Today’s Feature
The Original Sin and the Loss of Intimacy with Yahweh
Satan came to Eve in the Garden of Eden in the guise of a serpent and said, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” (Genesis 3: 1)
Eve told him they were free to eat from any tree in the Garden except the tree in the middle of the Garden—the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Then she explained that God told them, “You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.” (Genesis 3: 3)
Actually, Eve misunderstood what Yahweh said. He told Adam and Eve if they disobeyed Him by eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, He would impose a death sentence on them. Stated another way, they would be doomed to die, but they would not die immediately.
This distinction is key. Satan knew exactly what Yahweh had told them, and Eve’s misunderstanding of God’s Word enabled him to deceive her and to perpetuate the lie that death is not the penalty for sin. Even today, when people disobey God and nothing happens to them immediately, they think they are safe, but they are not safe. They are doomed to die unless they are redeemed. Someone must pay the price for our sins. Either we pay, or our Redeemer pays for us.
Satan told Eve, “You surely shall not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3: 4-5)
Eve thought the fruit looked very appealing, and the notion that she could be wise as God was more than she could resist. She picked fruit from the tree, ate it, and offered Adam a bite. Their rebellion set in motion a spiritual war for the souls of men and women between God and Satan and created a sin problem for mankind that only Yahweh can solve.
Yahweh visited Adam in the Garden regularly to walk and talk. Adam must have looked forward to His visits. He probably felt like a small child awaiting the arrival of his beloved grandparents. It is possible—even likely—that Adam would run up to Yahweh, hug Him tightly, and kiss Him. But after they ate the forbidden fruit, Adam and Eve hid from God instead.
What a contrast! Before Adam sinned, he could hardly wait for Yahweh’s visits, but afterwards he could not bear the thought of seeing Him. Why? Because he knew he had made a mistake—a big one. He had sinned against God, and he knew it. He was ashamed of himself, and he must have thought that by hiding from Yahweh his guilt and shame would simply disappear—the way a child thinks.

SnyderTalk® Commentary
I received the analysis below in an email. I have never included this kind of information in a SnyderTalk before, but I think you’ll want to see this:
Things aren’t always what they appear to be. If you traded in a clunker worth $3500, you got $4500 off for an apparent “savings” of $1000. However, you have to pay taxes on the $4500 come April 15th (something that no auto dealer told anyone). If you are in the 30% tax bracket, you will pay $1350 on that $4500.
So, rather than save $1000, you actually pay an extra $350 to the feds. In addition, you traded in a car that was most likely paid for. Now you have 4 or 5 years of payments on a car that you did not need, that was costing you less to run than the payments that you will now be making.
But wait; it gets even better: you also got ripped off by the dealer. For example, every dealer here in LA was selling the Ford Focus with all the goodies, including A/C, auto transmission, power windows, etc for $12,500 the month before the “cash for clunkers” program started. When “cash for clunkers” came along, they stopped discounting them and instead sold them at the list price of $15,500. So, you paid $3000 more than you would have the month before. Chevy, Honda, Toyota, and Kia played the same list price game.
So let’s do the tally here:
- You traded in a car worth $3500
- You got a discount of $4500
- Net so far: +$1000
- But you have to pay $1350 in taxes on the $4500
- Net so far: -$350
- And you paid $3000 more than the car was selling for the month before
- Net: -$3350
We could also add in the additional taxes (sales tax, state tax, etc.) on the extra $3000 that you paid for the car, along with the 5 years of interest on the car loan, but let’s just stop here.
So who actually made out on the deal? The feds collected taxes on the car along with taxes on the $4500 they “gave” you. The car dealers made an extra $3000 or more on every car they sold along with the kickbacks from the manufacturers and the loan companies. The manufacturers got to dump lots of cars they could not give away the month before. And the poor, stupid consumer got saddled with even more debt that they cannot afford.
Obama and his band of merry men convinced Joe consumer that he was getting $4500 in “free” money from the government when in fact Joe was giving away his $3500 car and paying an additional $3350 for the privilege.
Do you think it was stupid for those who were crazy enough to swallow this wonderful scheme? Just wait until we get health care with no additional costs over what most of us now pay for health insurance and the best medical care in the world. And don’t forget that the “cash for clunkers” program was widely-acclaimed as an enormous success.

The U.N. says world hunger has been on the rise for a decade, but in the U.S., we’re trying to pick up the slack. Over the past 10 years, we’ve gone from roughly 50% to 75% overweight and from about 25% to 45% obese. We really must be a light on a hill. Honestly, do you see a problem here? And by the way, where is all the focus on obesity as we lament rising healthcare costs? The obesity effect is huge…much larger than the tobacco effect. I’ve already run lots of factual data on it in SnyderTalk. Check the archives.

Israel and Middle East
“On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; all day and all night they will never keep silent. You who remind Yahweh, take no rest for yourselves; and give Him no rest until He establishes and makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.”

That’s me at the Yad VaShem Holocaust Museum. The young woman with me had just completed her IDF service, and she was providing security for Israeli school children who were visiting the museum. Hezbollah’s denial is an advanced move in the Palestinian two-step. It’s a variation of the “I didn’t say what I said” defense. If you think it makes no sense, not to worry. It doesn’t have too. Remember, it’s the Palestinian two-step. Normal rules do not apply. They are absolutely free to do anything they want at any time, to categorically deny that they even did it, and expect the global community to believe them. And there’s more. As part of the dance, the Western media is supposed to publish heart wrenching fauxtography aimed at swaying public opinion about their plight. The general public is never allowed to see Palestinians provoking the Israeli and then positioning their women and children in the line of fire to receive the response. The Western media is also not permitted to point out that the Jewish people who were forced to flee Arab countries in 1948 to save their lives had to leave behind all of their possessions, the value of which dwarfed the value of things so called “Palestinians” left behind on their own accord when they chose to leave Israel in 1948. Hitler actually introduced the dance in the 1930s. Like everything else, the Palestinians stole it, claimed it as their own, and put their name on it. We’re supposed to pretend that we don’t know because, after all, they are Palestinians.
