Jeremiah 12: 14-17
Thus says Yahweh concerning all My wicked neighbors who strike at the inheritance with which I have endowed My people Israel, “Behold I am about to uproot them from their land and will uproot the house of Judah from among them. And it will come about that after I have uprooted them, I will again have compassion on them; and I will bring them back, each one to his inheritance and each one to his land. Then if they will really learn the ways of My people, to swear by My name, ‘As Yahweh lives,’ even as they taught My people to swear by Baal, they will be built up in the midst of My people. But if they will not listen, then I will uproot that nation, uproot and destroy it,” declares Yahweh.

Jeremiah 11: 9-13
Then Yahweh said to me, “A conspiracy has been found among the men of Judah and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem. They have turned back to the iniquities of their ancestors who refused to hear My words, and they have gone after other gods to serve them; the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken My covenant which I made with their fathers.” Therefore thus says Yahweh, “Behold I am bringing disaster on them which they will not be able to escape; though they will cry to Me, yet I will not listen to them. Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go and cry to the gods to whom they burn incense, but they surely will not save them in the time of their disaster. For your gods are as many as your cities, O Judah; and as many as the streets of Jerusalem are the altars you have set up to the shameful thing, altars to burn incense to Baal.”

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
The Person most Christians call Jesus is actually Yahweh. He said it many times, but people didn’t listen or they listened and rejected it. Even His disciples had trouble with that notion until after His resurrection.
The Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, make it clear that the Messiah is Yahweh. I won’t try to prove that point in this short piece, but I have written a book about it titled His Name is Yahweh. You should read it if there is any doubt in your mind. I fear that many people who claim to be Christians today miss this pivotal truth. Salvation is by grace through faith in a Person and that Person is Yahweh. He is the only God, and He made it clear that faith in Him is essential for our salvation. Absent that faith, we merely believe that God exists.
Real faith has legs. This is how James explained it:
“But someone may well say, ‘You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.’ You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder. But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected; and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, ‘AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS,” and he was called the friend of God. You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.” (James 2: 18-26)
James couldn’t have been any clearer: “You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.” According to James, believing that God exists doesn’t distinguish us from demons. Faith does that, and the faith James is talking about is faith that has legs – i.e., the kind of faith that causes a person to actually do what Yahweh says. That’s the kind of faith that leads to salvation.
The Messiah said the same thing:
“At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem; it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple in the portico of Solomon. The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, ‘How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.’ Jesus answered them, ‘I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me. But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.’” (John 10: 22-30)
Do you see it? “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” That’s what James was talking about. Faith that has legs is revealed by our works, or as the Messiah put it, a willingness to follow Him. But it all begins with hearing His voice. If you read the Bible and reject Yahweh’s written word, there is a very good probability that you don’t recognize His voice even if you do hear it.
