Isaiah 26: 12-13—“Yahweh, You will establish peace for us, since You have also performed for us all our works. O Yahweh our God, other masters besides You have ruled us; but through You alone we confess Your name.”

“For here we are not afraid to follow the truth wherever it may lead, nor to tolerate any error so long as reason is left free to combat it.” (Thomas Jefferson)

Scripture of the day:

Isaiah 26: 12-13—“Yahweh, You will establish peace for us, since You have also performed for us all our works.  O Yahweh our God, other masters besides You have ruled us; but through You alone we confess Your name.”

SnyderTalk Commentary—A friend sent me this email:

Neil, I would like to get your thoughts on the following.  Last week at the National Day of Prayer events in Oconee and Clarke County (both poorly attended), there were frequent references to the Scripture that says, “If My people, who are called by My Name ….”  It occurred to me that that great promise seems to be “dormant”, and then it hit me.  How many of His people are called by His Name?  Most don’t even know His Name, let alone address themselves as such.  So, my question is, “Could that be the key to unlocking the promised healing so desperately needed in our land?”

The verses he’s referring to are contained in this passage of Scripture:

“Thus Solomon finished the house of Yahweh and the king’s palace, and successfully completed all that he had planned on doing in the house of Yahweh and in his palace.  Then Yahweh appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, ‘I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.  If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.  Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place.  For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that My name may be there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.  As for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, even to do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep My statutes and My ordinances, then I will establish your royal throne as I covenanted with your father David, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man to be ruler in Israel.’  But if you turn away and forsake My statutes and My commandments which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them, then I will uproot you from My land which I have given you, and this house which I have consecrated for My name I will cast out of My sight and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples. As for this house, which was exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and say, ‘Why has Yahweh done thus to this land and to this house?’ And they will say, ‘Because they forsook Yahweh, the God of their fathers who brought them from the land of Egypt, and they adopted other gods and worshiped them and served them; therefore He has brought all this adversity on them.’” (2 Chronicles 7: 11-22)

2 Chronicles 7: 11-22 is sobering.  Let’s examine it in a little detail:

  1. First, notice that Yahweh “appeared to Solomon.”  That means Yahweh has a human form, and He appeared to Solomon in human form.  There is a chapter in His Name is Yahweh that’s titled “Yahweh Has a Human Form”.  You should read it.  Also take a look at the Homepage for His Name is Yahweh.  It contains valuable information.
  2. Second, notice that Yahweh refers to “this place” and “this house”.  The place is Mount Moriah in Jerusalem.  Today we call it The Temple Mount.  The house is Yahweh’s Temple.  The fact that Yahweh’s Temple was destroyed twice—first by the Babylonians in 586 B.C. and then by the Romans in 70 A.D.—tells us that Yahweh is true to His word.  There are consequences for ignoring Yahweh’s statutes and ordinances.
  3. Next, take a look at the conditions: “If…My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways.”  Obviously, Yahweh’s Name is important or He wouldn’t have tied this important promise to His Name.
  4. Finally, notice that this is a conditional promise.  If we humble ourselves, pray, seek Yahweh’s face, and turn from our wicked ways, then Yahweh said He will hear from heaven, will forgive our sin and will heal our land.”

Although this promise refers specifically to prayers offered at Mount Moriah by people called by Yahweh’s Name, I think it applies today.  Do you understand how important Yahweh’s Name is?

This is my reply to my friends email.  “The short answer is ‘Yes’.  It’s a conditional promise and Yahweh doesn’t go back on His word.”
