Isaiah 49: 23-26—“Kings will be your guardians, and their princesses your nurses. They will bow down to you with their faces to the earth and lick the dust of your feet; and you will know that I am Yahweh; those who hopefully wait for Me will not be put to shame. Can the prey be taken from the mighty man, or the captives of a tyrant be rescued?” Surely, thus says Yahweh, “Even the captives of the mighty man will be taken away, and the prey of the tyrant will be rescued; for I will contend with the one who contends with you, and I will save your sons. I will feed your oppressors with their own flesh, and they will become drunk with their own blood as with sweet wine; and all flesh will know that I, Yahweh, am your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”

“On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen….” (Isaiah 62: 6)

“When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.” (Anonymous)

#####

After the Gaza flotilla incident in 2010 … President Barack Obama declared a new policy – though he never identified it explicitly as a new policy. Now, the US would provide a lot of aid to Gaza in the belief that it became more prosperous the citizens – apparently a strengthened middle class and businessmen – would bring down the regime in Gaza. Although they never said this explicitly, the implication seemed to be that they expected something like what happened in Eastern Europe in opposition to Soviet control and Communist rule.

#####

One of the big reasons the Democrats may get hammered next Tuesday is that under that party’s congressional leadership, the nation has run up an astounding $5 trillion in new debt over the past three years. And what do we have to show for all that deficit spending? Nancy Pelosi flying home to San Francisco in a private jet?

#####

The economic nails slowly have been hammered into that coffin all summer and fall. A spate of subpar economic statistics has shown the failure of the fiscal-stimulus spending program. And myriad tax and regulatory threats produced by new government policies have created a massive uncertainty overhang and a dismal jobs outlook. American businesses have gone on an investment-capital and hiring strike.

#####

Christine O’Donnell may have had to deny being a witch, but she wasn’t the only election-year Halloween bogeyman for Democrats to trick voters with this year. Did you hear the one about how Republican candidate fill-in-the-blank, fill-in-the-district, wants to privatize Social Security? Even former president George W. Bush got thrown into that mix, for regretting his inability to get his Social Security plan passed — which would not have privatized Social Security. But being serious is not what Halloween (or, sometimes, an election) tends to be about.

I sympathize with the law abiding Hispanics who feel stimagitzed by illegal aliens. But it is not fair to attack people as “racist” for simply pointing out the facts. Rather, patriotic Hispanics have all the more reason to support deporting the illegal aliens who give them a bad name.

#####

The Democratic operative, James Carville, coined one of the most legendary campaign catchphrases, “it’s the economy, stupid.” Close to two decades later with our federal deficits this year and last, the highest on record since World War II, that phrase should be changed to, “it’s the spending, stupid.”

#####

On Tuesday, US voters are set to repudiate US President Barack Obama’s agenda for their country. Unfortunately, based on his behavior in the face of a similar repudiation last January, it is safe to assume that Obama will not abandon his course.

#####

Earlier this year, President Obama drove U.S.-Israeli relations–to use one of President Obama’s oft-employed analogies–into a ditch. Arguably, ties between the two countries were never more strained than last Spring when Mr. Obama serially insulted the elected leader of Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, vilified his country and tried to euchre it into making territorial, political and other ill-advised concessions to Arabs determined as ever to destroy the Jewish State. Unfortunately, what the President has in mind for Israel after the election next week will make his previous treatment of the Jewish State look like the good old days.

#####

While the news this election cycle has been focused on horse races and high-wattage personalities like Sharron Angle and Christine O’Donnell, one of the most important races in the country has slipped below the national radar—despite the fact that one of the key figures involved has a nasty habit of mingling with Islamic extremists.

#####

Most elections are about particular policies, particular scandals or particular personalities. But these issues don’t mean as much this year – not because they are not important, but because this election is a crossroads election, one that can decide what path this country will take for many years to come.

