  1. Fact: Turkey’s PM Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is a man on the make.  He sees himself as a modern-day Saladin who is trying his best to restore the Ottoman Empire.
  2. Fact: PM Erdoğan is the mastermind behind the Gaza flotilla disaster.  He planned it to curry favor with Iran, Syria, and the Palestinians.
  3. Fact: Bashar al Assad is a lackluster dentist turned President of Syria thanks to his late father, Hafez al Assad, who was a brutal dictator of the desert nomad variety.
  4. Fact: Under Bashar al Assad, Syria remains a terrorist hideout and brutal dictatorship.

Is it any wonder that Assad thinks Turkey is the best mediator between Israel and Syria?  Hardly.

Is this Hugo “Elvis Presley” Chavez or Hugo “Simon Bolivar” Chavez? It may be Hugo “Puffer” Chavez. I’ll go with “Puffer” because it matches his personality, but looking at the picture above, I can imagine Chavez singing Viva Las Vegas. He may be impersonating Elvis. I often wonder what runs through an egomaniac’s mind.

The resemblance is remarkable. DNA testing may reveal that Hugo Chavez is a close cousin of the pufferfish. One name for the pufferfish is “toadfish”.  That fits too.

SnyderTalk Commentary: This is what Chavez said to the people of Venezuela when he had Bolivar’s corpse exhumed: “Viva Bolivar. It’s not a skeleton. It’s the Great Bolivar, who has returned.” It reminds me of Frankenstein:

SnyderTalk is a serious blog so I shouldn’t make fun of the Venezuelan dictator, but I can’t resist. I wish more people had mocked Hitler as he made his way to power. That might have caused the German people to reject him. Be that as it may, Chavez continues to make off-the-wall comments that beg ridicule, and I’m happy to oblige.
