dots with 4 straight lines without lifting their pens from the paper. Try it. It’s not easy for most people.
To solve the problem, you must be willing to look outside the perceived boundaries. (You will find the solution at the end of this SnyderTalk post.) Reluctance to extend the lines beyond the perimeter of the box outlined by the 9 dots prevents most people from finding the solution.
Since there are no boundaries in this exercise, and I didn’t impose any, you have to make them up, and that’s the point. We create our own constraints, and they prevent us from succeeding. We think that choosing the “traditional” route, operating within widely accepted parameters, and basing our decisions on the recommendations of so-called “experts” will guarantee our safety, but that’s not the case. The path that seems right to us often times turns out to be wrong.
“The quality of thinking that got us here won’t get us out of here.”
Why do we impose limits on ourselves where none exist, and when did we learn to do it? There may be many reasons, but I think it started when we were children learning to color. Staying “inside the lines” is a sign of achievement, and children desperately what to please their teachers and parents. I can still recall my daughters’ excitement when they learned to color “inside the lines.”
That’s fine for kindergarten art classes, but in the real world where we operate, it’s a serious problem. If we hope to solve complex problems, we must be able to see things as they actually are, and the solutions are not found inside our self-imposed boundaries. As Albert Einstein used to say, and I’m paraphrasing for effect, “The quality of thinking that got us here won’t get us out of here.”
As I said, we must learn to see things from God’s perspective. That means we need to identify the real boundaries that He set. Any other boundaries that we think exist are hindrances, are self-imposed, and are not real despite what anyone says. We must be willing to rethink “conventional wisdom” and our traditions and to look for solutions outside the boundaries of our self-imposed constraints.
Our objective should be to bring our thinking into alignment with God’s perspective. Thankfully, He gave us the Bible as a guide and He gave us prayer for immediate and direct access to Him. That’s why we ignore them at our peril. God is the only One who can show us the right path to follow.
When we give our hearts to God, He directs our paths. Therefore, the only safe course available to us is to let Him have our hearts. This verse explains what I’m talking about:
“For the eyes of Yahweh move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.” 2 Chronicles 16: 9
God wants to strongly support you and me and everyone else, but He won’t unless our hearts are completely His. That means 100 percent with nothing held back in reserve. So give Him your heart and expect Him to do what He said He will do.

Jeremiah 51: 30-33
The mighty men of Babylon have ceased fighting, they stay in the strongholds; their strength is exhausted, they are becoming like women; their dwelling places are set on fire, the bars of her gates are broken. One courier runs to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to tell the king of Babylon that his city has been captured from end to end; the fords also have been seized, and they have burned the marshes with fire, and the men of war are terrified. For thus says Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel: “The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time it is stamped firm; yet in a little while the time of harvest will come for her.”

His Name is Yahweh explains why the Name of God, Yahweh, is so important. It’s available in eBook format and in paperback.
- God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
- “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
- “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land. In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)

Stand! is a suspense novel that exposes the lies, corruption, and greed underlying the theory that man-made CO2 emissions are responsible for global warming. Professor Wes Carlyle and Karen Sterling, his research collaborator, carefully scan the audience for their would-be attacker—a member of the enviro-gestapo who has been following them for days. Wes spots his man in the back of the room leaning against the wall. Suddenly, another man in the audience steps forward and moves toward Karen at a menacing pace. With a vicious stroke, he swings a billy club at her head. Click here to order the eBook. Click here to order the paperback.

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now. There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone. Click here to order the eBook.