#####

It’s a dreary, overcast day in Eastern Massachusetts as I pull into the parking lot of a suburban Boston office complex. I hustle from my car to the front door to escape the drizzle, then proceed down a nondescript hallway before arriving at a door marked “Sean Bielat for Congress.” Inside, the New England fall chill melts in a warm, intimate office that’s humming with activity. Roughly a dozen aides and volunteers man telephones and stuff envelopes, fueled by a plentiful supply of donuts and coffee. This hearty band, comprised of disaffected Democrats, independents, and even a few Bay State Republicans, has been placing over 5,000 campaign calls per day and processing countless mailers since the primary election. They’re united behind a simple, common purpose: Retiring Congressman Barney Frank.

#####

In his final push against Republican Pat Toomey in the Pennsylvania Senate race, an advertisement from Democratic Rep. Joe Sestak features a bag of feces collected from his family dog. Sestak swings the bag into the trash can, and equates it with the policies of his opponent.

#####

Why were liberals were so insanely paranoid about the alleged nefarious activities of President George W. Bush? Projection, anyone? They were mortified at Bush’s alleged encroachment on our individual liberties, but now that they’re in control, we see where liberty ranks on their list of priorities.

#####

Perhaps I was right to give Treasury man Tim Geithner the benefit of the doubt over his statements last week hinting at King Dollar protection. Perhaps.

#####

Amidst the exuberant celebration of Obama’s election in 2008, many liberal talking heads pronounced the death of conservatism. Yet just two short years later, the Republicans are poised to overwhelm the Democrats in the midterm elections. RealClearPolitics predicts that the GOP will gain eight seats in the Senate, six governorships, and approximately fifty seats in the House. What has spurred this reverse of fortunes?

#####

The 111th Congress began by dropping a trillion dollars in debt on the American taxpayer.  The money disappeared in a wild spending spree, buying $2 million jobs in Los Angeles, and evaporating into nonexistent zip codes.  Billions of dollars remain clogged in the filthy pipes of government, producing nothing but more debt through accumulated interest payments.  Much of the “stimulus” money was used to pump lard into government payrolls, creating useless jobs that vanished as soon as the taxpayer subsidies ran dry.  The President recently admitted that the stated reason for appropriating this vast sum of money, the creation of “shovel-ready jobs,” was an outright lie.

#####

Want to know how the world will look if Congress reinstates the Fairness Doctrine?  Take a long look at what happened in Alaska when a radio talk-show host ran afoul of the political Establishment.  After running a contest to get Alaskans to add themselves to a list of write-in candidates for the Senate race, Lisa Murkowski’s ad buyer threatened to get the FCC involved in Dan Fagan’s “electioneering” — and got him taken off the air.  Now Sarah Palin has launched a broadside from her Facebook site against Murkowski for attacking free speech and political discourse.

#####

Teresa Collett and her campaign didn’t take long to revamp one of their web videos from earlier this week to add an “urgent update.”   In a debate for the Congressional election in MN-04, five-term incumbent Democrat Betty McCollum told voters that “al-Qaeda no longer poses a threat to the United States.”  Eight days later, President Obama went on national television to explain the national-security threat that AQ posed in its latest terrorist plot, using the international cargo system to attempt attacks on synagogues in Chicago, among other potential targets.  Today the Collett campaign makes the argument even more clear that Betty McCollum has no idea about national security and doesn’t belong in Congress.

#####

The United States Congress was in a rare joint session. All 435 representatives and 100 senators were in attendance, and the C-SPAN-TV cameras were rolling. The members were gathered together to hear a speech by a descendant of George Washington. But what they thought would be a polite speech of patriotic historical reflections quickly turned into a televised tongue-lashing. With a wagging finger and stern looks, Washington’s seventh-generation grandson declared….

Arizona is a fascinating state because of the extreme reactions its controversial legislation seems to elicit from the country.  It’s definitely the Wild West when it comes to legislation, with the recently passed immigration law known as SB1070. Then there is Arizona’s Proposition 200 from 2004 that required proof of citizenship in order to register to vote. It was approved by Arizona voters but was recently struck down by the 9th Circuit Court, dealing a blow to the very integrity of our elections. And don’ t forget the current legislative endeavors including a proposition that directly confronts the unconstitutional mandates in Obamacare and a proposition to undo the race-based hiring practices of Affirmative Action.

