President Obama’s rhetoric is dividing this nation and fueling hatred—much of it aimed at him personally. Even more, he’s plotting courses into uncharted waters without paying enough attention to divergent views and scientific facts. Climate change is a great example of this. When 31,000 legitimate climate scientists sign a petition warning you that you are moving down the wrong path and they have the facts to back it up, you have a duty, an obligation I would think as president, to pause and reflect…at the very least. Instead, President Obama is marching in lockstep behind Fat Albert, a man whose scientific knowledge is as close to zero as you can get. In Europe, they required him to re-edit his hilariously funny docudrama An Inconvenient Truth because of factually incorrect content. The real inconvenient truth is that Fat Albert is a wacko and President Obama is paying attention to him.

Today’s Feature

Righteousness is a Gift from Yahweh

It’s natural for us to think we should earn our righteousness, and it’s tempting and appealing to think we can earn it by doing good works, performing acts of kindness, and obeying all the Laws in the Bible.  That makes perfect sense from a human perspective, because most of us have been brought up to think that way.

For example, what employer would pay you for simply having faith in him?  That doesn’t make any sense, and few if any would do it.  In our world, we know we must actually do something tangible, something people can see with their eyes and touch with their hands to earn any reward at all.  Using our common (natural) wisdom, we know there is no such thing as a free lunch and that no one gives us anything without expecting something in return, even if it is just a simple “thank you.”

But God does not think the way we think.  He says, “‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,’ declares Yahweh.  ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.’” (Isaiah 55: 8-9)

Although God understands common (natural) wisdom, He doesn’t use it.  He does not want us to use it either.

Consider this.  We know God expects us to forgive people who hurt us and that we should forgive them again and again if they ask for forgiveness.  Does that sound like common (natural) wisdom?  No, but it is God’s wisdom.

Why does God want and expect us to forgive people time after time even when we think they will never change?  Because that’s the way He forgives us!  He wants and expects us to apply His logic, not ours, and behave the way He behaves, not the way people behave naturally.

That wisdom is not common wisdom.  It is God’s wisdom, and learning about God is learning to pattern our life and our thoughts after His.  If we pay attention to God’s Word, listen to His Voice, and obey Him, then He uses all circumstances, even unpleasant ones, to teach us His ways and His thoughts in order to make us holy.

SnyderTalk® Commentary

Here is a little pop quiz.  Did you know that economic difficulty in Germany following WWI and the signing of the Treaty of Versailles led to the rise to power of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime?

It’s true.  Under economic stress, people do some unbelievably stupid and dangerous things.  That’s why it pays to slow down and ask questions when someone with a shrill voice who’s talking so fast he can barely catch his breath is telling you that the sky is falling.  There are plenty of Chicken Little’s in the world.  You don’t want to be one of them.

The Secret Service is having a hard time protecting President Obama for several reasons.  Economic difficulty is one of them.  Let’s be clear at the outset.  Barack Obama did not create the economic mess we’re facing right now.  George W. Bush deserves the lion’s share of the credit for this recession, and I think he deserves most of the credit for the subprime mortgage debacle.  But Obama’s policies are costing us an enormous amount of money—money we don’t have—and we’re not getting much bang for our bucks.  In that sense, he’s responsible for creating the conditions that are prolonging our economic problems.

President Obama’s zero sum outlook on life is also a huge part of his problem.  It’s based on the flawed premise that one person can advance only if others fall back.  He’s made a career out of pitting one side against another.  During the presidential campaign, he was relentless in his attempts to paint republicans as rich, white boys who don’t give a hoot about the needs of less well-to-do blacks and Hispanics, among others.  Even now he continues to play off the rich against the poor, blacks and other minorities against whites, women against men, etc.  His problems are largely a result of having laid a foundation of class warfare and class envy, and the negative side effects are just what you would expect.

The public healthcare option is another example.  We can make great strides toward improving the quality of healthcare in the U.S. and reducing healthcare costs without taking the step of turning healthcare over to the government.  All of us have dealings with the government.  We’re not ignorant.  We know how inefficient government is at every level: state, federal, and local.  We tolerate government because we must, but we don’t have to turn over healthcare to them, and we’re not going to without a fight.  It’s just too important.

Lastly, the recent White House attack on Fox News was amateurish, bush league.  Personally, I find it very hard to believe that the bright lights inside the White House didn’t foresee the backlash.  Even the liberal news media are turning on them, and for good reason.  They know that they could be next if they challenge the president.  Candidly, it makes me wonder what country Obama, Emanuel, Axelrod, and Dunn grew up in.  Judging by their actions, you would think they learned civics in the old USSR or the old Communist China or the Third Reich.  If they don’t like the comparisons, I suggest that they change their behavior.  It’s no wonder people are angry with them.

As I said at the beginning, economic problems following WWI and the Treaty of Versailles created the conditions that enabled one of the most evil people in the history of the world to flourish.  Hitler’s rise to power was marked by class warfare and class envy.  He targeted Jewish people in particular as the primary source of the problems in Germany and the world, and he tried to wipe Jews out.  But he also targeted blacks, homosexuals, deformed people, and others he deemed to be inferior.  Hitler’s policies led to the deaths of more than 60,000,000 people worldwide, including 6,000,000 innocent Jews who were unmercifully slaughtered.

I know President Obama doesn’t enjoy seeing his name used in connection with Adolf Hitler.  I don’t blame him.  I wouldn’t either.  But his rhetoric, his policies, and his underlings are eerily reminiscent of that ugly era.  These are simple truths.  You can’t unite by dividing, and you can’t lead successfully over the long-run while ignoring the facts.

If you were wondering what life would be like under a radical Islamic regime, you need look no farther than Somalia.  Take a look at the pictures below.  They give you a glimpse of life under Sharia law.  There is a funny thing about radical Islamists.  They know everything, but they don’t agree on anything.  Problem is the one in charge imposes his view on everybody else.  In Somalia, he does it with a machete or with an automatic weapon.
