“Now it came about when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand, and Joshua went to him and said to him, ‘Are you for us or for our adversaries?’ He said, ‘No; rather I indeed come now as captain of the host of Yahweh.’ And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said to him, ‘What has my lord to say to His servant?’ The captain of Yahweh’s host said to Joshua, ‘Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.’ And Joshua did so.” (Joshua 5: 13-15)

“For here we are not afraid to follow the truth wherever it may lead, nor to tolerate any error so long as reason is left free to combat it.” (Thomas Jefferson)

Scripture:

Today I’ll show where Yahweh’s Name belongs in Hebrews 6:

Hebrews 6

  1. Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,
  2. of instruction about washings and laying on of hands, and the resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment.
  3. And this we will do, if Yahweh permits.
  4. For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit,
  5. and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,
  6. and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.
  7. For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God;
  8. but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned.
  9. But, beloved, we are convinced of better things concerning you, and things that accompany salvation, though we are speaking in this way.
  10. For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints.
  11. And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end,
  12. so that you will not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
  13. For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,
  14. saying, “I WILL SURELY BLESS YOU AND I WILL SURELY MULTIPLY YOU.”
  15. And so, having patiently waited, he obtained the promise.
  16. For men swear by one greater than themselves, and with them an oath given as confirmation is an end of every dispute.
  17. In the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath,
  18. so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.
  19. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil,
  20. where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

Yahweh Appears to Joshua

Before the Children of Israel conquered Jericho, Yahweh appeared to Joshua. (Joshua 5: 13-15)  Based on what the Bible says, I am certain that Yahweh is the Person Joshua met and talked with at that time, but if you read the KJV, NAS, NIV, or the Tanach in English, it may not be crystal clear.  However, if you understand Hebrew (or if you use a Strong’s Concordance) it is as plain as day.  According to the NAS,

The first clue we have about the true identity of the Person Joshua met that day is the title the Man used: “the captain of the host of Yahweh.”  The KJV also uses that title, but the NIV and the Tanach use another title: “the commander of the host of Yahweh.”  The Hebrew word translated as “captain” or “commander” in this passage from Joshua is “Sar,” but in Isaiah 9: 6, “Sar” is translated as “Prince” and refers to the Messiah as Prince of Peace, or Sar Shalom.  Joshua’s reaction when he learned the Man’s identity is the next clue: he “fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down…” The Man Joshua met gave us the final clue when He told Joshua to take off his shoes because he was standing on holy ground.  That is what Yahweh told Moses to do at the burning bush, so there is no doubt that Joshua met and talked with Yahweh in Person.

News Items of Interest:

Commonsense—Let’s examine the facts:

  1. In reality, a call for jihad is a call for indiscriminate assassination.
  2. The so-called “jihadists” are the contemporary equivalent of Nazi Brownshirts.
  3. I said “so-called” because in effect jihadists are nothing more than hit men in an organized crime syndicate that is funded globally by dictators and petty tyrants who profess to be motivated by their radical religious beliefs.

Now, consider these facts:

  1. A Hamas terrorist is assassinated in Dubai by a large group of people who used fake European passports that point to people with direct ties to Israel.
  2. Hamas leaders suspect a Fatah hit.
  3. Before conducting a serious investigation, Dubai and European “leaders” assume reflexively that it was a Mossad operation, and they compete with each other to see who can make the most outlandish claims about Israeli complicity.
  4. Interpol is dispatched to apprehend the alleged culprits, including the head of Mossad.
  5. Mossad is arguably the best intelligence organization in the world today.  If you believe its accusers, Mossad orchestrated a clandestine hit that was so poorly conceived “a caveman could have done it”, to use a phrase made popular by GEICO commercials.

There is an obvious double standard here.  Kooks and murderers blithely order dimwitted thugs to commit murder, and the best the UN can do is scream “unacceptable”.

“Unacceptable”?  Is that a good description of a general order to commit random murder?  I don’t think so.  It’s time for the world to wake up and deal with this growing problem.  Every nation is a risk.  The US, Switzerland, Russia, China, India, and other nations are targets simply because they reject the religious views of radical Islamists.  That’s what I call “unacceptable”.  It’s time for the rule of law and justice to prevail.  We should expect more from our “leaders” than kneejerk reactions and obvious hatred of Israel.