#####

One must be careful to not assume too much.  But, as columnist Pat Buchanan stated it late last week, “the polls and pundits are all in alignment now,” and it seems to be a foregone conclusion – even at the White House – that the Obama Democrat party is going to suffer a severe rebuke. So it’s probably wise for all of us to consider how our President and his remaining allies in the media and in Congress might try to explain-away and assign blame for his party’s impending implosion.

#####

The Good Book tells us that pride goes before a fall, and with the midterm elections looming perhaps nothing encapsulates the truth of this maxim more than the leadership of the Democrat Party and its constituency of liberal media elites. The Left’s inability to engage opposing views with seriousness and respect and their unwillingness to tolerate divergent opinions within their own ranks reveal an ugly intolerance lurking beneath their veneer of open-mindedness, an intolerance that has fueled the continued, rapid growth of the Tea Party and all but sealed the electoral fate of many Democrats come November 2nd.

A friend once told me, after completing a cross-country drive, that he always thought you should feel somehow different as you crossed a state line. No doubt it was a feeling left over from grade-school geography classes, in which U.S. maps showed each state in different, vibrant colors.

As the nation prepares to mark the second anniversary of Barack Obama’s election to the presidency with widespread repudiation of his hope and change agenda, theories abound as to what has caused the wheels to fall off what was once a formidable political juggernaut. Here’s my take — Mr. Obama, unlike most of the previous residents at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, decided to skip his first term and govern like a second term president. By this I mean that his kind of overreach is generally a second term presidential phenomenon.

#####

Divided we stand, united we fall. I know, I’ve got the old adage backward. But when it comes to solving one of the biggest problems looming over the nation – the federal budget deficit – backward could be the best way to go.

The comedy, unfortunately, highlighted only the most negative stereotypes about today’s tea partiers, playing up the fringe elements and playing down rational concerns about size and scope of government.

Jobs: The economy grew at a 2% rate in the third quarter, bringing a sigh of relief from those who feared a worse performance. Sorry, but with unemployment at 9.6%, GDP growth of 2% just doesn’t cut it.

#####

“Yes, We Can” is now a discredited slogan. With elections just five days off, the verdict is: “No, He Can’t.”

#####

Midterm elections amid a lousy economy are usually bad for the President’s party, but it looks as if a neutron bomb may detonate on Democrats in 2010. And one of the major reasons that this year shifted from ordinary losses to potential catastrophe is ObamaCare. This election is a referendum on an entitlement the public never wanted and continues to hate, as evidence from around the country is showing.

#####

Republican congressional candidates have declared war on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act — or Obamacare, as they call it. They have called for its repeal, and promised to work toward that end if elected.

Like perhaps no other city, Paris is burdened by visitors’ expectations; images drawn from novels and movies are so freighted with emotion the reality can be disappointing.

As Tuesday’s midterm elections approach, it’s gotten so deep for the Democrats that President Barack Obama just had to make a stunning announcement.

Hopefully we’ll get the change we’re looking for on November 2nd.

In a recent op-ed piece for the Los Angeles Times, Nicole Gelinas said, “Bad banks, and their bad business model of willful incompetence, are still alive, and dragging down the recovery.” (See “To fix the economy, let bad banks die”.)

I agree wholeheartedly.  It intrigues me that one bad banker whose bank has already folded is running for the Obama seat in the US Senate with the strong – might I say fanatical – support of our president.  His name is Alexi Giannoulias, and to top it off, he was a “mob banker”.

I’m not kidding.  See the October 14, 2010 SnyderTalk editorial titled “Who will win Obama’s former Senate seat?” SnyderTalk editorials can be accessed by clicking “SnyderTalk Editorials” under Pages in the column on the right.

This information sheds a revealing light on Mr. Obama’s oft repeated campaign slogan/cliché about “Hope and Change We Can Believe In”.  If your harbor doubts, click here and click here.

I may be a convert, because I’m hoping for change we can believe in now.  Hopefully we’ll get the change we’re looking for on November 2nd.
